ATM's and brochures are nice but exposure is limited to the local demographic.

For real exposure Potcoin needs to be accepted at online seed vendors as a payment option to reach the masses.

Thats where the majority of our focus should be.

Still I would hand out brochures  Grin

Really we need to pool some funds to advertise at places like ICMAG.

Media kits do not need to be physically handed out to people... they can be emailed to prospective users as well.

The ICMag idea is something I would have thought they would have been all over already.  We're how far along now, and they still aren't targeting things like this?  Just pay for the damn ad and you just got the word out even more.  ICMag exposure means seedbay exposure and seedboutique exposure.  In time, this could lead to coin acceptance.  Grasscity and RollItUp are other forums that would probably sell ad space, but I'm pretty sure ICMag has the lion's share of the community.

Something is up and it's not small either,

There is a buy wall at 1:15pm CST on Cryptsy of 4.87 btc (over 534,000 Potcoins) at 913 satoshi.  I'm telling you something right now, your average Joe isn't going to be buying that much at that price unless they know something big is coming.

Just my gut, but this coin is a keeper.  I believe 1 year from now, even mining 20 Pot per day will make the average miner very happy.

There's probably a pump incoming.  Typically they will pad the buy walls with a large order to make it look like support, and then slowly move it up as the price rises.  When they're ready to dump, the pull the buy wall and crash the price.  If the someone starts selling and it starts eating into the buy order, they will pull it.  It's a good way to spot a PnD.

Well I tried to make him an offer he would not ignore .    So far it has been ignored.

Why would anyone want to trust me and make 40 bucks more then  they asked for is beyond me.

I guess you are correct and he is a scam artist .  Too bad   2 grid seed blade fro 420 usd each  would have worked for me.

To the op  if you are legit let us know do the deal with me.

I hear you, mate.  $420 blades sound great.  I'd dump everything I had right now for some.

I'm just tired of people getting scammed with this crap.  This and the name scams are just too common now.

For anyone that doesn't know what the name scam is, a legitimate and honest user will post a sale, and a scammer will create a name almost identical to the original seller.  They will then PM the prospective buyer with an address and the buyer sends the coin thinking they sent it to the original seller.  Always check, double check, and triple check your purchases before you purchase something.

The OP will not respond now.  This is how this scam works.

There will be no response PMs unless the OP finds a newbie willing to do the deal without escrow.

ONE THING: the mentioned guldencoinadress for donations in the tutorial is not my own, made a mistake I think..

I think it must be from an exchange, so don't send money to it! I will upoad a new version with my personal adress.

I think you guys will like it Wink  based on some suggestions I decided to redesign it a bit.
Now 8 screens instead of 4, with a bit more information.

For now only a dutch version.

Icebear, are you part of the dev team, or just a fan?  If you're just a fan, has anyone kicked you down some coin for your work?  If not, send me your address and I'll send you some for helping the community out.

Those neg rates are pretty useless though.  If he escrows why not try for it?

Because these deals pop up a million times over and over again.  Guy wants to sell cheap X.  People ask for escrow, guy never responds.  Newbie members PM guy and do deal with no escrow.  Guy creates another account and does it again.  Newbies say crypto is a scam and no one should do it.

Why not try?  Because obvious scam is obvious.

I'm guessing no one notices that this guy's trust level is -6.

Escrow or not, don't give scammers the time of day.  It's like feeding goats at a petting zoo.  You feed them once and they'll bite you on the ass for more.

Still looking to give someone some coin.

In fact, lets make it an even 200,000NLG for this bounty.

+1, agreed.  Take your time and make it right.  The community won't worry about a delay if the end result is perfect.

On a seperate note:

Bounty:

As a US citizen with a wife, child and baby on the way, and 2 dogs, my chances in partaking in a Cafe de Prins meal and pint anytime soon is very slim.  Let's face it, I'm never leaving the country.  However, I fully support NLG and where it's going, and I will continue to mine and hold NLG.(Kudos to the team)

That being said... I want to spend some coin.

I am offering a one time 150,000(150.000)NLG to the first merchant that accepts NLG at an existing US-based store/service for any of the following(in order of preference):

  • Amazon gift cards
  • Precious metals(Silver/Gold)
  • Steam or Origin game codes

To qualify for the bounty, you need to have an existing BCT thread with good feedback, and you need to post an announcement in this thread and the NLG forums.  I reserve the right to deny the reward if your store/service is jenky(http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=jenky).

Funds will be paid by me, out of my personal wallet.  This has no ties to the dev team, and is totally by my own accord.

Ready, set, go.

+1, Icebear!

This is one of only a few coins that have media like this.  Simply telling people doesn't always stick in their minds.  Handing them something that they'll see again later does.  A simple reminder, and a clear tutorial on how to use the wallet.  Brilliant.

The missing hashrate could be as simple as a private pool or a single solo miner.  There isn't much of a mystery here.  I've run private pools before, and so have some of the CripToe team members.  It's nice to just have a quiet place to throw your miners that hackers don't know exist.

