Still waiting on an explanation for those 1360 blocks Smiley

It was all a conspiracy to spearhead the announcement of HazardCoin!
1823  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] HazardCoin, a unique scrypt based coin based on time on: May 14, 2013, 04:33:08 AM
So... just how big is the reward for the first block? .. the number of seconds since Jan 1 1970? :>
Block reward for the first 5 blocks (including the genesis block) will be set to zero.

I'll humor this.

1825  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [ANN] HazardCoin, a unique scrypt based coin based on time on: May 14, 2013, 04:27:44 AM
Name is a placeholder and will be changed before the final release

Preliminary HazardCoin features:

Retarget every 6 hours
5 minute block target time

^ Both largely irrelevant because... Block reward will be based on the amount of time passed since last block found. This unique mechanism will set it apart from all other altcoins, and also accomplishes the following:

* Make premining and instamining impossible
* Keep a steady and predictable coin generation rate
* DDOSing pools to decrease difficulty will accomplish absolutely nothing
* Discourage pool/coin hopping
* Provide incentive to continue mining even when network hash rate goes down (i.e. feathercoin)

The biggest place other altcoins have failed is in how they have been released. To ensure the smoothest launch possible:

* Release date will be announced at least 24 hours in advance.
* Password protected zip files containing the binaries will be posted 30 mins before release.
* By design, the coin will be impossible to premine or instamine

Most honest coin yet!

Wait... is this going to be a real coin?
I mean, it can be. If there's actually an interest for it. I just thought of it off the top of my head.

I like it hazard. Keep me informed. If you actually make this coin I'll be your first pool Smiley

To generate 1360 blocks would take much longer than the time between his PM to me, and my post about it on the board. Theory disproven.
No it wouldn't. On 0.000~ diffculty you can generate 1300 blocks in couple hours.
False. There's a hardcap of 1 block per ~2.5 seconds even at 0 difficulty. Create your own coin and try it yourself! It's the reason why 0 difficulty coins don't reach block 2000 instantly after launch.

Perhaps I should take this opportunity to make HazardCoin? I know how to compile my own code, and won't premine a blockchain! Shocked

Awesome! or are you milkshake in disguise.......

dun dun DUNNNNN  Grin
The plot thickens!

Hmm, depending whether Hazard's ZIP file contains the actual source from Milkshake, that seems like an awefully low starting difficulty, even if not pre-mined.
Yes, that is the default litecoin starting difficulty. It wasn't changed.

Maybe you mined it

Keep in mind the OP's code has been available on Github (https://github.com/elacoin/elacoin)

Hence, anyone could have ZIP'ed it up, created a valid genesis block, and then claimed milkshake sent him it.

Here's a good litmus test.  Hazard, since you are the expert at compiling for Windows please post a working Windows client
I already provided the source, screenshots of the working client, and my correspondence with him. I owe you nothing more. Compile the source yourself if you are so inclined.
1835  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Elacoin | Releasing In 1 Day | Fair Elastic Scrypt Mining | No Premine on: May 14, 2013, 03:47:11 AM
I welcome milkshake to join the thread and discuss my findings.

Perhaps create a fresh genesis block and have a legitimate release, even.
1836  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Elacoin | Releasing In 1 Day | Fair Elastic Scrypt Mining | No Premine on: May 14, 2013, 03:43:38 AM
how does he know how to compile on linux but not windows??
It's actually a lot easier. You can compile from a git with (I believe) 3 lines of code.

For windows, the compile process is a lot more tricky.
1837  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Elacoin | Releasing In 1 Day | Fair Elastic Scrypt Mining | No Premine on: May 14, 2013, 03:37:50 AM
but you discovered him already mining?  how was he mining if he didnt know how to compile a miner? with a miner on a different OS perhaps?  I may not understand the process fully but thats what seems to have happened correct?
There was already a linux miner compiled. He just couldnt get the windows one working (the only one people care about, good luck releasing a coin with no windows client)
1838  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Elacoin | Releasing In 1 Day | Fair Elastic Scrypt Mining | No Premine on: May 14, 2013, 03:33:28 AM
I'm confused why he sent it to you at all hazard?  He needed help compiling while he was already mining on a compiled miner? lol

if i have that correct.
Because he couldn't figure out how to compile windows binaries.
1839  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Elacoin | Releasing In 1 Day | Fair Elastic Scrypt Mining | No Premine on: May 14, 2013, 03:22:42 AM
Oh why not. Have fun.

Gee thanks for ruining this launch...
Wasn't planning on it until I saw the premined 1360 block chain. I just exposed it for what it is Wink

I'll also take this opportunity to say that someone who can't even compile their own client really has no business releasing their own coin.

How do you even run Hazard's file?
You compile it... Its a C++ program so use g++ or Visual Studios on windows.
Bit more in depth than that. Some of the provided files were messed up, so I had to frankenstein it together with another litecoin fork to get a working compile. For those brave enough to try...
