Maybe you can buy all their old GPU's on the cheap?   Grin
222  Other / Off-topic / Re: Upgrading jalapeno to little sc preorder? on: October 28, 2012, 06:41:11 PM
Yeah.  I think you have to make it as easy for them as possible.  Include your order number, date you ordered, etc...  Jody from BFL sometimes takes a while to reply, but she's always come through for me eventually.
223  Economy / Marketplace / Re: ["WAIT LIST"] BFL SC Pre-Order Information on: October 28, 2012, 06:34:19 PM
Thats why I have my order delivered to my office, to eliminate as many possible screw ups as I can.

If I were spending 30k on a rig the size of a trashcan, I wouldn't be trusting delivery anywhere.  I'd buy a $150 ticket to BFL and fly it back home personally.

you have a personal plane?

Good one. Roll Eyes
224  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin payment processor? on: October 27, 2012, 04:06:36 PM
That's a good question. I don't use the autosell feature so I'm not sure. Let me know if you get an answer! One of the reasons I haven't used the autosell is because I assumed that it'd have to wait for the 6 confirmations, so if there was a fire-sale due to falling valuation I could get stuck losing on each transaction.

You'll be stuck anyway, unless I guess you manually sell your own buffer BTC's in an amount equally to what you received in your MtGox with 0 confirms.
225  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin payment processor? on: October 27, 2012, 02:16:57 AM
So if the purchaser doesn't have a Gox account, they will simply pay in BTC and then, assuming the autosell option is on, they will be sold for dollars after 6 confirms.  Do you know if the vendor already has enough BTC as a buffer in his Gox account, can the autosell happen instantly?  Example...

I have a Gox account with 20 BTC and a non-Gox buyer purchases a product for 10 BTC.  10 of my 20 BTC are sold and the 10 from the purchaser get credited to my account, meaning I have 10 BTC + 10 BTC with no confirms.  Is there any way to make this work if it doesn't work that way already?
226  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin payment processor? on: October 26, 2012, 01:41:50 PM
I'm having trouble setting this up.
Has anyone used this before?

I'm using a host where I can automatically add the carts to my database/server I don't have to FTP upload them. I cant get these plugins to work, even when I upload using an FTP. I did the mtgox one, and I need API keys, or something.

If you got the MtGox plugin successfully installed in Magento (you should see a "Bitcoin" option under System -> Configuration -> Payment Methods) then you'll need to enter your MtGox info there. You can get an API key by logging into MtGox and going to Security Center -> Advanced API Key Creation. It'll need Deposit and Merchant permissions.

The documentation was a little sparse and I had to code up my own currency import modules. But all's working.

Do you know how one could use Magento along with the Mt Gox merchange API system, where users can pay without being members of Mt Gox?
227  Economy / Service Discussion / Mail a check for USD for BTC - Testing the waters on: October 25, 2012, 04:02:47 PM
I am thinking about opening up a web store that will essentially sell checks via mail for BTC.  Users would need to be in the United States and checks would go out M-F.  As such, users would be getting their USD much sooner than if they were to sell BTC on an exchange, then move the money to Dwolla, then move the money from Dwolla to a bank account... etc...

It will start very small - maybe only 10BTC for sale at a time, but I hope it will grow after that.  Fees would be in the neighborhood of 2%, plus a $1 shipping charge.

I am looking to use existing e-commerce software, but existing solutions seem to be few and far between.

So here is what I'm looking for...

A simple site that displays the amount of USD available for purchase.  This would go down as people make purchases, like a store's stock of items.

A field where the user can enter the amount of USD's they want to buy.

A purchase button.

The user clicks the purchase button, enters in their info (name, mailing address, etc...), and they are shown a BTC address to fund, with a timer that will tick down.

Once they fund the BTC address, a confirmation e-mail is sent to both the purchaser and me.

I will be using MtGox to replenish my checking account as it runs low, so using the MtGox merchant API would seem to be a fit here... but I don't know how to use such things.

So... what do you think about this?  Would someone be willing to code such a thing if there isn't an out of the box solution already out there?  If so... what would you charge?
228  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL offers 1000 BTC back up on power claims on: October 25, 2012, 12:59:09 PM
Well it's hardly a bet if the party already has the answer/outcome before placing the bet...

I disagree.  Those are the best kinds of bets.

If Inaba really knows the answers and is willing to put money into escrow to prove it, it would send a very clear signal to the market.  The signal, conceivably, could mislead the market (he's sacrificing 1000BTC to make 5000BTC in more preorders), but that just raises another potential bet.  Bets are useful.  Take a look at Intrade.
229  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB: PCI-E Extenders on: October 24, 2012, 01:47:37 PM
I've got a PCI-e extender 1x to 16x (1x size with open end for GPU mining).  Purchased it and wound up not needing it.

2BTC shipped.

