Don't be a cheapass. Just pay a higher fee.

If you think these fees are too high to transact on the world's most secure computational network, you're a newb, that's the only explanation.

Thanks for your opinion, but did you even read this thread? Or is this irony?

I don't object paying more if there's valid reason for that. I'd be happy to help miners, help improve Bitcoin infrastructure, help maintain LN nodes etc but why should we all pay for some d*ckhead uploading billions of monkey pics believing "it's the next big thing" and hoping he can get rich by selling you that crap some day? You seriously think Bitcoin was built for that purpose?  Grin

Be happy people are using Bitcoin for things and not other blockchains.

I'm not even going to comment on this, it's just laughable! Muahahaha...  Grin
1142  Economy / Gambling / Re: shame on the stake on: March 04, 2023, 03:01:58 PM
good evening everyone. Today I ran into a problem that made me ashamed of such a well-known casino as Steak.

I bet on table tennis, at the moment the score became 10-9 in favor of the one I bet on. I immediately understood that if the score becomes 10-10, then I will redeem the bet (with a score of 10-9, bets are closed in this casino)
the score became 10-10 and I immediately clicked on the redemption.
as a result, the site thought for 7 seconds, and while these 7 seconds went by, the score became already 10-11 and I was not allowed to redeem the bet. just because their website is lagging. support did not help me, they just unsubscribed

" I am sorry but there is nothing that we can do in these situations, when our odds provider rejects cashout attempt all bets are being settled per the final result as stated in the sportsbook rules."

I just want people to know that there may be bugs like this on this site and support won't support you.

Frankly, I don't see anything you could shame Stake for here. A lag is a lag and if you're making last second bets you have to take it into account. It can happen with any bet and in any casino.

Was expecting honestly more from Djokovic in this semi final but Medvedev pulled through and now it looks more like an easy win for him against one of the best. Now he has a match against Rublev in an all russian final and it might be intresting to see who will win.
Djokovic losing the match is completely unexpected. Medvedev have done it in the direct sets. It looks like Djokovic have certain game tricks where he used to loss the first set and makes a comeback in the next two sets. This time it hadn't worked for him. Medvedev at his best and the final will be more interesting as Rublev is a tough contender. I predicted Zverev will reach the finals.

Djokovic losing that semi final for me was not unexpected, I did say it could go either
way. Looking at the stats after the match the unforced error count was 38 for Djokovic,
12 for Medvedev.

It was a cracking match, some really great points scored. Medvedev was able to impose
his game on Djokovic and he couldnt deal with it.

So now we have learned that Djokovic wont have it all his own way this year!

It was a hell of a match. In my opinion Djokovic gave his all, there was no reserve, he was going at 100%. And yet he wasn't able to win. That's certainly partly due to age. There were lots of awesome rallies and many were unexpectedly won by Medvedev. He also did great in returning Djoko's serves. All in all: well deserved win for Daniil. 3rd title in a row!   Shocked

So, ordinals are to blame for this, exactly as I thought... can we (Bitcoin community) do something to get rid of them? Nodes can ignore them perhaps? This crap has to be stopped, it reminds me of 2017 and tx spam by big blockers, people paid thousands in fees...  Angry
So you want to use a free and decentralized coin that is available for all the people and restrict it for those people and use cases you don't like? That's not how Bitcoin works. If it did that, it would be the same shit we grew up around, called traditional finance. I am not happy with the ordinal crap clogging up the mempools either, but Bitcoin doesn't do blacklists.

I want to believe that this ordinals plague can be stopped before it grows to gargantuan size. Can NFT transactions be marked and refused by most nodes? Or perhaps increase fee for NFT transactions?
After we do that, I suggest we implement mandatory KYC in Bitcoin to prevent the Irish and Swedes from using it at all. My God, such horrible people. Our suggestions have equal chances of getting implemented.

This is a good test to see if Bitcoin is ready for a full-scale economy. And, how does everyone think it's doing? People are dreaming of bitcoin becoming the currency of the world, but it's currently struggling with bananas. Imagine the horror of sending a transaction if it did gain a huge influx of new users that constantly use it.

Man, you're clueless. You're mixing apples and oranges here. What's happening now with these ordinals is called terrorism. It's not freedom, it's undermining the whole system, whole Bitcoin world. What you're saying is "oh, poor dude, he beat the sh*t out of blockchain with his 25 billions of monkey pics! let him go on, it's freedom!".

