2161  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 20-Year-Old Robinhood Customer Dies By Suicide After Seeing A $730,000 Negative on: June 20, 2020, 11:07:20 PM
Sure it will cripple your whole economy and you would be living probably in poverty for majority of your life just to be able to pay it back

Go bankrupt. That's the point of it. It'll screw with aspects of your life for quite a long time but it's far from the end of the world. Millions of people do it around the world. If you're looking at a debt that'll take more than 3-5 years to pay off that's the recommended option.

https://www.debt.org/bankruptcy/

Fortunately none of us have to spend the rest of our lives paying back debts. If it was so people like Mark Karpeles would be splitting rocks or plowing fields for a few lifetimes Cheesy

Most debts expire after a few years. I think in most EU countries it's between 3 and 5.

The worst thing they can do to you is seize whatever money you have in the bank and the property that's yours alone. They can't even take property you share with someone else like a spouse.
2162  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Have you ever made a deposit and haven't received it in your account? on: June 20, 2020, 10:41:13 PM
I always had a complete order with the deposit, because I work with a trusted broker Amarkets.

Thank you very much for that shameless plug.  Angry

I once had a transfer not appear on my account but it was quickly resolved by support. If anything doesn't go through and is in the blockchain it's usually a problem in communication between the wallet and the database of the exchange. They have the money you're just can't see it on your account.

2163  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Decade of investment on: June 20, 2020, 10:29:40 PM
Kind of unfair to scale the ROI like that when you're only sampling from the winner's circle. Think survivor bias: you seldom hear of adventurer's tales that end in death.

I know a different but similar one:
Success has a lot of fathers but failure is an orphan.

There's a similar or even higher number of people who lost money investing in Bitcoin but most of them will not come here to tell us their stories out of fear of being treated like idiots and losers but all those teenage bitcoin millionaires run from one news site to the other sharing their life stories.

If we only knew what investmenst were profitable we would all have longed google, tesla, facebook and shorted lehman brothers.
2164  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Another way to hide your Seed and Private Keys on: June 20, 2020, 10:18:06 PM
I agree with the above. It makes it harder for you and someone you trust like a family member to get access to the money and to a thief who has days to crack your seed it's going to be just another puzzle.

Can you imagine your mother decoding it? Who would do it faster your mother or a group of 20 year old thieves who robbed your house and found the code?

Security is important but backing your seed on a piece of paper isn't even if you encode it. You'll be safer with an encrypted or password protected file.
2165  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How is the HALVING working out for you ??? Remember all the predictions ???? on: June 20, 2020, 10:00:02 PM
How is the BitCion Halving working out for everyone ?

Having trouble with writing it the right way?

I can see you're trying so hard to troll the forum and get angry reactions from people here, but even deliberately changing Bitcoin's name doesn't seem to work out for you. What a shame Embarrassed

It's working out great for me. Before the halving Bitcoin was in a bear market and now it's holding steady between 8500 and 9500 dollars. Not a bad value if you ask me, someone who got in years ago.
2166  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Las Vegas Casinos are open - end of the Pandemic era. on: June 20, 2020, 09:51:35 PM
Your life was never in any danger. Not in a danger from this pandemic at least.

If you're not over 60 years old you have nothing to fear and if you are there's no reason why you should go gamble in a casino. Rent out a boat and go fishing or something and have one less thing to worry about.

It's good they're opening casinos. Every person should measure their own risk and be able to choose. I'm tired of the government choosing for me.

Children as young as thirteen have died after contracting Covid-19.  Your statement is factually not true.  I'll stop short of saying it is a lie, but it is seriously incorrect.

What proof do you have that it's covid19 that killed them and not asthma, cancer or whatever else they had going on at the same time?
Take a look at this
https://www.statista.com/statistics/1105061/coronavirus-deaths-by-region-in-italy/

Out of 237 thousand cases there were 4 deaths of children and no teenagers. Only 15 people age 20-29 have died. The same numbers can be found if you compare this to seasonal flu statistics.
2167  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why it’s important to avoid telling everyone about your crypto holdings on: June 19, 2020, 10:24:34 PM
I stopped telling people about it not because I was afraid but because they were asking me about scams, deep web, tax evasion and things like that.

