2021  Economy / Lending / Re: LOAN to start a UK payment gateway on: October 28, 2012, 08:41:26 PM
i find it funny when reading these things. flaming and trolling someone who has a business plan like this guy does.

but then investing into people who want to consolidate their debt. basically paying one loan with a loan.

and also people wanting to buy BFL products knowing they wont start making money for months due to the the order/delivery delays.

though this guys plan would benefit the bitcoin community in the UK immensely. i still think that if he doesnt get it running due to no one giving him the loan then someone else should roll with the idea. i said roll not steal this time  Grin

Where has anything even remotely resembling a business plan been posted by the OP?  And why is the OP so intent on borrowing BTC when he could easily purchase the required BTC if he secured fiat funding?

It's people's desperation for certain services which makes it easy for scammers to proliferate.  The lack of options for people in the UK to trade GBP for BTC means that people are likely to latch onto the first service which pops up offering that.  The point of BitInstant is to get people's fund moved quickly.  If there are no exchanges offering GBP/BTC trades then such a service would be pointless and the OP is effectively talking about becoming an OTC Bitcoin trader in his own right.
2022  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario on: October 28, 2012, 05:25:05 AM

From what I understand nefario only had a couple thousand BTC in his wallet and the majority of the BTC was passed through to the asset issuer. Unless you have proof otherwise, I doubt there will be enough assets to recover from nefario to sue for in any court.

The funds which nefario has been returning to users are supposed to be user funds held by GLBSE, not funds held by the asset issuers.  None of the shareholders have suggested that GLBSE didn't have all the user funds it should have.  At the time GLBSE was closed the shareholders believed that GLBSE had user funds on hand plus some reserves of its own.  To the extent that there's a short-fall, it seem to have been caused only by nefario's overpayment of some people and if the majority of those coins have been recovered there is no reason whatsoever to delay resuming repayments.  There has never been a good reason to delay releasing the information needed for asset issuers and their users to communicate with each other until after the repayment process was completed.

A series of bad ideas becomes indistinguishable from scamming when you're literally announcing publicly that everything you're doing is legally fine and that representation is based on absolutely nothing because you haven't even bothered to seek legal advice before making publicly making that assurance.  Refusing to hand over the information needed for users and asset issuers to communicate with one another is just grand-standing and the delay in handing it over may even render that information useless.  nefario is absolutely responsible for the consequences of that decision.

People aren't going to try to sue nefario.  What they're far more likely to do if he continues to piss them off with his "fuck you" attitude is draw his activities to the attention of the very authorities he was hoping to avoid getting scrutiny from.
2023  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario on: October 28, 2012, 03:52:05 AM

I think nefario should name the guys that hold the money not theirs but are from other users. Keeping other glbse-users money isnt showing the best character. And they should at least now know that keeping it will in no way put pressure on nefario. Its not his money so...

I think James should stop using any remaining unreturned funds as an excuse for not putting asset-issuers and their users in contact with one another.  until he does that, he has no credibility whatsoever.  He's hardly in a position to take the moral high ground over unreturned funds when he's the one who is holding information which has nothing to do with his overpayment fuck-up hostage.

And if 3/4 of the overpayments have been returned then GLBSE should now have sufficient funds to make the remaining payments - they can do it out of the already returned overpayments and their own reserves.  James is the one trying to pressure people, not the reverse..  He is the one who loses if those funds aren't returned because there'll be no funds left to pay his salary/lawyer/weed bill/whatever.  He's acting out of pure self-interest here.

Naming and shaming people who haven't returned over-payments doesn't prove that they are holding the money of other users.  Nefario could only prove that by giving a complete financial accounting of BTC on hand and amounts still owed to users and I doubt there's anyone here who would trust any numbers he published because there's absolutely no way to verify them - he's not even letting the other shareholders verify what he's doing and could be paying his friends triple what they're owed for all you know.

All Nefario's SuperSekrit Stalled Until Further Notice repayment plan is likely to do is piss people off enough that they'll rain down upon him the very kind of legal problems he hoped to avoid by closing down GLBSE in the first place.

2025  Other / Meta / Re: [To Theymos] Why was Goat banned? on: October 27, 2012, 11:02:53 PM
Saying in a serious way that you are leaving should be autoban because either 1. You were leaving anyway 2. You are trolling.

No downside to anyone and might eliminate troll.

Can we also give people who do this a "flounce" tag?
2026  Economy / Goods / Re: Cutom Guitar Pick Poll on: October 27, 2012, 10:22:28 AM

Thanks for catching that, and the site does work, why are you going to stores.php? I don't have any stores besides this one.
Also, the site isn't 100% finished since I don't have stock just yet(not making that mistake again).

