2061  Bitcoin / Press / 2015-10-06 The Drum - Bitcoins are a waste of energy - literally on: October 06, 2015, 05:44:47 AM
Vast amounts of electricity go into feeding the Bitcoin delusion. Fortunately, it's unlikely that the digital currency will survive long enough to generate the environmental disaster that would arise if it became a major part of the financial system, writes John Quiggin.

Unusually, the comments are more intelligent than the article, though that's not saying much.

The problem is that Google's timeservers are actually different from real time.
False. I just checked and all of Google's time servers exactly agree with the NIST and US Naval Observatory. Which is not surprising since a) I set all my clocks by the NIST, not Google, yet Google Authenticator works for me and b) why the Hell would Google use their own time standard? That doesn't make any sense.

But I am only one guy on this forum, and she may have better success with others.
I also have failed, and join the honourable post-deletion club.

1. I'm not a hypocrite. I believe in censorship. I even said I did. I believe in censorship when people are posting rude and unnecessary commentary because it is a form of cyberbullying. I am okay with censoring cruelty, not constructive criticism. There's a difference between the two.
Unlike victims of actual cyberbullying, you're here by choice. You voluntarily joined this community, and knew (or ought to have known) its standards of behaviour and the types of people who are tolerated here. If you don't like it here, you are free to leave at any time.

2. I would never say my posts reflect or deny my knowledge consistently. I don't want to consistently portray myself as a person that is very serious most of the time.
Your posts do not reflect any knowledge beyond that of how to pound on a keyboard. There is a difference between "not being very serious" and "behaving like a child".

I made a mistake. Humans do that sometimes.
Humans sometimes learn from their mistakes.

4. I'm trying to figure out when I ever did that. Give an example of me demanding something?
For example, the demands you made of Vod.

5. Yeah. I bumped my threads a lot and now I see that this is also wrong, and I won't do it ever again. It's not like I was told what not to do when I joined.
You're supposed to read the rules before you join.

6. Some people are curious about my sex life. Some people are not. It's not against forum rules to post about a sexual topic as long as I post an NSFW tag. If you don't like it, just don't click on it and upset yourself even more.
Some people are curious about what I've been eating recently but I don't make several threads a day about it. Or bump and rename the same thread; it's hard to tell when you're involved. Save that shit for social media.

7. That's just based off of your own personal belief. Some people actually find my posts useful.
The vast majority of your posts are not useful to anyone.

9. Really? I'm selfish? I don't really believe a person that's selfish would give out free jewelry. Scroll to the bottom.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1197410.20
You're not giving out free jewellery, you're selling it for profit. Why do you lie?

I'm obnoxious? Well okay. You don't want to deal with my "crap"? Uh...okay. You're contradicting yourself by posting to me.
Sometimes I do things I don't want to do in the hope of benefiting other people. I don't expect you to understand why. This behaviour is indeed contradictory to a selfish person, but not to me.

And hey I'd snap a photo of my degree if my phone will stop with the messages every time you guys keep posting to me. I get alerts straight to my phone, I type with my phone, and I take pictures with my phone. As soon as my phone stops going off, snapping a photo will not be interrupted.
That's what aeroplane mode's for.

I have 1,539 users on my ignore list. You're number 1,494. The use of it is that I no longer have to put up with your arrant nonsense. For someone who doesn't want any trouble, you sure go out of your way to create it.
What did I do?

  • You're a hypocrite. You complain that others deleting your posts or blocking your PMs is "censorship" (it isn't, by the way), yet every one of your own threads is self-moderated and you delete posts that don't agree with your opinions.
  • You're a liar. Your claims of expertise in various fields are not only extremely implausible, the content of your posts betray a profound ignorance of those fields. Nobody believes anything you have to say, and you don't need to be a psychologist to figure out why.
  • You tried to buy trust, then acted surprised people called you on it.
  • You make unreasonable demands of others, then get upset when they don't comply.
  • You bump your threads incessantly, which is so annoying there is actually a rule against it.
  • You make posts about your sex life that nobody wants to hear about.
  • The rest of your posts are almost always entirely without useful or even sensible content.
  • You keep doing these things despite being asked not to.
  • All in all, you're selfish, immature, and so obnoxious that nobody wants to deal with your crap.

