801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin can't be robbed on: June 24, 2023, 11:40:26 PM
About 3 years ago world bandit break into bitcoin Atm thinking they could get some coin from it. So funny they found nothing to go with. I'm very sure they were disappointed . Bitcoin is mysterious 😄

https://twitter.com/pete_rizzo_/status/1632724529595154433?t=vnCJCK16Pa6jKPrgXFP7pA&s=19

They obviously took the cash money from inside of the ATM after they cracked it open. The design of the ATM is not very successful btw it looks more like a tin can with thin metal and probably not too heavy too.  Grin
802  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic problem, why is fiat difficult to hold. on: June 24, 2023, 11:29:13 PM
Why is money at hand difficult to hold? I usually find it difficult to keep track of money anytime I have cash at hand, I make plans to hold money, but It never stays because something always demands the money, it is even so bad now that money kept in my account is also now being affected due to expenses. This is not something that happens to only me, I know that because of how money can easily be spent, many people now decide to avoid having cash, avoid taking ATM cards from their banks and also avoid activating USSD or internet banking, but is that really a long term solution? I blame myself a lot for spending so much and being irresponsible with money, but in your opinion, do you think that the soceity is contributing to the high and many expenses making money not to stay or is it just a bad habit I have?

To me it looks like there are several possible reasons and also solutions. Inflation and price rises is one of the reasons. You have to spend more on utilities, groceries, rent, insurance etc... Secondly, you're living beyond means obviously. You have to learn how to control your expenses or look for a better job (or some side hustles).
803  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lost coins redistribution on: June 24, 2023, 11:23:19 PM
I like the idea of only having 21 million bitcoins.
Bitcoins get lost all the time, lost private keys.
In time we will have fewer and fewer bitcoins, currently it is thought 3-4 million bitcoins are already lost. This makes me sad.

I propose a redistribution method:
>If an address did not have any activity in let's say the last 100 years the address is considered lost and the bitcoins are free to be mined in the next block.

To prevent losing your bitcoins you make sure to transfer them to a new address every 100 years (I am not aware of any other method of "proving" you still have access to an address).

P.S. This would be a change in the consensus mechanism, I know  Embarrassed
P.S.S. I am aware of Satoshi's view on this "lost coins are a donation to everyone". Yes, but 4 million is a lot, do we want Bitcoin to still be used 1000 years from now? If this trend continues most if not all bitcoins would have been lost by then.

I don't think it's necessary. Bitcoin is perfectly divisible: you can buy satoshis, or even smaller units can be introduced if needed. Lost coins contribute to the value of the remaining ones. Bitcoin ownership shouldn't be questioned. What if the person is dead but his family finds his/her laptop years later and the coins have already been "freed"? Will that be fair?
804  Economy / Economics / Re: How much longer until paper money is no longer in circulation? on: June 24, 2023, 11:19:06 PM
There are talks among the world's major central banks to begin the creation of their own digital currencies (Central Bank Digital Currencies for that matter). The launch of Bitcoin, and the widespread popularity of "De-Fi", has led governments to act fast before they're left behind the game. They know they can't beat Bitcoin, so they will try to be in-par with it by launching digital currencies of their own. The average person won't notice any difference with the new digital cash system, as everything would be the same as using a credit/debit card.

I'm beginning to question whenever CBDCs will be able to replace paper money for good, or will it co-exist with the old system? After all, credit/debit cards didn't manage to replace paper money when they launched. For being in the 21st century, I'd say paper money should be phased out as soon as possible. Everything should turn digital, as we live in a digital society.

How long do you think it will take for paper money to be phased out for good? Will CBDCs be able to replace not only paper money but also credit/debit cards? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley

Yes, I think paper money is going to be phased out at some point globally. In some countries, like Sweden most transactions are digital already now and paper money is quite rare. On the other hand, in countries like Germany or the US cash is still king, there still are many places where cards are not accepted.
805  Economy / Economics / Re: Landed properties is the best investment on: June 24, 2023, 11:14:45 PM
Half of the rich people keep continue to swim in fame and wealth because of their occupied landed properties. If you own a land, housing estate you can be sure living great but this wealth are mostly control by political leaders and BD individuals......if you're blessed enough begins to occupy property's that can sure your next generation... In my country Nigeria if you don't have any of this properties forget yourself, you will end up making life mortgage and tenancy. Land never depreciates it keeps buying higher that's why I considered it the best investment. What do you think?

