181  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Older men vs Younger boys in gambling, Which enjoys Gambling for fun the more? on: February 04, 2024, 09:57:50 PM
Hi gamblers,

So, a particular discussion on the gambling board which I am part of; actually put this question into my head, and I thought I should ask the gambling community here, so we could possibly have some fun discussion it.

And the question is very simple, Between the older men (talking of from 60 years old and above), and younger men (talking of from 18 to 45 years of age) which of this category of men actually gamble for fun the more?

If I was to answer this question, I did say that the older men are more likely to be gambling for fun, than the younger men, and this is due to several reasons which I am not going to mention yet, but will see users who share in this same view of mine will be able to also come up with same reasons.

So, feel free guys and ladies, lets discuss.

I guess younger men have many other more exciting things to do apart from gambling.  Grin  For older people it's a nice way to relax, also older people  often have more spare money. Just my 2c.

182  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you spent $500-$1000 on bitcoin in 2009-2010 on: February 04, 2024, 09:28:18 PM
Let's say you were the 2nd person to mine bitcoins besides Satoshi himself. Every time someone else mined bitcoins besides you and Satoshi you bought them. The going rate back in 2009 to January 2010 was $1 for 1400 so let's say you bought every bitcoin besides your own mined and Satoshi's from January 3rd 2009 ( the first mined bitcoin by Satoshi ) to February 2010 and then kept buying for the few months every time someone mined bitcoins you asked if you could buy them. Then when Laszlo did the pizza deal, you would've bought him a lot of pizzas, then when SmokeTooMuch tried to sell 10,000 for $50 and another guy tried to sell 22,000 bitcoins for like $70-$80 you would've bought that... basically every time it came available. You'd probably have about $500-$1000 into bitcoin by now... and you'd own like 5 million bitcoins... no one else would bother to mine them then, you'd own all the rest of the bitcoins besides Satoshi's who disappears in 2010 and then you disappear in 2011 with your 5 million, no one remembers what bitcoin is and you'd have a net worth of 0! yay

Interesting scenario, I've never thought about such possibility, but it seems that it's entirely possible. Well, apart from the fact that it would be pretty hard to buy ALL and EVERY Bitcoin out there.
183  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: February 04, 2024, 07:46:35 PM
According to some insider info from the tennis world, Ostapenko is not a very nice person on and off the court. She used to complain about linesmen calls all the time, now after the computer system took over at most tournaments, she still continues to complain about out calls and that looks absolutely ridiculous! I mean, no player challenges hawkeye decisions except her. What is wrong with her anyway?

Ostapenko was able to win the final. She did not face too many problems, to be honest. I expected the match to be very competitive. But it did not seem to be any problem for her. About her being a good person or not, I don't know about that. And I am not going to comment on that too much as well. But what I will say is maybe we should not judge so quickly.

Anyway, watching Bublik v Coric atm. Coric is losing the second set after winning first set 7:5. He is now 1:4 down. Bublik has a nice chance to take the match into the 3rd set.

The third set is being played right now. And both of them have got one set so far. Looks like it is going to be pretty competitive and whoever wins this match, it will be a very hard-fought victory for him.

well as serveria.com has said she doesnt have a great reputation, I have heard that before actually.
In the end today she got the job done in what seems like easy fashion, 6-2, 6-3. That is only her
second title, surprising really, I thought she had way more success. Anyway well done to her, I didnt
make a bet on that match.

Over with Bublik v Coric - Bublik got the job done and again in 3 sets, after losing the 1st set I put
a bet on him @ 1.85 just based on the fact that every match he played this week was a 3 setter!!
he did it the hard way - thats also a sign to me of a change in mental strength and attitude on his
behalf compared to early last year and before. I think I am a fan now of Bublik!!!

Yeah, great performance by Bublik after so much time spent on court this week. Coric, on the other hand, only played a single set in his semifinal against Rune, which he won and Rune immediately withdrew. It looks like this season is going to be successful for Bublik.

