1881  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help Electrum Wallet issues 2.8.2 on: July 16, 2017, 09:59:08 PM
Create another wallet using the seed you have, but when it asks you to set a password leave the password text box blank. That will create an unencrypted wallet that will not ask you for a password when you try to send coins.
1882  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Please help, getting panicked with stuck btc on: July 16, 2017, 07:58:43 PM
It's confirmed now. Bitstamp paid a fee rate of 10.655 sat/B for your transaction, most likely immediately before an increase in Bitcoin's pool of unconfirmed transactions. That probably slowed your confirmation time down.

1883  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Are my coins safe in Electrum after August 1st ? on: July 16, 2017, 07:24:34 PM
Use these instructions that explain how to split your coins with electrum. The instructions were originally a contingency plan for a BU fork, but they are also applicable to any other fork.

http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/hardfork.html?highlight=fork

While splitting your coins you can manually change the electrum settings to connect to a node on a particular chain.

At the bitnodes website search through the IP addresses from the nodes electrum's settings lists until you find the user agent indicating which chain a particular node is on.

1884  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will bitcoin hit the lowest? 1)before 21july 2) 21july-1au 3)after 1 august on: July 16, 2017, 05:18:44 PM
...I seriously wonder how many people will end up withdrawing their coins from any sort of service before the 1st of August. After all the 'hack' incidents, people are still too lazy to take care of storing their coins themselves. Lips sealed

Probably over half the people with coins on exchanges won't move them before the 1st of August. In fact they probably haven't even noticed all the commotion about a fork and won't buy or sell either. I think we will run out of panic sellers before 21 july and Bitcoin's price will begin to rise before then. There's a limited number of coin holders that take an interest in the latest developments, and plenty of other coin holders who don't read  the news.
1885  Economy / Speculation / Re: Lol @ Hardfork panic on: July 16, 2017, 03:41:50 PM
If it's not one thing it's another. People are always panicking and dumping their coins, and what do you know..... the price always rebounds much higher.

Yes it is now seen that bitcoin prices are rising again. Although only a few tens of dollars but this is very meaningful. There is a chance that there will be another rise some time ahead, if this is true then there will be many people who will regret having been wrong in making a decision.

There have been people waiting for $100 coins since early 2015 and it never happened. Now there are hardfork panicers discussing $1000 coins, and I doubt that will ever happen either. They will regret selling below $2000 when Bitcoin is $3000+.
1886  Economy / Speculation / Re: Lol @ Hardfork panic on: July 16, 2017, 03:28:07 PM
Most likely that. Only thing that bugs me is that it tempts me to sell my coins and buy them lower.... but What if the rebound comes just when my coins are sold?  Undecided

Better wait for the rebound I think  Grin

The buy back lower strategy involves trusting an exchange with your money while you wait for the bottom. If it gets hacked you could lose everything. Knowing you could have bought back lower if only your exchange hadn't been hacked isn't much compensation for losing everything.
1887  Other / MultiBit / Re: Is Multibit an abandoned project? on: July 16, 2017, 03:11:43 PM
You can always return to multibit if the devs resolve all the outstanding issues. For now it's too unreliable to use. Sometimes you need to move your coins quickly and a bug could cripple your multibit wallet at any time. Even installing breadwallet and using your multibit seed in it can take up precious time, and people with a lot of coins might not like briefly risking moving them to a phone.
1888  Economy / Speculation / Re: To sell all?? on: July 16, 2017, 02:52:35 PM
Im losing alot money with this shitty war which decrease btc to 1900$ wtf why this happening. So i need to sell all and go away or i need to wait to 22july and maybe everything will back?

Why are you considering 22 July as an important date? As far as I know the most important date regarding all the fork FUD is the first of August.

Last summer Bitcoin's price lost half its value, but by Christmas it was hitting ATHs. Keep your coins, wait until next Christmas, and hope history repeats itself.
1889  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Outside of localbitcoins, how can you guarantee you don't get scammed when buyin on: July 16, 2017, 02:22:17 PM
I wouldn't risk it, I'd either buy through an exchange, or buy through a Bitcoin ATM if any exist in your country. You can find a worldwide map containing most Bitcoin ATMs at this website. If you search for most nearby ATMs you can usually find one with low fees.

1890  Economy / Speculation / Re: Invested when BTC was at 2550 and 2320. What to do now? on: July 16, 2017, 02:13:00 PM
Hello,
I bought into BTC when it was worth both 2550 and 2320 for my personal trading.  I now have 0.2007 BTC and not sure when I should get out.  I have lost in total a hundred dollars just to the price of BTC.  Is it worth it to get out now or should I wait for it to go back up to these prices?

Not long ago Bitcoin pumped to $28000, crashed to $1800, then pumped up to $3000. The people who sold at $1800 were crying when it hit $3000. If the same scenario repeats do you want to be crying because you sold at the bottom? Don't sell because of the crash, hold your coins for the long term and wait for a new ATH before you consider selling.
1891  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there an agreed currency code for Bitcoin? on: July 15, 2017, 10:05:37 PM
BTC is definitely the most popular and most likely to be used the other will be phased out unless a chain split.