Remove the stores link if you don't have stores.  Remove all of the links which aren't going to lead to meaningful content.  If links are on your site, people will click them.  If they lead somewhere which is obviously still under construction - or even worse, showing raw code - it is going to affect their opinion of your business.

When you say "form data" are you talking about the content of posts and PMs?  I use Chrome and I've never had a problem with losing content if I hit the back button.

Yeah. Form data is lost with Firefox and IE when you hit the back button. I think this is the default behavior with HTTPS sites.

Weird.  I do get warnings with some sites that form data will need to be re-sent and others (like my bank and some government websites) won't let me use the back button at all, but I assumed that must be server side because it only happens with some HTTPS sites.
2028  Other / Meta / Re: The last posting from your IP was less than 20 seconds ago. Please try again lat on: October 27, 2012, 04:37:14 AM
I improved this. The max time between posts now changes depending on how many posts you have. If you have more than 100 posts, you can now post more frequently than every 20 seconds. The more posts you have, the lower the time, down to a minimum of 4 seconds.

Members with few posts now have to wait up to 6 minutes between posts. Does anyone know the best way to make it so that form data is not reset when hitting the back button? I think this happens just because the forum uses HTTPS. Can this behavior be changed?

I might actually increase this minimum time between posts later and increase the number of posts allowed hourly once the form issue is figured out.

2030  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer: Dank on: October 27, 2012, 02:48:38 AM

Yeah, it's definitely not DankGlass!

Are you admitting that you lied when you said that you'd abandoned DankGlass and that someone paid you to use the logo?  That would bring bad karma, dank.
2031  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MTGOX ordering DDOS ATTACKS!?!?!?!!? on: October 27, 2012, 12:34:03 AM
Folks, a semi-competent script kiddie can drop a billion IP packets on the internet directed to btc-e (for example) with any "from" address you want (like mt-gox).  All the responses will go to the "from" address... so its pretty useless for everything except DDOS attacks.  Smart routers might drop the packets, but I guess not in this case.

This is the most likely explanation...

The thing is that anyone competent would know that.  The fact that BTC-e support is accusing MtGox of organising a DDOS against them rather than assuming that it's just a script kiddie using the MtGox address for shit and giggles makes me question the technical knowledge and competence of BTC-e staff.

You need to fix up your website.  The "page not available" errors are annoying enough but it gets worse.

That's one hell of an accusation to make without evidence, and making it without proving it can only damage BTC-e's reputation.

Explain yourself BTC-e support.
2035  Economy / Goods / Re: Cutom Guitar Pick Poll on: October 26, 2012, 11:03:12 AM
There's no reason not to add Bitcoin as a payment option.  The market's obviously a niche one and wouldn't work as a Bitcoin only enterprise, but it's not as though adding Bitcoin as a payment option is going to be difficult or expensive, so why not?  Establishing a stable supply of quality products is going to be more important to your success than whether or not you accept Bitcoin.

You should talk to Dank. Maybe you two can work on his festival and you provide the picks.

I suspect that logansryche and dank in combination would cause a serious disturbance in The Force.

Good to see you back logansryche.
2038  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bounty for retrieving 3 Icarus from Wildemagic in Lightning Ridge Australia on: October 26, 2012, 08:15:35 AM
Changing reward to very early bASIC order for 2 54gh/s units (early 300s).  You get my place in line but will still have to reimburse me for the actual hardware cost.  If you prefer the 2 X6500s that offer is still on the table as well.  I just want some justice.

The Icarus don't have much value anymore so I want my 103btc back from Jon Allison (or $1250 if he has spent them as that was the value of BTC at the time).  If you live close to Lightning Ridge, and want the opportunity to be one of the early ASIC adopters, now is your chance.  I'm not asking you to be a vigilante just somebody on my behalf to go in person and talk to the local police and explain why/how he is a thief.  Judging by his posts he seems like a reasonable person and is only able to get away with this because I am halfway across the world and am unable to confront him about this in person (for now).

If you're interested please PM me.

It's not "theft".  The local police would be more than happy to tell you that non-payment for goods/services is a civil issue and that you need to pursue payment through small claims.  Even if it was a criminal issue, the complaint would have to come from the aggrieved party or their legal representative - the police would need to take the details from you.

Lightning Ridge is a small place, but it has a very transient population.  You'd be able to locate him if he's still there but it's not the kind of place where the locals are going to give a shit that someone didn't pay for something and it's the kind of place where confrontation with a local can quickly turn ugly.
2039  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Paypal just bent me over on: October 25, 2012, 10:45:20 PM

The auction was for a penny ( snail mailed), the bitcoins were free (digitally delivered).

I'm pretty sure there was another user here who was doing a similar thing with paper clips instead of pennies and they got shut down by PayPal too.

Why does everybody care about goat so much?

I don't think most people care about Goat.  What they want to know is whether there's some new, unwritten rule we all need to avoid breaking.
