With current XMR/BTC value... bye bye mining.

Yep. Can't wring anything out of GPUs anymore. Time to put them out to pasture.

That "PC" is making FARRRRRR too little fan noise for a machine supposedly consuming 3200 watts.

Scam until proven otherwise.

Plutus, you need to provide a trusted community member with a sample to verify your legitimacy. I'm willing to do that for you, and even pay for the unit and provide a review if I actually receive it. I would also be open to paying for it trough trusted escrow to provide legitimacy to your company and a review for end users.

If you're unwilling to at the very least escrow a review unit with someone, nothing else needs to be said.

seems reasonable to me - I've made the same offer.

Yep, any legitimate company starting off would be glad prove they are real.

My PSU is also on it's way.

Anyone? I'd like to make the change to lowmem permanent also.
Apparently the permanent filesystem changes need to be made to the filesystem in /config ? I don't have one of these btw, I only had temporary access to fiddle.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try to figure that out later. If ever you need access to an S4 for any reason, just contact me. I have a batch 1 and a batch 2 that you can fiddle with.
1766  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: October 23, 2014, 05:39:57 AM
Thank you so much for the time you've invested to make the S4 more funtional, ckolivas. I'm going to send you a donation tomorrow morning.

I'd like to try ck's new version tomorrow, but I have no idea how to go about updating cgminer. Can anyone shed some light, or point me towards a guide?
Assuming your S4's IP address was say 192.168.1.99:

Code:
ssh -l root 192.168.1.99 (or equivalent with putty)
wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s4/4.6.1-141018/cgminer
mv /usr/bin/cgminer /usr/bin/cgminer.bak
chmod +x cgminer
mv cgminer /usr/bin/cgminer
/etc/init.d/cgminer.sh restart

I think that might not keep across a power cycle though.

You were right, the changes don't stick across a power cycle. Is there any way to make them permanent?

Anyone? I'd like to make the change to lowmem permanent also.

I also run 225, and have had zero issues. Longest uptime so far would be about ~3 days on my first batch S4, but it's PSU is kaput. This is my batch 2 S4, no issues running 225 either since I received it:

1530w at the wall, ~1345w at the PSU so still in spec. ~0.68w/GH @ wall.
1768  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [9000 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: October 21, 2014, 05:21:14 AM
Here's what pisses me off:

Bitmain says the following regarding their S4, "Power line not included. You may look for one line with no less than 16A in your local market."

Well, I've searched the WORLD WIDE WEB for a C14 Power cord and cannot find one rated higher than 15 amps.

WTF?

Pretty sure they made a typo and meant 16Awg. If you're running on 240v you need an 18AWG cord, ND if you're running 120v use a 14AWG cord.

So my batch 2 unit wouldn't work out of the box. The display was showing the IP as 127.0.0.1. After a bit of messing around, I figured the SD card was to blame and that a reflash was in order.

To anyone else that gets this, you can clear it by simply pressing and holding the reset button [on the LCD].

That didn't work in my case, I attempted that twice. Absolutely had to reflash the SD card.

Can you guys tell me how I can view cgminer via putty on my A2? screen -r doesn't seem to work, and that's about the extent of my linux knowledge.  Embarrassed
1771  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: October 20, 2014, 09:32:10 PM
Got a batch 2 S4 delivered today, and it killed my batch 1 S4 (no, not really but read on..)

So my batch 2 unit wouldn't work out of the box. The display was showing the IP as 127.0.0.1. After a bit of messing around, I figured the SD card was to blame and that a reflash was in order. Since bitmain doesn't offer a full image to download (why don't you, bitmain?), I had to power down my batch 1 S4, pull it's SD card, create an image from it, and flash that image to the new S4's card. Once that was done, the new batch 2 S4 worked as it should. I'm not sure why it didn't work in the first place, since bitmain had obviously tested it judging by the accumulated (very little) dust in the miner.

Now, for my B1 S4... About 30 seconds after the fans calmed down from their initial spin-up, I was treated to a smoke show like to other. A thick stream of Magic Smoke plumed out of the B1 S4's PSU for a good 10 seconds, before going out with an extremely LOUD pop. That loud pop was a short bad enough to trip the 30A 240V breaker that miner was connected to.

To add insult to injury, the event seems to have killed the on-board NIC on a PC that was connected to the same circuit, so that is also out of commission for now.

Alas, my dreams of hashing at 4TH/s went up in a plume of Magic Smoke. Hopefully bitmain will get a new PSU out to me soon, but I'm doubtful. I contacted them about replacing my PSU the day the offered replacements, but I haven't gotten an email back yet. Has anyone received their new PSU yet?

Fortunately I had another S4 to get an image from, if anyone runs into the same issue let me know and I'll upload the image.

I had the same issue with the power supply… that was over a week ago and still nothing from Bitmain… No 10 days mining credit and no word on when I will get my replacement PSU's

Very sad … I should be hashing at close to 8 THs but with one unit totally down its very depressing to see it just sit there .