Land is good investment most of the times. There are some exceptions like some overpriced areas where land price is already unreasonably high. Then it can go down eventually. You have to do your own research, search for some land plots in areas where it's likely to become more expensive over time. And, of course, you need lots of money for the initial investment.
806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We All Know, The halving time will be full of drama on: June 24, 2023, 11:09:21 PM
Yes, like the title above, we all know the halving time is will always full of drama, this always happens at that time, but I don't know why many people forget and still spread FUD everywhere. If they understand that and know it always happens on every 4 years, they shall be calm and relaxed to face SEC, Binance, or anything drama.

I hope this lesson gives you an important point. They create this to dump Bitcoin, they do this to scare you, they do this to buy Bitcoin at a cheap price, and After buying with a lot of money, you already know that today Bitcoin price is pumped like crazy, right?

So, I just want to say; Don't forget, The drama could happen again and repeat until the halving time. you must be strong and patient. you will definitely win if you face it with a quiet and strong hand if happen again in the near future.

Cheers

As an early adopter I don't think halvings and FUD are connected in any way. The "black swan" event normally happens months or even years before halving. Normally, the price right before or after halving has gone up significantly already. I think we have witnessed the lowest point this cycle already.
807  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are the Predictions of Bitcoin Halving accurate? on: June 24, 2023, 11:03:33 PM

So I recently came across this  Blockchair website, and saw that they had a Bitcoin halving countdown chart. It is actually able to predict the exact time and date of the next halving. I'm curious to know if any of you have used similar tool and if the predictions have proven to be correct. the Bitcoin halving usually happen every 4 years approximately after every 210,000 blocks has been successfully mined, the last which took place on May 11, 2020 and we are expecting the next halving to happen in 2024, but do we know the exact month, day and time? As Bitcoiners, It's very essential for us to have reliable sources for predicting and preparing for this event. so, are these predictions correct?

Well, judging by my experience from previous halvings these halving countdowns are not 100% correct. They do give an approximate idea on when halving is going to happen though. I think it's pretty safe to use to find out an approximate date.
808  Economy / Economics / Re: Let's get rid of all regulations, what can possibly go wrong on: June 24, 2023, 10:59:03 PM
If you have been reading the news lately, you would know the story about OceanGate submarine that failed and killed all people onboard. The cause of this tragic incident is that the creator of the submarine chose to ignore regulations. He believed that they are only in place to stifle innovation and that he knows better than the others and can't be wrong.

OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush said in 2021 he knew he'd 'broken some rules' by making the Titanic submersible out of carbon fiber and not pure metal: 'You're remembered for the rules you break'l

This should be a cautionary tale to people who dream about society without government and its regulations. Imagine if someone makes an "experimental and innovative" nuclear reactor that explodes and gives radiation sickness + cancer to hundreds of thousands. Or someone makes an "experimental and innovative" dam that collapses and floods houses. Invisible hand of the market won't be able to undo the damage or prevent it in the future from repeating again.

Well, I partly agree. Breaking rules if you're risking people's lives is obviously not ok. If Stockton Rush would use his submersible himself that would be fine. Space rockets, planes, submarines all were risky inventions. Satoshi Nakamoto and Bitcoin also broke some rules but he didn't hurt anyone. Bitcoin is revolutionary, it also ignores some regulations, so what? Ban Bitcoin?
809  Economy / Economics / Re: Does "our" world here still exist? on: June 24, 2023, 10:05:37 PM
English is not my native language, but I have a good command of the English language. I am writing what I think.

How to center myself in 2023

How times have changed! Or is it not that bad?

In the past, I used to be active on these types of forums. When I say "in the past," I mean between 2010-2019.

