ATP Umag starts today, it's a small 250 series but it's close to where I live so I attend every year.

Last year we had Sinner and Alcaraz in the semis and the final which was great to see live, this year the lineup is a lot weaker - especially after Rune withdrew.
The first 2 seeds are Lehecka and Sonego - which is quite terrible Grin

I do hope to see Čilić and Wawrinka live - but for that they'd have to reach the semis.

Well, you shouldn't feel disappointed, both Lehecka and Sonego are solid players, very high level, I'd love to see them in action.

Wow, I thought Cilic has retired a while ago, at least he hasn't played for quite some time.

-----

You forgot to mention that:

1. Russia left the grain deal because of the Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian military ships safeguarding shipping routes.
2. Russia stated no attacks will be performed on the civilian vessels, they won't be sunk or shot at, but merely intercepted and taken to the port of Sevastopol.

Other than that your info is precise.  Grin
In fact, the only and greatest danger to the "grain" corridor is precisely the Russian ships of the Black Sea Fleet. Until the time when Russia attacked Ukraine and began to block its seaports with its fleet, there was no danger to civilian shipping. Russia almost every day shells the entire territory of Ukraine with all its might of the Black Sea Fleet and at the same time wants its warships not to be subjected to retaliatory attacks from Ukraine? It is somehow naive and stupid to hope for it.
So you're trying to say that Ukraine was not aware of this before they signed the deal? When you sign the deal you have to follow the rules and conditions of the deal. Otherwise there is no point of signing it at all. Don't you think so?

Quote from: Argoo
At first, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that they would sink all ships heading towards Ukrainian ports, and only after some time, fearing that they could be accused of piracy, they made the clarification you mentioned above.
Could you provide the source? Without a source, it's just an unsupported claim, sorry.
723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to value bitcoin bitmap ordinals and what do you think about them? on: July 23, 2023, 09:52:56 PM
You realize that 52% of the crypto market are those ICO coins right? Ethereum was ICO too, there is plenty of value there. You have your mind stuck in 2009/2010? Open your mind, even tho ordinals seems to be a stupid concept, finally the market decides what has value or not, you sho uldn’t be that arrogant to call everything except bitcoin a zero value thing.

Even tho bitmaps aren’t unique (you can mint the same text over and over again), but the market organized itself to count only the first mints as the valid ones, floor price of bitmaps went up more than 500% in the past weeks. Obviously there is value here even tho it looks technically stupid.

You look like those old men that don’t tolerate young kids with smartphones, just because in their time they used playing with rocks or something. Actually smartphones are the greatest invention of all time, you have access to all the knowledge in the world whenever you want and immediately.

Perhaps in the future when the metaverse becomes a real thing, those who were getting bitmaps at this time will the super rich of the future, same as those who bought bitcoin/ethereum years ago, who knows

What are your sources? I refuse to believe 52% of crypto users are retarded.  Grin

This is some 100% BS ordinals shilling. Are you being paid to shill? Or did you invest and now hoping to sell the monkey pics with profit? Poor attempt.

Source: https://coinmarketcap.com/charts/

If you scroll to the right on the top on coinmarketcap.com you see Dominance: BTC: 48.5% ETH: 18.8%

Yes I can see that, that's market dominance. What does it have to do with your quote (I marked above in bold) regarding ICO coins occupying 52% of the entire crypto market? Perhaps you can just admit you were lying and trying to make things up to shill your useless ordinals crap?  Cool
724  Economy / Economics / Re: Europe have one big problem the euro currency on: July 23, 2023, 09:45:08 PM
All those explanation, you forgot about tourist. European countries have always attracted millions or even billion tourist every year. Outside of Tech and Car stuff, tourism is one of the biggest export of European Countries. And those tourist will exchange their currency into Euro.
Other thing is that you might have valid point that Euro only sell for a luxury stuff, Sports Car, Designer Clothing, etc. But like it or not rich people will still buy those luxurious goods.

Regarding tourists, haven't you heard about the latest trend: many European cities are tired of tourists and are actually trying to get rid of them. Cities like Amsterdam and Venice are taking action to stop tourism. They are closing the cruise ship terminals, restricting river cruises, converting hotels into offices, imposing earlier closing times for clubs and pubs etc etc. IMO, this is the road to self-destruction. Stopping mass tourism is a really bad idea for the reasons you mentioned above.

Meanwhile back on the clay courts...

Semi finals in Bastaad Sweden sees Ruud on his favoured surface face up to Musetti
a close match this but Ruud is favourite.
Cerúndolo faces Rublev, another close one but Rublev should win that, interestingly all top
4 seeded players have made it to the semis, Ruud being #1.

