1761  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Want to join a signature campaign on: August 15, 2016, 03:21:35 PM
I just finished reading your post history, and in my opinion the quality of the historical posts from your account is somewhere between 0% and 10%.
Really? Ten percent? You reckon there may be as many as five quality posts in his history? I think your standards are dropping. Tongue

I count exactly zero and would have ignored him already if he had posted anywhere I actually care enough to read. (I don't ignore people based on their signatures, yet nearly everyone I do ignore has or eventually obtains a paid sig. Isn't that interesting?)
1762  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about topics on: August 14, 2016, 08:06:42 AM
No.

12. No duplicate posting in multiple boards (except for re-posting it in the local language boards if it's translated).
1763  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Issues with coin control... on: August 14, 2016, 03:46:32 AM
It's only available when using coin control and you've already selected your inputs. Otherwise how can you even know what a good total fee is?
1764  Other / Off-topic / Re: Beach female photos - look here - 116 pcs on: August 11, 2016, 07:07:53 AM
Alright, rule number one of dressing sexy: expose the parts of your body that are sexy, cover the parts of your body that you want people to think are sexy. The latter part is why lingerie is sexier than nudity, and why unattractive people are less so the more they wear. Large women can look sexy, but not by wearing a bikini!

I don't understand this "every body is a bikini body" thing. It's a complete falsehood. There is a certain body type that looks good in a bikini. Other body types look good in other types of swimwear. You do your body (and everyone seeing it) a disservice when you try to wear the wrong thing because you feel you have to.
1765  Other / Meta / Re: Q: Should Lauda *really* be a moderator of bitcointalk A: no on: August 11, 2016, 06:25:52 AM
I think you need to look up what ad-hominem means. This is you attacking the person delivering the message instead of the argument itself. You are saying that I am a scammer (which is libel), and therefore whatever I say should be ignored, despite the fact that my arguments are easily independently verified.
I think you're the one who needs to look it up. Argumentum ad hominem is fallacious only inasmuch as the personal attack is irrelevant to the argument in question, that is, it is a logical non sequitur. But the argument that "scammers are not to be trusted, you are a scammer, therefore you are not to be trusted" is perfectly valid logic, so if you want to refute it, you'll have to disprove the premises. 1766  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Remember when Bitcoin was new and..... on: August 11, 2016, 04:57:00 AM
and sig campaigns.  Did those exist in 2011?
No. It was a wonderful time of joy and innocence, with ignore lists populated by kooks and trolls instead of spammers. Oh, how I yearn for those days.

You know of course that in 2020 we could all be looking back fondly on 2016.  I am hoping that happens.
I hope not. That would mean the future's even worse! Undecided
1767  Other / Meta / Re: Q: Should Lauda *really* be a moderator of bitcointalk A: no on: August 10, 2016, 04:40:49 AM
I do not know who Lauda is exactly and what she or he did but it can be an interesting and also dangerous to ask forum members about distributing responsibilities of the forum admins, moderators. I prefer admins who are not strict pedagogue.
I truly failed to understand the meaning of this post (I've even asked other people for interpretation). Care to elaborate?
Don't bother. He's on my ignore list not (just) for being a notorious sig spammer, but because he somehow makes less sense than a Markov text generator.
1768  Other / Meta / Re: Illiterate sig spammers on: August 10, 2016, 04:24:05 AM
Third is that even people who are only spamming can be fine for forum and if they leave here the forum may lose a big part of its users and its popularity.
No, you are not fine for the forum. If you leave here, nothing of value will be lost. Posts like that one are exactly what I'm talking about (I couldn't even understand the rest of it).
1769  Other / Meta / Re: ☞The ONLY Thing I Donot LIKE ABOUT Bitcointalk Forum on: August 09, 2016, 02:28:05 AM
Yes, links can take you to other sites. That's what they're there for, after all. This isn't AOL. Are you sure you know how the Internet works?
1770  Other / Meta / Re: Illiterate sig spammers on: August 07, 2016, 03:53:44 AM
When somebody is literate enough to access the internet and understand bitcoin, he can make a lot more than minimum wage.
Yet neither literacy nor understanding Bitcoin appear to be requirements for joining a signature campaign, which is the problem in the first place.
1771  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: how to import/upgrade really old wallet.dat file? on: August 06, 2016, 07:28:43 AM
"upgradewallet" is no longer listed in the available commands when I type "help".
It's not an RPC command, it's a command-line argument. Run Bitcoin Core by entering "bitcoin-qt -upgradewallet" at a command prompt.
1772  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitfinex HACKED - funds stolen ! on: August 03, 2016, 11:12:36 AM
they probably walked off with the funds themselves....multisig wallets my ass..they never multisig'd anything or the funds would be there
I don't think so. I very much doubt Bitfinex is directly responsible, because indeed they never used multisig - BitGo did, and they did it in a ludicrously negligent way. BitGo (claims they) can't access the user's private keys, but they do control the browser-based signing code the users run. BitGo (or anyone who has access to their servers) can serve malicious code to steal the client's keys, giving them the 2 of 3 keys needed to steal the money. This would also explain why some user's wallets haven't been touched - they can only steal from users who logged in using the malicious code. I'll bet you bitcoins to blueberries that's how it went down.
1773  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitfinex. Will they cover the 65 million dollar BTC Theft or just fold? on: August 03, 2016, 10:03:27 AM
I'm more interested in how the hacker managed to get the money out of a multi-signature implementation.
My money's on BitGo being compromised. They used a unique 2-of-3 scheme in which they have (or can get) access to 2 of the keys. At least they did two years ago, and I as far as I know nobody heeded the warnings that this was a stupid idea. Roll Eyes
1774  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you think life will be in 2050? on: August 02, 2016, 02:39:33 AM
Americasia continues its nuclear bombing of uninhabited areas as part of a special program to reverse global warming via nuclear winter. This program has attracted opposition from climate change deniers, though scientists have high hopes that the Earth will once again be able to support natural plant life (most species of which are extinct, with agriculture now wholly dependant on genetically-engineered drought-resistant crops).