The word Bitcoin to an average worker like your typical gardener or plumber is scary and usually a understood as a tool for hackers or some child porn addicts.

People will kill you for money that's true but there's not much difference in driving that tesla without the bitcoin license plate or with it. To a criminal you will still look like you have a bag of cash under the bed.
2168  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Selfmade Legendary member after 2+ years on: June 19, 2020, 10:14:39 PM
You went like a rocket there. Just 1 month to get SrMember and another 2 months to get to hero, so you got like 250 merit in 2 months. Crazy!

I get maybe 5 merit a month. Not complaining, just envious! Tongue

Good job and keep those scam busting topics coming.
2169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should we invest in a bitcoin exchange? on: June 19, 2020, 09:57:34 PM
Try to start your own exchange but remember that 10 thousand or 20 thousand to build it is not enough.

You need money in the bank so that when your first client comes and wants to sell his coins you have enough money to buy it from him. You need some startup money or you'll go bust in no time. I'm talking big money like 500 thousand USD at least.

You need secure servers, some trusted people to start a business with because an exchange doesn't run unsupervised and you arren't going to be there 24/7, a physical location for an office and so on.
2170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Police Arrest on: June 19, 2020, 09:35:42 PM
When you run something like that at work sooner or later you're going to get caught because people will tell on you.

You will get into an argument with one of your co-workers or somebody will do it out of envy.

It was a very risky operation. He was too greedy and got caught. I don't think it was worth the profit.
2171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is More Popular Than Traditional Banks on: June 19, 2020, 09:15:46 PM
And even with that target audience and paying them in BTC they only managed a victory of 51% to 49% over banks?  Grin

Not all people who register to read about Bitcoin would trust it over banks. The sad truth is many people in the space just want to make fiat money trading bitcoin and dump it when they're done with it.

There's a long way from trusting Bitcoin over banks to Bitcoin becoming more popular than banks.

I trust Bitcoin more but I still get my wage sent to the bank and use the bank to pay my bills and buy groceries every day.
2172  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Las Vegas Casinos are open - end of the Pandemic era. on: June 19, 2020, 09:00:32 PM
My brother was at the opening day. He said that the halls were crowded, a lot of people came, it was really packed.
<snip>
Then there is a possibility in the spread of corona virus, this  was the reason I said our lives is more precious than the fiat for rewards. Possibly the environment might have gotten or include one or more participant who might be a victim of the virus. Though life is a choice and we all have our individual or collective responsibility to watch our lives. Safety won't work in such a place like casino and we all know this but ignored the advise of the expert. Hope there won't be another wave of this pandemic due to human negligence.

Your life was never in any danger. Not in a danger from this pandemic at least.

2173  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is bitcoin worth so much ? on: June 19, 2020, 08:51:15 PM
It's worth so much because people want it to be. In short, there's a demand.

Diamonds used to be worthless but then a demand for them came and their price skyrocketed. There are more beautiful gems out there and ones that used to be valuable long before like emaralds but diamonds are what women crave to have on their rings because 'fashion' Tongue
2174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Future of Crytopcurrency on: June 18, 2020, 10:36:31 PM
The obvious explanation is that cryptocurrency is the future but not in its current state.

Banks and governments want to stay in control so the only cryptocurrency they'll ever accept is a centralized one.

Decentralized cryptoptos like Bitcoin will be a currency of people like us who want to use it because it not controlled by the government but we will always be the minority.
2175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin trading in India is on fire on: June 18, 2020, 10:29:05 PM
If this continues, with the way Indian's are going about bitcoin trading. The Indian market is likely to hold a great potential and importance for the future of the crypto economy. Since people in India is betting big on bitcoin

Take note. When a person is trading bitcoin, it doesn't automatically mean that he's betting that bitcoin will get big. It could be the case that a certain person is only trading bitcoin just to take advantage of the high volatility, and just mainly to take money. I personally could frequently trade XRP and at the same time think that it's a completely useless project.

