Bitcoin Foundation director Jon Martonis says new regulations go too far

Quote
Bitcoin Foundation founding director Jon Matonis has defended the virtual currency during a visit to Auckland, saying it is doing more good than harm despite its popularity with fraudsters.

The virtual currency has come under attack from the executive director of New Zealand cyber-safety organisation NetSafe, Martin Cocker, who has said he personally would not be sad to see Bitcoin's demise.

Because Bitcoin transactions are impossible to trace, they have been favoured by cyber-criminals as a means of payment when extorting money in "ransomware" scams.

BITCOIN HAS DIED NEARLY 100 TIMES

Quote
According to the mainstream press, Bitcoin has died…Many, many times. That’s why Jordan Tuwiner started Bitcoin Obituaries – to compile the many obituaries which have been written about the nascent cryptocurrency Bitcoin.

He had noticed a preponderance of articles claiming Bitcoin would soon be gone..

“I wanted to collect the articles and make a monument showing Bitcoin’s resilience. I knew the site would be funny, but also shows Bitcoin’s strength over time,” Tuwiner told Cryptocoins News.

+1. inquisitr.com? I never heard of such a media....and looking at their shitty news, I would gladly ignore it in the future.
205  Economy / Gambling / Re: [DICE]Bikinidice, Multicurrency,auto bet, range selector.AUCTION, PLEASE ENTER !! on: June 08, 2015, 04:40:21 AM
Were the investors able to divest before handing out the site to the new owner? I hope this is not another bad story..

I was able to de-invest. Probably other investors did it, also.
206  Economy / Gambling / Re: [DICE]Bikinidice, Multicurrency,auto bet, range selector.AUCTION, PLEASE ENTER !! on: June 08, 2015, 04:00:52 AM
What's happened? When this site will start again? Site is down and there isn't any news from the owner. Miss so much BikiniDice Sad
The site was sold a few months ago. I am not sure why the buyer paid so much for it and never actually did anything with the site

Maybe buyed it because he wanted to remove a competitor from the dice sites business.
Just a guess, however.
207  Local / Gambling (Italiano) / Re: [ITA(Una volta)][CEDUTO] BikiniDice - Ceduto all'utente unibtc.4real on: June 08, 2015, 03:58:14 AM

208  Economy / Gambling / Re: [DICE]Bikinidice, Multicurrency,auto bet, range selector.AUCTION, PLEASE ENTER !! on: June 08, 2015, 03:52:22 AM
Too bad...a nice dice site like BikiniDice was seemingly abandoned by the new owner. However, I don't know if I could be back  gambling with it since I am already enjoying & investing in other dice sites, like Da Dice.
209  Other / Politics & Society / Re: USA attack to RUSSIA soon. on: June 07, 2015, 06:53:25 PM
Are they really called satan?

The original Russian name was R-36M. The NATO gave it the reporting name as SS-18 Satan. Now no one outside Russia uses the original name. Media sources in the Western world only uses the NATO reporting name. Similarly, the NATO reporting name for the S-400 Triumf is SA-21 Growler. The real reason behind all this NATO propaganda is simple. They want to imply that the Russian missiles are "satanic" or bad to the human civilization, while the American missiles are dovish, and are used only for "peaceful" purposes.  Grin

The initial letter of the name indicated the use of that missiles: S — surface-to-surface missiles, including ship- and submarine-launched. A list of them can be found also in the Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NATO_reporting_names_for_surface-to-surface_missiles.
I don't think someone willingly tought of implying that Russian missiles are satanic; but, probably laked enough fantasy to choose a nicer one. Soviets once had  a "Sibling" missile, SS-2 or (R-2) and...i cannot think negatively about a sibling.  Wink

Bitcoin Supporters Should Take a Page Out of the Uber Playbook

Quote
The Philippines made international headlines recently when it created a new category of transport: Transportation Network Vehicle Service (TNVS).

This designation allows services like Uber to operate outside of the legal grey area it had been stuck in since late last year and moves it toward even wider acceptance among Filipinos.

While all Filipinos should celebrate this recognition, it should matter even more to those who want to see bitcoin gain mainstream adoption in the country. The TNVS ruling provides a case study, if not a precise model, for how the cryptocurrency might come to be regulated in the Philippines, and in turn, reach more Filipinos.

211  Other / Meta / Re: User creating massive amounts of referral spam - EmpoEX on: June 07, 2015, 02:34:13 PM
Yeah, probably the users just clicked a phishing link themselves or got a virus from somewhere else.

I guess it was linked to the phishing attempts reported today by QS & AT101ET. Maybe, You & other Staff have more solid proofs about the issues.

Yeah, probably the users just clicked a phishing link themselves or got a virus from somewhere else.

