partners are building and deploying on the #NEM blockchain. Not speculation, not whitepapers. But actually building AND deploying. Is your company set up for success? Choose wisely.

I agree, its now starting to get hard to keep track of all the high quality projects that are starting to build on NEM and make a difference.
There is also a few Ethereum projects switching over to NEM because they simply cant make it work on ETH.

It's weird how the market seems immune to good news. I have to laugh about those Ethereum projects switching to NEM because they simply can't make it work on ETH. I can't even successfully run an ETH wallet, let alone an entire project! And somewhere on my hard drive are two copies of the ETH block chain, but I can't actually find them, because they're not stored in the usual place, and it's not clear where they are... but my hard drive is about full because of it. How that coin is so popular I'll never understand!

My "pain in the butt factor" has more to do with accounting for accurate gain/loss of exchange trades.

For proper accounting of trades, I highly recommend CoinTracking. I bought the unlimited lifetime membership. It wasn't cheap, but it has saved me hours and hours of trying to figure it out with a spreadsheet. When there are quirks, like a period of time where your coin isn't tracked on CMC, it will involve more hands-on data entry for that part, but it does all the basis/gains/loss calculations as accurately as the data you feed it. My accountants were impressed with it.

The DNotes market report for Friday, June 8, 2018

We now have two active DNotes markets: NLexch and Stocks.exchange. At this time, neither one is recognized by CoinMarkecap, so I will continue posting the information from both markets once a day so we can keep track of DNotes' price.

On NLexch the low price is 420 Satoshi and the high price is 550 Satoshi. The last price was 420 Satoshi, or 0.032207 USD. The current high bid is 420 and the low ask is 780. The 24 hour volume is 9,999.995 NOTE.

On Stocks.exchange the low price is 310 Satoshi and the high price is 577 Satoshi. The last price was 310 Satoshi, or 0.023771 USD. The current high bid is 420 and the low ask is 311. The 24 hour volume is 133,745.56 NOTE.

You are correct about the "scorecard" aspect of CMC, which is maybe less relevant to DNotes than it might be to other coins. However, an active listing there will be most helpful for me (and I'm sure I speak for others too) in establishing tax basis and determining income for all those newly minted DNotes entering my wallet. I use CoinTracking.info, which runs APIs from both CMC and Cryptocoin Charts in determining historical prices. During the gap where we aren't actively listed on CMC (and I assume Cryptocoin Charts--or maybe that's where the 0.004 USD price is coming from), I'm going to have to go back to each individual minting transaction and manually enter the actual price based on the data I've recorded from my DNotes market reports, and then probably make a guess as to what the actual price was before I started producing those reports. It will be very nice to have that be automatic again.

As long as we're working on getting active on CMC again, could we also reach out to Cryptocoin Charts to make sure its information on DNotes is also accurate?

Ah, really great point. Didn't think of that kinda thing at all.

I wouldn't have either, but 2017 taxes was a rude awakening for me on that point. One of the coins I got into, STEEM, I recently chose to get out of. Why? Because its block chain is built in such a way that accurate record keeping is basically impossible. I call it Tax time pain in the butt factor. And it's a real issue.

"Tax time pain in the butt factor." That may remain an industry problem for years to come.

But not with DNotes, right?

I will say that when I gathered all my transaction data from DNotes Vault, everything checked out, despite the fact that many transactions were carried out off chain--that's how DNotes Vault worked with the old DNotes. On that score, please keep up the good work.

Another thing that should be seriously considered: Updating the tech on our coin to match the current technology.

Traditional Proof of Work coins are getting replaced by the sleeker (from an electricity usage point of view) proof of stake and masternode coins. They also include features like smart contracts, invoicing, etc.

We probably need to update Devcoin to modernize it, which is going to mean a complete hard fork. Two coins I'm involved in, DMD Diamond and DNotes, very recently did this. It involved among other things taking a snapshot of the network and then starting on that basis with the new fork, beginning again at block zero, effectively swapping out everyone's old coins for new coins.

masternodes are not a good idea, if you try to HARD FORK devcoin it's no longer DEVCOIN and make proof of stake clone coin please make the algo linear to distribution  Cool  jmho

You can have a POS coin without masternodes. DNotes is currently doing that. Of course we would want the algo to most closely represent what Devcoin stands for and what it does best. A good coin needs to have good leadership. That's really what makes the coin what it is; the tech helps, but it's pretty neutral.
187  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - 4/2/2018 Now Live on: June 08, 2018, 05:00:23 PM
Like the listing on stocks.exchange, I do like that exchange.

