I'm curious what 3D printer you are using for the models?  Also very curious about the process, are you using graphite molds, do you do all the modelling and machining of the molds?  Graphite is nasty shit to cut.

I'm using a Flashforge Creator Pro. Its a pretty decent printer, but I still need to set print speeds pretty slow and finish each thing it prints by hand if I want decent detail. I will retool eventually with resin printers and such, but it hasn't been worth doing so yet. I don't use graphite, I do have the setup to mill graphite to make molds, but I'm not a huge fan of it. Mess aside, it loses detail pretty quickly, after one or two pours enough graphite has been burnt out that minor details will be gone.

I use a jewelry investment powder, which is just fancy high temperature plaster that doesn't contract as it dries. After I've got a 3d print how I want it, I set it in the plaster, use a vacuum chamber to remove any air bubbles (when you don't vacuum you get the little pits you see on the silver rabbit model) and then leave it to dry for a few hours. After that, it goes through a very specific burnout cycle in a kiln that goes from ~350 degrees to 1450 degrees over the course of 12 hours. The plastic vaporizes, and I'm left with a cavity that is a perfect replica of the 3D print. After the metal is poured in, the plaster flask is broken into or dissolved in water, and I'm left with a metal figure.

Thnx for the info, I was curious about the method because I thought the casting had a split line on the chest, yet it had the print lines from the original model (which obviously wouldn't be there if you used graphite molds).  Obviously the line on the chest isn't a split line!  I used to work for the largest HPDC (high pressure die cast) manufacture in Canada (in fact if you've ever been in a V6 Chrysler product there's a 90% chance the tool that cast the engine block came from us).  We had about 15 mills that exclusively cut graphite which we used on our EDM (Electric discharge machines) to "burn" complex inserts.  We had to re-cut each graphite about .050" between burns as the process is hard on the graphite.

I modeled a few bitcoin themed rings and had them "3D printed" (its actually a loss wax process but the wax model is 3D printed so they call it a 3D printed ring lol), which is the same thing you do but with plastic models.  I had one done in .925 and I was actually very impressed with the detail they were able to provide.

There is just something really cool about melting metal and casting it into something else, critters aren't really my thing but I will keep an eye out for anything you do in the future, I really love the death star you did!

but he's also the ONLY PERSON.

If he's the only person than there is really no harm in letting him bounce around his own little virtual rubber room.  Better he shits in a few of his own threads than spraying verbal bullshit all over the forum!

...like an area where bullshit conspiracies thrive.

Not sure if you and I are in the same sub or not but it literally is an area where bullshit conspiracies thrive. It's pretty much the unwritten name of the board IMO.  I'd be interested in any thread in the board that is over a few pages long that doesn't have some reference to some wacky horse shit that is made up!  The aggressive posters are so vocal that I'm sure they drive away less confrontation oriented users, I know I post a little less these days with the current group of aggressive users who lack the ability to listen to the other side!

We're not that at all, we're a board with great discussions and a wonderful group of members.

There is definitely a broad range of users on the board and some of them are wonderful but lets be honest there are some pretty special folks around and they seem to gravitate to our board!
224  Other / Meta / Re: Why do we have so many spam threads in P&S? on: February 27, 2019, 09:18:55 PM
I'd be willing to move it if regulars on here agree with it, and Hellfish doesn't respond for a 24 hour period or so here.

Feel free to move it to meta anytime, I may end up moving it myself as it isn't appropriate in P&S.  My interpretation of the no multi-posting rule is that multi-posting within a 24 hr period is not allowed. Multiple posts that could be edited in to a single post or are entirely useless all together which are designed only to "bump" a thread are what that rules targets.  It does not target a thread in which any user would like to update periodically a thread and they should not be restricted to adding legitimate information to a thread just because they were the last person to post in a thread.

With regards to that specific troll, just ignore him, that's what I do he isn't really harming anyone and he is obviously mentally ill.  There is literally no value in engaging him or discussing him or reading his posts or anything what so ever related to him.  I've already wasted time I didn't want to on him but because your a decent bloke I responded to you.

I would love it if we banned the mentally ill but theymos wants them to have their say as well so chances are him and his threads aren't going anywhere.

Very cool, very unique piece man GL with the sales thread!
226  Other / Meta / Re: Propaganda and political operatives in PS sub on: February 27, 2019, 12:49:56 PM
I have seen some people post in what I believe to be bad faith, and what I believe to be outright lies that have no basis in fact. Perhaps they actually believe what they are posting, but I believe they are pushing disinformation.

I have seen the exact same thing tbh, the reality is you and I will disagree vehemently on many of those issues and I assure you I will end up moderating something you don't consider bad faith or dis-information.  It's a slippery slope and it's clear to me that theymos doesn't want the forum to go down that road.

The anti-vax movement is able to spread solely because of propaganda and lies. If those who believe these lies knew not to take what is said to them at face value then perhaps they would get their kids vaccinated.

