An early application for lightning network could be separating captchas from web security. So basically a website could say, as an anti spam measure we need you to pay 100 satoshi to access this web page. People instantly declare "that's really unfair I don't have any satoshi" so also on that same page could be a link to a website that pays satoshi for correctly solved captchas. You would still need to solve the same amount of captchas as before, nothing really feels any different, except that if you don't want to deal with that bs and you already have some satoshi you can go ahead and pay instead. And it's worth it to ai researchers to pay out some satoshi to have people solve those captchas for them, they need that data.

How could that ever make you the last one laughing? Unless you are selling each time and rebuying back in lower. Taking profits is great, as long as you have preset price targets you are happy with. I think most old timers have a target they want to hit and wait patiently for it. Some of course will never sell. I don’t think most holders panic on the way down. Why would they start now after years of not doing so.
I guess maybe what's different this time is that a lot of people will be going from being rich to not. When your 100,000 dollars went down to 10,000 dollars it's just meh. When your 10 million goes down to 1 million, that's... harder. |

You’re joking right? Why would someone holding since $1,$10 or $100 sell now? Because they could be as rich as they feel that they need to be at 6000 but maybe not at 1000? It was just a question... I don't watch this thing 24/7 like some people. What? You’ve been around for years. You are an old timer. You just trolling? You say it like it's a crazy question but even if not yet I bet some people start to crack at <3000 for sure. What? You know the routine. If they didn’t crack at $150 then they aren’t cracking at $3000. Where’d you crack at? I don't think I'm what you would call a hodler. I always take profit at new all time highs. I took profit at 1000 when it ran up to 1200 and 2000 when it ran up to 3000 and 17000 when it ran up to 20000. Big mistakes of course in retrospect but I like to think that I may be the last one laughing in the end. Only time will tell that one though. *edit* I'll say this though. It gives me the luxury of feeling ok right now. The habitual taking of profit gives me the ability to stay calm, if I was a no compromise holder than there would probably be a point at which I would crack, but because I always take profit I would probably ride this wave all the way to 0 with what I have if it really came to that. |

Hodling I only ever sell at new all time highs*. So, yea, at this point it looks like I'm going to be hodling for a while too... *Except for that time recently when I speculated a little and sold and re bought lower. I did make money but not sure if I'm ever going to try that again though. |

Xmr is the worst performer of the top 20 again today. In fact monero is down from $144.50 aug 29 2017 to $130 today almost a year later. Not looking good guys!

What do you mean by black box? That they won't get any information about your machine? Yes if by "your machine" you mean their machine. I mean they wont know what applications you are running on their hardware. The ISP uses protocols to connect that cannot been hidden and will always share data

...Any conflicting claims on domain space would be resolved by looking at who has the most computationally demanding proof of work (like how the legitimate blockchain is selected in bitcoin). The network would be ad-hock. You could request that your neighbors provide you with any domain records that they have that you don't and you could serve to your neighbors likewise....
Wouldn't this still need to adhere to the longest chain rule? There is no blockchain in the vision I laid out. That is the strength of it. Blockchains are weapons of last resort only to be used in direst of need. I don't think this application requires a blockchain and so that is why I think this idea is superior to namecoin. All of my attempts to do something like this have been deleted in the past. Maybe this one sticks around. Either way I like it. Consider me subbed.

I think it's supposed to be an abject lesson in the dangers of anarchy and thats why it never stays around. As you can see it popped up when the poll popped up in the other thread. No I don't think so. All you have to do is put annoying people on your ignore list. It's like 2 clicks. Pretty easy really. |
