My bet for ATH is 17.08. Reason: the Segwith will be activated by then and Jihan Wu will abandon his ABC project.
1783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Barry Silbert segwit2x agreement with >80% miner support. on: July 20, 2017, 11:11:17 AM
Exactly as I expected, miners signalled for Segwit2x, now they slowly withdraw hashpower to prevent Segwit from activating. Is anyone here smart enough to tell me what happens if Segwit "locks" but doesn't "activate" (scheduled to be around mid-August according to my reading). Imagine August 1: BIP148 tries to take over, BitcoinABC begins mining, Segwit2x is in flux, and the world is watching...
....

On the positive side, maybe ABC will be a new chain with value. Sort of like a stock split - maybe existing coin will be worth something on both BTC and BABC blockchains... But I doubt 148Coin will last more than a few days... These morons crooning about "POW change" can do each other up the azzes...

You describe Core's plan B actually, when Segwit is not supported by enough miners. Then there WILL be a permanent POW change, so you will not be able to mine bitcoins, only the new ABC fork.
1784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Barry Silbert segwit2x agreement with >80% miner support. on: July 19, 2017, 01:00:09 PM
Ver should just start his own coin - Vercoin! I have a feeling Roger will signal BU till the very bitter end.

I've been asking the same question myself. The aswer probably is that Ver isn't a good programmer/cryptographer to invent a new coin. The whitepapers of ethereum and zcash for example are way beyond his IQ capacity  Grin Another reason is that if a coin is a fork to bitcoin it will attract more the pump groups in Poloniex.
1785  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 19, 2017, 06:58:28 AM
It seems that the danger of segwit-failure-fork is (almost) gone. However, there still remains the HF in 3 months, so the price won't go as far as we wish. Besides, Roger Ver and Jihan Wu still want to make use of the situation and fork their own altcoins. These 'inverstors' like to buy new coins and pump them with the help of their associates in Poloniex. They may have a general notion of blockchain but they are ignorant of the cryptography  embedded in the white papers of the leading altcoins like ethereum and zcash. Unfortunately BU and/or ABC can emerge anytime and survive as forks even with their present hashrate. As always, the common bitcoin holders are at the mercy of the big whales. I would prefer a POW change that will make useless the asics and return the mining to the gpu's and cpu's. Btw the above mentioned altcoins have a code that prevents the asic technology to take advantage over gpu's, so the china dominion would be over for good. Then we will have a really decentralized bitcoin.

If you do have fiat, set sub 2000 bids up.  I did a week ago.

Can't see it holding all the way to the 1st at this rate whatever happens.  And if Segwit signalling doesn't look close at the end of the month it will get messier still; you may be looking at today's price with a wistful nostalgic sigh.

Note:  been away, and about to head off again to where it's light until midnight. However, I'm very happy with the WO survival...  and congrats to infofront for being brave enough to take on the thread. Right man for the job IMHO.

for a very new guy like me, how far do you acctually think the price will drop

and off my stash of btc that i have been buying (actually not knowing what i was buying ) for 1.5year  never sold a coin still just keep holding ??

Keep buying! Downside is very limited. We'll see >10000 by the end of this year.

thanks for the advice the last days where breathe taking Smiley Smiley  but just to learn understand what do you think acctualy is happening now or is going to happing ( explaind in easy terms and easy english cause i'm normal dutch speaking Smiley   )

and i will keep buying dips then

Take any advice here with a bit of salt. There are some users like Lauda who are well known for manupulating people to rob their money.

And I was thinking Ver accepted the fiasco of his BU project. Now he will try to sabotage segwit: https://www.dashforcenews.com/bitcoin-com-to-dump-segwit2x-roger-ver-might-help-nchain-block-segwit/
Pride, greed and envy are the forces that drive this lunatic. Angry
1789  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 13, 2017, 01:52:05 PM
Since this is the speculation thread, do you guys think we will get to 2600 again before august? Lost and made some money, still need a bit more to break even again.

Bro, I'll heartedly advice you not to play in such a volatile market as crypto is. Unless you're a full skilled trader from stock markets. BTC is king and will win the final battle against fiat. Soon things will be like that:

You are completely right, I'm definitely not a skilled trader yet, just been lurking for some time

I am just playing with around 2k, and I only buy in trends + when I see clear candle patterns and with the info from this website and telegram. So most of the time I only make "safe" (I know it is almost never safe") trades. But then I discovered leverage trades, made some good money, adrenaline was pumping, got overconfident (also the drinks did not help) went long just as it was turning (Still have no idea where my logic went).

