jgarzik is finally going to rush his blocksize 'patch' through after 7 years?

He should have prepared properly after 7 years.

Badness and wrongness all around.

Bad coders in cartel with malicious miners are rushing forward with a crucial, contentious protocol change in one of the worst possible ways.

Hypocrites have been screeching about "Satoshi's vision" for 3 years and when it comes to a blocksize hardfork they rush it out under emergency 'crisis' (more screeching lies and half-truths) ... diametrically opposed to about the only thing satoshi suggested any concrete plans for ...

Quote
It can be phased in, like:

if (blocknumber > 115000)
    maxblocksize = largerlimit

It can start being in versions way ahead, so by the time it reaches that block number and goes into effect, the older versions that don't have it are already obsolete.

It feels like a part of bitcoin is dying.
1823  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 10, 2017, 02:37:12 AM
August 1 might be interesting from bitcoin specific viewpoint but I tend to think it may be something of an anti-climax either way it goes.

August 21 is the one I have penciled in my diary ... Black Moon Total Eclipse with a Path of Totality that passes over much of the continental USA, I think it  goes without saying that many dipshit americans will predictably lose their shit and the usual suspects will over-react, including financial markets.

Interestingly, the path of totality passes very close to the Yellowstone Super-volcano that has shown some signs of increased activity lately (with earlier close passes of the moon obstruction?). The massive size of the magma plume that lies beneath Yellowstone maybe large enough to incur tidal force perturbations due to the solar eclipse, significant enough to cause rumblings from the beast within the Earth.

And then there is the possibility of anomalous gravitational forces (or torques) at work during Total Solar Eclipses, that have been partially recorded in past experiments but never rigorously verified or comprehensively explained, coming into play ... Allais Effect

Popping the cork on a Super-volcano would start a huge party.

I'm sure I'll be castigated soundly here ...

... consider yourself castigated. Roger has done pretty scummy things and employed low-life methods to achieve his ends (however stupidly well-meaning yet misguided). I wouldn't even buy firecrackers off him (or explosives).

This is much more major than anyone seems to be acknowledging so far ... BIG money has most definitely arrived, let's see if they can behave themselves and not go bankrupt and look for taxpayers bailouts like they do with everything else.

Thanks theymos.

Good luck infofront, I trust that your major alt-coin interests will not bias your moderation of WO but I sure there will be plenty of keen observers,

Well done all candidates for being prepared to step up.

Personally, I find Lauda's insistence on gender neutrality refreshing. Sexual ambiguity is very today.

... but is it really ambiguous when she insists on being on top?

So they closed the Wall Observer thread because of "Spam" and now there are 5-10 different wall observer threads, none coming close to the large number of watchers on the old thread. Great Job!

The "plan" is to re-open the old one when a new owner can be agreed upon.

Sounds to me like a hostile take over. Most people have multiple BTCTalk usernames so using a poll to decide is meaningless, it just means the most sockpuppet accounts voted for the winner which is even more reason NOT to give them the moderator position.

You should go there and express your thoughts. theymos has been around a while and is probably a few tricks ahead of all the scumbags WO has attracted in the past.

good lord!...i had to scroll back to make sure i was in the correct thread...

ROFL!

I know that feeling! Same here!

... no, that's just your goldfish level intellect playing tricks on you again.

One more time around the bowl ...

This isn't official until I see Jimbo post

Official?

No, it's Marcus Legendary-only dream, but he couldn't implement the code, so only thing he can do is deleting non-Legendary posts...

first warning ... don't piddle on the carpet you stupid little puppy.

Bitfinex and Bitstamp are converging on price again ... $2600 is looking surprisingly stable.

Maybe we are in for some BIG sideways movements??
1834  Economy / Economics / Re: Martin Armstrong Discussion on: July 06, 2017, 04:57:46 AM

You need to stop flat out lying.  It's completely impossible for you to not know bitcoin has solved zero problems whatsoever concerning money.  It doesn't solve byzantine generals, it has no Nash equilibrium, it's full of counter party risk, it's designed to centralize, doesn't scale, not fungible, not a store of value, etc.  Hence it's zero competition to gold and silver in current state.  You don't get to make believe that all these problems, which most are unsolvable, will magically be fixed someday in the future and claim bitcoin is better than metals.  Bitcoin in current form is literally trash compared to gold and silver.

