221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: GUI wallet, question/suggestion on: January 05, 2019, 06:30:06 PM
Do you have any suggestions for improvements then (with respect to displaying the wallet name of the currently loaded wallet)?

To facilitate bean-counting I manage 2 wallets.  As the GUI doesn't always show the name of the currently loaded  wallet, before any operation I have to navigate around in order to know which wallet is loaded.

My suggestion is to have the GUI display the wallet name in the upper-right zone, where it now displays a line containing the Monero logo then "Monero", and on the next line the "Balance" label.  Instead of "Balance" it may display "Balance in X" where X  would be the wallet name (or as much characters of the beginning of the wallet filename that can be displayed there, given the current window-size restrictions).

Thank you!

Thanks for your suggestion. I have posted it in the GUI channel. Note that you can also open a new issue on the Monero GUI Github repository with your suggestion:

I have a problem with the GUI used with Ledger Nano S.
I have XMR in two different Ledger Nano S, I have created two different wallet file (the .keys file).
My daemon is synchronized. When I open the GUI with one Ledger and its associated .keys file, everything is OK.
But when I open the GUI with the second Ledger and its associated .keys file,  there is a problem.

First, under "Network Status" it is written Synchronizing.
The lower progess bar indicates Daemon is synchronized.
The higher progress indicates Wallet blocks remaining 1740270 and it scans for all the blocks.

It lasts several hours and then, when the scanning of the whole blockchain is finished, it starts again...
This time under "Network Status" it is written Connected. But the scanning for the 1.7M blocks starts again and my balance is not showing, only "waiting for blocks". So basically this is a endless process and I cannot access my fund.

Did you set a restore height for the second Ledger Monero wallet? If not, please generate a new set of Ledger Monero wallet files for the second Ledger device with a proper restore height. You can use this guide for assistance:

https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/9901/how-do-i-generate-a-ledger-monero-wallet-with-the-gui-monero-wallet-gui
OK now I haved setted a restore height and it solves this problem. But now I have a new problem with the GUI password.

With the first Ledger Nano S, the GUI password works fine and I can log in. But with the second Ledger, I cannot open the GUI, instead I have the error message: Couldn't open wallet: invalid password

I am sure I enter the exact same password than with my first Ledger. So why the GUI password is working with one device and not the other?

Which version of the GUI are you using? You can check on the Settings page of the GUI.

According to

https://miningpoolstats.stream/monero

XMR Network hash rate = 392.28 MH/s, while sum on all the pools = 319.24 MH/s.

The Totally Unknown hash rate is 18.6%, typical value before was 5-10%. In last weeks Totally Unknown hash rate keeps growing... ASICs?!

I wouldn't draw any inferences from such little variance in hashrate.

When using the GUI wallet with the Ledger Nano, what happened if we delete the .keys files?

Please see my response here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/aahg2r/a_security_question_about_using_ledger_with_gui/ecsmblb/

Thus, in case you delete the Ledger Monero wallet files, you ought to regenerate / recreate them.

Hopefully it's sufficiently clear now.
It is, thank you dEBRUYNE for the answer. Thank you 7jaja7 as well.

And what about the GUI's 25 words mnemonic seed? If we lose those 25 words and delete the GUI from the computer, what are the consequences for the XMR whose private keys are in the Ledger Nano S?

If you use the GUI in conjunction with a Ledger device, the 24 word Ledger mnemonic seed (provided upon initializing the Ledger device) is your XMR seed. In addition, please see:

https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/10598/how-do-i-restore-recreate-my-ledger-monero-wallet
So that's mean the GUI's 25 words are not important?

Well, if you use Ledger in conjunction with the official GUI, there is no 25 word standard XMR seed. The wallet is generated with your 24 word Ledger mnemonic seed.

Hopefully it's sufficiently clear now.

Thanks i managed to get the wallet downloaded and installled. is there a way to speed up the syncing? it got to 65% really quick but its taken nearly 2 days to get to 83%.

Thanks

Not really. If possible, best to simply let it run overnight. Also, are you using an SSD or an HDD?
230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CLI wallet, questions on: December 29, 2018, 12:15:39 PM
Hi,

When I invoke  monero-wallet-cli to order a transfer is there a way to avoid pass the password to it without using a "--password" command-line argument?