I'm still positive I'm correct, since there's really nothing else that can go wrong. The code is (basically) just a hash of the secret plus the current time, so either the program's calculating the hash incorrectly (unlikely if you've tried multiple programs that nobody else has reported a problem with), the secret was entered incorrectly (unlikely as you used a QR code), or your time is wrong (which is pretty easy to screw up). To be absolutely sure, set your time zone to UTC and go to time.gov. In Linux, the system clock (as displayed in the BIOS setup) is normally meant to be UTC and corrected to local time by user applications, but it's configurable so maybe Tails does something weird in that regard. Setting everything to UTC should eliminate any such issues. If your clock agrees with the NIST to within a few seconds and you still can't get it to work, then besides making sure the secret was entered correctly (but I'm not sure how it couldn't be) I'm out of ideas.

Note that they only appear in the centre of craters and other surface irregularities. This suggests they are places where meteorite impacts and other damage have scratched off the paint, exposing the shiny metal underneath.
2070  Other / Off-topic / Re: Turning Offtopic into a public sex chat on: October 04, 2015, 09:51:21 AM
I have no objections to turning this section into a public sex chat, provided that everyone involved is at least as mature as a 14-year-old virgin (needless to say, codishmumu does not meet this requirement).
2071  Other / Off-topic / Re: Lets play a game of Chess on: October 04, 2015, 06:17:15 AM
I can't follow what you're saying at all. We play e5 after Black recaptures, forking the knight and recapturing piece. There is only one way for Black to save both pieces, and it significantly worsens his position.

Right, that is why I'm saying Bf4 is not a good move. Although I see no reason why we would ever move Bxd6 in response to Bd6

Quote
If instead we play e5 on move 22 things are better for black
Um, what about the reason you just quoted?
2072  Other / Off-topic / Re: Lets play a game of Chess on: October 04, 2015, 04:21:36 AM
Bf4 will allow Bd6.
But Black would never make such a bad move. 22. Bxd6 Qxd6 (22... Rxd6 loses material to e5) 23. e5 Qd5 (the only way to save both forked pieces) and the f6 knight is forced to retreat next move.

21. Bf4 followed by 22. Ne5 (unless 21... c4, obviously) works for me.

1 vote for Ne1 (dre1982)
1 vote for Bf4 (Foxpup)

Are your time zone and system clock set correctly (to within 30 seconds)? They need to be for Google Authenticator (or anything using the same protocol) to work.

I like 19. Rd2.

We have to move our queen and then he can take on d3 next move.
Unless we move the queen straight back to b3, defending the pawn. Still, trading a knight for two pawns isn't the best idea ever (especially when one of the pawns is a rook's pawn).
2078  Other / Off-topic / Re: How many sexual partners have you had? (NSFW) on: September 30, 2015, 05:46:42 AM
Because most people seem nice at first, I've honestly had a lot of sex. About 34 partners, and had sex about 100 or so times.
That's nothing to brag about. Just going by the numbers, it takes an average of 3 fucks for you to realise that most people aren't as nice as they first seem. Does it occur to you to get to know people better before fucking them?
2079  Other / Off-topic / Re: Lets play a game of Chess on: September 30, 2015, 04:32:48 AM
Was 14.a5 really that bad? (just asking)
It perhaps wasn't that bad, but it definitely created a weakness that Black's wasted no time taking advantage of.

Esp someone as gifted as the OP, who can get a masters degree in psychology at age 23!   Roll Eyes

Quote
That requires a bachelors degree (3-5 years) and M.D (4 years) plus an internship and residency (together usually 3-5 years) before licensing.
So she would have to have graduated high school at age 13 at the latest, which is clearly impossible. Unless...

OP-wa Chiyo-chan desu ka?!