I doubt XBT will be phased out because I think as Bitcoin increases in market cap it will increasingly be traded on the Forex markets. Those markets are the biggest on Earth and are tend to use official ISO codes. They will be the ideal place to trade Bitcoin after its market cap is measure in trillions of dollars instead of in billions.
1892  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Having An Issue Importing Paper Wallet, New BTC User on: July 15, 2017, 07:40:37 PM
gtk about the mini private keys

Although electrum imports 30-character format mini private keys I don't know if it can import 22-character format minikeys. I couldn't find any example keys to test it with.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mini_private_key_format#Casascius_Series_1_coins

Quote
Casascius Series 1 Physical Bitcoins use a 22-character variant of the minikey format, instead of 30 characters. Everything is the same other than the length. To properly implement minikey redemption, services and clients MUST support the 30-character format, but MAY support the 22-character format as well. Use of the 22-character format for future applications is discouraged due to security considerations.

edit

I tested importing a 22-character format minikey and elecrum successfully imported it.

1893  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to recover btc after windows reinstall on: July 15, 2017, 07:12:13 PM
I have just copied and pasted the receiving address into blockchain info and it didn't show any coins or transactions to that address Sad

Is there only one receiving address showing in the window that opens when you click file, then receiving addresses?

If blockchain.info shows an address doesn't contain coins then it's almost certain the address is empty.
Yes just one address. Would it show all addresses before it had synched.

Bitcoin core should show all the receiving addresses generated in a wallet.dat file before it has synced. This is what an example receiving addresses window looks like in an unsynced Bitcoin core.

1895  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price fall back to 2000$. <Edited> on: July 15, 2017, 06:47:01 PM
I think it's just most people panick selling before august 1 and the others seeing the price drastically drop below $2000 others are more encouraged to sell their btcs. In your opinion tho, do you think it will be a good time to spend money and invest now or wait for the drop stop at which amount?  I haven't sold my cojns yet but like others, I'm starting to panick with the potential loss.

Now's a good time to panic buy, not panic sell. It might go a few hundred dollars lower, but I doubt it. Anyone panic selling now will be panic buying back at a higher price than they sold for in a few weeks.

If you want to invest you could invest some of your money now and wait to see if it drops lower before investing the rest. If the price starts going back up you could invest the rest of your money.
1896  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to recover btc after windows reinstall on: July 15, 2017, 06:38:09 PM
Trouble is that it by default places the Bitcoin folder in c which is 250GB and there is only 70GB of space left. I copied the second wallet dat file onto the same usb stick as the first i recovered and had to name it differently.

If you don't have enough hard drive space try extracting your private keys from Bitcoin core, installing the electrum wallet, then importing the private keys into it. These instructions explain how to do it.

Search for all the Bitcoin addresses that Bitcoin-QT shows on this website. That site will tell you if an address contains Bitcoins.

http://blockchain.info/

To view the addresses in Bitcoin-QT click "file" in the menu, then click "receiving addresses" in the drop down list that appears.

If blockchain.info shows an address contains coins you can either wait for up to a week for Bitcoin-QT to sync, or use a different wallet to spend them immediately.

If you want fast access to your Bitcoins you need to extract their private keys from Bitcoin-QT, then import those private keys into alternative wallet software like electrum.

To extract the private keys click "help" in the Bitcoin-QT menu, then click "debug window" in the drop down list that appears.

Click the tab labelled "console" in the debug window that appears.

Type dumpprivkey, then a space, then your Bitcoin address in the text box at the bottom of the console window. This is an example.

dumpprivkey 1Cgu5PQyTYrZn4VtAs2T1FHf1ayXVYHNDt

Afterwards press your enter key to view the private key for your Bitcoin address. There's an example private key (L4RY4tv1Qpr4FVxtSLnr7vJiUCvk7A7C2Cd6M7QSU2BkRtj9vhnd) shown in the screenshot.

Copy the private key, then download and install the electrum wallet from here.

https://electrum.org/#download

After installing electrum you can either import or sweep your private keys into it using these instructions.

http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/faq.html#can-i-import-private-keys-from-other-bitcoin-clients

I have tried another recovered wallet.dat file and it hasn't crashed. If there are some coins in it, how long would they take to show up. Thanks.

It could take a long time, you have to wait for core to sync before you can see balances.

Check all the addresses that core shows in a block explorer like this one. If an address contains coins the block explorer will immediately tell you.

https://blockchain.info/
How much hd space does it require to fully sync?. Also does it matter that I renamed folder to wallet.dat2.

Bitcoin.org recommends having 145 GB of spare HD space. Which folder did you rename to wallet.dat2?

By default Bitcoin core looks for a wallet.dat file in a folder named Bitcoin that's inside a hidden folder named appdata.

It always drops harder then it rises

True, but it does not go back from where it started. Even though it dropped harshly, it is still higher from the level it started climbing. Have you looked at the charts? The price is going upward (average, except the recent drop). The best and appropriate for this is "when it drops hard, it will rise harder."

You know what, I can see kwukduck in a 2017Bubble Grin

Last summer's ATH was $800 and this summer's ATH has been $3000 so far. If it always drops harder then it rises this summer's ATH would be below last summer's, not above it. The recent drop was a small correction, which will probably be followed by further ATHs.
1900  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's time to re-invest on: July 15, 2017, 05:50:38 PM
the thing about bitcoin is that you can't speculate about the price based on charts and looking at the market,... it is all the messed up things that are going on all around bitcoin that affects the price. and right now everything depends on the August first and whether or not they split bitcoin.

i say if things go well, without any harm to bitcoin, price will rally; big time.

Bitcoin's price often does the unexpected. IMO it won't fork on August the 1st, but it could its price could start recovering before then. You are not alone in thinking it could rally after August the 1st, and people buying back in long before then could start pumping the price. Anyone who sold on the way up will be looking for a re-entry point now its gone back down, and anything close to $2000 is a great buy in price..