I sold VCCs (Virtual Credit Cards). I helped people with account verification. I sold all kinds of digital products, not just on Bitcoin forums but everywhere. Various interesting tasks that we all know on this forum. It was a nice extra income, and I was fully immersed in that world alongside my regular job. It always appealed to me because it was not illegal—a nice side hustle.

I stepped away from that world when I started following politics in 2019. A party came into the picture with a program that resonated with me. I was 39 years old at the time, and I started a YouTube channel as a rookie because I wanted to contribute to my home country. It felt like a calling to me. I really wanted to make a difference and not spend my whole life working for a boss when I could do something more.

I love my small Western European country where I was born. I was, and still am, someone who stands for Common Sense. Politically, I used to call myself "right-wing conservative." Nowadays, I see things completely differently. I believe that when you join a political party or label yourself with a political ideology, you register yourself for something with a set of rules and norms. Because if you are right-wing conservative, you absolutely cannot have progressive ideas, right? So, by definition, you are not being yourself because you conform to the rules of that political ideology.

Anyway, I started a YouTube channel, and I noticed that many people felt the same way I did. Some people joined me, and I ended up in a completely different world.
We were labeled as "conspiracy theorists" when we asked questions about uncontrolled mass immigration in Western Europe. It just didn't make sense. Why would you let a continent be flooded with people from all corners of the world without control? I am certainly in favor of a good immigration policy. People who genuinely need help should be assisted. That's only logical for us wealthy countries to do. At the very least. But it should be for those who truly need it, not opportunistic seekers. Create a good policy, ensure quality assistance for those in need, and as a sovereign country, we expect you to contribute something here. Actually, we don't expect anything from you. We just want to make sure you are a good person. Color, race, and origin should not matter.

But even discussing something like this was immediately dismissed as racism. That didn't make sense to me.

For me, an adventure began, and I started the YouTube channel and, six months later, an alternative news and opinion website. Then came Corona. For me, it is still a created phenomenon intended to harm humanity. I earned income through my YouTube Partnership. The channel grew to over 35k subscribers, which was considered a reasonable voice for our country at the time. My YouTube channel was censored in October. Any criticism of Corona and the, back then, upcoming vaccines was not tolerated. You were literally kicked out if you went against the mainstream narrative.

You see it all happening with your own eyes, and it is designed in such a way that those of us who see it happen are called conspiracy theorists. Of course, there are wild stories and numerous conspiracy theories surrounding Corona that go too far. But hey, allowing ourselves to be injected for what exactly?

The numbers globally showed that the average age of death from Corona was 82 years, and over 90% had underlying serious health conditions. From day one, you could easily calculate that there wasn't much to worry about here, and you had to dig deeper to see that you were being fooled. And even if there is "something" going on, it's not as they want to present it to us. They want that shot in our arms. And we questioned that. And others did too. And that was not allowed. You were simply silenced. As if you don't exist. "Shut up!" But they couldn't censor the website, so we continued, and the website is still there.

Bizarre years. And suddenly, you get a slap in the face and realize that you also participated in this whole hype. An eye-opener.

Now I'm coming back to look into my "old world." With all the developments like AI, Corona, the almost non-existent privacy, is that old world still there?
Can you still do the same things as before, just as a free individual?

I feel very.... confused. Does this makes sense to some of you?

Interesting "stream of consciousness" type of post but I fail to see any reason behind it... why exactly you're sharing this with forum users? Looking for some followers or like-minded people? Looking for sympathy? You seem to be confused?
810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Halving and Blackrock on: June 24, 2023, 08:31:10 PM
1. Is it correct to assume that each halving will result in a 50% reduction in rewards?
( If current reward is .0003 BTC, reward after halving will be .00015 ) ?

2. Is there a good calculator for ROI and estimated rewards ( per day ) that calculates 5-10 years in the future or allows an input for estimated future value of BTC ?

3. Will BlackRock and the central bankers be able to fork BTC into a proof of stake coin? ( How are changes to BTC created ?)

