1801  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / what software to use with asic device? on: June 13, 2013, 11:13:10 PM
ok, so i am awaiting delivery of a BFL single (I know, I know ... 2 weeks) and I was wondering what software I should use with it. I have heard mention once that BFL will include software with the miner, but that is all i have heard. none of the devs who have demo'd their units mention anything about software, and i cant seem to find any info. can anyone enlighten me? I plan to mine in a pool.

1803  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: British pubs accepting bitcoin. on: June 09, 2013, 11:11:47 PM
Despite the website looking like something from the 80s

Which is a good thing. I'm sick of all these morons who just finished some course on web design and wanna show off their "skills" and then fill their web sites with all kinds of applets, flash, Java, etc., and the sites end up not showing correctly on a lot of browsers. Unless needed because of their specific purposes, sites should stick to basic, 100% compliant HTML as much as possible. I write all my sites on PSPad, by the way. They may look simple but they work for everyone. If 10% of viewers have trouble viewing your web site, that means 10K less users out of 100K visitors. OK, I've vented it all out now, feeling much better. Cheesy

here's a little something you will enjoy then http://www2.warnerbros.com/spacejam/movie/jam.htm

1804  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: British pubs accepting bitcoin. on: June 09, 2013, 11:05:54 PM
So do you need a particular iphone/Andriod app for that?  Or is it a case of scanning a barcode and sending the relevant amount from a web wallet such as Coinbase?

Any Windows Phone equivalent app?

Not sure about windows phones, but i-phone does not support a mobile wallet. Android phones do though.

Using a web wallet is possible though it is a bit more of a fuss than using a mobile wallet.

There is a petition urging apple to support a bitcoin wallet and you can see/sign it here...

https://www.change.org/petitions/apple-allow-bitcoin-wallets-on-the-iphone
I've got a blockchain.info app on my ipod (I dont use an iphone, ipod + wifi is good enough for my cheap ass) and I keep around 25$ worth of btc in my blockchain wallet when I want to go out and do real-world spending. ofc I haven't found any real place I want to spend money yet as I live in a remote place, but I have tried it out by sending tiny amounts from one wallet client to another by scanning qr codes. Very simple and easy to use.

PS. I will be in Paris all summer and would love to try it out for reals, esp. if I can buy booze. Why do Parisiennes resist adopting the btc so hard? cant find anything there :-(

1806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So how did YOU first hear about bitcoin? on: June 07, 2013, 11:25:03 PM
4chan, believe it or not.
oddly, its the third very profitable bit of info I caught wind of on /b/
(I thoroughly researched each tip b4 investing ofc)
one involving a way to boost adsense profits (made over 60k)
another was a tip on some pharmaceutical penny stock (made ~30k)
and bitcoin I heard about in early 2012, started buying at 20 early this year as it was just beginning to shoot up.(wish I'd acted sooner)

sometimes the /b/ros are goodguygreg!
1807  Economy / Speculation / Re: When to sell Bitcoin? on: June 04, 2013, 08:36:05 PM
Spend it whenever you want to spend, just rebuy the coins you have used.
Unless you have regular income in Bitcoins that is the way to go o,o

Selling them? well maybe cash out your initial investment once the price is high enough, so you will never have to fear to lose something.
+1000 this

1809  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will LTC make it or BTC be the lone king? on: May 30, 2013, 01:12:34 AM
I too, keep asking the advantages of LTC over BTC and haven't gotten a good answer. It makes me wonder if the buyers are justs speculators who feel they missed the BTC boat and have a new chance to get rich quick.

When I ask the advantages of PPC over BTC, I actually get many answers.
The advantage i`ll think will see when asic`s gone to work with their fool power, i believe so.

this may create a second bubble for litecoin, and frankly I am holding my meager collection of LTC to see how the ASIC wave and possible inclusion in bigger exchanges pans out. However, unless LTC gets some more infrastructure it wont last. I know there are a few devs working, and a scant few businesses that accept it, but you could say the same for BTC 2 years ago. I do own a few LTC and it is few enough that if it falls flat idgaf but if it succeeds I can take my wife and daughter out for a nice dinner after I cash out. I wholly agree with the "not innovating, just imitating" argument, but I fully understand the power of greed and latecomers desire to get in on a possible second wave with a less expensive investment. The silver analogy fits pretty good. although over 80% of all silver is used industrially, and i'm pretty sure 99% of LTC is about speculation.

1811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Satoshi be the most influential man of the century? on: May 25, 2013, 02:17:29 AM
he has introduced a real game changer, but if someone solves the environmental problems, they will be the most influential. money is important, but not much good if there is no air to breath.
1812  Economy / Speculation / Re: wow, bitcoin's astro birth chart is full on! on: May 25, 2013, 02:00:57 AM
I am able to live with a contradiction in my beliefs that astrology is false but also maybe for real, so I like to look at these type of things and wait and see how it turns out. Sometimes the predictions are accurate. For instance; around 1999/2000 the psychics were making all sorts of predictions for what interesting developments will transpire in this century, and one in particular stands out in my memory. Said psychic said that around 2008 something will appear, it will be a technological advancement, most likely related to the internet, yet it will not involve text or images. they said this thing will change the world and affect virtually every person on the planet. also it said its origins and appearance will be shrouded in some sort of mystery.

sounds like bitcoin to me.

also, capricorns are supposedly due to make a lot of money in 2013. I am a capricorn, as well as bitcoin, and I can verify both predictions are true.

also, capricorns often have troubled youths and adolescence, which would explain some of the bumpy ride btc has been having.

interesting chart there. thanks for that work!
1813  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Offbeat or foereign exchanges on: May 19, 2013, 10:00:24 PM
I'm in Canada, and have tried all the canadian exchanges. cavertex has been the easiest, fastest, best priced so far. Libertybits is easy but charges waaaaaay too much, has ridiculous spreads. I've simply had too much trouble getting verified from out-of-canada exchanges, so I don't bother with them. Please note, 99% of my use of exchanges is to simply buy btc to hold, so my info only relates to that end of the service.
1814  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Foundation is TOXIC and must dissolve, plus a call to action on: May 19, 2013, 09:54:08 PM
If you hate the system, you might find it less effective to be always fighting it at every turn; than to simply find a way to make the system be your servant.

Failing that; move to a cabin in Montana, work on your manifesto, and build mail-bombs.
1815  Economy / Speculation / Re: I speculate the price of bitcoin will go up, then down, then up, then down. on: May 19, 2013, 09:45:43 PM
you could ramp your calculations up a notch if you used a speculum.
1816  Economy / Speculation / Re: How to make $10,000 with just $60 on: May 19, 2013, 09:43:59 PM
I apply a similar logic as OP to my purchasing of lottery tickets. If there is a huge jackpot, many people buy 2 tickets. I only buy one, because; when I win with the first ticket, the second ticket is a waste of 2 dollars, so if I purchase 2, I am actually throwing two bucks down the drain. Winning!

As much as I want to believe this, I'm sure this will only end in disaster.

The best parties ALWAYS end in disaster. Grin

i dont know about you, but my best parties tend to end in champagne, cocaine and blowjobs.  Wink
1820  Economy / Speculation / Re: Three Paypal founders invest in BitPay on: May 17, 2013, 07:46:06 AM
yeah, they were just the start-up guys at paypal. no longer have any financial interest in it. they are obviously ahead of the curve here. precisely what btc needs.
