Read that quote 3 times fast...

Quote
“What is essential to ensure the cryptographic integrity of the system, and the decentralization of validation, is in fact, truly central. It is the unavoidable aspect of making a credible record. But the rotation of the successive block creation, its purpose is not achieving the purpose of increasing the cryptographic strength of the system.”

Arbitrage opportunity for the brave/foolhardy?
https://cointelegraph.com/news/iran-ditches-the-rial-amid-hyperinflation-as-localbitcoins-seem-to-trade-near-35k
Quote
Back in 2018, Iranian authorities set an official exchange rate at some 42,000 rial to the dollar. Many currency exchanges still show this as the going rate. At the same time, peer-to-peer Bitcoin exchange LocalBitcoins is seeing prices of 1,445,658,900 rials per BTC — according to the official exchange rate, roughly $34,500.

It is, however, not the time to start selling BTC in Iran. Despite official proclamations, the rial has taken a beating alongside the Iranian economy.

According to Radio Free Europe, black market trading had the U.S. dollar selling for 156,000 rials. The toman would cut four zeroes off of current rates, but may well run into the same problems that have stymied the rial.

I'm actually pretty impressed with how btc is holding up here. I kind of expected a little more ^$%#ery and shenanigans going into the halving. I'd hate to be gambling on swing trades right now.

But seriously, does he not make sense?

No, no he does not.

Beyond that, I wanted to listen simply based on the fact that YT and FB censor his freedom of speech.

I want to drink drain cleaner now that the grocery stores have removed it from the snacks section. Just ribbin' ya, fill your mind with whatever you want. Now where'd I put those cheese doodles, I swear I had a 5lb bag just yesterday.

Haha, I guess when your hankerin' for some Infowars type magical thinking you gotta get your fix somehow or another now that Alex Jones is mostly out of commission.

bees kind of important to our food chain yo, it's not about a couple goddamn humans getting stung

QFT. I don't know why I still get surprised at people's lack of knowledge of some of the most basic topics. And I'm no Brainiac but this is kind of well known stuff.

For those that are still going on about flu/covid19 parity....
https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/comparing-covid-19-deaths-to-flu-deaths-is-like-comparing-apples-to-oranges/
Quote
The question remains. Can we accurately compare the toll of the flu to the toll of the coronavirus pandemic?

To do this, we have to compare counted deaths to counted deaths, not counted deaths to wildly inflated statistical estimates. If we compare, for instance, the number of people who died in the United States from COVID-19 in the second full week of April to the number of people who died from influenza during the worst week of the past seven flu seasons (as reported to the CDC), we find that the novel coronavirus killed between 9.5 and 44 times more people than seasonal flu. In other words, the coronavirus is not anything like the flu: It is much, much worse.

$1700 is now worth $1512 compared to 2012.

I don't really understand the ongoing war of opinion between gold and btc, seems a bit manufactured. They both have their places. The folks that buy gold are absolutely not fans of volatility. To them having a place to park value in the face of most everything else tanking worse is a better proposition than a risky investment with the same funds that might moon. It's fun to read the taunts thrown at Schiff, especially since he brings it on himself so often, but from an investor standpoint diversifying is always a good idea. Humanity's tribalistic tendencies don't seem like a good fit for a successful investor.

The pictures I say of these brutes were scarier.

They seem like they are playing out their personal fantasy more than anything else.

True?

If someone's twitter avatar is themselves shirtless I'd say that qualifies as at least as dumb. There must be a club judging by the replies in that thread.

That guy's rep will either be raised to guru status or he'll be completely humiliated, it all depends on this next halving. I understand why he doesn't use his real name, same reason most here don't probably, but it doesn't help his credibility when trying to publish scientific articles. This is the kind of stuff that needs to be peer reviewed. And leave off the price predictions. That said, it sure is a fun bit of hopium and it's hard not to get excited thinking about it.
219  Other / Off-topic / Re: [POLL] Donald Trumps IQ - let us know! on: April 25, 2020, 01:05:17 PM
I think realistically he's either about or just under average, which is by definition 100. He's a product of wealth and privilege so his education, even if it didn't take too well, wasn't neglected. He didn't grow up malnourished with no access to schools. He hasn't lived with or experienced other cultures outside of the elite 1%, very insular isolated culturally. I think his biggest flaw is an unwillingness to venture outside of his bubble. He's a prime example of what happens when drug dealers use their own supply too long. Combined with obvious mental illness, I'm guessing Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I'm more worried about the IQ of the people that voted him into office.

Some people just can't stop trying to fix something that's not broken...
https://cointelegraph.com/news/crypto-industry-divided-over-introducing-circuit-breakers-on-exchanges
Quote
The community appears split on whether cryptocurrency and exchanges should implement circuit breakers and is even more divided on whether those circuit breakers should be at the exchange level or token level. However, one piece seemed clear throughout all the opinions and developmental research: Projects that focus on the success of investors and users will come out of this as winners