And no, it's not a test. It's just abuse and making something work not as it was meant to.  Angry

I want to believe that this ordinals plague can be stopped before it grows to gargantuan size.
I'm afraid that the only manner to slow down the damage of this nonsense is to rise the block size limit.

That big block nonsense may cause way more damage than ordinal nonsense.  Grin  Remember Bitcoin Cash? Been there done that!

There has to be some other solution... like persuading the guy behind ordinals to migrate to ETH blockchain? Perhaps he's not aware of all advantages of ETH?  Grin
1146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mempool full? Long transaction times + fees x10! on: March 03, 2023, 08:38:25 AM
The reason is an app called Ordinals, something like an NFT using bitcoin blockchain
NFT make our live worse

Absolutely nailed it!  Grin
1147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mempool full? Long transaction times + fees x10! on: March 03, 2023, 07:48:02 AM
If you sent out a transaction at 10 sats/vbyte, just wait it out. It could get confirmed anytime. I don't think you will wait for so long.

Never initiate a bitcoin transaction before you check mempool.space or Jochen Hoenicke's site.
This is what I always do and I have never been disappointed when I am sending out a transaction.

I really hate how this NFT bullshit is spreading to the Bitcoin blockchain and spamming it, but I guess there is nothing we can do as of now.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm going to do. I'm not in a hurry, so I'll wait.

I want to believe that this ordinals plague can be stopped before it grows to gargantuan size. Can NFT transactions be marked and refused by most nodes? Or perhaps increase fee for NFT transactions?
1148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mempool full? Long transaction times + fees x10! on: March 02, 2023, 09:59:18 PM
I guess you didn't make any transactions in the past month. Otherwise you would have known about the state of the mempools. Ordinals were introduced in January, and ever since we have witnessed 10-30k of unconfirmed transactions. There was a brief period when the meter dropped down to just a few k, but it didn't last long. Never initiate a bitcoin transaction before you check mempool.space or Jochen Hoenicke's site.

Not really, as a matter of fact I make transactions regularly, 2-4 times a week and I was able to get away with 1sat/byte fee mostly. I also spotted that bech32 wallets need higher fees to send a tx than older "legacy" wallets. Identical transactions, almost same time and bech32 took longer and demanded higher fee. Just a coincidence?

So, ordinals are to blame for this, exactly as I thought... can we (Bitcoin community) do something to get rid of them? Nodes can ignore them perhaps? This crap has to be stopped, it reminds me of 2017 and tx spam by big blockers, people paid thousands in fees...  Angry

Regarding this:

I'm not sure why you're so ultimative. One can always bump fee, you don't risk anything. And I'm not in a hurry most of the time...  Cool
1149  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Mempool full? Long transaction times + fees x10! on: March 02, 2023, 07:20:20 PM
Something is brewing in the Bitcoin world? For the last 2-3 days I can I witness slow transactions and huge fees. I got used to 1sat/byte transactions and they always get through so I sent a couple of sats to myself but you can't imagine how surprised I was when I saw my tx is ~75mb from tip! My wallet suggested a fee of 10sat/bytes! So, what's going on? Is this connected with that ordinals mumbo-jumbo?  Huh
1150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Invest in Bitcoin by selling wife's jewelry on: March 02, 2023, 05:51:25 PM

We know gold is very precious metal, but Bitcoin is much more expensive than gold. Bitcoin will cross $100k after halving in 2024 ie if I invest $3000 in Bitcoin now then there is a chance of getting 10x after 2024. If I get $30000 from investing $3000, nothing can be as valuable as Bitcoin. I explained this formula to my wife at night and she was not willing to give me her jewelery at first but today she told me by herself that you can sell my jewelery and invest in Bitcoin. At present I am forced to sell my wife's jewelery as I have no fiat money.
I seek advice from expert investors/holders/users of this forum,,,,
whether selling my wife's jewelery and investing on bitcoins makes sense?
Is it reasonable to invest in gold rather than bitcoin?

Haha I can see the name of the next thread: Invest in Bitcoin by selling my kidney  Grin

Jokes aside, I guess if your wife is ok with that why not? Go for it, no pain no gain! The craziest, riskiest decisions in life bring the most profit if you succeed.