In other news: Djokovic announced he's planning to play in Indian Wells this year.
184  Economy / Economics / Re: The impact of war on global economy. on: February 04, 2024, 06:47:16 PM
Oil is the main key to a country. If war occurs, those who have a lot of oil resources and supplies will be in power and can control the market.
I think the country's economy will improve because of that, maybe it will affect other sectors but in that area they are superior.
If we apply your statements to the Russian war that it unleashed on the territory of Ukraine, then the owners of oil companies in Russia should now have large profits. But this is far from what happens in reality.

Firstly, international sanctions have been imposed on the Russian oil and gas industry, which limit both the volume of sales of oil and its refined products and the price at which they are sold. As a result, oil and gas production in Russia is declining.

Secondly, this war is entering its logical next stage, when dozens of Ukrainian drones periodically launch attacks on oil refineries and oil depots already on Russian territory. Because of this, the size of losses increases greatly. It is unlikely that Russia's war in this case will improve its economy. Rather, on the contrary, the war and the subsequent international isolation will set Russia back in economic development for many decades.

Oh, colonel, that's huge progress, you finally found courage to admit that AFU is bombing Russian civilian targets. They do attack, but what damage do they do? Are they able to reach and hit those targets?

Such attacks can't affect the outcome of this war. Ukraine keeps losing it's people, losing it's territory. Russia is winning.

And btw, some news regarding gas exports from the US:

Quote
Recent developments in the US show "Europe just traded one risk for another" through its increased reliance on the US for its LNG supply.

This latest development has given yet another reality check to Europe as US LNG constituted almost half of Europe's LNG imports in 2023.

"Gas addicted Europe trades one energy risk for another," said a recent headline in Bloomberg capturing the essence of the conundrum European policymakers face.

The debate assumes further importance because it concerns the energy security of European nations which now seem to be dependent on events and developments thousands of miles away. "It gives the US outsized geopolitical influence," according to that same Bloomberg article.

For consumers, it could mean another surge in energy costs as most of Europe's LNG supply is priced through the spot market, in contrast to Asian buyers who use long term contracts.

Source: https://www.euronews.com/business/2024/02/02/what-us-president-bidens-lng-freeze-might-mean-for-europe

What it actually means is that the US can stop LNG export any time for any reason they like (like strategic considerations or similar). Sorry guys, nothing personal, just business.  Grin Grin Grin

So it's Alexandrova v Ostapenko in the final in Linz. Ostapenko destroyed Paluychenkova earlier today 6:2, 6:3. Ostapenko has been terrific so far this year. She plays her beloved attacking style but the only difference: this season she manages to direct almost all shots into the court. Also very nice serve with lots of aces. She is definitely a favorite in this final.

Indeed thats one of Ostapenko's traits, her attacking style of Tennis but for me there
are two things which she needs to build on or improve, her accuracy and her emotions.
I have noticed from matches I've seen her play last year she had quite a bad attitude
when things were not going her way and I believe that has affected her negatively.

I recon if those two aspects of her play could be addressed she could get
back into the top 10 as a start and try get back to her ATH of 5th.

For todays final she is favourite at 1.56 and Alexandrova is 2.45.

According to some insider info from the tennis world, Ostapenko is not a very nice person on and off the court. 186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can bitcoin be stolen? on: February 04, 2024, 08:44:00 AM
We all know that bitcoin was earlier stolen by James "Jimmy" Zhong
James Zhong is an American man who was convicted in 2022 for stealing over 51,680 bitcoin (then worth about $620,000; value as of 2023 approximately $3.4 billion) from the online black market Silk Road between 2012 and 2014.He was also involved in the early development of bitcoin,he found an error on Silk Road that allowed him to withdraw more funds than what was initially deposited. This was activated by repeatedly double clicking the withdraw button, and further abused by using multiple accounts on the website. Zhong managed to conceal his identity and elude detection for nearly 10 years. He lived a luxurious lifestyle, using tools such as cryptocurrency mixers to obscure the origin of the bitcoin he spent. In 2019, he made a mistake by transferring a small amount of stolen bitcoin to a cryptocurrency exchange that followed know-your-customer rules. The IRS's criminal investigation division then tracked him down.
Source link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Zhong#

It turns out that Bitcoin stealers target not only big companies but individual users with modest amounts in their crypto wallets.

