881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 28, 2018, 08:07:00 PM
So the thoughts of 2014 is over! 2018 is gonna be yyyuuuuge.

I dont think the possibility of 2018 to be new 2014 is over. I personally would love for Bitcoin to hang around $10k and Monero around $300 for next half year. Just so all those newcomers that joined crypto to make fast profit sell. and All other newcomers that joined crypto to learn something have time to actually learn something. And that they have some time to accumulate something before next leg up.

But this are just my hopes, nothing to do with reality.

Seems like a good time to accumulate. How many others are accumulating?
I'm accumulating too but don't have that much to spend unfortunately.

Yep I'm back in the market and it feels good. Taking some profits from another successful venture and plowing them into monero.

Is anyone else seeing this? https://www.binance.com/tradeDetail.html?symbol=IOTA_BTC Holy mother of support walls. Someone just put in a 400,000 buy order not at some far off price but at the current price. If this dude is serious I think we are about to see a trend reversal. Hold onto your butts boys.
883  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: January 26, 2018, 03:02:59 PM

Oh hell yes. I am totally going to run that in the back ground for as long as it doesn't cause me any noticeable inconvenience.

*Edit* The the ability to control the throttle and the number of threads I can just adjust it if its causing inconvenience. What a cool service!
884  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 25, 2018, 07:17:59 PM
Folks, I believe Monero but I also believe Assian markets are the most significant markets for Monero demand. China banned something, South Kore is also talking about a regulation. How willl these things affect Monero's price?

I'm pretty sure Monero will rise up hard with the market demand very soon! Thanks for your time.

Monero will almost certainly be made illegal in many countries in the future and it will probably negatively effect the price. However, this probably will not happen until after the price rises significantly first.

Code:
Please re-do the reclaim process

have done reclaim again days ago

xx-times reattach
(reattach.online too)

but first adress never got confirmed...
what to do?
 Huh

Go here and find a better node to connect to. I like one with a little bit of load but not so much that it isn't still rated a 10. Rattach and promote with using the new node.

Look at this 1200 monero buy order on binance. https://www.binance.com/tradeDetail.html?symbol=XMR_BTC It completely dominates the orderbook. I've been hanging out on binance for a while and this is the fist time I've seen anything quite like it.

So that is a big order size there?  It is interesting that someone willing to drop so much at once just does one large order.

Looking at hitbtc which has the highest volume right now it looks like it would be a very big order even over there. There are a few orders that size at really low prices. You know people just dreaming. But nothing like that anywhere near the margin.

Maybe the prospect of liquidity attracts a certain type of seller?

I'll leave it to you guys to see if you can make anything useful of it. I just thought it was interesting.

Yeah that, tomorrow new system, different hoops . Just like real work. Bastardrs.

I still haven't found another exchange to use, any recommendations? they are either all KYC or scammy afaik. I'll probably just say fuck it and just use shapeshift and hold when I get back in. Looks like the days of having fun playing the market are over. Sad

What about bitsquare?

This was one of the most exciting projects in the bitcoin space a couple of years ago then it just died. http://www.othercoin.com/OtherCoin.pdf

Quote
OtherCoin is an off-chain Bitcoin payment system based on a tamper-resistant smartcard in microSD form factor. OtherCoin works by securely generating, storing and transmitting Bitcoin private keys between parties. Private keys are never revealed to either the sender or the receiver, they can either be used directly in the Bitcoin protocol to sign transactions or securely transmitted to another OtherCoin user. Each OtherCoin smartcard guarantees that the key has either been securely generated by itself or has been received over a secure channel from a similar OtherCoin, with the same restrictions.

I haven't heard anyone talk about it in ages. I think it was a little before it's time. Bitcoin hadn't run into its scaling issues yet and hadn't become generally well known yet either. But maybe it's time has come?

FP specifically has put forward the idea of attacking scaling at all levels and it seems to me that this is a potentially very practical and powerful scaling vector. Additionally it would make many of moneros transactions entirely off chain. This has great implications for privacy. With our funding model we could probably raise the funds necessary to fund the development of some sort of open source application specific hardware device for this sort of thing if a knowledgeable hardware guy were to avail himself.

Mostly I just thought it would be cool if I could kick off a discussion about this proposal. Get it back in the public consciousness. More specifically into the Monero community consciousness. What are your thoughts dear reader?

Ooooh - I've just noticed I'm now a "Senior" member.

I feel...well...inexplicably chuffed.

Congrats. Now can you make it to legendary?

*edit* I forgot about the "hero member" designation in between. A while to go yet I suppose Cheesy

I am interested in buying monero in bulk off exchange so that I don't push the price around. If anyone is interested in selling whisper me.

Also if anyone knows of a thread that is intended for this purpose please do tell.
893  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: January 14, 2018, 02:26:15 AM
it's two different privacy aspects: who sends a money and how much.
it's overlapped on one.

Sender, amount and receiver are all opaque. This is not an implication that is spun out of the idea that senders are obfuscated but actually a separate technology. Ring signatures are used to obfuscate senders while one time addresses anonymize receivers.
by opaque you mean that you can see smth derived from their public keys (called address). And what?
that's second aspect

I mean that one can not determine the identity of the sender or the receiver or the amount that was sent.

How to get rich as a "public servent": Place leveraged short. Announce phony ban. Place leveraged long positions. Rescind the aforementioned announcement. Rake profits into Monero so no one will ever be the wiser. Retire early.

What are the best practices regarding reattaching and rebroadcasting? I have been waiting about 2 hours between reattaching and promoting but just cant seem to get this particular transaction to confirm.

Most important thing is a healthy node. You can look for them here: https://iota.dance/nodes. Then reattach/promote every 30min.

Thanks for the advice.

*edit* wow confirmed first try after switching to healthier node!

contains facilities that automatically deposit Monero to a wallet associated with North Korea’s Kim Il Sung University.

The first instance I have seen of the exploitation of the vulnerability that sub-addresses is intended to fix. We can't get sub addresses soon enough.

All this recent negativity just freak me out a bit. It is like the magic 1k gap is getting further and further away

There are no straight paths to the moon.

Somebody was talking that there will be xmr hard fork already on 15th january. Is there any link for that?

There is a routine hard fork every 6 months though.

This is very interesting. This is the first time I heard about this. This tells me the devs are foregoing short term convenience and are taking the hard road of making Monero better and better.

There is a big focus on the privacy and the features but I think this is actually one of the coolest and most over-looked aspects of this project. It was done to avoid the sort of governance gridlock problems that bitcoin has. It was pretty experimental at the time but so far it's working really well. Monero is actually adaptable. We used to have a block time of 1 minute. But after collecting actual real world data over a period of time it was determined that this was too fast. No problem for monero. The switch to 2 minute blocks went off without a hitch. Can you imagine doing that with bitcoin? And that's a pretty superficial example. Big changes too like Ring-CT and bulletproofs and maybe sidechains someday are also no problem.