However, it may be a lonnngggg time before Dnotes gets listed on CMC again. Currently one needs to meet certain volume thresholds these days to be listed, and Dnotes is nowhere close to those levels at the moment.

Stocks currently has value of Dnotes at 500 sats which is pretty good, more or less where it was prior to delisting from Cryptopia.

From what I understand you need multiple supported exchanges and some level of volume, I didn't see the actual volume requirements though. I don't believe it will take us long.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. CMC is a scorecard that doesn't truly matter in terms of core innovation.

That said, we're still a Top 100 coin, and it'll be nice when the market's scorecard reflects that :-)

We probably need to update Devcoin to modernize it, which is going to mean a complete hard fork.

If going down that route, my thoughts are that we should seriously consider putting is some minor deflation to DVC. Even steem is producing ever so little less each round so that it should be down 95% of its present volume created by 2040. We could have DVC  deflating at even less than that. Feeling very positive about the DVC - Steem merged mining concept of develCuy, my feeling is that we should always be able to buy back DVC if need be in some distant future.

- Nova

P.S. There is also the concept for programmers to consider if Proof of Work DVC could be given as a Proof of Brain SMT by some convoluted fashion. Perhaps by having a legitimate DVC reward pool to draw from?

P.P.S. Beginning to think that we should use the exact deflation of steem. As @devcoin expressed so well in their recent post, "Have you ever heard that there is no age for love?" Why not two hearts that beat as one? Smiley

@devcoin's post:

https://steemit.com/witness-category/@devcoin/the-present-and-future-of-devcoin-steem-integration

I'm not necessarily sold on deflation, though not particularly against it. I do believe it would be very helpful to curb the inflation rate substantially.

190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: 40 Share Award for CTYA for Listing on Bisq on: June 08, 2018, 12:14:02 PM
Hi Wiser,

yes you download the Bisq client and it runs like the devcoin client / wallet where it connects to nodes and peers, select your currency from dropdown menus and shows rates etc. Not worked out how to actually trade or deposit yet but might make a steemit article if i get it working etc or put one on devtome

Fuzzybear

I went ahead and installed the Bisq network program. It's kind of a wallet, sort of. I figured out where the DVC/BTC market is and how to make an offer. That market it currently empty. They require a security deposit of 0.01 BTC just to make an offer, which is a HUGE turnoff. The platform is also rather clunky, as are all decentralized exchanges I've had to use over the years. I don't much like it. I'll keep playing around. I want to see if there might be a DVC/LTC market. I don't see why not. It might be easier to visualize if a few others placed offers.

Paying part of a listing fee to be on Stocks.exchange just got more attractive...

The other elephant in the room issue I see with the whole listing DVC on an exchange thing is this: what reason would people have for buying it? Can we point to anything being developed, worked on, planned, that would make this coin attractive to a potential buyer? It has to go beyond "DVC is one of the oldest cryptocoins so it's historic."

We are back to exchanges and now figure out the next step: Trading Volume. People use crypto as an asset, for speculation or as a currency. Devcoin was created as a currency due to its volatility and infinite supply. In short, IMHO we should focus on promoting the use of Devcoin for buying goods and services.

Look at Github, they are a Software as a Service (SaaS) company, acquired by Micro$oft for US$7.5 billion a few days ago. Now look at STEEM, they have their own currency and they are creating services all the time, that should be constant for us as well.

Let's create new services that accept Devcoin, and let's make existing services to accept Devcoin. It will turn on our engine of growth.

I definitely want to encourage this thinking, as well as action. I'm not a developer or coder so can't help directly with the coding, but I am good at writing so could contribute more in the promotional literature department. I'd like to see an updated list of what services are available for Devcoin and which ones are in development.

