1701  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: October 2014. Are GPU rigs useless? on: November 10, 2014, 07:35:10 AM
Just came back from a 4 months hiatus from the world of crytos. My GPU rigs have been asleep for the summer because of the heat. Right now, is it still possible to use a GPU rig in a manner that will be profitable? Or should I just dismantle them and sell the parts?

Since summer is over, same goes for a lot of people. Difficulty going to increase for all algo. So yeah GPU is useless for mining.

Not the case; I'm turning a profit at $0.11 USD per kWh.

Why do you always make posts similar to this, which inevitably leads to noobs asking you how you do so, to which you'll brag about the magic kernels that you've made and only you have access to? You give people false hope and waste time. It gets annoying.

That said, I don't think you should share your kernels and understand why you don't. Doesn't it get annoying having people beg you for them? If I were you I'd STFU about them and enjoy the extra profit, like I'm sure a good number of people do who may have just as good or even better custom kernels.

Good stuff! Definitely going to send you a couple beers when you release it. Smiley

Well I found this info from here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=656461.0.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chip specs: BM1382

Process Node: 28nm
Package Type: FCQFN-56
Packaged Chip Size: 8mm x 8mm
Number of Cores: 63
Core Voltage: 0.75 V
Core Frequency: 250 MHz
Hash Rate: 15.75 GH/s
Power Consumption: 0.59 J/GH (chip level, and it can be lower to 0.40J/GH by lowering the core voltage)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The chips in the S4 are BM1382, and the antminer S4 is defaulted at 0.72V and 200MHz frequency, does that mean it's under-volted?

According to the BM1382 specs, it should be able to run at 0.75v and 250MHz without any problems... So why aren't we given that as the defaults?

Power consumption and efficiency. You'd need a much more powerful PSU to run 250 MHz @ .75v.

All I'm saying is that ghash doesn't seem to work properly with the miner. Strangely enough it's one of the only pools that works with a Titan. Maybe you should try it with difficulty manually set to 2048 or above instead of the 512 it was serving.

Kilo Hashes?

Yeah, that's off. Should be MH/s.

How much BTC would you guys pay for a used sp30 right now?

4BTC maybe

can a "hero" pawnshop move away to another thread, please.

No.

And to clarify since I've gotten PMs to buy my SP30, I don't have one. I was thinking about buying a used SP30.

What overclocking potential do these have? I was expecting cooler temps than that, but without knowing ambient it's hard to say. I'm assuming the whole kit is PWM, so the fans and pump could be run harder if wanted to reach better temps.

Thank you for waiting the compensation and replacement parts related to the problematic PSUs.
We placed the priority in replacing all the PSU and gathering the refund information to include the Bitcoin Address.
Now the replacement PSU are almost processed and we will be focusing on issuing out the compensation to the effected customers.
We prioritized the RMA Process as #1 Priority, so the S4 will be mining while we process the compensation.  We expect to start sending out the compensation early next week.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.

BITMAIN

You made the most logical choice. Thanks for the update!

Bitmain, any updates on down time compensation?

Thank you. Going to give it some thought, BTC's low price being the only thing that makes me hesitate. That SP35 would be nice. Smiley

Basically, KNC fucked a lot of people over with Neptunes and Titans. Every Titan that is shipped out seems to have at least one cube with issues out of four cubes. It's a complete mess. It only works properly on certain pools, multipools are pretty much non-functional. Each Neptune/Titan cube cube should have two PCI-e connectors, but only have one. No Titan shipped will ever ROI, I paid mine $10k and I'll be lucky to make half of it back.

Only thing it has going for it is it's very low power consumption per MH/s.

these machines do present a challenge to conventional pools/stratums.

for instance I run a pool of twenty coins and it overwhelms all vardiff settings. I've been doing lots of testing and have the machine running on a port right now with a fixed difficulty of 90,000 and I'm about to test even higher.

I'll get it sorted out , however the configuration of the mining software will allow me to break the boards down into multiple miners if I chose and mine multiple coins on different pools simultaneously.

That's pretty cool if  you're able to do that. In KNC's case the issue isn't with vardiff, it lies with the speed of flushing work (1000 times slower than it should). Makes the miner pretty much useless on coins with fast block times.

For all my scrypt ASICs I've found that 2048 is pretty much the minimum difficulty that works well. Generally, anything above 4096 isn't needed. 90000 is pretty hard-core, and really shouldn't be needed unless there's a big bug in the firmware. It doesn't matter in the long run of course, higher difficulty will only cause fluctuations of reported hash speed pool side, along with variance but given time it all equals out.

Seeing the level of communication provided by SP in this thread makes me want to order some hardware.  What are the lead times for orders placed this week or next?

Why can't I solo mine viacoin? viacoinqt refuses to allow miners to connect.

My viacoin.conf:

daemon=1
server=1
rpcuser=prelude
rpcpassword=x
rpcconnect=127.0.0.1
rpcallowip=192.168.1.193
port=5223
rpcport=5222

I've got plenty of experience solo mining, and all other coins work. Just can't get via going for some reason, what am I missing?

You dont need

Code:
daemon=1
server=1
port=5223
rpcport=5222

Thanks for the reply. Still doesn't work with that removed.  Huh

Anyone?

If it's not bitcoin based mining, it won't work. It can't do anything else.
