2001  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Statement of President Joe Biden on Safely Reopening Schools on: February 13, 2021, 05:37:15 PM
So far, I think the one thing Biden deserves to be criticized the most for is claiming that 'A majority of schools would be open within his first 100 days' back in December and now back tracking to 50% of schools having 'some in person learning at least 1 day a week'.

That's a huge backtrack, there was obviously some miscalculation somewhere.

Luckily for him the impeachment hearings are pushing this story to the back burner.

They were expected to have final vote bringing a close to the trial.  Instead they voted to call witnesses.  Pretty big deal, this thing could go on for another couple weeks if they end up taking a recess.

Have lots of thoughts, no time right now though.

2004  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [POLL] WILL TRUMP BE ELECTED TO A SECOND TERM? on: February 13, 2021, 10:55:11 AM
Trump lost something like 5 billion dollars since running for President.

Trump has never had 5 billion dollars to lose, and the losses he incurred were due to the economy, not because Don Jr. was pretending to be running the family company instead of him.  If he weren't president and instead there was a president who fucked up the economy in the same way Trump did, Trump would've had even bigger losses since he wouldn't have of had the revenue he generated by simply being president (foreign leaders dumping money into his properties, overcharging the federal government when he stayed at his own properties, the whole inauguration scam, etc.)
2005  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [POLL] WILL TRUMP BE ELECTED TO A SECOND TERM? on: February 13, 2021, 04:31:49 AM
I think it's unlikely, but there's a non zero chance that we've heard the last of Trump.  He's facing mountains of criminal charges, civil suits, and massive amounts of debt - he could realize that running his mouth will only make things worse for himself and his family.  Plus he's old and likes to play golf and lives in a nice resort that he can be the king of and surround himself with people that believe (or pretend to believe) the words that come out of his mouth.
2006  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump Impeachment Public Hearings [serious discussion] on: February 12, 2021, 06:31:31 AM
the real question to ask.
did him having 'office' give him powers that he negatively used to cause harm/damage to people/property. if so he will lose his office

The reality is a conviction requires 67/100 votes and there are 50 republicans in the Senate.  So unless 17 of them vote to convict, there's no chance he will be convicted.  The over under on total votes at every sports book I've seen is 54.5 and the odds of him being convicted are between 2 and 6%.  Basically, something big needs to happen between now and the vote.

(current civil office of 'former president' and all privileges assigned to that.)
Biden already said because of his erratic behavior he won't be getting the classified briefings other former presidents get.  Not really a big deal since obviously Biden won't be calling him for advice and Trump doesn't read briefings.  It would be pretty unreasonable to take away his security detail, are there any other 'perks'?

I wasn't expecting any criminal investigations or indictments to be formally announced until after the Senate trial, but the District Attorney of Fulton County, Georgia made public there was an open Criminal investigation into Trump for:

Quote
attempts to influence the administration of the 2020 Georgia General Election . This investigation includes , but is not
limited to, potential violations of Georgia law prohibiting the solicitation of election fraud, the making of
false statements to state and local governmental bodies , conspiracy , racketeering, violation of oath of office
and any involvement in violence or threats related to the election's administration

he did it so many times that if you went step by step with him theres literally nobody left to believe except him.  you cant believe the media, or any journalist at all, or scientists, or military leaders, or other world leaders, or other politicians, only him.
First lie: the size of the crowd at his inauguration.  I remember thinking 'what a clown, does he really think anybody will believe him?' as I watched Spicer tell a room full of journalists not to believe what they saw with their own eyes.  And here we are today, people still believe that he received millions more votes than Biden and is a victim of the press.

Chinese New Year bonus please 🤣

WORD!
I am in Taiwan so I should be eligible.  Smiley

Happy CNY.
All chinese are around the world, why do you only think people in taiwan are eligible?

Chinese New Year bonus please 🤣

Check your email please, the Chinese New Year bonus is sent to user's email some time ago. It is also as a pre monthly bonus, means that we will get monthly bonus in the next few days (hopefully). I expect the monthly bonus will come on the Valentine's day as Stake love their players, so it will be a great day to celebrate and show their love to their players Smiley

If that was a pre monthly bonus, it's not for chinese event then. You just simply get your bonus early than it usual come

- He didn't say he thinks only people in Taiwan are eligible.

- It's a premonthly bonus, it's for the Lunar New Year, they said to expect the monthly bonus soon

We've been through this guys.  I think I've literally addressed every point you two have just made.  (maybe I didn't, let's not argue about that either please)

I'm not putting any more effort into spoon feeding you the Mueller report.  It just takes too much effort to explain everything to you guys multiple times and there's really no reason you can't just read it yourself.  I'm happy to continue discussing it in another thread, but only if you put the effort required into understanding what is in the report.  That means reading the actual report, not media reports on the report.  The actual report:  https://www.justice.gov/storage/report.pdf  (Ideally you should read most of Volume 1 with special attention to section IV, Volume 2 is all about obstruction.)

Lets try to keep this thread focused on things that are directly related to the trial for now.  I'm going to try to avoid the win/lose mentality better than I have the last few years and hopefully have more of a thoughtful discussion than a heated argument.