Now bitcoin is one of the safest way to invest digital currency. Because of its new and improved security system it makes it hard for hackers and thief to access

So now the question is bitcoin safe from hackers?, can it be stolen?

I can tell you that the guy you mentioned is not the only person who managed to steal Bitcoin. Not even close. I'm not even sure it was the biggest theft of all time.

Replying to your question, yes Bitcoin can be stolen, like any other form of money, property etc. You only have to rely on yourself, remain cautious and alert. Store your Bitcoin wallet the same way you would store your conventional wallet - keep it safe, try to avoid showing it in public etc and you'll be good.

188  Economy / Speculation / Re: Best time to buy BTC NOW? on: February 03, 2024, 04:20:39 PM
As you might know, the price of bitcoin reached its lower point since last month.

Should those who want to buy more do it now or do you believe we'll see the bitcoin price get down a little more?

Some here were talking about rumours of BTC being purchased from Saudi Arabia, but well, that's just a rumour.
But people tend to panic and sell, so this might be the best moment to buy as much btc as possible. What do you think?

I guess it's high time to buy now. Halving is near and the price is guaranteed to pump. Even if there will be a dump happening before then, it's going to be very short-lived. So yeah, buy now for your peace of mind before the halving fomo starts. Bull season is right around the corner.  Cool

Back over at Montpellier France and the Semi Finals are set for the weekend.

Its the top 4 seeds who line up against each other. Its a great result for the tournament
to have their tio seeds survive into the semi's.

Felix AA plays Bublik - Felix is favourite but I think I will back Bublik @ 2.50

Rune plays Coric - cant see odds on this but it will be hard to bet against Rune and TBH
he is looking good for an outright win. Felix and Bublik have struggled a bit this week.

Rune has a nice chance to win the title.

At WTA Linz, also semis day tomorrow:

Donna Vekic will take on Alexandrova, while Pavlyuchenkova will face in-form Ostapenko, who has dispatched Jodie Burrage in straight sets 6:1, 6:2 earlier today.

Interestingly as with the ATP semi's at Montpellier there are 3 top seeds in the Semi's at Linz,
Pavlyuchenkova being unseeded and Ostapenko sitting in the No.1 spot.

Looking at the odds it isnt clear cut who is looking like an outright winner, they are very similar.
Its really hard to make a bet on these.

Vekic 2.75 - 1.74 Alexandrova
Ostapenko 1.86 - 1.95 Pavlyuchenkova

Vekic and Alexandrova are putting on a show right now: each set took them more than an hour 7:5, 6:7, 6:5 atm. Crazy match, both ladies are showing some top-notch tennis and it's hard to tell who is going to win even now! Vekic looks like she's got a little more fuel left in her tank.

191  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is Bitcoin mining a profitable business? on: February 02, 2024, 03:33:58 PM
Introduction
In the ever-busy world of business, profits and losses are key components experienced by those in it. However, from a very tender age until this minute, I have not come across anyone who chooses to make losses. Certainly, everyone loves to make profits through any means possible.

In a case where I happen to be the only one that sells a particular brand within a region or state, it is expected of me to make profits. But if there are other competitors that sell the same brand as me within the same region, the tendency of making profits is likely not to happen due to the competition.

I tried to apply a similar scenario to Bitcoin mining. We all know that several miners around the world compete to solve a difficult mathematical problem, which aids the creation of a block. After the successful creation of a block, the miner is rewarded with some Bitcoin. Sadly, I can't tell the exact number of miners globally, but I think their population is enough to make the reward process very tough.

Questions
1. With the large population of miners around the world, could every miner earn a reward at least once a month?
2. If it's impossible for every miner to earn at least once a month, does that mean that mining is not a profitable business?

Note: I am asking these questions based on a miner's perspective, considering the cost of power supply consumed and the fixing/replacement of faulty mining machines.

