Last night I had dinner with my Icelandic friend who is in South Africa for three months.

He says he hasnt heard of auroracoin since the airdrop.

He bought bitcoin since he has been in South Africa but has no idea how to buy bitcoin in Iceland.

He has never heard of the Auroracoin foundation and is going to try and join when he gets back to iceland.
That is weird. What do you think about Auroracoin foundation?
Does everyone know if the project is still alive or has already died a natural death?

Adamastor is the house troll that tries to delegitimize the use of AUR in Iceland in favor of his own personal goals of using it in South Africa.  Take what he says with a grain of salt.

Hi, My name is Vratislav Boch. I would like to help revive the KDC. I can work for KDC fulltime for free. I work 20 years in marketing. Press, WWW, TV, Social network etc ... I have access to an interesting investment group. I used KDC 4 years ago. You want my help?

When the time comes to market the new changes, that would be awesome.  I'm not a marketing guru.  Hell, I don't even really like social media... so any help later on in these areas would be beneficial.  However, we've got a while to go before we need to start advertising.

I'll circle back around and find you when the time is right.

ok i respect that, any nodes to sync, it stop sync yesterday?

It will keep syncing, don't worry.  The current difficulty algo will take a wild swing down into low difficulty and then someone will insta-mine like 10-20 blocks like nothing, sending the difficulty through the roof.  When this happens, the wallet says the last block was X hours ago because there aren't enough miners to crack those high blocks.  Sometimes it hits a day a more if the swing is bad enough.

All this will be ironed out in any code change we make.  Ultimately, we just need to get off of 4yo code that had no mitigation for ASICs and jump pools.

  ^^ real gold    Cheesy

1000% serious.  I don't know how many times I've heard "we should do this because X coin did this and it's worth Y amount more" ... "we should decrease the total supply/mining rewards" ... "we should implement CPU only algorithms because XMR is blowing up in price" ... "we should get on X exchange because there's a ton more volume and pump groups are there".

I'm not going to implement features just for the end goal of pumping the price.  Any development done by me will be for the sole purpose of making sure the blockchain functions properly, and the coin could be used for whatever end purpose it's going to be used for.

what do you think about masternode? i see for new shitcoin 3btc price, 1 masternode - 1000 coins, so this can pump the price since everyone wants a masternode

I won't entertain development ideas on the grounds of pumping the price.  I'll just go ahead and say this right now... I don't care about the price.  I'd love to cash out of KDC and pay off my house and all my debt, but I'm not going to implement something in the code just for that reason.

Fine for me. Sounds like you know what you are going to do in terms of algo/codebase.

Don't thick Klondike/Gold is a niche-brand when it comes to crypto currencies. Gold stands for value, independence and anonymity, better than national controlled cash. All what crypto currencies want to be. Combining this image with modern technology isn't the worst idea imo.

Would be great if we get somehow access to this thread, github account, website, twitter, FB ... someone tried to contact old devs?

I'd say this was true a year ago when BTC was less than gold.  Now you see stackers selling gold in favor of crypto for long term gains.  Listen, I'm all for keeping the brand if the community wants it, but there needs to be some purpose for it.

I wonder if it KDC would be better served with a POS algo instead.  Then you could "stack" KDC.  I could come up with some interesting mechanics around this.

I've mentioned it before, but I contacted the original dev a couple times in the past, and there was no response.  I'm pretty sure they just don't pay attention to this anymore.  I'm not worried about all the accounts.  When the time comes, we'll have what we need to get going with social media.

The more I think about it, the more I think I want to go the route of using the codebase we use with AUR.  The multi-algo codebase we use has proven solid since we implemented it more than a year ago.  This would allow anyone really to mine KDC, regardless of hardware type.  Additionally, it would be an easy way to transition all of the work we've put in already into place there into this project in a very quick way.

Sounds like most people just want to keep the KDC name, but honestly, I hope there is anyone out there that is really great at marketing and developing the adoption for this micro-niche brand.

If anyone has any objections to the AUR codebase port, let me know.  Otherwise, I'll get started on the change-over.

P.S.- Holy KDC price, Batman.

I really like this coin, but I do not like that it doesn't have a desktop wallet.  I seriously do not trust keeping my coins on any website whatsoever.  Better to be safe than sorry.  Well hopefully we can have one soon.  "This is a good coin tho."

There are local wallets available.  I personally use the freewallet(https://freewallet.io/) for all my day to day coin movement, and it works fine.

I don't think the original intention was to tie it to gold so much (the gold thing on the OP looks gimmicky). I feel the name should be kept, it's a good name. We're in the midst of a crypto "GoldRush".

In terms of tasks, do you think you could get BCT to allow you to moderate this thread to update the first post?

I'll get round to setting up a node & block explorer shortly. The wallet should be recompiled and then work should begin on re doing the algo. (i'm not a programmer so can't help there sadly).

I know the original intention was to make it out to be like the gold rush.  However, selling it as being in a gold rush still would be like selling bags of sand and saying people can pan the sand for gold.  We're not in the gold rush and alt boom that we were years ago.  So tying this project to that mentality seems a little off for me personally.  So the other option is to try to tie it to actual precious metals, which was actually a selling point for this coin at one point with a PM merchant that was taking KDC.

