How do we can prevent it from the root level? Also, can I report those kind of topics to the moderator? PS: Tagging the user for the time being after posting the topic.

Your sense really says that both cases are similar? Seriously! Dude do me a favor, instead of advocating for xandry, why not you knock him/her and ask to just give a feedback on this post? May be a statement which says s/he and theymos had an understanding on this issue whatever it is, just a satisfactory answer from xandry can close all these illusions.

As a beginner and constantly learning about bitcoins.
Bitcoin prices are very unpredictable and hence it seems to me that investing in bitcoin is high risk.
I just wanted to know that is it a good idea to invest in Bitcoin in late 2018?
I am thinking to keep some money invested in bitcoins for at least 2 months. Will it be worth it?

Is Tman still around? I haven't seen him posting for ages. He didn't strike me as the sort of guy who would hide himself away.  I see him actively/silently giving merits to people but not making many posts around I guess. I admire his attitude although at the very beginning I used to thought he swears a lot LOL I even had a stupid topic(you know those early days activities smile) which I do not want to bring here (teeth seeing smile) |

I concur that the report field is far from perfect, and the suggestions you made sound great, however it does the job.
It does the job no doubt. My concern is to have a better user experience. Anyway, it's not a big deal yet. I am sure we have other priorities to look at than this like: Better way for account recovery, plagiarism problem, stopping posting bots etc. |

the captcha is not showing - and the message is to activate javascript - which of course IS activated and captcha on other sites works e.g. kraken site
Not sure about the root of the problem. Why not user other browser then like Google Chrome (may be you are already using it when you created this topic)? Hopefully you will have your answer from someone else on this thread. |

I haven't really said to use Google/forum search to find referral links this way because it's incredibly inaccurate. However, I have suggested using the CTRL+F on the patrol page for it as that has seemed to work for me. I also included that r= is a good way of spotting whether a link is a referral link. But, unfortunately there's many different identifiers for referral links. However, I'm struggling at the moment to come up with a way to precisely explain how they would look. For example, a ref link might be Bitcointalk.org/1646356. There's no real universal way to search for referral links via a search engine/forum search because of the varying identifiers.

One quibble, though, is that entering "r=" or "/r=" (with or without quotes) into a Google site-search or the forum's native search just returns results for "R" and that, of course, is totally useless. At least it does so for me.
It really does not matter. OP was explaining the referral link spamming things. In a URL, it could be anything depending on the developer of the site. However, most of the time we see like this: r= or ref= etc. Truth is, the variable can be anything even your or mine username like : mdayonliner= or MagicSmoker= |

The speculation threads are getting really annoying. Every day there's another handful of threads asking can bitcoin go to x this year?
I've suggested before that there should be warnings or the most commonly broken rules displayed at the top specific to the sub board they're about to post a new topic in. Ie in Bitcoin Discussion: Threads about the value of bitcoin don't belong here but in Speculation. Marketplace: Only bump your thread once every 24 hours etc. People tend not to pay attention to stickies and the more there is of them the less chance they have of reading them.
This idea of warnings is the best ever solution could do. This way people will think twice before writing something useless like we see on the topics that has no post for more than 120 days. |

I just finished reading the whole topic. Congrats mate for making it possible to bring everything in one place. You simplified this hard task with very easy instructions. Spot on for me including the Examples section... 6. When coming across Malware or a phishing site it's best to be as clear, and in depth as you can. This will prevent the moderator dealing with the report from being potentially compromised as well. When dealing with Malware it's always best to include any virus scans that flag positive for malware. A good site is virustotal.com which can scan URLs for known malware. If the malware is injected through code on a website then specify this also. Phishing sites can generally just be specified as a phishing site.
16. When reporting a user for having more than one active thread in the currency exchange section include a link to the other(s). I tend to report the least active threads. Otherwise, I just report the newer threads, and link to the older ones. The moderator can then decide on which ones to delete.
29. When reporting a personal message I would try to exclude admins unless it's a very important matter. If it's just for someone sending your spam then just include moderators/global moderators. Admins have several other duties such as account recoveries which your report would only hinder as its likely that the other moderators will deal with it anyway.
PS: I think, instead of the html text filed - we need html textarea for the enter comment section on the report to moderator page. The current text field does not help that much when you are going to write in details about the reason of your report like: 8. "Death threats/threats of physical harm. '<quote of threat>' HTML textarea example: <textarea rows="4" cols="50">
