I've only done a few litecoin transfers, but I remember that one of the transactions did not show up on the litecoin block explorer website for quite some time.

That may, or may not, be your problem.

If you move the thread to the proper forum (Alternate cryptocurrencies), you will probably get a better answer.
1722  Other / Archival / Re: Just lost $900 US to BTC-E, how nice on: January 28, 2014, 03:08:12 AM
This forum is called "Bitcoin Discussion" so, you may want to move your thread.

That said, what are you using to determine that the transaction is not on the block chain? Local Qt client? Litecoin Block Explorer?

I have sold some of my coins yesterday morning.  It's night here now.  I am holding rest of my coins and will buy more on right time..  It's not about you and me dude.  It's about not being greedy and stupid.
If everyone will start selling to buy at low rates, where do you think it will stop?

never do it again puss

That's no way to talk to a fellow forum member.
1724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CEO OF BITCOIN EXCHANGE ARRESTED on: January 28, 2014, 03:00:34 AM
This is all theater to scare people.

Shrem is in the good-ole-boy-secret-handshake-club himself, and the charges are completely ridiculous.

Not following FINCEN "guidelines" is not a crime, as there is no law. Even if there was a law, there is no jurisdiction.

Hopefully, some stupid people will sell and give me some cheap buy prices.

Actually not following FINCEN guidelines is one of the criminal charges against him.

Specifically 'failure to report suspicious activity" which can land you in a federal prison for 5 years.

Since he was arrested in New York, there is plenty of jurisdiction.

~BCX~

Actually, guidelines aren't laws, which is why they're called..."GUIDELINES", which is why there can be no real charges. It's either total bullshit theater to scare people (my guess), or the feds are just doing whatever they want with no respect for even their own laws (also plausible).

Jurisdiction has several elements. Merely being in a geographic area doesn't grant jurisdiction.

Well actually there is a law.  It is the BSA (or more correctly "The Currency and Foreign Transactions Reporting Act of 1970").  The BSA gives FinCEN rather wide latitude in determining which institutions fall within its scope, and what regulatory requirements they must meet.

Which has nothing to do with bitcoins.

@jballs - awesome name

Did BitInstant only deal in bitcoins?

Can someone please tell me how long does one wait for international transfer (withdrawal) from gox?

I believe its been reported to be somewhere between three days and over half a year.
1726  Economy / Speculation / Re: The last time this happened... on: January 28, 2014, 02:40:37 AM
We are now in a 100% confirmed bear trend.

Don't be stupid Mat. You aren't proudhon. Nothing is 100%.

Of course not. Definitely not 100%, just far more probable than not.

But in the same manner that you and I (and about 10 other perpetual bulls) had the debate about the nature of the descending triangle that had formed since 6th Jan (ultra bearish in most cases), the fact that we have now broke to the downside puts even more weight behind the classic text book bear trend case.

Indeed. I wish I could trade these movements. I think it has less to do with TA and more to do with the news though. Let's see what happens tomorrow and on the 31st, then we can go from there.

Just waiting for the right shoulder to form for the inverse head and shoulders, then we're going to have some fun seeing the bears panic buying. Grin

It looks like its forming an inverse Boba Fett (helmet antenna is on the wrong side...).

Indeed - there should be a tick box at the top of this thread that makes people read the actual complaint before posting here!  The whole thing seems pretty clear cut to me, if you knowingly launder money, knowingly flaunt AML restrictions, and knowingly assist people in criminal acts, then you should expect this type of thing to happen to you.

Especially when you are the AML Officer for your company!

If you are going to play by their rules, what can you say when they come down on you for breaking them?
1730  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CEO OF BITCOIN EXCHANGE ARRESTED on: January 28, 2014, 02:16:10 AM
This guy is done and can do nothing but harm Bitcoin as a whole now.

No he can't. Any harm is already done and diminishing as we speak. Next week we will be on to the next story.