I think it would be worthwhile to focus those services and development on a niche that no one is catering to, rather than competing with all the other stuff that's out there. One suggestion: Due to its currently low value and high fungibility, I think Devcoin would really shine in the whole micropayments category. There has been a lot of talk about websites moving from an ad revenue model to a tip based model, where people tip articles and other content they found especially helpful, and in return they get an ad free experience. I think Devcoin would be well suited for that. To to that, a web based light wallet would have to be developed (average user won't deal with downloading 6+ years of block chain), then integrated into whatever website will support it. I'm thinking something along the lines of what MetaMask is for Ethereum--a browser extension that can be connected directly to an app like CryptoKitties, though in the case of the wallet and app, hopefully both actually work better.
191  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questionable wealth because of Crypto on: June 08, 2018, 03:42:44 AM
Our Government here will always question people who become rich instantly, sometimes they will relate all the wealth to drugs and smuggling so they can send us to jail for a questionable wealth and not paying taxes. they will do background checking, even if they dont find any illegal activities we did they still think that we do illegal. What if I become rich because of BTC do you think they will believe if I say that its bitcoin that making me rich? How will I explained to them?

Track everything you do. Use a tracking service such as CoinTracking. Record all your deposits, withdrawals and trades. Seek appropriate tax advice and pay your taxes. You shouldn't have any problems.
192  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A small guide about merits on: June 08, 2018, 03:39:08 AM
This is great advice. I think I'll save the link to the OP and refer anyone begging for merit to it. The only thing I would add is: Don't post unless you have something to say.

Well, since the begging system (sorry, the Merit system) was implemented, every day we all see new threads asking, begging, getting desperate about how to get those appreciate numbers under the users' names. For those all that feel they deserve merits but, for some reasons, they don't get it, and with the purpose of helping to stop these kinds of threads, here goes some (useful??) advice:

1. When you enter into a community that happens to be there for years, you should be patient. I mean: just read, and learn all that you can about it before even trying to get your place in there. Show some respect for the work of the other users, for they have been in there for years, and you can't just be at the same level by a week of work. So, first advice: be respectful and humble.

2. Asking for some recognition is not going anyway. As much as you ask for something you don't deserve, the less respect you will receive, so, second advice: never beg for merits.

3. The forum is a very big place with a lot of hidden corners, so just explore it fully in order to find where you can be a useful person. Third advice, then: explore the forum.

4. I have done threads offering merits in exchange of knowledge, but most of the people didn't even read well the instructions, and they posted whatever they wanted, most of them off-topic. So, fourth advice: always read well before answering.

5. The merit system is relatively new for all. It will need some time to be fully understood and well-implement. Also, many people here are just getting desperate for they don't receive merits, so, fifth advice: do not get desperated. The most you obsessed with merit, the less you will receive. Just chill for a while, relax and read.

6. There are some new users writing really constructive threads, and they have been rewarded. Explore, again, the forum, and learn from them. So, in the sixth place, learn from other users. One example: there are some users here trying to really help Newbies to improve their skills. This is the case of Jet Cash, who has created this website https://fittotalk.com/english-talk/index.php for you people to learn how to write good posts in English.

Of course, there are too many other pieces of advice I can think about. For instance, the language issue. I am not a native-English-speaker, so every day, I try to study and improve it a bit. How? By reading in English (newspapers, books, etc), by studying the English Grammar (there is some app, like Wlingua, really useful to learn a bit per day). If you want to write in another language, then you will need some study (Google translator doesn't work, folks, just try a bit harder). Hey, my English is far from being perfect, but, at least, I do my best!

The biggest problem most of the beggers have is money: they come here into the forum seeking to earn some bitcoin. Well, people, it will take a while, and you will need to work hard. You can't just go into a place and say "Hey, give me some money, I know nothing, I am not willing to learn nothing, but I deserve it!!!"... Um... nop, it just can't work!! So, if you are here just because you think this is going to be easy to earn money, then first learn about Bitcointalk, ok? For in here you have a lot of useful information about cryptoworld and, for sure, you will find your own path if you are willing to learn.

So, last advice: just LEARN. This is free, people, free!