Over at Gstaad Switzerland its Ramos-Vinolas v Kecmanović who is second seed and my
favoured one for this this semi.
Second semi is Cachin v Medjedovic but no idea how to pick a winner eventhough Cachin
is favourite.

The final today at Bastaad is as expected between Ruud and Rublev. Ruud despatched
Musetti in 2 sets while Rublev took the 3 sets to take the win. I'm going with Ruud to win today.

Over at Gstaad its a Cachin v Ramos-Vinolas final, both won their semi finals in 2 handy
sets, No clue about todays winner, Cachin is slight favourite but Ramos-Vinolas is
a good bet @ 2.25 I think.

Rublev swept Ruud off the court easily (relatively) 7:6, 6:0. The Norwegian was only resisting Andrei's big forehand in the first set. In the second, Rublev turned GOD MODE on with super hard and precise shots mostly down the line demolished Ruud. This and also the slippery court after the rain made the Norwegian surrender. Well deserved win for the Russian! Congrats to Rublev!

Hamburg set to start tomorrow, some big names on the list: Zverev, Ruud, Rublev, Musetti, Cerundolo.
726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: lost access to my bitcoin wallet... on: July 23, 2023, 08:22:12 AM
so a few years back i had a few bitcoin on a hard drive but today i tried to access the harddrive and i ended up spilling a glass full of water all over it and now it wont boot up.

what are my options?

It's amusing how many people are losing their BTC by spilling water, losing gadgets, ruining hardware, forgetting passwords etc. It's all judging by these forum threads. I suspect most of them are made up to pump up post count and maybe even earn some merits. It just looks really suspicious the guy spilled water on his hdd (or pc not really clear from the OPs post) on THE VERY SAME DAY he decided to check on his stash? I mean cmon...  Grin

It is very difficult for me to understand what will happen if an accident occurs on the power line and the house is left without heat in the winter. I had to use the fireplace for heating several times because the repairs took a long time. Gas heating does not work without electricity, the pump needs electricity.

You can always use a UPS it will also protect your gas heater from power surges. A decent UPS should give you a couple of hours in heater runtime because modern heaters don't draw lots of power only some 50-60w I guess.
728  Economy / Economics / Re: Food security in the world has been shaken by Russia's actions on: July 22, 2023, 09:42:22 PM
On July 17, 2023, Russia withdrew from the “grain agreement” and officially notified Turkey and Ukraine, as well as the UN secretariat, of its objection to the extension of the “grain deal” for the export of grain and other agricultural products from Ukrainian ports to the world market.

In connection with the termination of the Black Sea Initiative and the curtailment of the maritime humanitarian corridor, from 00:00 Moscow time on July 20, 2023, all ships en route to Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea will be considered as potential carriers of military cargo. Accordingly, the flag countries of such vessels will be considered involved in the Ukrainian conflict on the side of the Kyiv regime, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Thus, Russia stated that it intends to sink any civilian ships that will be sent to the Black Sea ports of Ukraine. This will greatly complicate the delivery of agricultural products to many poor regions of the world. Due to Russia's sabotage of the "grain corridor" in recent months, the world has not received an additional 25 million tons of agricultural products from Ukraine. In total, 1,002 vessels left Ukrainian ports during the year of this agreement. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, since the start of the “grain agreement”, more than 33 million tons of products of Ukrainian farmers have been exported to 45 countries of the world.

It is worth noting that after withdrawing from the grain deal, Russia has been attacking Ukrainian ports with missiles and drones for the third night in a row, trying to hit terminals with Ukrainian grain. So, on July 19, 60,000 tons of grain were destroyed in the terminal of the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk, which was planned to be delivered to the world market two months ago.

With its piracy, Russia is blackmailing the whole world, trying to partially lift sanctions for its military invasion of Ukraine and jeopardizing food security in the world, thereby increasing the threat of hunger in many poor countries of the world.

Hello,

I met someone on internet who suggested that I invest in a crypto trading platform that I didn't know about. I did it step by step and made sure that it was possible to transfer the funds back to binance at any time. So I increased the volume and today customer service is asking me to pay 10% of my capital as a fee. What's more, they've told me that I can't pay this fee with the funds available on the platform, but that I have to pay it with funds from another portfolio. If I don't do this, I won't be able to recover my funds on this platform.