No that graph represents human emotion, in regards to hype

Oh... so it's useless, like trying to measure love. Wink

I'm waiting for the bull to say "we're still in stealth phase".

I live in a town of 12,000 where only about a dozen people have heard of it and I'm the only one who owns any. Yeah, we're still in the stealth phase.

yep, I live in New Zealand, and it seems the same. none of my friends know about it, Im trying desperately to teach them. I think it will take another 2 years before the mainstream will all go out there, download a wallet, and buy $100 of bitcoin each. those will be happy days.

Iwas heavily informing all my friends I have on Facebook (and that's real friends mainly, not some strangers) about Bitcoin since it was 250$. I got only one to buy few coins at 800$.
it's amazing the psychology of people who do not actively engage themselves in investing.....
I heard a story about a wealthy man who went out onto the streets of Chicago as part of an experiment and advertised FREE money. he had $1000 to give. nobody stopped. obviously too good to be true. except for a man who needed bus money.... he asked for $2.

I watched a youtube video where someone tried to give away a gold coin at a beach somewhere in the US. No one would take it. He tried to pay for a $2 meal at TacoBell with it and the teller wouldn't accept it even though it had a legal tender value printed on it.

People are living in fear of everything and refuse to trust their own senses to tell them right from wrong. Yet, they will take whatever some idiot on the television says as gospel.

You're thinking of a best case sceanrio in which Bitcoin becomes a massively adopted global phenomenon where every person has an interest in using it. But this graph is not intended to show success cases where something because a legitimate successful enterprise. It is intended to show ponzi schemes or things that fail or become unuseful (or not all that it was hyped up to be).

How many times does the graph have to be wrong before people stop posting it? I've been seeing it since 2011.
It's not wrong, we just don't know where we are, or what the mean looks like.

So everything on the planet, during the entire history of mankind, has been adopted according to that graph. Wow. A fucking genius made that graph!
1734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CEO OF BITCOIN EXCHANGE ARRESTED on: January 28, 2014, 01:31:57 AM
Prosecutor can kindly go burn in Hell. Speechless. This is the most blatant anti-Bitcoin rights violation I've seen yet, way worse than the thug letters sent to Caldwell.

Shrem shouldn't step down from anything over this. The Foundation should be supporting him, not throwing him under the bus because they think they can influence the BTC price a couple points higher. Have some fucking integrity.

Shrem tried to play ball with the powers that be. He was BitInstant's Compliance Officer, in charge of ensuring its (the company's) compliance with anti-money laundering laws. Then he got caught cheating at their game.

Have you read the complaint?

http://www.justice.gov/usao/nys/pressreleases/January14/SchremFaiellaChargesPR/Faiella,%20Robert%20M.%20and%20Charlie%20Shrem%20Complaint.pdf

If you are going to play ball in the US, don't try to beat them at their own game...

Disclaimer: My personal opinion is that drugs should be decriminalized and money laundering is a fake crime, but my opinion doesn't matter when I'm living in the USA!

Byron!

Bingo, albeit change one letter, then rearrange the resulting middle three. It fact, he was captured twice on video during that hand.

I prefer Mosrite's version!

Not really when you think about it because they are arresting him on suspicion that he was exchanging money for bitcoins, based on because he was doing it for people that was using silk road. And either you didn't read the story or your super man that can read a whole page in like 3 seconds then come back here and respond because you responded awfully quick to the time I started this thread.

The story has been out for like half a day man! There are multiple threads in multiple subforums. Didn't you bother to search before you created a new thread on the same topic?

Here is the 27 page complaint, which I've had ample time to read.

That's some conclusion to draw from one dude being arrested for (allegedly) breaking the law.

Your post reminds me of the good ol' days with posters like "s" and "unk".

Must be before my time (or the joke is over my head...)

They were posters like you described.

Not these:

The current breed are mostly going for the instantaneous maximum effect technique, sometimes too blatantly (and too relentlessly, though some people do take the bait).

The other kind.
