1021  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: May 11, 2014, 12:21:07 AM
I was strongly against halving the coin before 4/20. I felt it would be very unfair to those who were just hearing about it then.

Everyone acts like they KNOW what will happen. No one knows for certain. We all look at the same data and extrapolate from it what we will.

At the current moment, I am for the halving of potcoin.

With the recent rush of the Asics for scrypt, i think the halving will provide longer term motivation for people to continue mining Potcoin.

I do not think the devs are doing it hoping the price will rise (or fall for that matter). It is much more long term.

In all honesty, i can't see it hurting the coin or dropping the price any lower than it currently is. The price has been ridiculously low as of late, sure shit could always go worse, but then no one would mine the coin.

What reasons are there to NOT halve the coin now?

How does halving the coin promote long term mining in relation to ASICs?  What do the two have to do with each other?  If the people with ASICs want to mine potcoin, they are going to mine potcoin.  But they aren't going to mine if it's less profitable than all the other coins.  So not only will it become extremely unprofitable for GPU miners, but ASIC miners will ditch it as well because they turn a better profit with something else.  When they jump ship, you lose a large portion of your network hash rate.

I'm still waiting to hear one good reason that the coin should halve it's reward.

If you halve the coin, I guarantee that you're going to see things get worse in terms of price and network hashrate.

But you guys do whatever you want.  Roll Eyes

Im sorry you feel that way but, we asked the community all over and all.networks and here and everyone feels that their are to many coins be mined daily and not enough use yet so the best solution is to halve the block reward.

Im sorry we cant please everyone

LOL... there aren't enough uses yet, so you're going to limit the amount of coins being generated.  Why not push harder on finding uses for the coin?  This seems completely backwards in thinking.  Halving the reward will make the coin unprofitable until the price goes up to balance things out.  The price won't go up until there are more uses for the coin and there is a higher demand for it.  You are absolutely dense if you think this block halving is a good idea... especially if it's "because there aren't enough uses for the coin".

You say you asked the community... so where's the poll?  Where is the community vote?  Did some 2 week old account tell you "you should halve the reward so it'll go to the moonz!"?  This is idiotic, at best.

Plenty of long time miners and supporters have already come forward and said this was a stupid idea.  You failed to listen to the voice of reason in support of false profit.

POTCOIN HALVING ANNOUNCEMENT

Hey everyone, so this is big announcement that we have all been waiting for and has been overdue but we wanted to be back at home base to do it after our travels.

So here is the halving timeline

The block will halve at block 280,000 to 210 Coins per block  ( thats roughly 3 week - june 1 )

Then roughly 4 times a year of every 180,000 blocks

Why would this even be on the radar?  There is no need for a block halving.

You say "... we have all been waiting for...", but who is "we"?  The reddit folks?  I'm guessing you really forget where your core supporters are.  You halve the reward, you kill the miner's interest in the coin.  You kill the miner's interest, and the network hashrate drops to a fraction of what it is now.

I'm going to go on record as saying I don't support this change at all.  First you pretty much ignore this community for Reddit, and now this... what a shame.

Yeap.... the name was really interesting, and the roadmap in the beginning was very nice, but now it is just a pump and dump coin. I don't think we will speak about Klondikecoin in 2017. But that will be the cause of a lot of coins...

Maybe it's time for a rebirth of KDC.  Let me consult the counsel.

So this means that Klondikecoin is dead.... not a lot of action from DEV. They did a massive mistake by reducing the number of coins.

I wouldn't say it's dead just yet.  There are plenty of coins that are being mined and traded with this, or less, network hash rate.  The blockchain will continue on, but it won't be what it was like before the change in block reward.

For those who had a high reject rate since v0.9e, you should try v0.9g. It has an additional command line parameter to only send work when a new block is detected (--no-refresh), by default it always sends new work as previously, so there should be much less rejects. You may enable this if your G-Blade is having trouble keeping up with the work sent.

+1, kudos!

Price reduced again... I need to clear this stuff out of the closet and get the wife off my back about it taking up storage space.

Make me an offer... I need to get rid of this stuff.

I'm mining a bit on the criptoe pool!

Woot... the little pool that could.

Thanks for your support, zro!

KDC.CripToe.Com is shutting down(for now).

There hasn't been a miner on the pool for a little less than a month.  I'd rather spin the server down and put it in hibernation than pay for something nobody is using.

It will be going offline on Friday, around noon PST.  You have until then initiate a coin transfer on any stored funds.  If you don't get your coins by Friday, they will go into a cold wallet, and will be used for promotional bonuses when the pool reopens.  I believe this is a fair amount of time to get anything owed to you, and is a fair means to redistribute the coins back to the community should you not care enough to claim your coins.

You have been warned.

Just a reminder that the pool will go into hibernation on Friday.

Initiate a withdrawal if you have coin on the site!

If you don't, all coins will be going into a cold wallet that will be used for promos when the pool reopens.

Most of the time i dump flyers in the nearest trashcan, i think more people do.
The QR code should be scanned with the app, and funds deducted from a centralized wallet at that point i guess, if you pre-fund the paper wallets, a lot of funds will go lost.