Thanks,
Ron

1. Yes, each halving results in miner reward being cut in half.
2. No, it's impossible to calculate ROI (you mean ROI for mining right?).
3. I guess it's possible if they will acquire at least 51% of all Bitcoin hashing power.
811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1.7 billion people are still Unbanked; chances for bitcoin on: June 24, 2023, 08:13:21 PM
According to world bank 1.7 billion people ranging from 200 million in China and India each, 100 million range in Pakistan and Indonesia, 45 to 65 million range in Mexico, Bangladesh, Nigeria etc. This shows that a lot of rural environments have no bank. Real estate, renting a building, is one strong marketing technique used by banks to garner customers in a place. And these stats proves that banks can't reach out to all rural environment. Bitcoin on the other hand, requires only a smart phone and internet connection  to send and receive bitcoin anywhere in the world; no buildings needed. It also opens a portal for users in high corrupt countries, 68.9% of 180 countries, to keep their funds safe. In Sudan for instance, Government once forced into people's houses to seize and destroy their treasures.

Hence with 1.7 billion people staying unbanked, added to the increase of people who don't rely on banks, Bitcoin provides them with numerous options why they should use bitcoin for different purposes like sending money to relatives in different countries at a very low fee.

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/370892944_Bitcoin_Is_Full_of_Surprises

Of course it's a huge possibility for Bitcoin but I fear things are more complicated than bank buildings. First, Bitcoin should be accepted as legal tender and companies start paying their employees in Bitcoin. Bitcoin should also be accepted pretty much everywhere too. Otherwise, I doubt this is going to work.
812  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: June 24, 2023, 07:36:41 PM
In the Halle Open, Rublev winning against Bautista is much expected. Same as that Rublev won the match in direct sets 6-3 6-4.
Match between Zverev and Bublik was in favour of Bublik from the beginning and he won it in direct sets 6-3 7-5. The finals going to be close fight, however it looks like Rublev have advantage. Bublik will never let it go out of his hands, because this is the first time in 2023 he had reached the finals.

So the finals are set:

ATP Halle Bublik v Rublev
ATP London De Minaur v Alcaraz (De Minaur defeated Rune in straight sets 6:3 7:6 while Alcaraz won his semi-final versus Korda 6:3 6:4)

Some surprising results from the qualis:

ATP Eastbourne Cerundolo lost to Mansouri 4:6, 4:6
ATP Mallorca Verdasco lost to Kotov 1:6, 6:7, Vesely lost to Harris in 3 sets.

But the biggest surprise was Zverev's defeat in semi-final of Halle of course. Proves Sascha is still not ready for the top level action yet.

813  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: June 22, 2023, 10:51:16 PM
- Armored Personnel Carrier BTR-4. Used along all front lines. During the defense of Mariupol, the city defenders destroyed both terrorist manpower as well as tanks and BMPs using the BTR-4.

Ukraine was trying to sell these to Iraq, but only managed to produce and send to the buyer 100 vehicles out of 420. The Iraqi military were not very happy with the APCs they received, claiming that the vehicles they received were "very old, rusty and generally unusable". 42 units were returned to Ukraine as they had cracked hulls!!!  Grin  Out of another batch of 88 APCs the Iraqis managed to start only 56 vehicles and only 34 were able to move. I really hope the Ukrainian military uses as few of these as possible as it's not safe to drive a rusty cracked APC along the frontlines.  Grin

All in all, all of these mentioned arms are very rare. We get to hear names like Bayraktar, HIMARS, Leopard etc all the time but none of these Ukrainian arms.
814  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: It's Bitcoin trust worthy on: June 22, 2023, 09:48:18 PM
It's Bitcoin trust worthy for investment? Cus have tried many platform but all failed and this my last hope... I was introduced into it.

I swear Bitcoin can be trusted more than the bank you keep your money in. More than any currency of any country in the world. You are very lucky you were introduced to Bitcoin now, you are still early. Btw, what were your previous unfortunate investments?
815  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: June 22, 2023, 01:42:27 PM
Zverev breezed past Shapovalov 6:2, 6:4. Does it mean Sascha is regaining form or just Shapovalov was that bad? His results this season are abysmal so far. Sinner had a tough encounter with Sonego, barely making it in 3 hours time 6:7, 6:4, 6:4.

Bublik v Struff under way now 2:2 no breaks so far.