Mining is no different from any other business. You should try to spend as little money as possible in running costs and earn as much as possible in rewards. Possibility of finding a block depends on your size, bigger operations have more chances. Another option is to join a mining pool if you can't afford a huge farm.
But all in all, you should try to find the best location, with lowest electricity prices, reasonable employee wages and taxes. Some powerful, efficient and modern hardware will also be helpful. And finally, like in any other business venture, you'll need some luck.
192  Economy / Economics / Re: USA Economic and power status will go lower new Country will take over on: February 02, 2024, 08:03:53 AM
Many of You Don't know this but france will take over to be world power force of military and Economic power house.

Last year france have secured their gold reserves most france have world biggest Economic reserves now.

Also france have established good diplomatic relationships all over the world.

The  Country wich has world biggest reserves and best diplomatic methods are the world leader.
Congratulation from me france is new world leader

The Putin will join with france very soon...  And Germany will be also france biggest allies.

Every world important decisions will go trhu france!
The Quebec state of canada will join the Forces with france.
The anglo saxon power is finished!!
The france will have so much power that Even China will have to respect france!

By the 2021  world biggest leader and military force will be france with best diplomatic methods.

Frankly, I don't see France becoming a global leader in foreseeable future. The only country which could do it in the next 20-50years is China. Yes, China is also plagued with problems nowadays, but which country isn't?

Actually France doesn't excel in any area at the moment: they have huge taxes, immigration issues, aging population, low military potential. Gold reserves and diplomacy won't help much, France needs some deeper reform before it can become a global leader.
193  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Less than 80 days until the 4th Ever #Bitcoin Halving on: February 02, 2024, 07:51:07 AM

Today I saw an interesting video by Joe Burnett [Head Analyst at Blockware Solutions], regarding upcoming Halving, you could stream it on Youtube

So the season of halving is here, speculations about Bitcoin halving are everywhere now. So now there is only one question in everyone's mind what the upcoming Bitcoin halving means!

you can say mining rewards are cut in half, new bitcoins are entering into the network in half, blah blah...

In simple words, we could say "Supply Reduction", the supply gets cut in half.

There is a historical chart of supply and demand that everyone knows
For exmpl, the oil supply to USA getting cut in half. Does the price go up or down?
A reduction in the supply of commodities, while demand remains constant or increases, typically leads to higher prices.

📌2012 Bitcoin Halving(1st):
Total new Bitcoins Supply will be: 5.2M+ BTC
    Price on Halving Day: $12.35
    New ATH: $12K+

Before 1st halving the new bitcoin supply was ~10M+, so miner had to sell that sum of BTC to cover their mining expenses and take a profit.
After the halving, the new bitcoin supply was ~5.2M+ BTC, so it is simple that miners will never sell that sum of BTC at the same price they sold before the halving. So a baby can understand price must have to go up to buy fresh BTC from miners. When selloff done BTC got its new ATH $12K+

📌2016 Bitcoin Halving(2nd):
Total new Bitcoins Supply will be: 2.6M+ BTC
    Price on Halving Day: $670
    New ATH: $19K+

In 2nd Halving, supply was reduced and miner had to sell a lower amount of BTC to cover their expenses and make profit, so automatically prices had to go up to make the system functional. After the selloff, BTC got its new ATH $19K+

Here supply was reduced by (~half) and the price increased to (~double)

📌2020 Bitcoin Halving(3rd):
Total new Bitcoins Supply will be: 1.3M+BTC
    Price on Halving Day: $8787
    New ATH: $60K+

Now come to Twenty Twenty halving, supply reduced by (~half), Demand increased (~3x)
Market got a new ATH of $60K+ because of the vast adoption of BTC and Institutional adoption.

📌2024 Bitcoin Halving(4th):
Total new Bitcoins Supply will be: 600K+ BTC
    Price on Halving Day: ??
    New ATH: ??

After the 4th halving miner will be able to generate only 600K+ fresh BTC to cover their expenses and fulfill their satisfaction. only 600K😲😲!! 17500x lower from the Genesis day!! So miners will never release their fresh BTC to anyone if he does not offer a handsome amount of $ $🢁

Source: bitget.com

The pool of marginal sellers are drying up day by day🌵,, Could you imagine where the price will go after the halving!!
Actually, I don't think we people understand how big it will be. Before, we always had selling pressure from miners, now we're going to have continued buying pressure.