Either way, I don't like the PM/gold rush brand for this.  It's restricting, and it puts us in a place where we have to conform to a specific micro-niche.  That may work for some coins, but doing that with a near-dead 4yo coin might put us right back where we are.  Not to say it can't be done if that's what everyone wants to do, but I just don't see the benefit of shoehorning us into that mold.

I'd need to start a new thread.  I doubt the mods would allow me to take over this one.  I reached out to the original dev a few years back to see if he/she would turn over the login info for the accounts, but I never heard back.

...The concepts are different, once it breaks into the .10 range its going to run, and being on bittrex already will only further its availability....

A billion market cap by July is not out of the question once the emblem wallet options are out of beta... and just WAIT until Prism.  You will be looking at a top 50 crypto.  The concept if executed is superior to Ethereum.  And has much more to run with.

I agree with the run after $0.10.  It will most likely explode once the mental walls are shattered.  I don't necessarily agree with the bittrex statement though.  I've always been a firm supporter of Bittrex, but I'm worried lately about the stuff that people have been saying about it.  I side with Bittrex on most of it, but they have closed registration for new users, and users are still reporting not being able to access or withdraw their coins... taken with a grain of salt of course.  Time for a backup exchange?  I would say it would be a prudent plan.

Second point you made.  Top 50 crypto, yes.  Billion market cap by July... I'm on the fence about it.  However, if you look at any other coin(or token if you're part of the hip new crowd) with 1b coins in circulation, they all are valued much higher in the rankings than COVAL.  If we simply look at that metric, COVAL is severely undervalued, even at the current rates.  I would say the $0.40-0.60 range is more realistic if the devs deliver on the tech they're promising, and they do a little more promotion on what this sleeping giant can do for the industry.

Me... I'm banking on this allowing me to "retire" from my job currently.  Even if it's just a few years off to spend with the family, it would be worth the investment I made a few months ago.

Can someone who has a synced wallet and active peers post a peer list for people to use?  I'll work on getting a dedicated node up and running to sync to.

Well first things first what is the end game here.

My idea would be:

- Name change to show big changes
- Algo change is possible but need a good reason...

I have no endgame for this.  To be honest, that's the main reason I wanted to rebrand.  Unless we strike a deal with Amagi or similar for them to use KDC, I don't see a tie to gold that we can make.  The only way I could see us do that without a 3rd party is to somehow link to goods or services we run ourselves.

So with regard to a name change, I would be open for it, but others have stated they wouldn't want to rebrand in the past.

But all of this is easy enough to change over time, so we can make adjustments as needed as we figure things out.  The biggest concern I have right now is developing the blockchain stack for this, and making sure the blockchain stays healthy.

Think something is wrong with the network atm:

- My wallet stopps syncing at block 1,030,721 (26h ago)
- Blockexplorer https://prohashing.com/explorer/Klondikecoin/ shows last block at 1,030,721
- Cryptopia coin info https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/CoinInfo/?coin=DOT also shows block height 1,030,721

 Huh

This happens a lot with this coin.  The difficulty will ramp up and then it takes forever and a day to crack a block.  That's the downside of 4yo mining algorithms and no consistent mining power behind it.  Give it some time and it will show a new block.  I can remember times when I was syncing and it would say "last block 3 days ago", or even worse.

I like the idea of moving over to a GPU only algo for this coin, but I'm tempted to port over the multi-algo core code we're using over in AUR.  I could essentially work on two separate coins at the same time then by using the same codebase.  Easiest thing would be to just port LTC code and all the tools that go along with it, but then we're just riding the LTC code train again, just 4 years later.

thanks for the quick reply i will look to download the new version. I have 10,000 coins from the old wallet. Is there a way to retrieve these coins and put them into the new wallet?
Thanks,
Gmezbuck

Just copy your wallet.dat file into the config folder for the wallet.  If you run the newer(4yo) wallet on a computer that originally ran the older wallet, you should be able to just run it without doing anything.  It should find the old wallet.dat file in the default folder and sync up without any other work on your part.

I hope this helps!  Let me know if you run into any issues.

can someone send me the link to download the latest version of klondikecoin wallet please,
Any help is appreciated,
Regards,
Gemzbuck

There are a few links in this thread to the klondikecoin-qt-V2-fixed version, which was the last version put out like 4 years ago.  I'm not sure I would trust anything lingering around still.  Best bet is to compile a new wallet from source from this repo:

https://github.com/klondikecoin/klondikecoin

I swapped out drives on my main desktop, so I would need to find the drive that had that compiled windows wallet on it.  To my knowledge, the original dev never had a mac wallet in the wild, just a windows wallet and source for the linux peeps.

Is it true that devs kept 50% of this coin???
Is true

Is false.

The original dev airdropped coins to Icelandic citizens when the coin was originally started.  He/She then burned the remainder of the coins originally premined, minus the 1 million coins that the AUR foundation holds for development, marketing, etc.  Those 1 million coins are pretty much still untouched.