I am aspiring to become a full skilled stock trader, BTC just happened to come on my path and with little money you could still easily make a couple of 100 bucks. Also the idea of using it as long term savings account looked great since in Holland I get less then 1% growth in a year... Also since the laws for bitcoins are still in a grey area you can do a lot of fun things with it (currently writing a coin buying and investing website with ideal support for a select amount of people). The API's in general are funt to work with as a programmer so it gives me some incentive to work.

As soon as I get that website up and running and have some more funds I'll start opening up a proper broker account and reading into where to start there... This is getting a bit off topic but any suggestions on where I can start even with a low amount off funds. Probably best not to post it here.

TLDR;
Lost all my earnings and a chunk of my 2k due too leverage and intoxicated, slowly getting it back. Also do want to get into  normal

better to buy as the price goes down and sell as the price goes up, but don't buy or sell too much in order that you do not run out of either bitcoins (on the way up) or fiat (on the way down).

So in that regard, if you only have bitcoins because you used all your fiat to buy at a price that is higher than the current price, then you just have to wait it out for however much time it takes to return to you purchase price level, even if it takes a year or two.

In the meantime, if BTC prices continue to go down, which surely is possible, just continue to buy $10 per week (or whatever reasonable amount is in your budget), and sooner or later, you continue to bring down your average cost per BTC and you will be back in the the game and be able to sell some of your bitcoins either below $2600 or above $2600 (but as long as you are selling as the price goes up and buying as the price goes down, you should be good), and whenever BTC returns to that $2600 level (whether this week or a few years from now), you will be fully back... and hopefully learned some lessons along the way...hahahahaha   Cheesy

Sounds like a clever plan. But i just buy and sell. And have 1 (1.03) Bitcoin more today, compaired to yesterday. Does that suffice ?
Let me brag a bit, my life is otherwise pretty boring . . . Smiley

Actually, I think this plan is pretty good. On the other hand, If you really made 1 btc today this means that you sold 100 btc at the top and then buyed again at the bottom (-1% tops with reduced trading fees). But what if the bitcoin surprised you and raised by 5-10%? Then you will lose bigger profit in fiat than all possible gains in the 1%-daily trading.

Is anyone having a similar problem to this: One of my 280x cards suddenly started freezing the miner and windows as soon as it starts hashing. If I put -li option it hashes a bit longer but again hangs. I tried several different risers and different psu, installed newer drivers but still the same result. Then I dissasembled and reassebled again the card. I put it back again and here we go... it works perfectly untill now (2 months later). Now, the funny part: the same problem happened to another 2 cards of the same rig. Unfortunately this trick doesn't work on them Sad What may be the reason for that? Is it possible that the thermal paste has something to do with it?

1792  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 23, 2017, 02:40:31 PM
The rise of btc with 10% at bitfinex and poloniex since the last week with regard to usdt is fake, since in kraken usdt dropped by 8-10% to the fiat usd. The whales are trying to bite the 1%-profit daily traders so the whales can withdraw in time to their bank accounts before the big drop. They are still trying to delude the traders that there is a chance bitfinex can be saved. The truth is it is doomed and this was planned a long time ago. These two exchanges (btc-e and biftiniex) are well known for their shady owners and fears of exit scam. It is a matter of days, may be hours before the bad news is announced. If the so called 'bad news" of tightening control of chinese exchanges, sec denial and bu fork, lead to 40% drop of price, imagine the damage to the price caused by real bad news of the imminent bankruptcy of one (possibly) two of the largest exchanges. This may lead to panic withdrawals from other exchanges, so nobody can predict how deep will be the new emerging crisis. Huh Of course the btc (now usd) whales will buy very low just to sell a year or two at a much higher level.

One of my old cards was overheated (above 90 C) because its fans stopped. Now it works for several minutes, then the hashrate starts to drop until the cards stops (the fans are working and it has normal temperature).  I tried with -li option. It works longer but in the end stops. Is it dead, or I can do something to save it?

So the fans are spinning correctly now? Try resetting it to the factory defaults clocks and monitoring it to make sure the fans are running constantly and not stopping and starting randomly.