The round two impeachment hearings are even better than the first!

https://twitter.com/NorahODonnell/status/1359565322056065028

This stuck out, maybe a poor choice of words from the gentleman from Texas, but for some reason I can think of something that's also a threat to democracy, like openly calling the 2016 election illegitimate and claiming the sitting US President was a Russian spy. Seems like democrats did a good job of convincing Americans that Trump was elected off an illegitimate election because he allegedly colluded with Russia, which turned out not to be true. Guess that's all fine and dandy.

So much unifying going on guys.

The 2016 election wasn't called illegitimate and they didn't accuse Trump of being a spy.

Umm, many Democrats said that Trump was an illegitimate President, and said that Trump was Putin's puppet. Trump was doing the exact same thing that was done to him after the 2016 election, only he did not have the propaganda machine behind him to cause the same level of amplification.

The election process was not called into question.  Hillary didn't say she got more votes.  (electoral votes, that is) There was a peaceful transition of power.  Being a puppet is not the same as being a spy.

If all of that had happened, it wouldn't justify what Trump did.

(I'm sure you can find someone that made those claims, but it wasn't what the democrats were claiming overall as a group)

When Trump "lost" the election I thought this thread would die.  Then it came out that his supporters wanted him to run again in 2024 so I thought maybe there's a chance.  Now the democrats are impeaching and it looks like this thread may again get a definitive answer.  That is, until the next strange turn of events.  No matter how you look at it though, sitcom drama has made it's way to the White House and everything is right on schedule for our future Idiocracy.

You forgot the part where he summoned the angry mob to go storm the capital so that he wouldn't 'lose' the election.
2012  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump Impeachment Public Hearings [serious discussion] on: February 10, 2021, 07:16:23 PM
None of this really matters though — we know that the votes aren’t there in the Senate already. 10 Republicans WILL NOT be joining Democrats in finding Trump guilty for impeachment.

the votes are in. they voted yes. the impeachment is going to proceed

He doesn't even have an office anymore. This is really strange, is this how they hated Trump?
When an impeachment proceeding goes on and eventually since Trump doesn't;t have influence anymore, he will lose and the penalty to him is to be removed from office?  Grin

It could backfire one day that the previous president could still be impeached while not in office anymore.  My country has the funniest politics but I'm starting to see why Liberals in my country act the same way.

Upon conviction the Senate can vote to make him ineligible to run for any political office again.

AFAIK, stake prohibits people from US,UK and few other countries to use their service so if someone tries to play from the prohibited location with false information then its a violation and leads to account termination but in this case user facing issues with the loading so I guess the stability of internet connection is the issue. Better use the DNS resolve apps so it may work. If still problem exists then reaching out their customer service is the only option.
I think it is also quite possible that VPN could be causing this problem as well. Now I know you must think that using fake information should be making you banned and that's it, until you get caught there is nothing stake does about it, you gamble a lot and in the end you get banned.

But that is not the case, the reality is that if you gamble with VPN there are things that tries to stop you from doing that as well, for example when I was using google chrome and got those free VPN services, that was always banned, I never got to play, not even terminating my account type of deal, it was always "error fetching site" type of errors, because in the end stake knew that I was trying to do it on a VPN, thankfully my nation is not banned but I just wanted to use it for extra protection. This could be something similar as well, maybe stake knows it is VPN and prevents it?
There are some free VPNs available which can bypass any site;s restrictions for sure but they are going to make us in trouble since these gambling sites are against multiple accounts so using VPN is never a good idea unless we purchased a premium dedicated proxy for ourselves.

Stake does not prohibit the use of a vpn or multiple accounts as long as you don't use them for a promo that says no multi accounts.

Cassidy was a pretty big surprise, he gave an interview afterwards saying that the legal defenses 'disorganized and random' argument it what swayed him to vote yes.
Many of the lawyers who represented Trump in his last impeachment trial have declined to do so this time around because it is of their opinion that this trial is nothing more than political theater.

I'm pretty sure this is not true, but if you have any sources I'd be interested in seeing them. I know Dershowitz called it political theater, but he didn't say that's why he isn't on the team.

There are multiple reports that some of the lawyers from impeachment #1 consider what he did indefensible and according to Keith Whittington, a politics professor at Princeton University:

“I’m not terribly surprised that top tier conservative attorneys who a Republican president might normally turn to would not be interested in jumping on this particular grenade.  Those who might have been sympathetic to defending the president in other contexts such as his first impeachment don’t necessarily want to defend what he’s done here -- both because they aren’t easy to defend and they’ll tarnish people’s professional reputation down the road.”
https://news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-week/trump-struggles-to-build-legal-team-as-impeachment-trial-nears

My best guess is Trump will not get convicted, but if he does, I would say that any conviction will be thrown out by the SC.
This was discussed when he was impeached the first time.  Legal experts seem to agree that SCOTUS does not have the authority to overturn an impeachment due to separation of power and the fact that the constitution gives the house sole power to impeach and the senate sole power to convict.  I agree he probably won't be convicted though, my guess is the final vote will be 55-45 in favor of convicting (they need 2/3).