WTA Berlin Sabalenka v Koudermetova, the Russian was ahead 4:0 in the first set with 2 breaks.

Matches to watch out for:

Rublev v Hanfmann Easy win predicted for a Russian against a German wildcard.
Griekspoor v Hurkacz  Same here, easy bet on an in-form Pole.
816  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Portal launches demo for atomic swaps for ordinal inscriptions on: June 22, 2023, 01:05:04 PM
Hi, guys!

I've been aware of Portal for about 2 years now: they're building a way to do cross-chain atomic swaps on layer 2s to increase liquidity on the Lightning network and also build a trustless way to do decentralized exchanges. But more recently, they've slightly shifted focus to also include ordinal inscriptions on Bitcoin's base layer. Basically, you can buy ordinals using the Lightning network (which automatically includes holders of USDT, WBTC or ETH on other chains).

In the near future, I can see this as being a user-friendly way to build digital collectible markets on Bitcoin. Something like OpenSea, but much more elegant in its design and denominated in BTC.

I thought it was an interesting concept, so I wrote an article about it. Hope some of you will find it useful 🫡

https://bitcoin-takeover.com/portal-presents-ordinal-atomic-swap-tech-demo/

I'm not against ordinals per se but I don't like the effect they're causing on the Bitcoin network. If you'll find a way to migrate them completely to LN and stay there, that would be great!
817  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hold Bitcoin VS Hold Gold on: June 21, 2023, 08:31:47 PM
In this topic I will tell you about two camps; people who like Bitcoin and people who like Gold. So, Hold Bitcoin or Hold Gold ?. We will see from several aspects; Historical, Creator, Supply, Environmental Issue, and Monetary Function.

Between Gold and Bitcoin BTC

First, let's look at the historical side. Of course, Gold's history is much longer than Bitcoin's. Gold has existed since this world was created. Even thousands of years ago. Gold has been used as money and a medium of exchange since 550 BC in Lydia. While Bitcoin has only existed since January 2009. So Bitcoin historical data is not as far and long as gold.

The second, we see from side of the creator. The creator of Gold is the universe, and the scientists believe gold came from meteorites that rained down on the earth 200 million years after the earth was formed. While Bitcoin was created by Satoshi Nakamoto , we still don't know who this Satoshi Nakamoto really is. He could be very smart person, It could be an institution, it could be a community group, or even it could be a creation of AI or Artificial Intelligence (My wild thought). We never know who Satoshi Nakamoto is. Bitcoins are man made, it's man-made. But Bitcoins cannot be re-created or increased in number (The Supply).

The third we will compare the amount of supply. Exactly how much is the maximum amount of gold supply?. We don't know, It could be suddenly find so many new gold sources that can be mined, so when there is additional supply, the assets will no longer be rare and worthless, so in the end the price goes down. While Bitcoin, the maximum supply is only 21 million coins and cannot be added again forever, This is what makes Bitcoin become so rare.

The fourth is environmental issue. Well, environmental issues are becoming an important issue in the 21st century. Many parties (included some companies or firms) are vying to reduce their carbon footprint. For example, China has a carbon-free target by 2060. Mining gold from deep within the earth has a tremendous impact on the environment. And this is irreversible damage, while Bitcoin when compared to gold is more environmentally friendly, Because Bitcoin can be mined using renewable energy or cheaper energy. Bitcoin mining does not permanently damage the environment. In fact, there is no damage at all to Bitcoin mining activities. Because it happens on a computer network.