The fans of this card broke a long time ago (it is an old Sapphire 280x). Back then I attached a 10cm 3500rpm double bearing external fan to it. The fan was powered by a 4 pin cable conected to the molex of the psu. Unfortunately the connection was loose and sometimes the fan stopped causing overheating above 90, may be 100 C. After that the rig crashed but for some time I didn't notice that this card was overheating and crashing the rig. Now the fan is attached to the mainboard and it works all the time. However, even with temps of the gpu at 50 C  the card stops after 1-5 mins max and the rig crashes. It was always at stock settings. I am afraid the card is gone. I was just wondering if by coincedence this may be caused by the driver, psu or the riser. It is a lot of work to test all possibilites. In the end I can try the famous 'baking' trick to revive the card.  Tongue

1795  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Zcash? on: April 15, 2017, 05:40:29 AM
At this point Zcash only exists to reimburse Zcash developers for constructing SNARKS.

Once Ethereum incorporates SNARKS there will be no use for Zcash. As Zcash started high and terminated low, it's short existence will have paid for everything.

Thus, everyone wins. (As long as you don't buy).
+1. Anyone buying into Zcash must be ignorant of this fact.

Snarks means that with smart contracts zcash transactions can be integrated on ethereum blockchain. It is like an independent exchange so that the users can choose to create anonymous tokens and verify Zcash transactions on the Ethereum blockchain. I don't see how this is bad for zcash, since it will generate more demand for zcash. Read here https://blog.ethereum.org/2017/01/19/update-integrating-zcash-ethereum/. This reminds me of DAO tokens which convert to ethereum. The only problem could be if there is a vulnerability used by some hacker like DAO, which is quite probable since even now zcash wallet has a ddos vulnerability, monitored closely by the developers. However, the
'bad' news didn't affect the price and even a big pump occured yesterday (again).
1796  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Zcash? on: April 14, 2017, 11:04:34 AM
zCash is getting market support. zClassic and zencoin will also be interesting.

Zcash has never lost its market support to begin with. It's predecessor zClassic may get the same kind of support at some point as it continue to develop.
Zcash worst enemy is Zcash itself. High start price, more coins mined and dumped by the miners will put Zcash in a for ever bear market unless the demand will increase. That why Zcash is always decreasing and sometimes it pumps

Every 'big' mining coin has periods of bear trend. This is the time the mining and trading whales accumulate huge quantity of the coin. Then they spent some bitcoins to start a 100-1000% pump so they sell at that price. This is the story of eth, etc and now zcash. Since 24 Feb Zcash is in bull trend. This was anticipated and predicted by informed people on some forums. I didn't believe and now I regret it. Moreover, zcash is supported by Ethereum developers, which plan to integrate it on their blockchain for anonymity in near futue. https://btcmanager.com/devcon2-update-zcash-integration-scaling-and-adoption/

Guys, do you want ZEC to rise? If you do, why you put 40-50-60 btc sell walls on poloniex during pumps? Do you really think that your lazy trading will bring you profit? Place small bids several times during the pump if you are so eager to sell at that price. Thank you!

Doubtful it is the miners, as most who are going to sell, sell small amounts daily and not accumulate 40-60 BCT worth of ZEC to just to place a sell wall as you describe a few pennies higher than the market rate. Much more likely the action of speculators and/or whales trying to manipulate the price.

So is there a way for miners to help raise ZEC?

If Zec makes 5-6% there is every chance  the pump will gain speed and reach 20-50 and even 100%. It is a pity that all pumps ended too early because of 1-2 noobs that put sell walls. The moment they put 20 and more btc the pump stops, because the traders see that there is no way this wall will be eaten provided that the 24hr volume is so small and the usual trades are around 1-2 btc max. Of course the bid will never be filled so the noob gets no profit at all but he damages the profits of the whole community.

Hey Guys
Can i mine Zec with my rx 480  8gb nitro+

and what mhs per card it will give me

Thanks  Smiley

Yes you can, but I think these cards are more profitable for ETH or ETC if you pay the electricity. Check out the mining calculator http://whattomine.com.

Is it a good investment guys? I feel like stuck because since I got some, its been going down at polo.
Will I ever be able to recover? Any idea of a pump any time soon?

My guess is that zcash (zec) will reach 0.1 btc by the end of the year tops (most probably in 3-4 months). Looking at what happened to monero, ethereum (ETH) and ethereum classic (ETC) I see a similar pattern. ETH and ETC were dropping for months until they exploded. Who could know that when ETH was again at 6$ it will become 50-60$ after only 3 months. But this all has its explanation. The big mining whales have resources to cause 100-1000% increase of the price. So I guess the 100% increase of ZEC that already happened won't be alone. At least I hope so because I bought back all my mined ZEC.
