Yup, someone just put a ~1.5M$ wall at 51$ (28kBTC)

Someone is really hopeful, ain't they?

Or about to dump.  Scare walls work both ways...
1922  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Definition of the term "millibitcent" on: March 25, 2013, 10:01:13 PM
I read in different sources different definitions of the term "millibitcent":

I found definitions of 0.01 BTC, 0.0001 BTC or 0.00000001 as a "millibitcent". There seems to be no consent about the definition of this term.

How is this possible?
When I take the term literally, the only possible definition of "millibitcent" can be
1/1000th ("milli") of 1/100th ("cent") of a bitcoin, i.e. 1 millibitcent = 0.00001 BTC = 1000 Satoshis.

1 bitcent = 0.01 BTC
1 millibitcoin = 1/1000 BTC = 0.001 BTC

Hence
1 millibitcent = 0.00001 BTC

Because
1 something-cent = 1/100 of something
1 milli-something = 1/1000 of something

Correct, millibitcent is a stupid name.

By the time they're done they won't have any money to invest in bitcoins in the first place

http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/03/23/17428178-cyprus-now-looks-to-take-25-percent-from-bank-accounts-of-wealthy

The big money won't come from the cypriots.  The big money will come from the people that don't want to end up like the cypriots.

Just checked the queue, there are 5500 accounts pending verification at this very moment.

If it's not bullish, I don't know what is...

Imho gox fund clearance is holding this rally in check at the moment.
And weekends.

Which is the same thing basically (though not only gox-caused)

What is a ticket exactly?

1928  Economy / Speculation / Re: When the price of Bitcoin rapidly drops I... on: March 24, 2013, 04:03:24 AM
I have yet to try the whole sell high, buy low thing. Maybe that's because I'm more interested in Bitcoin as a technology solution than as a "single stock" speculative game. The few times I've run the numbers of timing it "perfectly" only equalled an extra coin or two. The risk of missing it seems too high, IMO, especially when my goals are to see this disruptive technology change how commerce is done. Being left with some $$$ and having to buy back in at a higher price would suck.

Based on this poll, it seems others think along the same lines as I do.

Lets just hope we won't be stuck with a bunch of digital "coins" with little worth if our disruptive technology simply turns out to be another fad like beanie babies, MySpace or RSS.

(OK, that last comment about RSS was kind of trollish, but you probably smiled)

I am trying the trading game a bit, but honestly, buying and holding (when buying at a good time obviously) is probably much more efficient since you don't have to spend all the time looking at the charts (which I find entertaining ).
1929  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 24, 2013, 02:59:33 AM

It's not the ability of the medium to handle the amount of posts, it's the ability of the human mind to make sense of it. In IRC everyone can basically talk at the same time, in the same area, about various topics, often talking over other people. This problem increases as you add more people to the room. On a forum, multiple threads and the ability to quote allows several people to carry on different conversations at the same time while being able to monitor other conversations as well.

IRC is more chaotic while a forum is more orderly.

This is just my opinion. Don't get your knickers in a bunch over it.

I prefer forum too.

WTF, are you serious?  ZH posters are losing more and more crediblity in my book.
1931  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Enthusiasts, We Need to Have a Serious Discussion about Malware on: March 24, 2013, 01:50:29 AM

There are hardware wallet projects ongoing.  Very important development imho.  Hope we get enough people soon to get them into 'mass' production so they can become cheap.
1932  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 24, 2013, 01:45:18 AM
its all about buy/ask. doesn matter if it stock or bitcoin
Oh, you newbs. You're quite hilarious sometimes.

right, because human emotions change dramatically when its about bitcoin instead of stock.....   Roll Eyes
1933  Economy / Speculation / Re: How does it feel to sell 10-20 kBTC in low 50's couple of hours ago? on: March 23, 2013, 05:24:58 PM
Something happens in 24 hours......

The supply from mining is going to drop by almost 1/3.  Right now the supply is unusually high do to many ASIC rigs coming online and those people are selling right away to pay for the rigs.

The price will probably go back up 10-20 hours after the difficulty change.

Is that so, isn't the network made such that the btc supply is constant, no matter how much hashing power there is, ie. 1 new block giving 25 btc on avg. every 10th minute ?

Difficulty only resets after 2016 blocks.
1934  Economy / Speculation / Re: I am about to do something massivley stupid on: March 23, 2013, 05:06:52 PM
You gave me extremely risk-averse advice. The kind that I mentioned is one of the reasons so much of our country's old people depend on social programs to survive. The difference between your advice and mine is yours comes from the popularly accepted "common sense," and mine is what wealthy people (millionaires) do and recommend (and often write about).

Strong risk-taking combined with skill and luck results in millionaires.
Strong risk-taking combined with stupidity or very bad luck results in hobos or window-jumpers (unless you know how to game the system, then it results in a banker).

That's my simple take on it.
1935  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 23, 2013, 04:43:18 PM
Everyone is so impatient on the dips to see what can happen next. Always playing for pennies.

What do you mean?

What I mean is that you can't shake out the weak hands by being ravenous on the dips.  Take two breaths and don't hit buy.......yet. Wink

You mean you want to see bigger dips?   I am sure we'll see them in the future...

Maybe....Let it play out more is my want.  There is no need for the bounce to be within minutes of the dip unless you are panicking.

This is the play.  Reality is the ongoing experiment.
1936  Economy / Speculation / Re: When the price if Bitcoin rapidly drops I... on: March 23, 2013, 04:21:14 PM
...wait for it to drop even lower.  Seriously, look at the charts.  We're headed much, much lower.  Optimistically we'll stop in the teens, but we could easily go into the single digits again.

Can you be more specific? Link me to a chart you're talking about?

You have just met Proudhon, our resident perma-bear.
He has thus far had an uncanny track record of predicting bitcoin prices, as long as you reverse everything he says.

this guy is not a joke but lol that he sold and thinks he can talk the market down. Have a good life as a bear.

Maybe he just did some short-term trading?