The name of the platform is Hitcoin. Here is the message sent by customer service:

Hello, after the Global Banking Regulatory Commission audits your HITCOIN account, according to the standards of the Turkish Tax Authority, investors need to pay 10% tax to the market exchange and the Global Banking Regulatory Commission. Calculate the tax you need to pay based on your profit in the HITCOIN market, -----*10%=---- The tax you need to pay is $----

Pursuant to Rule 21(2) of the Treaty Rules of the Global Banking Regulatory Commission. For tax purposes, all secondary market investors must deposit taxable funds in the secondary market through an external wallet. Taxes cannot be deducted from the account, and you can withdraw all funds in the account after completing the tax payment

Do you think this is a scam or can I pay safely?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Sorry to say that but I guess your investment is gone. Hitcoin website doesn't seem to work anymore as well. Don't even think about sending these scammers anything.

Just wondering how were you able to check that? Did you actually withdraw the funds?

Really entertaining match I watched yesterday: Hopman Cup Belgium v Spain (Alcaraz v Goffin). Goffin was up a set (6:4) and leading 2:0 in the second. Yet Alcaraz managed to come back and win the second set 6:4 and then match tiebreak! Goffin was really close to winning and that would have been a shocking result!

At WTA Palermo, interesting match between tournament 1st seed Kasatkina and home star Paolini. Paolini defeated the Russian in three sets 6:4, 4:6, 6:3 and has good chances of winning the title. At the other WTA 250 tournament this week in Hungary there are no big names playing. Ladies are chilling after Wimbledon.  Cool
732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People Are Not Nerdy Enough on: July 19, 2023, 11:48:58 PM
Yes, I am complaining that people are not nerdy enough. It's been 14 years since Satoshi published his white paper and the vast majority of people still don't understand what Bitcoin is and how to use it. Sure there are many people buying Bitcoin on crypto exchanges and speculating on it.

However, the average guy on the street that I speak to, and even many people on crypto forums still don't understand Bitcoin's potential as a virtual commodity, or it's potential to create an alternative to Fiat economies. Maybe the problem is deeper than just a lack of understanding about the technology? Maybe it's a lack of understanding about economics as a whole? How many people are economists?

I understand that my frustration might be due to the fact that I am coming from a very privileged position. What are your thoughts on this?

I guess that lots of people know about Bitcoin and even how it works, they just pretend they don't either because they're afraid of the $5 wrench attack or something else. After the notorious hardware wallet leaks, I checked the leaked dbs just out of curiosity and there were lots of people I know, including those who mentioned they had no idea about Bitcoin or even were openly anti-Bitcoin.
733  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: July 19, 2023, 11:26:22 PM
I agree with you.
Djokovic is physically and mentally still at the highest level and I think he can play tennis at that top level for at least 2 more seasons.
Alcatraz is currently the biggest challenge for Djokovic, but he is still a young player and I believe that he will have oscillations in his game and results.
Alcatraz could be the heir to the "big three" of world tennis, Federer, Nadal and Djokovic if he continue to play at this level, but I am sure that Djokovic has not said his last word in tennis and that he has the capacity to win a few more GS tournaments.
When Nadal returns from injury next year, I'm sure we're in for a very exciting tennis year  Grin

As long as Novak Djokovic is playing he will have two face Alcaraz as his biggest opponent in my opinion. I think Novak Djokovic is a good player who has the world of experience and he will find a way to overcome this difficult challenge. I also know that Djokovic knows that as well.

Alcatraz is obviously going to be someone who will stick around for a very long time. So he is obviously going to be able to see the next generation of players. I don’t think he is too much worried at this point. He has his whole career ahead of him.

Djokovic lost the last title but i think he might comeback even stronger for US Open and win that title. Once Djokovic retires i think we see a clear domination from Alcaraz in the tennis world. Currently no one is even close to stopping Alcaraz except Djokovic. Hopefully someone new shows up soon.

Stopping Djokovic on grass in Wimbledon this year means a lot. This wasn't just a win by a better Alcaraz in a Grand Slam final. This was a win that the world was watching because if Djokovic took this one as well, who would have still seen his career come to an end anytime soon? It's different now. It is similar to Serena Williams when she won all those Grand Slams and out of a sudden she was stuck and couldn't win anymore. She had problems on any surface and this is why this win on grass for Alcaraz was huge. He has beaten a Djokovic who played his best possible, not some average tennis at an unimportant event.

We might all be looking forward to Alcaraz breaking some records. There is no three players like Federer, Nadal and Djokovic who have essentially won all the Grand Slam titles for decades. It is only Alcaraz. What if he remains more or less uncontested for the next 15 years?

