2061  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Find Trendon Shavers in person thread... [BTCST, BTS&T, pirateat40] on: November 03, 2012, 06:28:20 PM
If anyone has been following the storm news, many communities surrounding NYC (in additional to the physical devastation) were with out power for most of the week.  Also most people who lived outside of the borough of Manhattan (reachable only by bridges or tunnels) had no access to the city with out a car before Wednesday.  Even with a car, and the mayors restriction to access with vehicle under 3 passengers, there was still hours of gridlock then cause many intrepid commuters to return home or not attempt to enter the city.

I understand power has been restored to most of lower Manhattan this weekend.

Hopefully their offices will be operational by Monday.

Absolutely.   Frankly it ALL comes down to perception.

Some places it is cows.

It used to be shells

Now it is cryptographic digital signatures.  It has value because those of use use use it say so.

Simple as that.

Good points Bitsky.

If you did nothing wrong sounds like you'd be an ideal candidate to be interviewed with the SEC.  Bitching and moaning on these channels is going to do nothing to recover your funds.  Just ask the MyBitcoin, Bitcoinica, Bitfloor creditors.

unverified anecdotal evidence suggests Trendon Shavers has secured and is in control of $1M USD in hard assets and is slowing cashing out and additional $500,000 worth of BTC.

I believe the $5M USD figure was based on interest income due on the actual principal investments which we now know never existed.

I understood it as scheme or schemata as in a database schema.  I didn't get the impression others felt that was a derogatory term.

Why PPT operators have to go SEC?
They from start said they just acting as pass-through only & if pirateat40 defaults, they also default.
Pirateat40 defaulted, so all other PPT's defaulted.
Game over PERIOD.

No one has to go to the SEC.  However if this was an option to recover funds, which the PPT's said they too lost, why would they not go to the SEC is the Bigger question.

What are you trying to scam?

the ENERGY and COST of mining gold coupled with it's limited availabiltiy as a natural resource is what makes it rare.

It is our perception of the value of gold that gives it value, whether we use it to make jewelry, or to hedge inflation.

This is an interesting  read.

The SEC does have certain "cooperation tools" at it's disposal which include a proffer agreements

"A proffer agreement allows the government to get information, usually from a witness, before a criminal trial starts. The government, however, cannot use the informant's testimony in court.  The government often uses this agreement with people under investigation to gain information that can help the government prosecute other crimes.

Misconceptions
Proffer agreements and immunity are not the same thing, according to U.S. Legal. The government can prosecute the proffer witness if information leads to new crimes or if the witness lies in his proffer statement.

Here is an interesting examination of the thorny issue of proffers:
