I don't trust 'him' without a properly signed message from one of his various bitcoin address or his PGP key.

1983  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Brain wallet - "used" and "unused" adress on: August 16, 2015, 04:08:10 PM
I am pretty sure that I cannot remember 12 words randomly chosen (that is why I wrote them on paper),

Then this is not a "brainwallet".

As long as your 12 words were truly randomly chosen, and you didn't add any personal bias into the decision, it should be at least as safe as the paper.

I don't agree with this definition.  to me a brain wallet is any wallet that can be accessed using a passphrase. iow, the private keys or an input to get the private keys is stored in ones brain.  regardless of whether the passphrase was computer generated or human generated, they are both brain wallets.

Then to you, every encrypted wallet is a brain wallet, including Bitcoin Core. It's called a "brain" wallet because the private key is stored in your brain.

+1 ,  it seems he (@jonald_fyookball) doesn't understand but it is easy.

You should have a brain and you should store the 'key or passphrase' in it, if you store it on a piece of sheat that  you ***  up all the purpose.

huh?  the fact that it's written on a paper has nothing to do with it.  Some people only call it a brain wallet if you chose the passphrase (but not me)

Oh, I thought you were one of them. it is named BrainWallet for a reason.

PS: sorry If I seem arrogant, I didn't want Wink.

So how do we know which exchanges and merchants are on which chain?

I support larger block sizes but this is a shitshow

Two chains can't co-exist for very long. If >75% have already chosen XT then the others will have to jump chain. Basically.

I personally lean towards XT because I find it a better solution than devs' deadlock, but I would have preferred BIP100 or some other solution.

Not exactly, they can also abandon bitcoin and move on (another project).
1986  Other / Meta / Re: the difference between the Bitcoin-XT client and Bitcoin-XT network/currency on: August 16, 2015, 02:50:29 PM

This is because the staff consider the bitcoin-XT currency to be an altcoin
They are correct. Bitcoin XT is not altcoin yet, but will be when hardfork of bitcoin will inevitably occur as a result of larger block size accepted in future!

Exactly. So why censor it now? Right now I can download the Bitcoin-Xt client, import my wallet from Bitcoin Core and spend my coins at merchants that use Bitcoin Core. So obviously isn't an altcoin client right now, its a usable Bitcoin client just like any other. Doesn't make sense to censor it now becuase it will become an altcoin client in the future.

Just to note by they way that my opinion is that I am for larger blocks (or a abolition of a blocksize limit altogether). However I am totally against Bitcoin-XT and they way certain developers are trying to change the blocksize. People are being mislead into believing Bitcoin-XT is different from any other altcoin such as litecoin, it really isn't different. I also think that they should remove the "bitcoin" part from the name as this is a huge part of the confusion. Mark Karpeles used to own the trademark for the term "Bitcoin" in the US I believe, maybe he should have his lawyers look into the misuse of this trademark.

Nobody prevents you for making your own forum and call it bitcoinXTtalk.org.

Then can you freely discuss bitcoin XT and move all the threads about bitcoin into the altcoin section.

Untill then, please keep the talk about bitcoin XT outside the bitcointalk.org forum.
Thanks.

I can't understand why? if bitcoinXT is an alt ... then it is still possible to discuss about it here (bitcointalk.org). Sincerely BitcoinXT is like Fedoracoin during the Litcoin 'fork'.

I woke up to see the mess in https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/. I agree with Gavin and Mike, let the community decide.

How? In the end its just the handful of pools who will decide.

Without  x BitcoinXT nodes I think their choice is 'useful',  who is who is broadcasting the TX through the network?

*x , number.
1989  Other / Meta / Re: Thank you moderators! on: August 16, 2015, 01:07:29 PM
Is there a safe-haven for us sane people?

Right now reddit is full of posts of people "switching to XT so they can vote". They think that if 75% of nodes switch, then the trigger will happen.

When in actual fact it's 75% of the hashpower, 75% of the blocks, and who controls the blocks? the mining pools.

So only mining pool owners are allowed participate in this "vote" that these complete buffoons claim is being "censored".

Literally these dudes are looking at charts of the number of XT nodes waiting for it pass 75%.

I feel like I'm losing my mind here.

75 % of the latest 1k blocks should be 'mined' using bitcoinXT, after that thing the fork could happen.

Bump, if you want a loan request it here.

Thanks for the attention.
1991  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 16, 2015, 12:53:14 PM
Disappointing that we've dropped below 260 USD. I can't see any reason for it other than people selling because they're worried about this potential fork. I don't trust Hearn one bit & it's pissing me off that one man & his little scheme seems to be having an effect on the price.