It's a linked list with a get rich quick scheme built on top of it, nothing more, nothing less.  Everything about it is completely arbitrary in nature.  It does not isolate any type of problem and solve it in an objective manner.  It's a Rube Goldberg machine.

Hi guys..

If I end up with this thread I would

Set up polls at least once a week..

Set up polls on what to do with the thread

Encourage a chartbuddy replacement/reincarnation

Encourage Technical analysis and views

Post some newses

Post the occasional stupid ass meme

Will not be too heavy handed especially when there is quiet times...

Will be less tolerant of spammy/troll overdosing

It would be cool to set up some sort of beer escrow tip type thang

But also just have a laugh tbh -

Not really down for the racist shit either

Anyway- this place is going to go nuts over the next month or so regardless Wink

Totally down for a laugh - jus try n keep it classy y'know?

awesome ... and candy for the children, goodies for everyone etc? Grin

you need to hug some babies on camera to seal the deal usually ... you got my vote already btw.

How do I change my vote? ... all this last minute politicking has changed my mind on suitability of the candidates.

Does empowering really have a connection with the monkey?
1837  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [announce] Namecoin - a distributed naming system based on Bitcoin on: July 04, 2017, 02:08:12 AM
I know Satoshi Nakamoto was involved in Namecoin. Was Aaron Swartz?

Aaron wrote a proposal for Nakanames, which described a system very similar to Namecoin.  Aaron wrote this a few months after Appamatto proposed BitDNS, but a few months before Vince released Namecoin.  So to that extent, Aaron was involved with Namecoin.  I am unaware of any conversations/discussions that Aaron had with the Namecoin developers (or the BitDNS discussion participants).

1838  Other / Meta / Re: What to do with the wall observer thread? on: July 04, 2017, 01:49:06 AM

It's not technically possible to have more than one moderator of a thread, or to apply additional posting restrictions to the thread, or to prevent posts from counting in that thread, unless I create a new section for it.

I'm sure any voting would end up picking a decent candidate that would be in touch with thread culture, and if that person believes s/he needs help in the thread, s/he can elicit such help - even though it seems that there may be some inability to give actual powers to anyone beyond the owner of the thread, unless the owner of the thread shared his/her log-in credentials or a administrative "fake" account was created for such persons and the password only known by the elected moderator(s).

I am not sure if there should be concerns about getting stuck with a tyrant, because we would be voting for the person, but if there is a feeling to allow for a continued quasi-democratic process, we may want to agree to 1 year terms or something reasonable like that.

... a succession plan is a worthwhile thought. Perhaps it could be TheDreadPirateRoberts model where the current mod chooses his successor and simply hands over the WO admin account keys to the next DreadPirateRoberts when they are over it?

In fact it would be kind of cool if the WO admin had an account name like DreadPirateRoberts or variant ...  Grin ... but what should we call the monkey then?
1839  Other / Meta / Re: What to do with the wall observer thread? on: July 03, 2017, 02:00:34 AM
I was being ironic (see the "Now seriously..." part). I have already stated I am against that sort of restriction. The only one that I would think reasonable is restricting *newbie* accounts... and even that is not something I really like.

The history of WO attacks are based on newbie accounts that were getting created by a VERY well-resourced entity. They were able to create up to 10 (or more) newbie accounts daily from seperate IP addresses that would spam the board and WO thread especially with pedophilia referenced posts, old-man porn, alt-coin discussion (mostly ETH) and other crap just to intentionally crap up the place and discourage new bitcoiners from reading useful information about pricing expectations.

The solution to that attack was to ping the newbie accounts for the Off-topic posts and then ban those accounts from the forum. They kept creating new accounts from separate IP addresses (do you know how much that costs?) and attacking WO ... you can ask Lauda who was moderating at the time to verify these facts.

Then when the Off-topic defence eventually proved effective then the attackers are now bashing the Off-Topic button to get regular users posts deleted, posts which are not disruptive or turn the place into a dump. Now the Off-Topic defence is getting attacked and the forum moderators are sick of defending those attacks we find ourselves locked out of WO (and arguing against potentially the same attackers trying to keep newbies disruption possibilities, disrupt this discussion and shut down the thread altogether).
1840  Other / Meta / Re: What to do with the wall observer thread? on: July 03, 2017, 01:49:04 AM
Wouldn't it be better to do it based on account creation? Something like you can't post to WO if you haven't been registered in the forum for at least 3 or 4 years.

This is an interesting idea that deserves some serious consideration ...
