Now, space elevators are another topic. We don't have the materials right now but fun stuff like if one collapsed, it would wrap around the world a couple of times (IIRC).

the circumference of earth is 24k miles. a space elevator woiuld need to be up probably 22k-26k miles. i guess it depends if this wrap would follow a circumference line or a smaller one. nice problem to think about. thx.

well not if youre in its path when it falls heh

as someone mentioned larry niven has written about them, both in essays and in his fiction. anything by him is good reading.

I actually calculated how to build a space elevator for fun but it boils down to the following.

Nanofibers aren’t strong enough to bridge the 32000km to geostationary orbit.
The weight of the fiber itself will snap it. Yes taking account the gravity but ignoring weather.
To do it you would need to go from thick(up in space, low grav) to thin(earth) to pull it off.

The smallest configuration with 1mm^2 coming down from space will take approx two full Falcon heavies (largest rocket) with spools of fiber into geostationary orbit. Glueing the fibers in space is hard. Generating the fibers in space might be better.

You need a counterweight to stop it all coming down to earth  Roll Eyes

You need anchor it on the equator.

Then you need to do above process a dozen to a few hundred times before you can send any payload or human into space.

Going to geostationary orbit at 100km/hr would take 320hrs so the trip would take 2 weeks going straight up Grin

Use the two Falcon heavies as the counterweight.  Just slide back down the rope.

Before you noodle too hard, I very well may be misremembering. It's a fair distance anyway though.

i was serious. it could wrap around the earth several times as long as it does not wrap around "straight" at a "equatorial" line. in what fashion would it wrap around? can someone elaborate? would a cable attached to a spinning sphere always wrap around an "equatorial" line? or could it also use other latitudes?

edit: i think you thought i was being sarcastic with the "nice problem to think about.thx" but i wasn´t. sorry for not making that clearer.

The tether is really long.  It could wrap anywhere.

Ive been wanting to take time off but I cant until my exit, bounce buy, bounce sell, and re-entry from the crash

You are assuming you will be able to exit at the top.... how?
Trailing stop, or something like that. Right now I keep manually adjusting my stop to important levels I know would not be good to break like right now it is 18500.

Even if I miss it it'll still create huge waves I'll be able to trade and waves in altcoins that I can margin trade regardless of my position.

Lack of Tera2 in this thread is approaching distressing levels. Who will make the topcall within 5% ??

I miss Tera.  I learned a lot from her / him.

Strangely enough, about a week before the Thai navy came after us a friend of mine told me that he has had friends killed who were trying to create technology to go into space.

Mainstreaming space will definitely open a can of worms and rock a few boats.

One eye opening thing I was told is...whoever controls Earth's orbit, controls access to space for all humans. And eventually the whole world.

This is a good point. Never thought about that.

Dip order @ $44k got filled. Nice.

Yup. Picked some up at $44 & $43k. Have some down in $42k as well.

Hi, a long time without publishing here, for my part everything is fine, but with many open fronts in work life, I hope to return soon when everything stabilizes.
Hugs.

Craig Wright probably timed his law suit against the Core developers to try to crash the market, but badger don’t care.

Blocktards are not arguing in good faith.  No need to engage with them, the market has already decided.

I did another round of rigorous confirmed calculations this morning based on the best math and science and I can confirm that the irrational exuberance is over and we are entering the final and most dismal correction.

Can confirm.  The price is dismally correcting up.

These people who sell are always a step ahead. After 8 years of hodling I was ready to sell my first small amount BTC (not the one I bought Oct 2020) at $59444. And they knew many people will sell at 59k ish so they started the sell off at 57k  Roll Eyes Now I will rethink if I sell below $99k  Cool

How about don't sell at all. At these price levels, there are ways to make an income of 10s of thousands USD a month on your exsisting stash without selling. This applies to stashes under 10 BTC too. Life is good at these levels.

Fuck third-party custody, if you are considering or enticed by anything that involves that.

There are some concepts in bitcoin.. the real deal bitcoin, that incentives are built in, so bitcoin is already designed to increase in value.. .what the fuck more do you need, you greedy fucks (#nohomo) who may well be seriously considering placing your coins with some stupid-ass service trying to claim legitimacy and enticing you with supposed "passive income" .. blah blah blah..

Did I say, "fuck that?"  Don't be fucking trying to short-cut your BTC accumulation goals by thinking that you can "make money" using convoluted (surprise terms) contracts when if you accumulate adequately, then you will have way more options just living off the likely ongoing BTC price appreciation that has no real signs of stopping, even though it it is likely to continue to have up and down cycles along the way.. and you can take advantage of that in your long term planning and your refusal to take stupid-ass shortcuts that may well end up screwing you out of your coins by hook or by crook or just by bad luck (such as great price moves that liquidate you out of your supposed collateral that you were not able to adequately cover because you were to fucking busy gambling out of greed).

You will thank me later, even if you might not be able to measure what you are thanking me for, exactly...  Wink

The thing you fail to grasp is that by selling covered call options to fund my lifestyle and purchases I will not be reducing my stack, In fact it will even help me accumulate more then I could before. What's more, I don't have to risk keeping my BTC on the exchange to still have it fully cover my calls. I can use margin so that those coins are kept in my own wallet (not the exchange). A little diversification is not a bad thing, especially when you don't have to sell BTC from your stack to do it.