February 27, BLiTZ: News On the island of Bali in Indonesia, Russian investment blogger Yuri Boytsov was beaten and robbed. According to the tg-channel Baza, unknown persons forced him to transfer bitcoins in the amount of $284,000 to their accounts. According to him, the attackers are an Indonesian in the form of a policeman, a man in a Balaklava, as well as two “two men of Caucasian appearance.”

According to the blogger, the attackers broke into his villa and began to demand money for the fact that he “dumped” someone. Fighters did not want to give away their funds. And then the unknown hit him on the head several times. So they managed to force the Russian to unlock the smartphone and transfer the passwords. Some transfers had to be verified.

His girlfriend, who was with Boytsov, said that the service did not miss a transfer for such a large amount. To fulfill their plan, the kidnappers photographed a Russian citizen with a passport and sent the photo to the support service. After that, the hijackers left the villa, and the victims went to the local law enforcement officers to write a statement. The police managed to detain one of the alleged perpetrators – their faces were visible on video from surveillance cameras – but he denies his guilt. According to the detainee, the Russian is a swindler himself.

i'm sorry for the victim, who seems to be still unable to get his bitcoins, news of robberies like this have caused a stir several times because the thief did not want cash or other valuables from the victim but only targeted the victim's bitcoin.

there is no detailed explanation of how the thief could find out that the tourist has bitcoins, however, bitcoin ownership cannot tell it to other people because it is very sensitive and can provoke crime.

if you have already told other people the number of your bitcoins, you should make other reasons when people ask you about it again, crime can come from anyone and anywhere, so being suspicious is quite important.

It seems that the Russian guy is a scammer (see the link posted a bit earlier in this thread: https://tor-corporation.com/en/urii-boicov-razvod-na-dengi-razoblachenie-moshennika/) most probably he was selling fake crypto tips/signals and the two caucasian guys mentioned in the article were angry Russians who got scammed by him and decided to take revenge Grin

P.S. Another possible reason he got robbed is like many have mentioned here that he was possibly bragging about his Bitcoin stash.

Medvedev v Bublik tonight, I'm betting on Medvedev. This season is not the best one for Bublik, he lost 8 straight first rounds this year so far. In Marseille he managed to reach semi-final which is his best performance this year so far. Medvedev has won several titles already this year and he shows no signs of stopping.  Cool
1153  Economy / Gambling / Re: NAKAMOTO ROULETTE launched today on: February 28, 2023, 08:13:23 PM
I haven't created a full account on this site, but it's good that you can test it like the roulette which I enjoyed. There are games that are really live in a casinos as I have bet together with someone on the floor, it's that I don't understand the language, lol, but I don't see that as a big problem.

I actually turn the free money to like x6 on the roulette last night. It was fun on my end, although it's free money, I still bet like it was just real money because that will be my strategy, the same when I decided to create an account and deposit. Let's see, what games I will want to try next.

How about a bit of a 'test bounty';

THE NEXT 10 PEOPLE WHO SIGN UP AND THEN EMAIL INFO@NAKAMOTOROULETTE.COM REQUESTING A "TEST BOUNTY" WILL RECEIVE 1000 SATS FOR FREE.

These SATS can be played and withdrawn at any time. No questions asked.

You didnt answer about the casino provider. we need to know details about them before agree to play on it.
it can be rigged. what their name?  Where can I find info about them?

Most casinos use evolutions games which is 7b company.
they provide all the live black jacn and rolluete game and can be trusty.

I think they mentioned somewhere here in this thread that they produce their own streams. And as they're claiming it's for anonymity purposes, it's impossible to verify.
1154  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin Disrupting our Financial Landscape? on: February 28, 2023, 07:40:27 AM
As we all know that Bitcoin is firstly introduced to us for it's convenience and numerous benefits. Being banked or underbanked, we can still enjoy the benefits and the accessibility of transactions as long as we have access to internet. Another benefit also is the anonimity it gives to people(although some would probably say not totally). By this, it is only right to say that Bitcoin has the potential to completely transform the way we think about money and finance. Compared to what we traditionally knew about finance, cryptocurrencies and bitcoin allows an individual to participate on the global economy without much requirement that otherwise it would be impossible. Although this is beneficial for developing countries, where traditional banking services may not be available or accessible, we couldn't deny the fact that it is slowly changing or disrupting the financial structure that we knew.

what do you guys think?