It could be a solo miner as well.  There was a user on my pool recently that had 100MH.  What's to say he didn't just decide to try his hand at solo mining?

When you're talking numbers less than a gigahash, a 100MH here or there could be anything, but it shouldn't be something to worry about.

-Fuse
Normally it's nothing special, agreed, but when 50%+ is unknown it starts to be annoying. And I can tell you the miner with the 100Mhs on your pool is not mining solo believe me.

I'm sure... he seemed like he had his stuff in order.

I'm pretty sure we're going to see a lot of these instances of missing hashrates pop up over the next few months.  Hell, one KNC machine would eclipse the hashrate right now.  The main idea is to not piss people off and just fly under the radar.  When coins aren't boasting this and that and the other, and they aren't the top of the profitability charts, they usually run problem free.

+1 for the seed info page.  If by chance we ever have a network issue, it's nice to see visually what the network is reporting.

Kudos to the team!

Friday May 30th 4:20pm - Potcoin to be a vendor at Cannabis Cup San Fransico 2014 + Kind Tray Starting to accept PotCoin

http://potcoin.info/index.php/blog/97-potcoin-gets-a-booth-cannabis-cup-san-fransico-2014

Please fix the link. You chose an email link instead of web link.

This is a great event to get involved with, but please tell me you are going dressed like a vendor, and not like a patron.  And please, please, please tell me you'll have the finished informational kit ready to hand out to people and vendors.

But that is my point...it was discussed on reddit and the dev ignored the naysayers. They just decided to halve the coin. Outrage ensued and they stepped back to actually listen. Or atleast they pretended to listen because they ended up doing the same thing anyway.

The 840k block has always existed but it doesn't make any sense which is why I disregard it. At 840k blocks and 420 coins per block, thats 352 million coins which is more than 75% of the supply.  So either it was always intended to halve the coin repeatedly in a short span (i.e. 4 times in a year) or the halving strategy was never set in stone and 840k block was just an estimate

Exactly... they pretended to listen and pushed on regardless.  The fact that they said "we're running a poll" and "we're testing the wallet changes" in the basically the same breath shows that.  We're on the same page about that.  The poll just gave them the results they already knew they had because of the outcry of halving support from reddit.

The 840k block was a ways off... true, but it was there.  I'm sure a lot of people would agree that the halving could have been so many other things than what it ended up being.  I still wish they would have considered a continual small percentage decrease over time.  But oh well... what's done is done.

The dev team chose not to ask anybody at first...they came right out and said they were going to halve the coin. Parts of the community were outraged and they decided to have a poll.

In my opinion the halving strategy should have been thought out from the launch. The first thing I noticed about this coin after it launched...no halving or any mechanism to reduce block rewards over time. It seemed odd. When it came time to actually implementing something we all had different opinions on how to do it.

On the first point, the push for halving was made HEAVILY on reddit well before the poll.  Which is why I screamed for it after the halving announcement.  But you can go back and look at reddit and see how many people pushed for it before the poll.  I seriously questioned these peoples' crypto knowledge then, and I still do now.  You don't shout for change just because you think something will go "to da moonz".

I fully agree with the the first part of your second point, but there was a halving scheduled for POT.  It's in the first post of this thread, as follows:

Information
PoW algorithm: Scrypt
Premine: first 55 blocks where mined for checkpoints
Retarget: 107 blocks
Starting difficulty: 0.000
Max supply: 420 million
Reward halving interval: 840k blocks (~4.20 years)

There was a halving in place.  Why does everyone keep forgetting about that?  It's in the github, the website, the ANN post... how can people miss that?

One thought on the reddit thing, perhaps PotCoin puts more energy toward them because they are seen as the more public outlet of the community. IE, the most likely largest influence on the internet.

Not saying it's wise, just saying, maybe that's why..

The reddit page probably is the better place to interact with the community. Here we are limited to the rules of bitcointalk, which are not always friendly to alt coins. Information here gets lost in the waves of posts about other alt coins. I generally tell people to check out the reddit page before I tell them to come here. Especially if they don't know a lot about bitcoin to begin with.

Most coins have their own set of forums. An "insert coin name here" talk.com like litecointalk or darkcointalk, but we don't. So the reddit page is the next best thing.

Which is why it is ludicrous to ask them what should be done with the coin in regards to mining specifics.  Why ask people what should happen to coin mining when they don't even understand coin mining?

Am I the only one that sees that?

Unlike the haters I actually made a suggestion many months ago about how to best use this coin.  You seem to prefer to keep your heads int he sand "oh it's called potcoin it MUST be good".  I'm sure you've read and understand my post so I'll not bother bringing it up again.  You seem to know sooo much.

Go ahead and ignore me if you don't like what I say.  It's the link labeled "IGNORE" on the left under my name.

There have been many suggestions made and offers to help ... it seems many are ignored.  Really builds strength of community ... Right??

Make the offers on Reddit and they won't go ignored.  Roll Eyes
