1841  Economy / Speculation / Re: The China Hype Fades Away on: May 10, 2013, 01:01:30 AM
The feeling I get is more Chinese will mine BTC rather than purchase it outright. esp at these current prices. so, most likely lots more BTC going into circulation. we will have to see, wont we.
1842  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC next 48 hours... what do you think the value will be? and why? on: May 09, 2013, 01:18:54 AM
in my expert opinion, bitcoin will be koo koo bananas (repeat every 48 hrs)

Don't worry, it will run fine on your computer. All computers always say a little less under than what you actually got in terms of RAM.
Joshster scammed me for $100

I ignored him. I'm waiting on the 0.9 version. ;-)
1844  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: My Visit To Butterfly Labs Today! on: May 08, 2013, 12:06:55 AM
I like the butterfly knife part. he should have been rolling a cassicus coin back and forth across his knuckles and chewing on a toothpick too though.

I'm pretty sure these guys are legit. They are more or less a start-up (where ASIC are concerned) so, ofc, there are snags and unforeseen delays. That's how start-ups work. Dude has many many real problems to deal with and thousands of units to get out, as well as being grossly behind schedule, so I can't see any of the BFL team being too interested in wasting much effort on the "customer service" that you and your measly 1/3 of a jalapeno order demand.

these kind of "exposes" of BFL only give me more confidence in them. BFL says; "If you don't believe we are working as hard as we can to get you your order as fast as we can and within a reasonable estimation of our performance targets, then we dont need your money". If they were in on some sort of "long con" they would be kissing your ass and trying to get more cash out of you.

a caveat; they should have HUGE disclaimers all over their website and forums, like gigantic welcome pages full of "we are a technology in development, and although we strive to meet our projections as much as humanly possible, they are just that; projections, and we will not be held accountable for delays in delivery and/or reasonable discrepancies in projected hashrate and power consumption." because they seem to assume everybody is aware of this and has been all along. Plus it would get rid of annoying pests who are bent on wasting valuable time better spent of getting their product up, running, and out the door.

Note; I have zero to do with BFL, I just know what it is like to run a start-up and fall behind in orders due to unforeseen circumstances. All of the sudden everyone starts to think the worst, and all you can really offer is either their money back or a plea for their patience.

1845  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I'm switching to mXBT — and why you should too on: May 07, 2013, 08:35:00 AM
when they introduced the 1$ coin in canada, people began calling them loonies because there is a picture of a loon (marine bird) on the reverse of each coin. many people thought this was silly/irreverent/unacceptable, but the nickname persists to this day. micky is ok imo cuz people will remember it and feel a sort of affinity for it as it is already associated with a common nmonic. basically whatever people start calling it = its name, but since we can steer this, millies and mickies are ok with me. it anthromorphosises it a bit, which makes it human in people's minds, which can only be good. and yes, more transactions should be in mBTC, if the exchanges would adopt this we'd be all set.

1850  Other / Off-topic / Re: Google launching bebapay on: May 06, 2013, 01:27:30 AM
there's gotta be a way to sabotage this. same way click-fraud hurts adsense, hopefully users can subvert this. I hate google.
1851  Other / Off-topic / Re: Canada Cheese got cheaper on: May 06, 2013, 01:19:19 AM
cheese is retarded expensive here in Canada and in many places unpasteurized cheese is actually illegal. The Dairy Board of Canada is one of the oldest and most blatant price-fixing schemes in this nation. millions of gallons of milk, which could be just as easily distributed free to the poor, is poured down the drain to keep the supply low and the prices high. I quit dairy products a few years ago, but before , whenever traveling to the US, I would stock up on all sorts of discount cheese. Go USA!

+1

Life aint fair. deal with it.

I think one of the problems with this community is a large percentage of the members are < 18 years of age. not that being young implies stupidity, but ideas like "How come YOU got more BTC than me?Huh" are more suited to my 7 year old daughter, than an adult who has worked for what he has and understands the way the world works. we cant all be first in line.
1853  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: AI: Intelligence explosion & BTC mining on: May 06, 2013, 01:02:02 AM
my intelligence exploded just reading this thread.
1854  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: promoting bitcoin through rap/hip-hop music on: May 06, 2013, 12:22:54 AM
if bandcamp would accept BTC, that would be something, they must take in considerable $$$ every day. it would be a nice slap at iTunes.
1855  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 0.8.2. What do you think? on: May 06, 2013, 12:18:05 AM
I don't understand how a self-respecting developer can seriously consider implementing such a horrible hack as a temporary solution.

You are being paid to develop Bitcoin, right? Then come up with a real solution, and not some half-baked, dirty quick fix....

Yeah im gonna have to tend to agree with this guy... There has got to be a better solution.

And this better solution is....?

(come on, guys, you are so smart)
+1 everybody shits on gavin, yet none of them are capable, or even willing to do his job. he's a volunteer, too, you know.

I used to sit on the board of a small non-profit (a community art gallery and workshop) it was incredible how many people, full of anger and hate, would not just criticism, but outright denounce, smear, and insult all of us on the board for any and all decisions we would work on as a group. I began offering the most vocal opponents a seat on the board, it was open to the public and all were welcome of course. NOT ONE STEPPED UP! seems like its a hell of a lot easier to tell someone how to do their job than actually take any responsibility yourself.

that's my 2 uBTC worth, its flying around in space somewhere if you want to pocket it.
1856  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Holders Must Prepare For Mass Adoption on: May 06, 2013, 12:08:17 AM
I've got my holdings in cold storage then wiped my machine clean. I'm not worried about hackers, although, with china entering the picture we will indeed see "the golden age of hacking" as you say, to some degree. what I see as more probable is a flood of very cheaply produced, inexpensive, ASIC mining rigs with "made in china" stamped on the bottom. frankly, the existing ASIC manufacturers are doing such a sloppy job that some real competition will do them good. Go China!
1857  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This May Or May Not Be True, But It's Pretty Intriguing Anyway on: May 05, 2013, 11:57:56 PM
It's not a good idea to talk about "the CIA" because as Iran Contra showed there are plenty of semi-autonomous offshoots that are really just groups of people within intelligence agencies doing whatever they please. I don't know if I buy the idea but it's a possibility among many others. Especially if the CIA types thought Wall Street was getting too strong.

if ollie north had use of a bitcoin network he never would have been caught. Go USA!
1858  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: China & ASICs on: May 05, 2013, 11:04:51 AM

i hope bfl delivers before the wave of made in china knockoffs turns them all into walkmans
1859  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / China & ASICs on: May 05, 2013, 10:59:14 AM
Isn't that where they actually manufacture the chips?
there will be the wickedest homegrown chinese asic farms in no time
asia always dominates technology - this will be like a hashrate tsunami
i predict 50 Gh/s asics for 140$ USD by next spring