That sucks, and I now feel your pain. I have no doubt that they will come through with both the replacement PSU and compensation, but a time frame or some sort of update from bitmain would be very appreciated by all affected, I'm sure.

I just fired off another email to them, I'll post if I get a reply.

1774  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN‘s Liquid Cooled Miner C1: It is not only cool, but it is cool on: October 20, 2014, 07:11:16 AM
I think it will not be a problem to run three C1s with one strong pump... will give it a try :-)

With the super cheap kits being sold I'm not sure there is a reason to. Removes all your redundancy with no benefit.

I agree. However, I still have a lot of old stuff here in my basement, so I'll only have to buy some fittings and new tubes. Especially with a 9-fan-radiator and a 1800l/h-pump, I guess it should be possible. In the worst case, one miner will be super-cool while the middle will be warm and the third one overheated...

Heh, we have a company we contract for that has a couple Techniwell TW700s sitting idle. I wonder how many one of those could run? Smiley

All the C1 blocks will explode. You put to much trust into Chinese alu waterblock.

Did you really take his comment seriously? A 700 horse power pump? Seriously? You bothered to explain that a water block would explode?  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Disclaimer: I have no Titan but I do dabble with RPi on occasion.
I have also been using Linux for over 20 years.
Back in the days of expensive RAM, swap problems were on most peoples radar.

I think the SD corruption is caused by 'swap' partition.

Based on 2 screenshots, 2 days apart, by Prelude above, one 'might' determine...
The miner has a slow RAM leak.
I'd guess 6-8 days till it runs out of RAM
(based on the tiny sample of 2 screenshots)

If/when it runs out of RAM it starts using the swap partition for RAM storage.

With a fast 'spinning platter' hard disk swapping RAM to disk destroys performance.

With swap on an SD card expect worse performance.
Using an SD for swap could be expected to kill the SD card also.
IMneverHO

If it were mine I would eliminate the swap partition and learn to live with available RAM.
I'd consider it better that the miner just stop and reboot when RAM is exhausted.
I doubt it would keep mining anyways because swap is too slow to use as RAM.
At least it would restart without SD corruption.

A class 10 SDcard might help but they were not designed for random access usage.

YMMV
Smiley

Very interesting. I'm using a faster than class 10 card (UHS-1), a SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB. As a Linux noob, should I just reboot the Titan every ~5 days or so? Or should I attempt to figure out how to disable the swap partition?
1776  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 19, 2014, 06:57:32 PM
Ok, OCed mine a bit.

Code:
arm_freq=900
core_freq=250
sdram_freq=400
force_turbo=1

Only OCed the CPU from 700MHz to 900MHz. I see no point OCing the GPU and RAM for this purpose. I'm guessing OCing the RAM especially could lead to issues with the SD card?

Doesn't seem to have made much of a difference:

Advanced tab does load a bit quicker, though.
1777  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 19, 2014, 06:30:21 PM
Has OCing the pi shown any benefit for you? After a few minutes of looking at top, the highest usage I saw was ~87% of the pi's CPU across all processes. Doesn't seem to be a bottleneck.

I do have 2 dead DC/DC, though.

Thanks for that, just finished upgrading. Also changed out --que-8192 for --lowmem. One issue, though; when I screen -r I no longer see the general cgminer stats at the top of the terminal window, this is what I get:

Is that normal or did I screw something up?
Yes I didn't build my binary with the text user interface support. It was easier to minimise the dependencies since it involves a messy cross compilation, and the text interface does nothing useful for the web interface.

Ok, thanks for the explanation. Rig is hashing much better with this build, seeing an increased reported hashrate on slush.
1779  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 18, 2014, 08:09:27 PM
would this be what I want (have no frigging clue on SD card stuff)

I think 8 GB would be plenty.

I can recommend this one http://www.provantage.com/sandisk-sdsdqxp-008g-a46~7SNDK35X.htm

Maximum Read Speed: 95 MBps

hell I may just use a 32gb anyway....it is not like the Titan is gonna last past 90 days anyway...the way it seems to be built I can then use this card on something else

unless there is some reason NOT to go larger ..ie KNC being stupid and only handling 8gb or some such?

by the way what size SD card are they even sending with the KNC units?.....I probably should just match it as close as possible again....unless....folks are saying 8gb is the way to go

(always best to follow in the footsteps of those before in this knc titan wtf is going on mine field!) Smiley

anyway clue me in ...I'm just gonna get the dang thing and flash it just in case i get the solid white light everyone keeps talking about on here

(frigging knc amateur hour don't ya know...not sure if I would buy a clock radio from these guys....would burn your house down)

I'm using the 32GB version of the Sandisk Extreme Pro just fine. It was the only quality option available locally when the included 4GB Kingston card died, everything else was class 4.

Make sure you flash v1.02 .bz2 file, and nothing else. You'll have to upgrade to v1.04 using the web interface.
