2001  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Could this popular mining pool be cheating its miners? on: August 08, 2011, 10:26:12 PM
Thank You for the data.

So basically, we have 21.4221% probability of 'at most' 1462 blocs found while 1493.16 blocks are expected. This is well in the realm of possibility.

Don't feel bad for taking MadScientist75 at his word, once. From this point forward, you should double check all of his starting assumptions, all of his data, all of his calculations and all of his conclusions. Those of us that know MadScientist75, know to do this.

I think the person who mentioned standard deviation earlier in the thread was doing so as a slight to MadScientist75. It is a #btcguild inside joke that stems from this little gem:
Jul 26 20:40:25 <sonicrules1234>    Mad7Scientist: Are you using standard deviation anywhere in your equations?
Jul 26 20:40:43 <Mad7Scientist> sonicrules1234, what is standard deviation?

Hilarity follwed. You can grep the online logs for #btcguild if you want the whole conversation.  Cheesy

Anyway, Eleutheria already put this thread to bed with actual math and actual data. So I don't get to have fun with it.  Angry
2002  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin IS anonymous on: August 04, 2011, 02:49:38 AM
if it wasn't, why hasn't anyone identified the stealer of the bitcoins of Allinvain, MyBitcoin and various other hacks?

When the coins at mybitcoin are exchanged for dollars or euros, the identity of whoever converted those coins will be known to the exchange. Until that time, the coins from mybitcoin are exactly where they have always been. There is simply no way (at the moment) for their rightful owners to access them.

Nice setup! I know what you mean about "this should only take a couple of hours..."  Cheesy

Do the PSUs draw air in from the top? If so does the motherboard block air flow to them?

Did you find a single rivet strong enough to hold the aluminum angle stock together?
2004  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DWOLLA requiring photo ID now on: August 03, 2011, 09:17:51 PM
Moral of the story:
IF you actually work with a company/vendor/person instead of crying foul and ranting about it on a forum you might get what you want.

Nonetheless: The growing data collection hysteria sucks.

You know what? If every service that touches Bitcoin didn't become a target of fraud, causing huge monetary losses for lots of people, none of this would be required.

Yet here we are

You are touching Bitcoin.

Are you really paying .40 $/kWh? Ouch.
2006  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible that he is Satoshi Nakamoto? on: August 03, 2011, 03:16:20 AM
The differences I see between EGold and Bitcoin.

There is no central operator with Bitcoin. All transactions are visible, so nobody needs to get a subpoena. They only need download the transaction blocks. Also, bitcoin makes no promise to exchange into any other currency. Bitcoins are only tokens or chips and have no intrinsic value or backing by fiat, they are only as valuable as the need for a secure transaction is.
2007  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Read BEFORE buying Graphics card on: August 03, 2011, 12:41:24 AM
Edited 1st post to avoid mouth & ass confusion.

Ah, it is a lot clearer now that we're just misunderstanding on what's ass and mouth Cheesy

Very disappointed. I thought this was going to be a human centipede thread with all the ass/mouth talk.  Roll Eyes

In an open case with good spacing between the cards, lots of air flow around the cards, and mild ambient air temps I haven't noticed a large difference in card temps.

In a closed case, the open style cards are a trainwreck.

I would like to be white listed so I can talk about the theoretical maximums vs practical maximums of parallelizing SHA256 on AMD hardware.

Also, at least one response to a thread in the Mining hardware section is to be expected.  Grin

I have > 5 posts and > 4 hours onine.
2009  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: mtgox > 1.3 million/btc - 2 million buy order on: August 02, 2011, 10:09:03 PM
Agree, I wonder how many people were affected in this yet another big mistake from MtGox

This is the wild wild west. Expect the unexpected!
2010  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can I please get out of troll land so I can post! on: August 01, 2011, 05:17:46 PM
It's not really that exciting out there. The real nice people hang around the noob section  Cool

I'm inclined to agree. Lot of helpful people here. Lots of trolls all over the forum. Heads up.

Yeah, I am not sure I want to stay logged in for 4 hrs Sad

4 hours is a long time!
2012  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: over heat problem on: August 01, 2011, 04:49:42 AM
Packing that many cards into a small case will always run hot. I doubt you can keep them cool enough to mine 24/7 without doing heat damage to at least one of the cards.

Get a really big fan and blow lots of air directly on/between them. Leave the case sides off.
2013  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how do we get out of newbie mode? on: August 01, 2011, 04:44:32 AM
Be sure to remain logged in while you're lurking, and contribute at least 5 (useless) posts. Then you are allowed to start posting useful content in the appropriate subforums. Excellent way to prevent the forum from being cluttered with junk. Lips sealed

Do they have to be useless?  Grin
2014  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bottle necking my cpu? or what else may be wrong? on: July 31, 2011, 12:01:32 AM
Uninstall and reinstall is the recommended method.
2015  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bottle necking my cpu? or what else may be wrong? on: July 30, 2011, 11:23:10 PM
The probably is most likely with your drivers. I had a 2 core CPU maxed out at 100% just running 2 GPUs due to a bug in the catalyst drivers. Which OS and driver version are you running?

I have 11.6 Catalyst + Linux working with <10% CPU util.

11.7 Catalyst showed the same symptoms you see.
2016  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it worth it? on: July 30, 2011, 11:18:12 PM
I think mining rigs are still viable. Unless Bitcoin goes the way of Esperanto...

Is there any duty/VAT to be paid from ordering in Canada from the USA(used to be AAA but now just A)?