I've added KDC to my miningpool http://coincave.nl a while ago, so at least it can be mined. Please PM me if anything changes so I can update the pool Smiley

Will do, mate.  For now, I am just getting through the holidays and getting ready to plan changes.  I'm nowhere near ready to release anything yet.  It'll take planning, coding, testing, etc., so there's a lot that needs to be done.  Right now, I've just got an itch to revive this.  I need to get my butt in gear and actually do it! lol

Sometimes I have the feeling people are writing without reading the previous comments  Huh  It's not all about the constantly failing verification process.
It's about people getting forced to do a enhanced verification for even 0.1 BTC! It's about changing withdrawel limits to 0 without giving
loyal customers a heads up or a date  when this will happen. On the other hand deposits are always unlimited!?
Foreign customers are forced to do a enhanced verification because BASIC only works but often fails for US customers.
Why is this ? BASIC should be open to anybody not only US customers.

By changing terms WITHOUT WARNING their customers they are STEALING funds and breaking law that's illegal in every country.
I don't trust them and I will not send them my ID, drivers license or anything else so my coins are STOLEN by them.
[/size]

I'm sure there has to be something in their original terms that states that terms are subject to change.  By creating an account, you would have agreed to those open ended terms.  They didn't steal your money.  You can get it if you choose to... you just choose not to.

KYC laws are everywhere you go nowadays.  You're not going to get away from them forever.  If you're a foreigner exchanging money on a US based exchange, you have to accept the fact that US laws regarding foreign investing, especially in something as gray of an area as crypto trading, are going to change and be enforced differently day to day.  You can adapt and accept it, or you can sit here and complain that your "coins were stolen".  If it were my money, I would buck up and get it off the exchange.  If you're a foreigner, and you aren't allowed to get it off the exchange because of US regulatory action of whatever kind, then you have a beef with the US financial regulations system, not Bittrex.

Either way... shit or get off the pot.  If you want your money, you'll find a way to get it without crying about it.  I was kind and polite to support, and they were the same to me and resolved my issue in under an hour.  I'd love to see what your original support ticket said.  Did you accuse them of stealing when you wrote to them?

I just wanted to drop in to give my recent experience with the exchange.  Your mileage may vary, but here is what happened over the span of about an hour this morning:

I was being told by friends that there were all these bad things happening at the exchange, and that people couldn't get their coin out.  I immediately tested a withdrawal, and it went through without issue.  It was under the basic verification amount, but it was immediately processed.  I then applied for enhanced verification.  The facial recognition failed on the process, so I submitted a support ticket, went to their slack and asked about it in their support channel.  It was answered within 10 minutes.  I corrected the issue I had based on the recommendations in the support ticket, resubmitted the documents, and within another 10 minutes, I was enhanced ID verified.  I was then able to withdraw all the coins that I had on the exchange.

I'm not sure why there are so many people claiming Bittrex is stealing their coins, but I'm going to keep using them until otherwise unsatisfied with their service or honesty.

40  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SCRYPT] KlondikeCoin ★ Cryptsy.com ★ Prepaid VISA Cards ★ 0% Premine [KDC] on: November 16, 2017, 02:17:55 PM
That's a lot of newbie accounts looking for a 4yo coin to come back to life. lol

I just wanted to clear the air before a lot of questions get asked going forward:

  • This is a coin, not a token.  I know all the ICO fanboys like their new lingo, but I'll stick to the old school vernacular.
  • There is no ICO or silly ICO profit scheme.
  • There is no bounty program.
  • I'm not the original dev, but I kind of claimed ownership of this project when the dev went silent.

In the past, KDC was associated with the gold rush, and even was tied to precious metals at one point.  I think the appeal was that crypto at the time was weak, and the idea that something could be valuable like gold was a cool selling point.  With a few different coins pushing past the price of gold now, I don't see the appeal in trying to tie this to gold again.  It's one direction to try to take this coin in, but it doesn't have to be the only option.  Rebranding the coin to something more generic would be a better option, IMO.  It would allow the coin to find it's place instead of trying to force it to be something it never really lived up to in the first place.

Now, that's not to say that I didn't originally have plans to continue down the path of tying this back to precious metals somehow.  At one point, I toyed with the idea of trying to create ultra rare bonus blocks that would equate to the cost of gold at the time of solving the block, i.e. if gold was $1200 then the block reward was 1200 coins.  Eventually, if KDC reached parity with the dollar, the bonus blocks would essentially buy you an once of gold.

I threw around some other ideas as well, but I never really finalized on a plan to move forward.

I will say this though... I'm not a huge fan of the current mining mechanics.  A move to another algorithm would be highly beneficial.  There's a lot of miners out there right now with GPU gear, and moving past scrypt to something more GPU focused could possibly bring in supporters looking for a long shot option other than what's out there right now.  Plus, with L3+ machines in the wild, I honestly don't want to see the chain get stuck on some insane difficulty because someone decides to point an L3 farm at us to mess with us.

Just some thoughts for the day.  I'm into hearing what people think, or if some of the old timers here have any creative ideas on how to move forward.
