17762  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Comparison of Bitcoin vs. Euro 2011 & 2012 on: June 11, 2012, 09:42:35 PM
For the record...

--------
Bitcoin vs Euro in 2011
Bitcoin Jan 1, 2011: $0.30
Bitcoin Jan 1, 2012: $5.27
Bitcoin Up 1,756% for 2011
(note that Bitcoin was the best performing asset class in the world in 2011 even after it fell from its price peak in the summer)

Euro Jan 1, 2011: $1.34
Euro Jan 1, 2012: $1.29
Euro Down 4% for 2011

Bitcoin vs Euro so far in 2012
Bitcoin Jan 1, 2012: $5.26
Bitcoin June 11, 2012: $5.51
Bitcoin Up 4.75% for 2012

Euro Jan 1, 2012: $1.29
Euro June 11, 2012: $1.25
Euro Down 3.2% for 2012
---------

What the point of this?

The strength of a currency is the exchange rate but the spread

Stupid thread.

I thought it was pretty cool to find out "Bitcoin was the best performing asset class in the world in 2011 even after it fell from its price peak in the summer"

the brakout of the triangle whitch it is forming, will tell if we go down or up in the shortterm

My guess is down.  All that money is too tempting.

the walls on the buy side have been strong for a while now

the money was too tempting on May 29th, a big sell of happened, but was fallowed by very fast recovery, that's when i started this thread are you all watching?

Maybe your right, Maybe they are looking at their bitcoin stash thinking "only a few more dumps and I'll have gotten rid of all these useless bitcoins!"
LOL! Epic Fail

I don't think people are trying to get rid of all their "useless bitcoins".  I do think traders are trying to profit from the recent move up and/or increase their bitcoin position by selling and buying back when the price is lower.  But, I've observed in the past that as enough people jump on that bandwagen the downward movement can become quite strong.

True,
But if not enough people jump on that bandwagen, or the bandwagen leaves early  ( someone buys it all back b4 anyone else ) the after math could mean, mass panic buy backies!  Wink

anyway that bandwagen is long gone 5.52, Quickly Everyone, Buy Back! B4 its to late

Its nice to see Newbie Members post their ideas  Cheesy
But I think your being overly critical. The bottom line is a reputation system works, and what your proposing, however interesting, is not likely to be adopted very easily ( sounds like alot of work, to fix something that isn't broken)
but idk, maybe your on to something here...

Another crazy "Bot Fight", or is this the new cool way to donate to MtGox?  Cheesy
17771  Economy / Speculation / Re: what just happened? on: June 11, 2012, 05:53:07 AM
Can someone explain to me what just happened? Did someone just sacrifice their btc?

That was a botfight.

this happened b4
they will go on trading and at one point, soon we'll see 0.00BTC buy  0.00BTC sell
kinda weird, and annoying

the questions should be able to be answered with radio buttons
maybe 1 or 2 questions you can ask the user to write a bit of text.
I'd also like to see a Personality test, lets see if most bitcoiners fall in particular personalty group
17773  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: June 10, 2012, 09:02:23 PM
I don't think it'll necessarily be a while before it bumps... for reasons completely unrelated to anything on the charts.

I think much of what's driving demand is the media's observation that the price has been more or less stable for quite a long time.  That's enough to cause a snowball effect.  If the media starts piling on the "look, bitcoins were never dead after all, and really are a stable store of wealth and the economy is growing and thriving"... well then... more google searches on Bitcoin, more eyeballs, more interest.

ya well we've been accumulating a lot of people on the side lines during the 5$ stability
this period of volatility is their opportunity.
expect more volatility... way more  Wink

Another explosive rally, just about to happen ? I THINK SO

We can assume the market is rational.

Since when has this been a valid economic assumption?

Since Bitcoin!  Cheesy

17778  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: June 09, 2012, 06:46:45 AM
I would rather see a slow rise in temperature rather than spike and crashes.  Slow growth and low volatility is great for convincing merchants to get on board, and merchants are ultimately what we need to sustain higher prices.

I consider it a good thing that the idea of sending a huge amount of funds (fiat or BTC) to MtGox is a scary thing at the moment.

but having a good amount siting on the exchange is not a bad idea, use it in times like these Kiss buy buy buy

a slow and steady ride up has been going every since 4$

the trend is new ish and slow, it will stay on the up side is 5-8 $ for years.

investing now means 5 years from now, you see Gains!
buying low and selling high is the plan,
we will continue to push on up IMO till 8$ in about 1-3 years?
after that its any ones guess
maybe a equally slow decline back to 5 until the next big bubble?
1000% gains in 3-5 year is still a good possibility, it depends on the overall success of bitcoin

in 3-5 years their will be all kinds of new "online money, you can spend on your cell phone..." but bitcoin will be regarded as 1# with 90% of market share

we just have to do the secret!

do some thing every day that bring us closer to our goal,

Decentralizing World Domination! BITCOIN FTW  Cheesy