And buy a plane ticket for the rig to sit in too?  Or do you really expect baggage personnel to handle it any more carefully than UPS or FedEx would?

It would be faster, for sure.  But also, like musical instruments, you could probably do that.  Just buy an extra ticket for your package, like people do for cellos, and belt it down.  And if they didn't want to allow you to do that, a word with the stewardess and baggage handlers would probably be enough.

"In this package is extremely sensitive computer equipment.  It is also very, very valuable.  Can you please, please, please be extra careful with it."

It would be enough 999 times out of 1,000.

Q: Where in the "real world" will you find MONTHLY returns like that?
A: No where.

This is why I feel investing in bitcoin is a great investment, beyond all the other benefits that bitcoin will provide.

People in the Bitcoin community are very short sighted when it comes to returns.  1% per day sounds reasonable...   Undecided  5% per month sounds low?   Huh

If we could get 5% per month, we'd all be rich very, very soon.
232  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: High Efficiency FPGA & ASIC Bitcoin Mining Devices https://BTCFPGA.com on: October 24, 2012, 12:10:36 PM
Simply put, in the USA if you buy something you've got to pay sales tax.
In Germany/United Kingdom, if you buy something you've got to pay MWSt/VAT.
What I'm trying to say is, as an end-customer you've always got to pay tax.

Incorrect.  In the USA, a sales tax isn't a federal tax; it is a state tax that may or may not be imposed on sales of particular goods or services, depending on your state.
233  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC bandwidth on: October 23, 2012, 02:45:52 PM
This is amazing, so 50MB per month is the most you would need.

Just wait until you can fit the entire blockchain on a 4 dollar flash drive (after pruning, hashing, whatever is being proposed these days).

You can imagine the conversations we're going to be having 10 years from now with newcomers.

"So what's this bitcoin deal...?"

"Here, I'll show you.  It is a digital commodity, very valuable these days.  Let me see your phone....  There... I just downloaded every Bitcoin transaction that has ever taken place to your phone.  Took up less room than your Facebook app.  You can use it to securely send these digital commodities, in any amount, to anyone on Earth (or in orbit, or on Mars) for a fee of a United States nickel.  You have more security and financial freedom in your phone right now than even the richest man or bank 20 years ago.  If I were to send you $20 in BTC, .003 BTC, it could never be seized, frozen, taxed, lost, stolen from you, or linked to you.  Want some?"

Fun to dream right?
234  Other / Off-topic / Re: ACTUAL Butterfly Labs PCB pics! on: October 22, 2012, 09:59:07 PM
If the boards are already made, and asics already placed, something like this would probably be enough:

What'd be ideal is if these were almost exactly the same height as the space between bottom of board to enclosure, so that if the thermal adhesive proves not to be reliable, at least the heatsinks will be kept in place (not a bunch of copper pieces shaking around and contacting the board).

Would it be possible to solder something like this to the board before the ASIC chips are placed?

That's what I keep thinking.  If the ships are not perfectly level, you're other going to crush them with the heatsink, or you're going to not have good contact with all of them.

Why not just use these little guys?

237  Other / Off-topic / Re: ACTUAL Butterfly Labs PCB pics! on: October 21, 2012, 02:06:24 PM
I am happy and alot more confident now that we are gonna start getting our orders in the next couple weeks and it hasn't all just been a massive scam.

Next couple weeks huh?  I hope you're right, but I fear you're way off, especially with the new announcement of shipping dates being November/December.
238  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL offers 1000 BTC back up on power claims on: October 20, 2012, 09:35:09 PM
Na, I knew Tom would chicken out and run back into his hole, so it was largely irrelevant as far as Tom goes.  I'm offering 1000 BTC on behalf of BFL regardless of what Tom does.  I never expected Tom to honor the intent of his bet anyway (Simply because he had no intention of going through with it from the start), so it was largely altruistic on my part to begin with, but only in so far as I don't think I will have to pay up and I know Tom would... but I'm more than willing to escrow the amount until such time as is required.

Would you be willing to make a bet with the community that x number of units will be shipped by some particular date and that the units will function at the specified power claims?
239  Other / Off-topic / Re: ACTUAL Butterfly Labs PCB pics! on: October 20, 2012, 03:15:25 PM
Late November or December huh?  Makes me wish I had enough BTC to hedge my bets with Tom, so no matter who delivers first, I can get in before difficulty shoots sky high.
240  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs invests heavily in high speed production equipment on: October 19, 2012, 07:05:14 PM
If the answer were no, why would we be doing it?  The answer must necessarily be yes.

From my perspective, putting the emotional issues (including history) aside, it's completely feasible that a company could produce ASIC-based mining systems without the investments Enigma mentioned.  You or I could do it in our garages.

So the answer turns out to be... Enigma is full of it.

Response Enigma?