Yes, slowly but steadily it's doing just that.. but, a real change will come when banks will start closing or moving to BTC, countries will start embracing Bitcoin en masse, Bitcoin adoption by retail users will reach 90-95%. Only then we'll start to enjoy all features Bitcoin has to offer, all it was designed for. But yes, I agree Bitcoin is changing finance for good.  Cool
1155  Economy / Economics / Re: Would You Consider Adding Bitcoin to Your Retirement Savings on: February 28, 2023, 07:22:10 AM
I read this article last year and stumbled upon it again today. I find the article quite relevant in 2023, as bitcoin awareness spreads across the world. I feel there will be a positive correlation between its awareness and adoption. Supporters and believers in bitcoin would want to go the extra mile to show their belief in Satoshi's project. Let's talk about retirement. I have provided a snippet of the article below, along with some questions for discussion. I hope we can engage with it.

Quote
Some investors may soon be able to add cryptocurrencies to their 401(k) accounts. Fidelity Investments announced Tuesday it will begin allowing investors to put cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin in 401(k) retirement accounts, making it the first provider to do so. The offering will be available midyear for the 23,000 companies that use Fidelity for their retirement accounts. (Of course, your employer, as the plan sponsor, has to agree to it.) Some investors may be wondering if cryptocurrencies have a place in their retirement savings. Many financial advisors say it can be part of a well-balanced investment portfolio, and have noted that clients have already been adding it to their investments outside of employer-sponsored retirement savings.

As a bitcoin supporter, would you consider adding bitcoin to your retirement savings, or do you prefer the traditional 401(K) or IRA? If yes, to what degree? 100%, 75 %, 50%? Also, do you think that accepting bitcoin into your retirement savings account is a form of the DCA method?

Yes, it's a good idea and it should be not less than 50%. Ok, if you're planning to retire soon than maybe less (20-25%?). Let me remind you that the biggest Bitcoin gains come from hodling and retirement account is exactly that. So, if your retirement will happen, say, 20 years from now it doesn't matter will it be a bottom or ATH - you will receive significantly more than you initially invested.
1156  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How can we make Bitcoin simpler? on: February 27, 2023, 09:10:05 PM
A lot of people who would be interested in Bitcoin are not adopting it because they do not understand how Bitcoin works with the dollar it is taught in schools but it is also easy to get into without any major risk. Bitcoin you are your own bank but how do people get the knowledge required for that responsibility?

I thought hardware wallets are a answer but they require a purchase and a lot of people who are trying Bitcoin will not want to use something that they have to purchase. I think this is a major obstacle for a lot of people buying Bitcoin they buy Bitcoin and they make a mistake and because of how Bitcoin is designed they can not reverse the mistake and lose their coins. I am not suggesting we allow Bitcoin to be reversible but how can we help people avoid losing their money through error?

Can we solve this with software or are we going to need to develop cheaper to buy hardware wallets that allow people to use it without a lot of brain power and do not have to worry about a lot of the security because it is already done but just be viligant and make sure you are sending to the correct address and not falling for scams.

I really don't think we need to make Bitcoin even simpler to use. The easier it is to buy Bitcoin the easier it will be to lose it. Some learning curve is necessary, if you have to use your brain to buy Bitcoin, you will also use your brain to not lose it. I got to know Bitcoin back in 2010 and for me Bitcoin is as easy as FIAT. Even easier in fact. I suspect that people don't want to buy Bitcoin not because they don't know how or they don't want to learn but because they don't want change. Change is frightening, change is uncomfortable. You get used to things, get stuck inside your comfort zone. And no hardware wallet or reversible tx will fix this.
1157  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the IMF Qualms With Regulating/ Banning Bitcoin? on: February 27, 2023, 07:28:42 PM
The IMF should take it easy on trying to propagate bad news about bitcoin despite having evidence to the contrary. Earlier this month, the IMF visited San Salvador from Jan. 30 to Feb. 8, and two things to note from their visit are, first, that the risks it raised in accepting bitcoin as a legal tender in 2021 have mostly been avoided, and secondly, that the Salvadoran economy grew rapidly by 2.8% in 2022. Now, instead of hiding their heads in shame, they are calling for a ban on Bitcoin or more regulation. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, crypto needs “more regulation.” She added, “We should not take off the table banning those assets,” if regulation fails or is too slow to implement. Too bad for them, the evidence is clear from El Salvador that, despite their status, they do not know it all, and secondly, there is a positive impact of Bitcoin on a country's economic growth. The only point where I agree with them is that any country that chooses to accept Bitcoin as a legal tender should also consider implementing Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) policies and increasing fiscal transparency. These are my thoughts, what's yours?