It will be the historically biggest pump ever we have seen when the selling pressure from GBTC runs out.
However, this financial market is influenced by various factors, price movement is also complex. But the direction is constant, it's only 🚀🚀.
So, I wanna say if you guys were able to work out in which way the price of oil goes then you could make your fate...

What do you think will be the price on halving day?? Smiley

Very nice post, merited. You should always remind Bitcoin noobs about the effect of halving. Selling today (January-February) has no sense. Halving is one of the pillars of Bitcoin economy and one of the events which brings the price up. If you'd like to sell for some reason, please wait for at least March-April. The price normally starts to go up before the halving, so on a halving day it won't probably grow so much, but who knows. My guess is that we should approach the previous ATH area of $60-70k.
194  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: To what extent have you hated yourself due to your gambling losses? on: February 02, 2024, 07:30:33 AM
Let me start by asking a question that is not very much different from the topic..

In your entire gambling journey, have you ever had a series of losses to the extent you hated yourself so much for being so unlucky?

I was going through reddit in the early hours of today, and came across a user who lamented bitterly through his post, of how unlucky he has been in gambling in the past few weeks, like almost a month now, he said he bets minimum, twice every day, but have not won a dime for the past weeks, and this made him hate himself so much, I sincerely felt pity for him, for I remember one time I lost a huge sum of money to betting, I felt so bad that I thought of killing myself  Grin.

So, let's share our worst gambling experiences, have you ever hated yourself so much due to lack of winnings in gambling? To what extent, and how did it end?

Do you still hate yourself even now?  Grin

Lets discuss.

I've never hated myself after losing a bet simply because I gamble just for fun. Yes, losing is a part of gambling, so why should I hate myself for that?  Of course, you should never bet more than you can afford to lose.
195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the challenges people who accept bitcoin face in their businesses face on: February 01, 2024, 09:52:49 PM
I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I think I have to let the community know of this as I was shocked to see a local shop in community accepting bitcoin and upon closer look and questions, I got to find out that the owner of the shop just recently started accepting bitcoin and I had to also ask how profitable has bitcoin been to his business and he pointed out two things which.
1. That alot of people don't willingly want to pay make payment with bitcoin as a result of the high transaction fee
2. Security as alot of customers also shy away from making payment in bitcoin as they don't want to be identified as people who own bitcoin.
https://ibb.co/h76Fr9r

I've read some post about businesses accepting bitcoin and I want to know if they also face those challenges mentioned above and how do they face and solve these challenges as I think this initiative in my local community will also help to raise awareness about bitcoin and since I'm still new in the space, I would love to spread the news of bitcoin but I think it will be at the right time when I get the required knowledge.

High transaction fees are the main point. Many customers are willing to use shitcoins to pay for their orders. Even here on bitcointalk, many campaign managers were considering paying participants using USDT or Litecoin. How can you buy something for, say $10 if you have to pay the same amount or more in fees?  Shocked

Some promising-looking matches at WTA Linz event tomorrow:

Ostapenko v Tauson  Tauson is yet to find her best tennis after the injury. Ostapenko is back into top 10 and looking dangerous and hungry for winning.

Tauson needs a breakthrough now. She was predicted to have a very bright career, but she never got there. This may be because of his character. She lacks ambition and Ruusuvuori has a similar situation. If there is no ambition, there is no success, unfortunately. Maybe being born and raised in countries like Denmark and Finland doesn't give you the confidence to fight and a leader's perspective. Ostapenko has been through an intense period and may be tired. Tauson might be fresher in this match and the match could be a challenging performance from both players.

Tauson is leading 5:1 in the first set.

I don't think being born in a Nordic country is not much of a hindrance for tennis players. Just to remind you Bjorn Borg is Swedish, Rune is Danish, Ruud is Norwegian.

Disastrous campaign is US getting their ass kicked in Afghanistan.