I got this PM from EmpoEX:
Hello,

We have noticed that you have left us a negative trust rating for spamming referral links.
Our account was hacked by a trojan horse virus that was spread around the last couple of days, resulting in spam being sent out. If you did not notice, we edited all posts to apologise for the inconveniences. They have now since been deleted.

We're asking kindly if you can remove the negative trust from our account.

Thank you very much
#EmpoEX Team

I linked him to this thread and asked him to provide more details. If what he says is true he should give as much information as possible to prevent this in the future.

+1. It would be great to learn some lessons from it & maybe we can also turn it in a distributed digital forensics effort.  Grin
212  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-06-05] Reuters: Could a digi-drachma avert a Grexit? on: June 07, 2015, 01:05:34 PM
Yea, we could say that... BUT a digital crypto currency could solve one of their other problems. {Government corruption - With crypto, it could become more transparent}

They have huge debt, and in part, it started with government corruption. If you reduce corruption with transparent tenders, you would solve the cause, not remedy the result.

I speak with friends in Greece on a weekly basis and they all say, problems with the financial situation will not be solved, by throwing more fiat money at it.

Create a more transparent system and build from there.  Sad

How could it solve corruption if you only need passing your crypto currency in a mixer or two to break the link between the corruptor and the corrupt official? IMHO, a crypto currency...simplify spiriting bribe money out of the country, not eliminating corruption.

I hope the mods have the time to take care of all that, it's big work sometimes... I'm helping anytime I can by reporting, keep it up, mods Smiley

We're on it. And appreciate the help.

Just reported another possible alt - YourNewGod, uid: 412771 - of the said spammer.
214  Economy / Gambling / Re: what is your favorite gambling place? on: June 07, 2015, 12:38:32 PM
I used to love many sites until I started playing at DaDice some 1-2 weeks ago. I used my own strategy there and won decent amount, so my favorite is DaDice

Is DaDice your favorite because you won there? Grin Joking apart...I really like DaDice because it seems to run smoother than other websites. I liked also 64blocks but their buggy or rigged autobetting, coupled with apparent sloppyness to solve such an issue, prevented me to trust them any real BTC both for gambling & investment purposes.

Please stop spamming your "loan requests" everywhere - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=520384;sa=showPosts - and took the time to read the btct forum's lending rules:

As You can understand by yourself after reading the above educational threads, a newly created btct account with a Newbie rank like yours is not a valid collateral. So, until you provide a valid collateral with enough value to cover loan amount + interests, you have no chance to receive a loan here.

Dear user,

No I do not have collateral, but I will pay back in 1 day and you will be paid 25$.

Thanks for your time.
edit:

ill let you have my bitcoin account as collateral.

hello my fellow bitcoin gamblers!  Cheesy
I want to do some gambling with my bitcoins and I am looking for some place to do this, so I wanted to know what is everyone's favorite gambling place where they go to have some fun gambling?

Betcoinpoker.ag for my poker needs, Dadice if I want to have some rolls and I don't really have a regular casino but on and off I use Fortune Jack. Good luck with your gambling needs.. I see you have 64 in your sig, take it you like that game?
thank you for your reply, I am gonna give some of them a try to see how they are Smiley
and yes I liked 64BLOCKS it is a fun game to play, and also the signature campaign is a good one too.

I agree that 64BLOCKS is a fun game to play but i stopped gambling with them because autobet is not working properly - or it is rigged - always jumping 1 game and the bet does not return to base, thus stealing your BTC. After almost a week their support still need to address the issue.
So, after a brief stint with their gambling site, I've returnend enjoying Da Dice.
218  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is your favorite type of gambling? on: June 07, 2015, 07:36:26 AM
I play some sports betting, poker and dice at 64blocks, but i did say my favourite would be dice, no waiting unlike sports betting I get bored at times, Dice is swifty & easy way to add up some bits.

I would like to know if you're still gambling with 64blocks...since it seems their autobet is not working properly, or is rigged. In fact, it was reported that autobet always jump 1 game and the bet does not return to base and after a week the issue is still unresolved.  Angry

Edit (June 07, 2015, 08:27:18 AM): Correction of mistypings.

An unidentified 28-year-old man was robbed of more than $1,100 in bitcoin at gunpoint in New York City late last month.

The robbery took place after the man, from Crown Heights, Brooklyn, met up for an in-person bitcoin sale arranged over online classifieds platform Craigslist on 27th May, according to a report by DNAinfo.

http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-stolen-new-york-gunpoint-robbery

Why starting a duplicate thread over the same news article a day later when the same was already published and discussed in the same board? Also why falsifing the actual news date from June, 5th to June, 6th? To make it look different and you avoiding being labelled as signature spammer?  Huh
Please took more care and avoid creating unnecessary posts & threads, just for a few more satoshis.