193  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: South Africa Bitcoin Vending machine on: June 08, 2018, 03:15:04 AM
I'm trying to work out how a Bitcoin ATM or Bitcoin vending machine would actually work. Would you pay by using your smartphone wallet to pay to the QR code on the machine (to get candy)? Or, would you enter your debit card to buy BTC and have it sent to a specific address?

Since BTC can generally be bought and sold completely online, it seems a little counter-intuitive to need an actual ATM machine.

How are people using BTC vending machines or ATMs?
194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can the volatility of Bitcoin be curbed? on: June 08, 2018, 02:59:39 AM
One major obstacle toward Bitcoin's acceptance by the mainstream is its extreme volatility. Effectively, this volatility means that Bitcoin is more a commodity than a currency.

That being the case, if, and that's a big 'IF', we wish to further the cause of Bitcoin as a currency with mainstream acceptance, there needs must be a mechanism in place to 'dampen' the volatility.

Central Banks stabilise their International fiat currencies through some exchange rate mechanism, that prevents excessive volatility. Can a similar mechanism operate for Bitcoin?

But, who will be in charge of a setup that is not just intentionally decentralised, it is explicitly anti-centralised?!

Are these just the design limitations of Bitcoin that we have to put up with; or can Bitcoin evolve?

Things that tend to dampen volatility are widespread adoption and use, lots of volume on exchanges so price doesn't move very quickly, and intrinsic value.

Bitcoin has some serious challenges for widespread adoption, and its decentralized, leaderless nature pretty much guarantees those challenges will not be effectively addressed for the time being.

A centralized exchange rate mechanism would pretty much defeat the purpose of decentralized peer to peer transactions, so I wouldn't recommend it, and I don't think it would work anyway.

I don't see Bitcoin evolving in a way that could curb the volatility, though it might be dampened somewhat by significantly more speculators getting into the game.

For an example of a cryptocurrency that is proactively addressing these challenges with Bitcoin and gearing up for widespread global adoption, take a look at DNotes and its sister company DNotes Global. The project is not widely known at this point, has been operating largely under the radar, but over the past four years it has been very steadily and quietly building up and putting together the pieces, and one day, probably in the next couple years, it's going to take the world by storm. All of a sudden, there will be a digital currency that seamlessly bridges the gap between cryptocurrency and traditional financial structures, that is totally user-friendly and intuitive to use, and which is supported by an extensive ecosytem to give it intrinsic value. You don't build something like that overnight, but for most people it will appear like the proverbial overnight success.

Stocks.exchange

So... what do we do? Do folks want to chip in to get it listed? That adds up to roughly five thousand dollars for listing. It might also make sense to do a DVC/LTC pair.

I have also received an offer to pay-to-list at listex.io.  After discussing with UTB, I have not pursued the completion of these payments.

Devcoin is listed at Freiexchange (https://freiexchange.com/market/DVC/BTC) so it does not seem worthwhile to pay for other exchanges while the volume is so low at Freiexchange

As the volume picks up, we can exchange the Devcoin round shares for the payment fee at a more realistic DVC/BTC price, IMHO

That sounds reasonable. I do have one concern, though. DNotes was recently listed on Stocks.exchange. Before that it had been listed on one of those small exchanges no one has ever heard about. The day after it got listed on Stocks.exchange, its price went up a third again from what it had been on the unknown exchange. I couldn't guarantee that the exact same thing would happen with DVC. However, there is something to be said for placing it on a higher volume exchange to begin with. Higher volume *might* also lead to higher price.

Frei Exchange has very little volume, and I wonder if it's the coin or the exchange that is the cause. How many people simply aren't going to trade there because it's an unknown exchange?

Just something to think about. What if a group of 20 of us collectively put in the listing fee and then got reimbursed in DVC on the next round with either shares or equal to the corresponding BTC amount at market rate? I know I couldn't cover the entire listing fee, but I could "loan" 1/20th of it. I think it would be worth going for both a BTC/DVC pair and a LTC/DVC pair.

In preferences, go to Display altcoins (bottom right)
Click on "add altcoin"
click on Devcoin (DVC)

Start trading!  Smiley

so CTYA is awarded 40 shares for listing devcoin on the second exchange.

I'm going to have to take a look at this too. So, you have to install something on your computer first? I don't really understand.