Leaving a country is one thing, judging it as a defeat is another.
What has the US done to you?

US military forces withdrew from Afghanistan on August 31, 2021, ending NATO's Operations Freedom's Sentinel and Operation Resolute Support. The US and its allies invaded the country in 2001, following the September 11 attacks, resulting in the war becoming the longest armed conflict in US history. But the United States could not permanently keep its troops in Afghanistan. They helped create and train the Afghan armed forces and national police, and left them $85 billion worth of weapons. Among those left in Afghanistan were 200 planes and helicopters, as well as 600 thousand small arms. But the Americans could not fight for the Afghan national forces forever. And the fact that they offered very little resistance to the Taliban and quickly surrendered to them is not the fault of the United States.
https://m.gazeta.ru/army/2021/10/01/14042869.shtml

The United States and its allies have not yet transferred a single aircraft to Ukraine, several dozen tanks were transferred only recently, but the Ukrainians caused colossal military damage to the “second army of the world.”

Whoaa, colonel Bozo is back!  Grin

My little lying friend, I'll share some knowledge with you. Imagine, there's a website called Wikipedia. How cool is that? And there you can easily find a complete list of military aid provided to Ukraine by US and allies, exposing your lies:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_military_aid_to_Ukraine_during_the_Russo-Ukrainian_War

The US actually bought all Soviet-era arms which were available anywhere in the world (even from countries like Morocco). They simply don't exist anymore, everything was sent to Ukraine and destroyed there by the Russians. Just Poland alone provided more than 330 tanks!

BTW, why are you still here, colonel? It's time for you to share your knowledge with the young troops fighting in the east! Donbas is waiting, colonel!  Grin

~snip~
Ostapenko is the only top ten players competing in Linz, and this opens up her opportunity to win her second singles title this year after Adelaide, and my prediction is that Yastremska will be one of her strongest opponents if both make it to the final, but sometimes in the women's section, surprises often occur where the unseeded beat the seed and reaches the final, and one more match today which will be quite even is Siniakova vs Burel and it looks like Burel has a better chance of getting to the quarterfinals
If it is true that they will meet in the final then it will be difficult for Ostapenko to beat Yastremska and get the title, so far Ostapenko has played very well but Yastremska also looks more dominant in every match she plays.
This will be quite an interesting final match if only they will meet in the final, after all there are still several matches remaining which will provide surprises like in every previous competition.
If surprise happens, perhaps these two players will not be able to meet in the final and of course it is still too early to say that they will be able to reach the final.
We have to wait to see how their next match will play out so that we can really be sure whether their meeting in the final can happen as predicted.

It just that I have little dependence on Ostapenko that he will be able to win the title.

I don't think it is going to be that hard for Ostapenko to actually beat Yastremska. But it also involves the current form of the player. If she can continue to play well I don't see any reason she is going to have any problems. But the biggest thing is consistency. If she is not consistent she can be beaten by almost anyone.

The thing is there are a lot of matches remaining. So anything can happen in this tournament. You know that the other players are also capable so probably we should not predict anything with certainty already.

Consistency is the main issue with Ostapenko. Her extremely powerful, ATP level shots from the baseline are deadly but sometimes she just can't get them inside the court. That is the reason she plays a lot of 3 set matches. Other than that, she has improved her serve, also fitness is a bit better than previous years. She is a bit overweight, but still moves somewhat better than last year.

I am not sure about countries but I know that many persons and businesses prefer to use borrowed money because loans are cheap and many prefer loans to spending/investing their own money. I believe it's the same with countries. Instead of raising taxes, raising retirement age and other unpopular measures, why not just borrow some money if it's easily available?

Some promising-looking matches at WTA Linz event tomorrow:

Yastremska v Vekic  Yestremska is on fire after the most successful GS in her career so far.
Mertens v Bronzetti
Ostapenko v Tauson  Tauson is yet to find her best tennis after the injury. Ostapenko is back into top 10 and looking dangerous and hungry for winning.
Potapova v Cocciaretto

I highlighted the probable winner in bold.