The anti-vax movement is able to spread because people are too stupid to use their own fucking brains for a fraction of a second.  All the warnings in the world aren't going to fix stupid.

There are warnings about scammers all over the marketplace subs. I don't see why there shouldn't be warnings about other people being up to no good other places they might try to create mischief.

Healthy skepticism should be a part of any information consumers mindset, I think you are drastically over estimating the impact P&S has on the outside world there are just a handful of users there on a regular basis.  There are more nut jobs than sane folk in P&S and honestly no one is changing anyone's view or the world with posts in P&S.
227  Other / Meta / Re: Propaganda and political operatives in PS sub on: February 26, 2019, 09:08:36 PM
Well until someone calls me a Nazi I just don't know how to respond in a thread discussing moderating...

Lying and or pushing an alternative agenda is not against the forum rules afaik, if a specific user/post is breaking forum rules please report them and they will be dealt with.  You are free to start your own echo chamber thread (self mod'd) and you can circle jerk about Gauido or Maduro or the big bad deep state all you want!

If there are operatives here they are wasting there time and money, P&S is just a handful of crazies.

You definitely don't want me to moderate truth or there would be no anti vax or anti climate change threads/posts allowed.
228  Economy / Reputation / Re: HoweyCoins new ANN thread ? on: February 25, 2019, 05:06:47 PM
You do realize Howeycoins is... how should I put it... a test? Grin

Report the thread as duplicate. Or just let it die.

I fail that test every time...  Never was good at tests  Grin

Actually thanks for the post I took a few minutes to look into the origins further and it turns out I was wrong about the origin.  The whole anti-vax has literally been around as long as vaccines.  Thanks for straightening me out!

I still believe it's currently being weaponized mostly by fringe right wing groups to manipulate their target demographic.

The Anti-vax campaign was started as a Soviet Union era propaganda campaign to weaken future generations of the west through reducing herd immunity.  The right wing fringe has latched on to it in the last few years because their entire reason to exist is to incite fear in their supporters so they will maintain control.  Fear is the easiest way to get people to believe any old horse shit, just look at religion, scared of eternal hell, do what I say and it won't happen...  Now tell people that something might make their kids retarded and boom you have a recipe for really stupid people to get behind you in a big way.

Ironically it may be backfiring on the Russians as they appear to have their own vaccine problems lol.

The internet is like the crack of propaganda, in the old days you had to print shit on paper and distribute it somehow, or get on the limited TV ads or shows to make it fly, now days any old dip shit can reach millions of people for free...

Edit: strike through inaccurate information.

233  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2020 Democrats on: February 21, 2019, 10:43:27 PM
I want Bernie or Warren to win, mostly because it will be so awesome to watch Republican talking heads exploding for 4 straight years!

I wonder if Biden is going to run, does he want to go out out on top or risk losing to primary voters who may have shifted to his left too far?  I wonder if Biden is more worried about the primary than the general?

Are you enjoying watching the Democratic talking heads exploding? I think that the Democratic Party may come to an end if the Sanders wing wins. Neither the corporate Dems nor the Labor Dems can stand their identitarian, intersectional view of the world. The corporate Dems know that their money will dry up and the labor Dems know that they will be sacrificed at a heart beat for the next cause de jour.

The dem talking heads lack a certain animation IMO, while a few provide some quality entertainment the GOP talking heads are, generally speaking much more entertaining.  The entertainment value during the Obama years was some of the best shit ever!  I keep thinking if Obama did 1/10th of the shit Trump does it would have been like a nuclear holocaust down there!

Bernie isn't going to end the democratic party lol, he is the reason the party is talking about progressive policies, the old fart understands that things like health care, fair taxes and sustainable energy shouldn't be that hard for civilizations smartest, richest, bestest country...  The GOP will survive Trump and the Dem's would survive Bernie.  The question is would the GOP survive President Sanders?!

@Flying Hellfish
and claim to protect bitcointalk members.....

@ Stupid Twat

It is not my job to protect anyone, it's not my job to hold your hand or be nice to anyone, it's your job to protect yourself, don't like it too fucking bad, call the cops, go away or keep crying like you have sand in your pussy, it all leads to the same place for you, no where!

BTW I am in Canada and online gambling is NOT illegal in my country, but hey as I mentioned feel free to call the cops, I will even give you the phone number for the RCMP if you can't find it!
238  Economy / Reputation / Re: Lauda breaking forum rules ? on: February 18, 2019, 01:25:51 PM

Lauda is under EU regulations so it is ilegal for him.
In the US its also being hunted.
Did you miss the crack down ?

So call the fucking cops, they will enjoy laughing at you as much as we have.

Ok, well then you can pretty much count on this becoming dogecointalk as the people who built this whole market bail

Ironically people have been saying similar for a long time, still waiting for the sky to fall...  Good and bad people come and go for lots of different reasons, you of course seem to know the answer to everything so why not just go make the perfect forum and stop whining like a fucking bitch for a while.