What a bunch of pathetic clowns! They can't ban or stop Bitcoin, it's simply not possible. You can slow it down, yes, but you can't stop it completely. And I don't think any additional regulation or transparency is needed. You know that nowadays the definition of terrorism can be adjusted and almost any individual or company or country can be called a terrorist for little to no reason (just because it can profitable for someone?). Sad
1158  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: February 27, 2023, 07:20:15 AM
Finally it was a win for Cameron Norrie in the Rio Open final match. From the first set the fight have begun and Alcaraz won the set 7-5. The second one was a win for Cameron Norrie winning 6-4, once again Cameron Norrie have won the third set 7-5 after good fight. As you've mentioned this match isn't a walkover and have outlawed the prediction of Alcaraz winning the trophy.
Really a surprising result because it is Alcaraz's favorite surface, in the previous tournament Alcaraz was able to beat Norrie with a convincing score and from the results of the tournament no one thought that Norrie would be able to avenge his defeat on clay tournament, watch Alcaraz highlights seemed pretty certain to get this title because the second set he was already 3-0 up but everything changed and it was amazing comeback from Norrie, what was interesting in the third set was that Alcaraz served under arm and it was good that Norrie was able to get a point from that.

Guys, did you even watch the match? Carlitos got and injury and it's really surprising he didn't withdraw (although it could be seen how painful it was). He won the first set, without any visible health issues (imo he moved a bit slower than he normally does) 7:5 but after that OMG. He was 3:0 ahead in the second and started losing literally point after point. Then he called a physio and it became clear something was troubling him. There were several moments in the match when it looked like he'd be able to turn the tide despite his injury and Norrie was a bit hesitant but still I guess Carlitos was in pain so he didn't succeed.

Anyway, we can only hope Alcaraz will be ok for the clay season and, more importantly RG.  Cool

Congrats! This is really really cool, I guess you're living a dream of every gambler. Need I say that it's very complicated to win such a complex bet (19 events?). So far I haven't seen anyone winning a row of 19 bets! You mentioned you have a positive yearly balance with a bookie so you must be really lucky!  Cool
1160  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: February 26, 2023, 03:43:19 PM
This! Many seem to disregard the fact that Russia keeps exporting and the West keeps buying both oil and natural gas. They even seem to earn more than the did before the war started. So those who are waiting 1-2-6 months for Russia to run out of money/resources seem to be waiting in vain!

Let's look at statistics: during 2022 gas export from Russia went down comparing with 2021; gas prices were high in the middle of a year and then went down. So idea that Russia earns more then previously is not based on facts. But right, expecting that one of a biggest economy in the world will fall in several months is a strange idea as well. Russian economy is shrinking but it will not do it so fast. Global economy processes usually takes years and sometimes tens of years for getting results.

Undoubtedly, the Russian economy suffered losses from restrictive measures regarding the export of oil, natural gas, diesel fuel, etc.

However, these losses are not capable of inflicting a heavy blow on the Russian economy in the short and even medium term.  More significant damage to the economy of the Russian Federation is caused by the militarization of its economy and the growing technological degradation.  This is a very big problem.

But it concerns rather the citizens of Russia, as it directly correlates with the gradual deterioration of their standard of living.

At the same time, modern Russia is a part of the world economy, a rather important part.  Another thing is that this circumstance, in my opinion, cannot be used as a weapon....

Exactly, and moreover: I've read somewhere Russian politicians were quite surprised the sanctions were so mild, they expected them to be much harsher. So they planned accordingly and Russia is now capable of withstanding sanctions for years or decades. So I'm not really sharing the joy of local regulars circle jerking in this thread to how effective the sanctions are.  Grin