It can also mean that someone is buying coins to purchase products unavailable for fiat money or wants to move money abroad with some more anonymity than he'd have with bitcoin.

He could be paying hookers and telling his wife that he's trading for all that we know.

Bitcoin is still only a speculative asset for most investors. Not many people have the brains and the courage to hold.
2176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cardano inquiry on: June 18, 2020, 10:12:51 PM
I think the reason people rate Cardano very high is because of Charles Hoskinson who was one of the main developer behind Ethereum in the early days. If by now Cardano has not released major project on its platform, then I don't think people would want to migrate to their platform again especially in a crowded market like this

It's also why it's being called its killer. This is a supposed to be aggressive advertising.

Charles had a disagreement with Vitalik and they don't like each other too much. He made Cardano to be a competition but was a bit too late because Ether had already exploded.

Quote
Soon after, disagreements arose about how to structure the project. "It was a boardroom brawl," he says. Hoskinson wanted to accept venture capital and create a for-profit entity with a more formal governing structure. Buterin wanted to keep Ethereum a nonprofit organization with an open-source, decentralized governance. Hoskinson left Ethereum in June 2014.
"At the time I was pretty pissed off," says Hoskinson, 30. "Ether went up [to a market cap of] $120 billion, so what the hell do I know?"
2177  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is this considered cheating? or Ilegal? on: June 18, 2020, 09:54:38 PM
This is the hashed result using a SHA512 calculator

Are you able to recheck the hash with SHA 256?

Have you tried it?
If it does match this isn't such a big issue that they had a typo in the explanation.

0.4 BTC is not a small amount. Despite the loss you're somewhat lucky if it is small for you.
2178  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Vietnam bursts an illegal casino who used to handle bets worth $3 billions on: June 18, 2020, 09:43:56 PM
This is another reason why I believe gambling should be legalized on places where there is a huge demand for such. Business operators and gamblers would always find a way to satisfy their needs, and oftentimes would resort into illegal things just to satiate their hunger to gamble and make money. Operators and investors know that there is money to be made, and since these ventures aren't wholly legal and tax isn't an issue, they would try their best to hide it and profit big from it. End result is that people make money and the government does not.

Would be nice for Vietnam to open a city and develop it as a gambling hotspot. The demand is there, the initiative and acceptance however, isn't.

I strongly believe that gambling should be legal in every country but unfortunately it is not. Illegal things also make money for the government but it has to do more work by shutting them down and seizing assets.

That casino operator knew what he was getting into and did not regioster his operation because there was no other way to operate in Vietnam. Illegal things are usually in demand and this is a rule everywhere you go.

I'm sure he made a lot of money from it before he was shut down.
2179  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WILL ALTS EVER DECOUPLE FOM BITCOIN? on: June 18, 2020, 09:38:26 PM
There are two ways altcoins work.
They follow bitcoin in its ups and downs or they look like they're decoupled and can pump on their own but when bitcoin goes down they go down as well.
The first action is typical for most strong altcoins and weaker altcoins with lower market cap often choose the second one.

I don't think altcoins will ever completely decouple from bitcoin.
2180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is a Bad Safe Haven Asset on: June 16, 2020, 10:15:00 PM
Cryptocurrencies are not seen as safe haven assets equivalent to gold, US dollars or state debt obligations.

Do you mean bonds? I can't believe you're comparing Bitcoin to dollars or bonds.

How much can you earn from holding fiat currency or bonds? Nothing.

Holding USD: -2% a year.
Bonds maybe up to 10% a year but your money is frozen for 10 years.
Savings account +2% a year in countries with low inflation. If inflation rises above 3% you get nothing.

Now with Bitcoin:
Bought in January 2020 > you're up 30%
Bought in January 2019 > up 60%