Well, Nole is arguably even more dangerous on hard. So he will be one of potential winners in New York.

I don't think Alcaraz will be dominating ATP alone. I believe some serious contenders will appear sooner rather than later (just like Rafa showed up when Roger was dominating for several years already).
734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't expect everyone to embrace Bitcoin on: July 19, 2023, 11:15:53 PM
The earlier we understand that bitcoin is not for everyone, the better because it saves us the time and energy that we would have used to convince those who are uninterested, to move on to those who are interested and it can also drive adoption faster. I've read some threads here of some people trying to convince their family members on the positives of Bitcoin and get enraged if the said members don't share the same opinion as them but I feel everyone is entitled to his opinion and while some regard Bitcoin with outright disgust like Charlie Munger, there are some who care less of it's existence.

Bitcoiners have the opportunity to stand for something and that's eliminating the need for central authorities such as the government and banks and rather than forcing everyone to confirm to their beliefs, it's better to find an audience worth serving. What's your take, guys?

I believe this is the correct approach. People who can't see Bitcoin's power don't deserve it. So you shouldn't lose time to try to enlighten them but just buy some extra Bitcoin instead and hodl it Cool

The cheap electricity of Irkutsk allows competitive rates = 5.5 ruble/Kw or 0.062 usd/Kw

That looks too expensive for Russia, does this price include the hosting fee? Before the war started $0.10/kw was pretty common for many EU countries and in some places in the US. In places like Kazakhstan electricity can be as low as $0.01/kw even now.

AI, Robotics ETFs Are More Popular Than Crypto in 2023 - Bloomberg

ETFs tracking robotics and AI have pulled in roughly $105 million in March, while other thematic strategies like clean energy, electric cars and cloud computing all saw outflows, according to data compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence. ETF Investors Flock to Artificial Intelligence Robotics and AI-themed funds are beginning to pull in money
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-04-03/ai-and-robotics-etfs-are-more-popular-than-crypto-in-2023

Looks like investors looking for new technology trends are now focusing more on AI than in crypto currencies.

Although I do think both technologies can benefit each other mutually (like Fetch token and others), AI use cases looks much more wider to me.

Still looking for good ETF or funds to expose my portfolio to AI

Well, you can really compare crypto and AI. They are two completely different technologies and are not connected in any way. You can't compare let's say credit cards and internet. Both technologies were innovative and big for the time but still they can't be compared. People interested in AI can be the same people hodling crypto. I see no threats for Bitcoin in this new trend.
737  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Possible hardware backdoors on: July 19, 2023, 10:18:21 PM
Hi all!

I've recently seen a video where a hacker holds a conversation about possible hardware backdoors in some pcs and other devices, mainly in the processor but also in more parts. Those backdoors would come with an OS preinstalled that could spy you.

My question is: if that is the case, how secure would be a wallet that you generate in those devices?

Would an electrum wallet that you generate with Tails OS and completely offline be safe?

thx!

No wallet or OS is completely safe. Any wallet and pc can be compromised. Regarding the hardware backdoors, I totally believe they exist (we're livin g in the age of surveillance) but the question is if the manufacturers want your Bitcoin or something else?
738  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which cryptocurrency comes close to bitcoin? on: July 19, 2023, 08:34:12 PM
I just want to find a secure and decentralized alternative to bitcoin

Which blockchain could become just as decentralized as Bitcoin?
Where could I store my assets in an emergency if there are no more bitcoins?

But why? You won't be able to find anything similar to Bitcoin. No shitcoin can compare to King Daddy. All other cryptocurrencies were created to imitate Bitcoin and/or make their creators rich eventually. So it's impossible to find a secure alternative, it's only a matter of time when the rug will be pulled.

As long as Novak Djokovic is playing he will have two face Alcaraz as his biggest opponent in my opinion....

I personally have my doubts about it and it's also the reason why I bet alcaraz during the first set at Wimbledon final in which he was losing...
Djokovic is a player "of a certain age". He is now at the end of his sporting career cycle.
How many time will be able to fight at this level? I don't think more than a couple of years.... Roll Eyes
Like Nadal. He is a strong player, but due injury and so on he is clearly out of games since a while...

Yeah, I believe 38 is maximum age you can be competitive at this level. Diet, yoga and similar stuff can't save your body from aging. Neither can doctors. Roger's dad owns a sports clinic in Switzerland and he wasn't able to deal with Roger's knee issues. Same story with Andy Murray and later Nadal. Tennis is a very demanding sport, you body simply wears out.
