If only the price could be a steady march the way the development of the ecosystem is. Humans have to continually over react one way then over react back the other way then overreact the first way again and on and on...

You know you're dumpster diving for pro-bitcoin propaganda when you pretend irrelevant taco countries are the shining city on a hill that's going to bring humanity into the future.  INB4, but r0ach, some random guy from Argentina nobodys ever heard of did so and so.  Those people are descended from white Euros from Spain you assholes.  They aren't even taco people.

Taco countries. Haha. I don't care what anyone says. You are an asset to this community.

He's correct the level of journalism in this space is on par with straight bloggers.

It only appears that way because this happens to be a niche that you are particularly educated on. It's the same for every other subject too. Remember this when you are listening to "journalism" on some subject you aren't that knowledgeable on. If you were more knowledgeable on that subject it would sound just as bad as it does for the thing you are knowledgeable on.

Yes gold mining decreases every year. It is harder and harder to find gold now. Eventually we will asteroid mine it, but that won't be feasable or cost effective for decades.

I'm not sure that's true.

our calculations point towards gold production peaking at some point between 2022 and 2025

There have only been a few short periods in history where production has declined.

However, we are certainly approaching a period where gold extraction is going to sharply decrease irreversibly for the first time.

at current rates of extraction... known gold reserves worldwide would be depleted in about 17 years.

That's great. So gold is more inflationary than either bitcoin or grin (in the long run) yet it holds it's own just fine. Very cool data. +merit

Is that what brought you back to the forum just now, or is it coincidence?

I came back because I'm interested in grin and was looking for a place to talk to people about it. There is grin-forum but I know everyone here and its more fun here. What might my return be coincidental with, in theory, if you don't mind my asking?

And did you go on hiatus because of the get-rich-quickism?

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking or implying. I went on hiatus because crypto got less interesting when the price was crashing and no new projects were coming out that were catching my interest. Also without the price skyrocketing I found that I kinda needed a real job, so I've been building a real world business. What do you mean by "And did you go on hiatus because of the get-rich-quickism?"?

regarding being unlimited...

compare it to gold, technically you can claim gold is limited but thousands of years back and today we are still mining it, in the future we still are going to mine it, although limited it feels like it is unlimited. we may even mine it outside the earth in the future if we go inter stellar/inter planetary.

if we say that we will mine gold in the whole universe, or just say in our galaxy..what would we say? "that's unlimited"

well we haven't even explored the earth's crust or the earth's mantle and scour the ocean floors for gold mining.

Does the total amount of gold that is mined every year even decrease? I wouldn't be surprised to learn that on average it stays pretty constant. Less and less available but better and better tech to extract it every year.

I'm struggling to understand the compatibility of the MimbleWimble backbone + unlimited supply:

For a potential "everyday use" cryptocurrency that dominates the global economy, I think some rate of inflation/emission is 100% necessary.

But I don't think Grin is trying to be that with the way everything else is situated. The elimination of denominations and addresses makes this currency fundamentally difficult to interact with. I also think an inherently private coin would be incompatible with the role of worldwide day-to-day use.

I don't see any other situation for Grin or any crypto where unlimited supply is a good thing to have. What's the justification?

I don't think they want people to speculate and hoard this currency. I think they want to avoid the criticisms of bitcoin being all held in massive amounts by early adopters. They want it to be for spending and pricing, for real world use. It probably will be more stable than other cryptos in a few years. Perhaps just gradually decreasing in value a little bit every year for the foreseeable future.

As for it being too hard to use, well yes it certainly is right now, but I mean

Of course it's going to be rough. There is no reason why it can't progress in an ever more user friendly direction from here moving forward. It could be pretty easy. Imagine if grin in the future had a built in DHT. There would be no need to configure anything, as long as your wallet was running it could receive. And a company that owed you payment could ping you every few minutes for as long as it took at trivial cost. And the ability to send funds through email could actually be really convenient when it's not so rough around the edges. I'm thinking drag and drop from email or other source into the wallet and done.

We will see. I'm here because this is something real. It's not a get rich quick hype coin. It's real, new, innovative technology. We only see that every few years in this space if we are lucky. I will always come back to be a part of it every time it turns up. And I expect I will see a lot of the cool familiar faces here or elsewhere when I do, time and time again.

*update* well I'm way past 5 now and no payout so not sure...

I am running into the same problem: threshold reached, payout is showing in the Payouts tab but TXID shows Unpaid.
And obviously I did not get anything on my wallet.
This is my first payout so I dont really know what to expect.

They attempted to pay out but I had the address formatted wrong. Presumably if it had been formatted correctly I would have my grin now. As I understand it they are actually processing payments by hand. So they will just try to send your grin once per day, when ever you come up in the queue, as long as you are above the threshold.

Will report back with a further update once I actually have my hands on my grin.

https://blog.f2pool.com/en/mining-tutorial-en/grin_payout_en

I'm kinda bummed there isn't just a basic payout script unless I am completely retarded and missing something, totally possible.