That's why you sell the idea before you give them the paper wallet.  You present it as giving someone cash... people don't throw cash away.  Maybe team with the Subways that accept it and do a little info stand to explain it to people.  A big sign saying ask me about NLG and how you can get some for free.  Tell them that just by learning about how to set up the wallet on their phone, you'll fund the wallet for a discount on their sandwich purchase.

IDK... I just wish I lived in the Netherlands now lol.

I think vesperwillow is a smart investor.. he saw the badness coming and withdrew..  At the same time he's stuck around more so than Jaymes even.. and has contributed to the community.  So to me.. he's just a smart guy that was into the concept of GPUC, wanted to support it, but didn't believe in the execution... which ended up to be the right call..

I've known Vesper for a while now, and I talk with him in chat daily.  If he says something, listen.  Dude is right about things like 90% of the time.  The other 10% of the time he's listening to my hair-brained ideas and theories. Grin

Seriously though, follow his advice if you can... he won't steer you wrong.

Guys I want to give 15 000 NLG away for Dutch Citizens, maybe like 150 for each person but they must be in the Netherlands and new to cryptos. What is the best way to go about doing this?

Another idea if the dev team want to do this, is for the next 300 Dutch citizens to claims coins they get extra 50 each, I am thinking that is best way to get unique users or maybe facebook?

Best way is to hand give them in the street.

A printed paper with instructions and explaining what is nlg for and a qrcode for the Android wallet.

if the person installs the app you transfer them 150nlg with your mobile wallet.

in 1 or 2 hours in a busy place like a train station you should be able to hand those out quickly.

Honestly, that's pretty brilliant.  Little paper wallet flyers.  I bet you could seriously move a bunch of these in a day.

Wildwest, if you go this route, PM me and let me know.  I might be willing to sponsor this endeavor with some extra funds.

why we don´t talk seriosly about block halving or more than that ?
who should buy thats coins that are daily mined ??
ALL actual buy orders @ bittrex are have volume of 0,16 btc, that is a shit ...

and please don´t say .. buy now ist cheap bla bla bla

i got nearly 1 % of all mined coins (without premine for Distribution) and i don´t wanna be your financial bagholder who buy all coins from miners and make them rich or pay their bills.

i like this coin really, but on this volume of coins there is no future ..  should i buy a Sandwich from subway with 150.000 coins or what is the plan ?

make a value for this coin and do not any more coins on market that nobody wanna buy actual.

What does block halving do... honestly?  People need to stop going down the road of changing the coin to change the value.  Coins that do that die.  Plain and simple.  Leave the coin the way the developers designed it.  Stop trying to change the payout, or make it POS, or implement super-blocks, or any other silly idea.

If you want to raise the value, give some of that 1% of all the coins to your friends and tell them to go buy a Subway sandwich.  What's a sandwich going to cost you?  Get them interested, and spread the word of the coin.  When people want to buy it or mine it, the coin will go up in value.

I agree, NLG should aim for more of a fiat pairing then btc pairing, this coin might be serious enough to have it's own NLG/Crypto pairings in the future. With enough merchants you will have plenty foreigners trading other alts for NLG when they want to visit the Netherlands.

This should be the main focus of this coin and in the meantime keep voting for mintpal and not worry about other shit exchanges unless it's btc-e or maybe cryptsy.

I don't think you'll see it hit BTC-E.  Not being negative, just realistic.  BTC-E doesn't add coins unless it wants to add coins.  Hell, it doesn't even have DOGE, which is now the 3rd most widely accepted coin out there.  Cryptsy though would be an easily achievable goal though with community support.

If you want to bridge the fiat/crypto gap... work on NLG ATMs.  This is entirely possible, and would not only spark community interest and awareness, but would get NLG into the hands of the people who it's made for.  Put them outside the Subway restaurants that already accept NLG.  Approach other retailers with the coin, and if they turn it down, hit them up with a plan B of housing an ATM.  Rent the space from them, and they are spreading awareness without even having to accept the coin.  Eventually, they'll want to accept the coin.

Price out the development of a NLG ATM and software, and let the NLG community make it happen with a ATM fundraiser.

I'd recommend not trying to get NLG on every exchange possible.  It dilutes the trades.  Sure you can make trades on 10 different exchanges, but your doing it for 1/10th the volume.  IMO, we should keep focused on Mintpal or even trying to shoot for Cryptsy(I know, it's Craptsy to some).  Stick with markets that will earn NLG a little more attention and have a stronger community backing.

The only change in autotuning is the time needed to make adjustments, so autotune will take longer to finish.

Maybe that's the issue with my units then.  They are picky enough to want to work faster when they can, but are limited.  I'll recompile and check the results.

-Fuse

The higher the pool difficulty, the longer it will take.
By default, it's 3845 steps (~ 1 hour of hashing time). But with diff 512, it's 512*10 = 5120 steps.

I've set up a separate port on the pool specifically for gridseeds.  It maxes at 256.  Would it be 2560 then?

Is it possible to tune faster, or would that cause more problems?  I'm not saying could you do that, but rather can it be done.  It would be interesting to see what a faster turning time would do.

Sandor,

It seems the optimizations you made to tuning have actually decreased performance on my 20 5-chip units.  My graphs were hitting upper limits of 7.7MH for 20 units, were now they are only hitting 7.1MH.  Rejects/HW errors are about the same.  That's a pretty big dip.

Just thought I would report what I'm seeing on my end.  I might recompile the older version and roll with that for the time being.