Fifth, let's look at the monetary function. Even though gold is real money, money from the universe. And it was once considered money. But in the 21st century, gold has no monetary function. In the 21st century, gold is impractical, not portable ( as I said before in my last topic in Bitcoin Discussion) , and instead of making transactions easier, if we use gold , it makes transactions in this digital era more difficult. Wealth in the form of gold is not easy to move, especially across countries, during disasters, or wars. While Bitcoin makes transactions easier, because it can be done quickly through the Lightning Network, it can even cross countries. Bitcoin is also easily broken down to 1 satoshi, 1 satoshi is 0.000000001 Bitcoin, Zero by zero eight times behind. Bitcoins are also portable, Very easy to carry everywhere, because it's digital, can be accessed anywhere, the important thing is that we know our phrase. The price (value) of Bitcoin everywhere must be the same around the world, and as I said, the number of Bitcoins is limited, while the maximum amount of Gold supply is still unknown. Then about the risk, If this risk context is financial value, Gold is definitely very safe, Because the price is more stable and less volatile, but that doesn't mean there's no risk in saving gold, The risk of storing Gold is that the first is a thief, Yup, gold is very easy to steal. Why in ancient times did many kingdoms attack each other? Of course they were looking for gold. For example, in 215 BC, Rome stole gold from Macedonia, or after the Nazi fell, the gold was divided equally between America, Britain and France. Hmm, isn't it kind of theft too?. Gold storage is also difficult, to store large amounts of gold, you need a special place, tight security, and other thing, it's hard to move Gold in large quantities. Bitcoin is here as a solution to all of that. Bitcoins cannot be stolen. The Bitcoin network also can't be hacked.

Well, I think that’s all information about Hold Bitcoin VS Hold Gold. I really want to give you more informations, But I think it will be boring if the thread become so long to read, So I stopped, but also I think it’s a good way too for opening a discussion. I hope this thread could be a good discussion to expand our information and knowledge (well, inspite of there are people also said that News isn’t a Knowledge, I dont agree with that).

I also have a long answer of these questions :
 - Why Bitcoin can't be hacked?
 - So when is the right time to buy Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is the new gold. That's why gold bugs are mostly older people, in contrast with Bitcoin, which is mostly being held by the younger investors. Gold, silver and other precious metals' prices are very stable, doesn't fluctuate a lot, by far not so volatile as Bitcoin, therefore less opportunity for huge growth and gains. Just my 2c.

Alcaraz v Rinderknech was a very entertaining match today. Alcaraz lost the first set 4:6 but then managed to win 7:5 and finally won the deciding set on a tie-break 7:6. The Frenchman was using his nice and powerful serve a lot, he also played serve and volley and lots of net play in general. This tactics was genius and Alcaraz mostly couldn't come up with any successful response. In the tie-breaker, Alcaraz proved he's world's #2 for a reason getting into the lead 6:1 and eventually winning 7:3.

Meanhile in Birmingham, 43yo(!!!) Venus Williams won her first round match against Camilla Giorgi. It's unbelievable how Venus can be competitive at this age! I've heard somewhere it's her first 1st round win in 2 years time! Impressive. Cool Unfortunately, there was a nasty incident during the match, when Venus fell down and Giorgi yelled "come on".  Shocked

berrettini retired from Queen's Club Championship! The former winner of Wimbledon has not been able to play this tournament.

He never won Wimbledon - he lost in the final against Đoković.

You are right, I made a mistake while writing my post - finalisti and not winner (and at least for Italians he has won Wimbledon Roll Eyes ).

Of course Djokovic Is absolutely a favorite in this tournament but I will always take a look in younger player or some outsider. I Will not surprised if there Is a surprise this year Wink but lets see, It would for sure a great show as usually

Exactly, let's not forget Nole is 36yo and at that age anything can happen during the 2 weeks of GS. I guess he has some special training schedule before and during the Slams so he doesn't get injured but anyway. The risk at this age is too high - one awkward move and you pull a muscle and bye Wimbledon title. I'm not saying it can't happen to anyone else but the age is just amplifying this issue. Let's wait and see how it goes, we also need to know the draw.

Tallon Griekspoor track has caused quite a surprise with his victory at the tournament in Rosmalen. in the final he was also placed higher than his opponent Thompson, but he showed a good level there too. It is strange that last year a Dutchman also managed to win this tournament. Tim van Rijthoven won Rosmalen, then reached the eighth or quarterfinals at Wimbledon, but managed to win a set against Djokovic. After that we never heard from van Rijthoven again. In that respect, it is a lot more stable with the Greek track, who immediately enters the top 30 in the world thanks to his victory. A great year for him.

Tiafoe won the Stuttgart title, defeating Struff in three sets: 4:6, 7:6, 7:6(10:8 ) . Struff gave his all but it was not enough.
