Awesome transaction with BCB again! Thank you BCB for trusting me. Excellent person and very professional!

I sent him few cents extra (84 cents to be exact), just to round off the transaction, and was not expecting any extra BTC for those 84 cents at all! However, to my surprise, he sent me BTC for that amount too!

Kodos to his professionalism.

2nd great trade with shibaji.

1164  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need some help on buying BTC and general info on: March 17, 2013, 10:15:26 PM
The value of bitcoin is essentially controlled by digital signatures stored in a distributed database called the blockchain.

Your wallet is a file that contain private keys.

Your wallet can be stored on:

                    1. a  hosted service.
                    2. a bitcoin client on your computer
                     3. Cold storage which is either a physical device not connected to the internet or a "paper wallet" (essentially the private written or printed on a piece of paper.

Whereever your private keys are stored they each have a corresponding public key (starting with the number 1) which is the "Bitcoin Address" we send bitcoin to and from.

You can send bitcoin to any one of your public keys regardless of where the corresponding private key is stored.

To buy stuff you essentially send your bitcoin to the public key of the person or business you are buying from.  In the back ground your bitcoin client essentially creates a digital signature that say you own these bitcoin and that you are sending them to to bitcoin address indicated.  Your client then broadcasts this transaction to the network and once it is confirmed by 6 nodes on the network (to avoid double spending) you transaction is complete and the control of the value of those bitcoin have effectively been passed from your address to the address you sent to.

You can keep you bitcoin on Mt. Gox however Mt gox is essentially a "hosted wallet" which is probably the least secure type of wallet.  Hosted companies can get hacked.  They can go out of business.  They can disappear.  It is best you move larger amounts of bitcoin to a more secure wallet.

If you store btc on you local computer.  1.  be sure to encrypt your wallet.  REMEMBER YOUR PASSWORD. And if you EVER loose the wallet.dat file from a corrupt or overwritten hard drive or any other issue, YOU BITCOINS ARE GONE FOREVER.

When you download the offical bitcoin qt client to you local computer you have to also down load the very large blockchain (in a process called syncing).  You can not see or spend any bitcoins you receive at an address stored on your local machine until you client is "synced".  The same is true if you turn your computer is off.  You client will have to catch up with the ever growing blockchain although after the initial download, it takes significantly less time to sync depending on how long you have been on line.

Here are other ways to secure a bitcoin wallet

blockchain.info/wallet is a very popular and secure hosted wallet.

Good luck
1165  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can someone build this great BitCoin gifting website idea? on: March 17, 2013, 10:10:37 PM
MiracleRiver

That is a GREAT idea.

You biggest hurdle is going to be trust.  Who holds these bitcoin private keys and how do you know that person/entity will be reputable and honest  and STILL in business when the trust comes due.

Some one could buy a child or a niece or nephew or grandchild BTC to use as a college fund.

You just want to be certain that the accumulated value of that BTC(not counting price variation) is still available 5, 10, 18 years after you made the deposit.

I did get hit with a charge back.

Guess what.  I won!

BTC_Bear I'm not going to comment on the moral ambiguity of my response to Tim Wheat's continued scamming other then to say my interaction with him gave me great pleasure.

I just call it bitcoin justice

1174  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [ANNOUNCE] ZIGGAP now offering Cash Bill Pay as a payment method! (Walmart, CVS) on: March 15, 2013, 10:45:11 PM
Just purchased 2 btc on ziggap for 103.57.  Mt Gox last price at the time was 47.  I believe there was a two dollar markup and a 3.95 fee for an effective rate of Mt Gox Last plus 10.2%.

Ziggap uses the MoneyGram bill payment system through Zipzap.

The new Ziggap Site was slick and easy to use.  They do ask for personal info.  Name, Address, Phone, Email.

Once I made the MoneyGram bill payment I got an email for Ziggap and Zigzap  confiring the the payment had been completed.  The Btc was then promptly delivered to the btc address I had provided.

Nice Job.

1175  Other / Meta / Re: This forum is infested with scammers on: March 15, 2013, 06:58:46 PM
How about a surety system instead of a rating system?
Could you elaborate? Alternative to ratings would be nice to hear about.
Merchants and traders who want to be bonded create a 2 of 3 multisig address with the other two parties being a bond company and an escrow company and publicly advertise this balance.

In the event of a dispute, the customer can take their case to the bond company and escrow company who then can release damages paid from the bond balance.

Merchants who want to build up a good reputation have to start small, and should be advised to invest some percentage of their gross into the bond so that customers will be willing to trust them with increasingly larger amounts. When they are ready to cash out they can have the funds released after a pre-negotiated waiting period so that existing customers have time to move their business before the bond protection runs out.

Smart customers will never risk more in a trade than the bond is worth, or else will negotiate for better terms for high risk transactions.

Interesting.  Only trade with bond sellers.
1176  Other / Meta / Re: This forum is infested with scammers on: March 15, 2013, 06:18:26 PM
You can't help those how can't help themselves.

I'm for a scammer committee.  Two or three trusted member or maybe more then you have an x of y votes to apply the tag.

Some guys can be VERY aggressive.    I know I jump the gun on occasion.  But I think it would work pretty well.  I would also put the community on notice that their trades are being policed.

We would also have to define SCAMMER.

My opinion it is a person who does not uphold their end of a deal after a period of time.  The scammer thread it a place to publicly debate it and if the scammer make good the tag gets removed.

I DO NOT think welshing on a bet is scamming.  So after the whole MNW debacle, even those he's an cocky arrogant asshole, I don't think he was a scammer.  But the scammer tag did seem to silence him.  So that was a good thing.

Just my 2c