Sometimes the wallet exits with an error such as "Error: Not enough money in unlocked balance" or "Error: daemon is busy. Please try again later." but the exitValue, which is the "$?" shell pseudovariable, is always 0, just as if it always succeeded.  Is it possible to have it exit with a 0 only if it succeeded, and in all other cases with an errorcode specific to any error?

Thank you.

Do you want to skip the password requirement upon sending a transaction?

No, I dont, as the protection offered thanks to the password is useful. I want to be able to invoke the CLI wallet and to provide the password without having to put it in an argument, because it is less secure as other users may have access to the active processes informations, including CLI argument.  May I put the password in a file, and instruct monero-wallet-cli to read it there?

As for the exit code I want to be able to invoke monero-wallet-cli from another program which must be informed if monero-wallet-cli encounters some error. I may use RPCs but this is not convenient from a shellscript.

[1] You mean some kind of config file for monero-wallet-cli right? If so, you can create a config file and add the --config-file path/to/config/file flag upon launching monero-wallet-cli.

[2] I am not entirely sure what operations you intend to perform here. Therefore, it may be better to ask your question on the Monero SE:

I have more than one wallet.  In the GUI wallet is there a way to always have the name of the currently loaded wallet displayed?

The wallet name of the currently loaded wallet is displayed on the Settings page on the Log tab.

So I have to go to this page each time I want to know (or to be sure) which wallet is currently loaded. It seems not optimal to me but I suppose most users only have one wallet and use accounts.

Thank you!

Correct. Do you have any suggestions for improvements then (with respect to displaying the wallet name of the currently loaded wallet)?

You're welcome.

c'mon people, donate like 1$. It only costs 0.2 cents ( thats 0.002 $ for those that have trouble with this ... like verizon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MShv_74FNWU ).

seriously, monero would be like a potato in a bucket without mooooooo. Lets make this the most number of donations for a FFS ever. Send 1$ worth. Hell, send 10 cents worth.

monero has microtransactions yay. Who wants coffee? Private coffee chain thank god I was worried.

I want to donate, is it possible to do it in BTC? I might make a donation right now...

No, but you could try using a site like ShapeShift.

Donations in XMR are more difficult to do, since there is no user-friendly wallet using remote servers, like Electrum. Or I am wrong and could you give me a download link to Electrum-like app for XMR?

You can use mymonero.com which is an online web wallet that you can access from anywhere, or you can use either of the desktop wallets (CLI/GLI) with a remote node.

There's also the MyMonero desktop apps:

I've check a few exchanges... monero wallets are all in maintenace...

Why is that? Is that still because of the last fork? When can we expect to have exchanges wallets functional again? Is there an exchange witch already has wallet in ok status?

Thanks

To which particular exchanges does this apply?

How do I export my history from the 0.13.0.4 Beryllium Bullet gui wallet to a file? Excel, CSV, ect? Even the ability to copy and paste the amount received would be fine. I just don't want to have to manually type every single transaction into my coin tracking software.

There's currently no such functionality available unfortunately. I suppose you could load your wallet into the CLI though and subsequently follow the suggestions here:

i'm download this file. but i am getting xxxxx error. I could not fix this error.
""libhidapi-0.dll missing""
https://dlsrc.getmonero.org/gui/monero-gui-win-x86-v0.13.0.4.zip

That particular DLL is normally included in the .zip file. Can you check if your AV has perhaps quarantined some required files (i.e. files necessary in order for the GUI to run properly)?

Are you syncing to an SSD? A resync from scratch may be worthwhile to ensure best performance going forward. Also, are you using the CLI or the GUI?

Yes, I am. I used the link above and redid the chain and now it's fine.

I was using the GUI, but I had a bug in the wallet that I could not understand and so I went back to the CLI. I would try and explain it but I probably couldn't.

In any event, I'm back up and running, thanks for all the help everyone!! Mooonero ftw!! Cheesy

Perhaps you should give GUI v0.13.0.4 a try? Lots of bugs were fixed in this version.

I have been and am still on that version, so yeah... There are still bugs to be found... This one was just too hard to explain let alone recreate.... Roll Eyes

Software will never be bug free :-P Do you remember any of the error messages that were displayed?