I am not sure how this is even a decision. The House called no witnesses and held no hearings. I am not sure how anyone would consider voting to convict without any evidence.
There's tons of evidence.  Footage of the attack, his speech, records of all of his public statements and social media posts, plus every member of the Senate is basically already a witness.

the impeachment is about stripping a president(current or former) of all honour and privilege and to remove them from ever having a chance of office again. .. and then normal criminal law can apply to them
There is no part of the constitution that allows for the Senate to impeach a former President. The constitution allows for the Senate to remove a President from office, however, Trump cannot be removed from office because he does not currently hold the office of the President.

The House has sole power to impeach.  The Senate has sole power to convict.  Impeachment results in two thing: removal from office and the ability for congress to make him ineligible to run for office again.

By claiming that he cant be convicted if he leaves office after being impeached would allow for officials to commit impeachable offenses without being held accountable by simply leaving office.

There's also precedent from like 100 years ago, so this wouldn't be the first time.

I skipped the video portion on purpose. Did they include Trump’s comment during the last debate regarding Proud Boys and Antifa?

“Disorganized and random” is accurate and the referrals to The Federalist Papers were odd and out of place for the point they were trying to make.
It was disappointing but not surprising to see only a handful of the GOP voting for an impeachment trial.
On the same but other note, Why his Georgia phone call isn’t enough to keep him from holding any public office again (aka: impeached) is also disappointing.

I believe they only included stuff from Jan 6th.  The video is intense.  I encourage anyone that thinks what happened isn't a big deal or that Trump played no roll in what happened to watch it.

There's a decent chance Trump is indicted for what he tried to do to the Georgia SS.

, and then liable to future court actions for criminal charges

I don't think being impeached would have much affect on criminal charges.  Like you said, the two are supposed to be completely separate.  It's possible prosecutors are waiting for the impeachment process to conclude before filing charges though, but I don't think it matters what the outcome is.
2015  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump Impeachment Public Hearings [serious discussion] on: February 10, 2021, 12:50:14 AM
Welp, here we are...again - after being impeached for Inciting an Insurrection, Trumps second trial in the Senate kicked off today. It's expected to finish this weekend, but it's possible it goes into next week.

The trial opened with a video of what happened on Jan 6th: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivVOPWrFfW4

Most of the day was spent debating whether or not it's constitutional to have an impeachment trial for a president after he's no longer in office.  6 Republicans joined the 50 Democrats to vote yes, 56-44.

Republicans voting yes: Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Mitt Romney ,  Ben Sasse of Nebraska, Pat Toomey, Bill Cassidy.

Cassidy was a pretty big surprise, he gave an interview afterwards saying that the legal defenses 'disorganized and random' argument it what swayed him to vote yes.

The next big question will be if they decide to call witnesses or not.

All this is telling us is that Biden doesn't really know how to do it right.

Cool

So let me be sure I get what you're saying here...there is a correct way to rape someone, and that correct way is not getting caught? That's pretty dark...

I first knew BADecker was a psychopath when hours after a white supremacist opened fire at a garlic festival, killing 4 people and injuring 17 others, he started a thread saying basically "LOOK WHAT LIBERALISM DID!" He has no ability to feel remorse or empathy for others, and there's no real reason not to have him on ignore.

Okay, so you like being raped by presidents.      Huh

Ok, so you agree Biden won the election.  Finally.

Cool
2018  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Memorandum on Advancing the Human Rights of LGBTQI+ Persons Around the World on: February 07, 2021, 06:45:32 PM
i see this as two sided.

a. it says (sec 2) it wants to protect the LGBTQI people being persecuted by actually recognising the persecution as an actual reason of needing refuge in the adopting country..
..
however it doesnt take much for a straight male to (falsely) declare a new sexuality to win refuge status.

b. and if there was to be so much protection against discrimination of sexuality. the refugee application office wont be able to ask/question much about a applicants sexuality as trying to test if someone is truly being persecuted in their home country. then becomes discrimination by questioning it.

i just see this as being a loop hole of every straight immigrant declaring 'gay' to auto win refugee status

soon people wont need to marry a native to win a green card. they just play gay for a day.and governments cant question it

It really doesn't matter if you're actually gay or trans, only that you're being persecuted.  (It's possible to be persecuted for something that you aren't)

All this does is add LGBT+ to the list. (race, religion, nationality, membership in a social group or political opinion)

What I have a problem with is not the 10k or 30k or whatever they charge, they can charge me anything they want and I will decide for myself so that is not where the problem lies and I am fine with having that "option". The real problem is I pay let's say 30k right? And a few others do pay 30k as well, and then I look at the transaction ID and I see that there are 5 people like me who withdrew and most likely they paid 30k as well and then the transaction fee was paid 20k, which means they got 150k and only paid 30k, not even full price of one of those people, making them a hefty 130k profit.

They don't do do batch cashouts, at least not in my experience.  I guess it's possible, although unlikely, that if they had to do a review or something they might send a few in the same tx when review is complete, or the other outputs may belong to stake, but usually it's instant cashout and tx has 1  output.