Yea I mean I read all that and mostly followed the instructions (it was impossible to follow them exactly). It says

when I try to enter it as "<wan_ip_address>:<grin_wallet_listen_port>" in my "account settings > payout settings" it says "Address format incorrect.". So when I enter it as "http://<wan_ip_address>:<grin_wallet_listen_port>" it takes it. But seeing as the wallet listener isn't an http server I'm not hopeful...

So now I'm left with "https://<my_wan_ip>:<grin_wallet_listen_port>" saved in there, even though that's technically not how grin addresses are supposed to be formatted, but it's the only thing it will take, and no information saying if it pays out automatically or if I'm supposed to find something to initiate a withdrawal. But if it's the latter I can't find that thing so I'm guessing it's automatic. But if it's automatic I'm above the threshold so I assume it's on a timer?

*update*

Okay now it shows an attempt to pay to "https://<my_wan_ip>:<grin_wallet_listen_port>" with "TXID" "unpaid".

Can anyone make a trade with me? I want 3 grins for bitcoin, I will send first. I will not trade with random accounts, only the trusted people with or without a positive rating.

I am going to start helping out everyone I can with sending them small bits of grin to start out with, JUST AS SOON AS I CAN GET A FEW OF MY OWN.

I have 6.3 grin on f2pool but no idea how to get f2pool to pay out. I can't find a button on the website anywhere for withdrawal. I'm thinking it just does it automatically, but when? If anyone has any experience with f2pool please let me know.

Yea the steady supply thing is a no brainier to me. Make sure that miners are always compensated. And some day the inflation will drive the price of the marginal unit down low enough that human carelessness equalizes with the emmission curve and a more or less equal amount of grin is created as is lost to carelessness. In the long run you end up with a world where all of the value that is lost due to carelessness is what is used to finance the security of the chain, that plus transaction fees. It's kind of abstract but if you allow the logic to flow...

Also it's nothing like central banking. They create more and more currency every year not a steady amount that is the same year on year.

hello again Anon136. I asked that yesterday and the answer is kinda 'not realistically' https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5090427.msg49340719#msg49340719
at least not till we get proper internets which to my mind means probably never but to some may mean 'any minute now'
or we get magic processors

So are we supposing that this project can still have real value to the world at 15tx/s?

I'm trying to mine grin with rented miners and I keep getting this message.

I have tried f2pool, btc.com and grinmint, and looked for settings to change this on all three, but to no avail. Anyone else having it? Anyone know how to fix it?
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: F2Pool「魚池」🐟 on: January 21, 2019, 08:36:30 PM
Is there a min payout amount for GRIN? How often are the payouts?

I just figured it out. It's 5 grin minimum payout. Make sure your wallet is configured properly.

Code:
nmap -p <wallet_listen_port> <wan_IP_address>

*update* well I'm way past 5 now and no payout so not sure...
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Grin | PoW Mining | Electronic transactions for all. Community driven. on: January 21, 2019, 06:57:05 PM
So here is a question. Is it theoretically possible, allowing for a hard fork or two if necessary, to have the mining pools be required to run on a thick dedicated fiber pipe to process thousands of transactions per second, but have thousands or millions of normal users run hybrid nodes that still store the full blockchain and provably audit part of the activities of the mining pools, such that all of the activities of miners are monitored multiple times over, but each individual auditor isn't required to examine all incoming transactions.

And really don't take the way I worded it too specifically. I'm trying to get at a more general idea. The idea of miners processing more transactions than any one normal user could ever hope to audit while still having all of the activities of the miners audited many many times over by normal users.

Eh. Never mind. The network couldn't rely on some subset checking each transaction. Even if 10% of all users audited a given transaction, what if that 10% didn't report an incongruincy until hours, weeks, or years later? There would be a massive fork. Would you leave the doublespend in? Or roll the chain back who knows how far?

Are there any ideas out there right now about how to scale up the tx/s?

Hey guys what are the known places to invest your earnings to generate more earnings?

Bombshell: purchase a Dash Masternode?
Honestly I know bitcoin is the main investment coin but I definitely love to play around with Proof of Stake coins and Masternodes. There's something that just seems to have so much potential with them.

Right? Take the united states dollar for example. It's a coin that operates on a master-node type system and it currently facilitates like half the commerce on the planet.

Found this on Twitter
Not as simple as it looks alike
Your bets

You have 0 btc left so you don't have any money and if you had made money then you certainly would have at least some.

Do I get a cookie?

I guess I finally capitulated. I selected 6500-7000 in the poll. I've always chosen bullish before this and been wrong so so so many times. Does that mean the price is finally going to rise?
If it makes you feel any better, I selected "$7,000-$7,500".

This has been an awful Bitcorn season.

Not sure what the harvest is gonna be like in December.

>$8,500

Guess I'm hopeless. Smiley

I guess we are still waiting on you to capitulate then, it will rise only after the very last hold out falls.

Hodlers don't capitulate. I think it's possible that if there are enough hodlers, we may not see a textbook capitulation event. Or we've already witnessed it.

I just meant capitulate on the poll. Or are you saying that hodlers don't even do that? If so than I guess I'm not part of the hodlgang any more Cry