The bombing couldn't have come at a better time. A few years ago, the fallout would have poisoned millions of people, but with the invention of the holodeck, combined with existing automated retail goods delivery, nobody ever goes outside anymore. Some have questioned humanity's reliance on technology for its very survival, but their views have been dismissed as unrealistic and ignorant of history.
1775  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Accidentally sent a transaction with only 0.00008851 fee on: August 02, 2016, 01:58:02 AM
or it was 2270 bytes which is why I wanted to see the tx id.
Or you could do the math and see that 2,270 bytes doesn't add up. That would have a fee of 0.00088505 (or the fee per kb would be 0.00038991).
1776  Other / Off-topic / Re: whats up with the word "secret" secret societies, secret area 51 on: August 01, 2016, 05:18:02 AM
A "secret" society is not one that nobody knows about (a tall order), but one where the public can't even guess what goes on inside. While all groups have secrets - a sports team doesn't want the opposing teams knowing its game plan, for example - we generally have a fairly good idea of what they're keeping secret and why. But very few people know what goes on at a Masonic Lodge, or Bohemian Grove, or Area 51, so they assume something sinister.

Area 51 is an odd example because its true nature is publicly known - it's a section of the Nellis Air Force Range used for testing experimental aircraft. The actual details of this testing are Top Secret, of course, and you wouldn't expect that to be controversial (you want the Chinese and the Russians and whoever to find out about new U.S. aircraft?), but for some reason people think there's more going on. I guess people catching a glimpse of the tests mistook the aircraft for UFOs, and the Air Force can't just come out and say what they really are, so now everyone thinks there's aliens there.
1777  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Accidentally sent a transaction with only 0.00008851 fee on: August 01, 2016, 04:26:56 AM
Sent some coins from my Electrum wallet and for some reason Dynamic fee with 75% multiplier so 0.00038989 BTC/kb was the fee.
It sent 0.0008851 (actually 0.00008851) fee for the transaction and its been about an hour with no confirmation.
I think this fee is way too low? What are my chances of this getting confirmed and what are my next steps if it doesn't show up by say, tomorrow morning?

Secondly, what should I set the fee to in my Electrum wallet?
It seems a little silly to let people send something with a fee that won't get your transaction confirmed...  Cry

can't tell you and no one else can tell you since none of us know how big the tx id is.
I can tell you, since I know how to read and do elementary arithmetic. Roll Eyes Correcting for the misplaced decimal point in the OP's post, it's 227 bytes.

OK it took a couple hours but it got confirmed.
Yes, a couple of hours is to be expected for that fee.

1. what determines the size of a transaction? Wouldn't most transactions be the same amount of bytes?
The only thing I can think that would change the size would be sending to multiple addresses.
That and the number of inputs to your transaction, that is, the transactions in which you received the coins that you are now sending (if you received them in many transactions, eg, from faucets, your transactions will be larger and require larger fees).

2. what method do you use to determine fees? I've seen some websites that do some calculation but I was pretty confused after reading them lol.  Roll Eyes
It's simple. You just look at past transactions that confirmed quickly (within a given number of blocks) and see what fees they paid on average. Since there are a lot of transactions to look at, it's best to have your software do it automatically.

I was wondering what you were smoking. The Church of Satan would be interested to know too. Undecided
1779  Other / Meta / Re: Illiterate sig spammers on: July 30, 2016, 08:12:03 AM
If you can't write in a given language, your posts (the content of which spammers could give a shit about) are going to come out garbled and indecipherable.
The thing is, that's not my experience at all. If a person can write in any language at all (and is trying to), it shows. Bad English written (as opposed to auto-translated) by someone who is literate in their native language will typically have a logical grammar even if that grammar isn't English, and spelling and vocabulary errors will be consistent (to the point where it's often possible to identify their native language by the kind of errors they're making in English). It's not hard to tell the difference between someone who just doesn't know English and someone who just doesn't give a shit. The former are in the minority on this forum.