I think the trouble some of you have with this may be a lack of understanding/experience with derivatives in general. I can get almost 10% per month with covered calls, and my counter-party exchange risk is reduced by using margin. Yes its slightly risky, yes you might miss out on some capital gains, but in the long term it will do pretty fucking well. I’ve done covered calls among other options strategies for years in the legacy markets and I can tell you right now these premiums are amazing in comparision.

Thank you? your kidding right? If I had listened to you my stack would have been reduced substantially with your constant insistence of selling BTC on the way up. Now that's a stupid strategy. I can assure you my stack will be much larger at 200k then it is now. The only people to thank around here are the ones that tell you to never sell any of your BTC, unless there is an emergency.

I can assure you that if Bitcoin goes to $500k this year, your stack will be smaller than it is today.  And you will be left trying to buy back $500k Bitcoins with $200k (or $203.5k if you count the premium).

Yes you can win 9/10 but when you lose, you lose big.

Writing insurance against the Bitcoin price going up in the biggest bull market the world has ever seen is a shitty idea.

If you have at least double the btc you need to attain your objective, why not earn 4.5% on your btc with half, or even 1/10th?

Because I'd rather not wake up to find half my stash has been goxxed?

Fucking A.  Not enough people remember Bitcoin Savings & Trust.

I’m having a bit of a mental struggle..

How much should I be kicking myself in the ass for not accumulating more, VS how thankful am I for having accumulated what I have and for the most part held..

Thankful or regretful?

When the crypto world changed around 2017 I got lazy and stopped accumulating..
Since then, my methods of accumulation have become almost impossible..

I’m almost afraid to go back to it..
Do I still have it in me? Can I even do it legally? All that paperwork and accounting they require now?
I SHOULD but I just can’t bring myself to it..
Shit, I can barely bring myself to even move coin anymore..

You can always mine. It still produces meaningful amount of coins.
Requires a leap of faith, though, in purchasing the miner and either sticking it in the basement or arranging for hosting.
I am surprised that this method of DCAing is not much discussed here even though it is VASTLY more profitable as a DCA method during bull runs since your purchase price is rising only with difficulty rising, NOT with btc price rising. Difficulty rise was not exponential (16T to 22T) during the last 12mo.

Hmmm tempting if you frame it as buying for 1 - 2 cycles ahead.  I’m thinking of putting more solar on anyway.

Plus the CNN narrative and choir are not going to very warm towards bitcoin.  We might as well get used to hearing that it is white supremacy, toxic male, environmental disaster tulips.  I will eat my shoe if they present it a different way.

Well, how do we get ourselves out there as more accurate sources of information. I understand that in the "penny paper" dot.com information economy what sells is salacious crap as opposed to facts, but we should be trying for just a BIT more accuracy.

Maybe we need someone as an interesting spokesman. Maybe a flaming gay rich bitcoin dude building Rancho Apocalypse II to catch peoples' attention but then saying basic facts and truths about what bitcoin is, how it works, etc?

Or someone driving around the country buck naked in a top notch Lambo at 55mph. That would probably garner some attention, bring the click shit to CNN and allow a more rational discussion.

Hm....

... or a mature musician with properties in Mexico shopping for a private lake in his native Canada?

...or Elwar's story...

If I get nothing else out of this Bitcoin thing, I will be proud to have known Elwar, if only digitally.

Red sunday incoming

Maybe...  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes

Maybe not... Smiley

For now it holds tight but loose. Tongue

It could go for a 2-3 day period of "crash"-ing back to 55K ... Cheesy Cheesy

But I do have a strong urge to sell all my bitcoins and start buying sh!tcoins with both hands. Cheesy  Roll Eyes Shocked  Roll Eyes Shocked  Roll Eyes Cheesy  Huh  Huh

Dude all the shitcoins get ground into the dirt by Bitcoin in the long run.  Don’t waste your time.

I don't know man.... Its just u'r opinion. .................... But long story short, as I had a tingly feeling from my "spider senses" about bitcoin in December 2009, I have a "spider sense" now about bitcoin. Cheesy Cheesy

I joined the cult because I wanted to stick it to the banks. But now that the banks like bitcoin. I just want to move to another coin and force the banks to throw money at those coins all over again till they like those, and then I move to another one. <3 <3 <3 ...  Cheesy  Cheesy  Cheesy

*edit(): The banks make it feel like an worn down, overused whore.   Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes

It’s nice that you want that, but the banks aren’t going to give a fuck about anything except Bitcoin. God knows XRP tried for 8+ years and got nowhere.

For anyone considering selling covered calls, just keep in mind this could be a very expensive decision

There is an outside chance that Bitcoin could go to crazy number this year.  A $3.5k payment for giving away all the upside on a $200k sale in December 21 may not be a very good deal at all. It’s only a good deal if you are happy selling at $200k no matter what.  Because the price could be $500k at that time. In that scenario, you just lost $296.5k in value.