The beauty is that you don't need to trust him, just look at the code, if you like it switch to XT, if not do nothing. If the fork actually happens, it would have seem that more people liked his proposal the most.

If consensus can't be reached amongst devs, this is a perfect solution to let people decide.

It is obvious that it is impossible to reach a consensus of 100% , the remaining part will join or abandon btc.
1992  Economy / Auctions / Re: Advertise on this forum - Round 155 on: August 16, 2015, 12:44:22 PM
2 @ 2
3 @ 2.1
1 @ 2.05
4 @ 2.1
I think, all further bids including those listed above will be counted as invalid as they were posted after August 15, 2015, the auction end date accourding to OP.
- I will end the auction at an arbitrary time no more than 12 days from now. (I will probably end the auction 1-3 days before the ads are scheduled to go up.)
12 days starting from August 4, 2015 is August 15, 2015.

Theymos decides when to end the auction. I assume he likes to stretch it out a little sometimes to squeeze a little more BTC out of people. Tongue

No I think he took a *hiatus or maybe doesn't have an internet connection.   *from bitcointalk, reddit etc...
1993  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has NOT forked, calm down and don't spread misinformation on: August 16, 2015, 12:39:34 PM
If there were Bitcoin police him and the XT people would be the #1 suspects for the mass spam attack. Never gonna be able to prove it 100% cause I'm sure they know how to remain completely anonymous.

Fortunately the mass spam attack didn't hurt anyone so it's not a big deal. Actually provided good data that substantiated the consensus we don't need bigger blocks.

Think at this scenario :

After the next bitcoin halving the block reward will be 12,5 BTC , so 1/2 . Add to the halving a spam TX attack made by someone who have a lot or (don't have) of btc.

A catastrophe or what?
1994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Brain wallet - "used" and "unused" adress on: August 16, 2015, 12:34:55 PM
If you are concerned about security...

DO NOT CREATE A BRAINWALLET.

Your bitcoins will be FAR more vulnerable in a brainwallet than any concern you may have about the public key being exposed.
I dont think my brainwallet will be exposed.

My passphrase is composed of 24 words : 12 words randomly chosen in a 15000 words dictionary (writen on a paper in three differents locations) + a more personal phrase composed of 12 words (not written on paper because I cant forget it).

Are you sure? You should improve your security...
1995  Other / Meta / Re: Thank you moderators! on: August 16, 2015, 12:31:45 PM
Not sure if you've seen the Bitcoin Discussion section of the forum buddy but it's littered with XT cheerleader threads & pro Hearn propoganda. Starting to piss me off having to wade through all of the shit to be honest.

Did you see also on  /r/Bitcoin/ ?
1996  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has NOT forked, calm down and don't spread misinformation on: August 16, 2015, 12:26:04 PM
Let's not forget that the bitcoin core developers excommunicated Gavin for being a selfish nutcase. Now he is trying to destroy bitcoin with outright terrorism via month long transaction spam attacks and declaring Bitcoin is forked when he does not have the ability to do so. He's causing the entire bitcoin community to lose money just because he is butthurt

Please back up your claim with evidence about gavin being the culprit behind the recent spam attack on the bitcoin network.

Otherwise please STFU  Grin

thanks
I know it was him and the BitcoinXT crew, they were trying to prove Bitcoin needs bigger blocks and failed miserably. He is so desperate at this point it is amusing.

The only thing Gavin destroyed was his reputation and credibility. Maybe he should do something useful and terrorize Dogecoin.

Man this is pure FUD! Either you can prove that Gavin was behind those spam attacks, which highly doubt you can, or this whole statement is not more than just bs.
Furthermore as far as I know it's only the blockstream guys who are against an blocksize increase.

Do you mean these guys?

I 'dislike' primedice because there are a lot of beggars and I like it (at the same time) due the minimal 'graphic'.

Maybe the next time I should write something like : I love primedice, PD is the best crypto-dice in the world.

I am not contesting nothing, only wrote my opinion (their money their choice).

4) Post in 3 or 4 sentences why you LIKE or DISLIKE Primedice compared to other dice sites

Do you need a translator to realize that you didn't even make a qualifying entry ?

Indeed I am not contesting their decision Wink , I wrote only my opinion. I am not angry , congratulation again to the winners.

Is the dropping price a reflection of the fork issue, the supposed Satoshi email, all the ETH profits cashing out, or maybe a mixture of the three?

It's not an issue... it is like : more competition = a better service.  Sooner or later the block size should be increased. The speculation can't do nothing in this case....
