Thanks theymos and everyone else that thought I might make a good choice!
Awesome, glad you won out, FlyingHellfish.  You have a monumental task ahead of you, and I hope you whip that utterly degenerated section of bitcointalk into shape with the business end of a Castlevania-type flame whip or something.  Can't say I'm ever going to visit P&S to see how it's going, so best of luck to you.

For what it's worth, I think you were pretty much the only rational choice.

Haha, thanks man!  As one of my personal heroes and immortal legend Homer Simpson once put it "default the two sweetest words in the English language"!!!!

Flying Hellfish is the new Politics & Society mod. Thanks for your comments, everyone!

Now let's get to work on solving all of the political issues of the world through what I'm sure will be 100% sane, reasonable discussion going forward.

Thanks theymos and everyone else that thought I might make a good choice!

Looks like I have some reading to do and then get on to business!

Let the debates rage on!

I'd really like to downplay signatures. Signaturesare important for a variety of reasons, and I think it is a shame that members prostitute themselves by promoting sites that the wouldn't dream of using. I might have one more drive for trainee recruitment, and then take fit to talk out of my signatures. I take your point about pretty signatures, but lipstick on a hairy male tends to generate the wrong traffic. Smiley

Thread titles and post content are far more important in my opinion. They are the things that generate healthy discussion and produce good advice.

I agree completely.

I think my analogy was terrible looking back on it.  I did not intend for it to come across as though your site was a pig needing lipstick and I do apologize if anyone read it that way.

What I meant was that your sig is plain, painfully plain that's all.  Also IMO your sig doesn't really convey the message that you want the guys who are not getting merit because of bad English.  Perhaps it's not a reluctance to join but people don't understand what you want/offer?

Good and bad traffic is all in the same place and by alienating bad traffic you also risk alienating good traffic IMO.

Anyways I hope I didn't offend it wasn't my intentions I like the project!  Smiley  I don't want to derail your thread with OT sig stuff.

If you consider this post OT and not appropriate for this thread LMK I'll gladly delete it!

Technology is also an application of science used to solve problems. But it is vital to know that technology and science are different subjects which work hand-in-hand to accomplish specific tasks or solve problems. We apply technology in almost everything we do in our daily lives; we use technology at work, we use technology for communication, transportation, learning, manufacturing, securing data, scaling businesses and so much more.  Technology is human knowledge which involves tools, materials, and systems. The application of technology typically results in products. If technology is well applied, it benefits humans, but the opposite is true, if used for malicious reasons.

Damn I thought "flying hellfish" was actually some kind of fish and he was trying to insult me by calling me a flying hellfish.
Nice to meet you Mr L.D.A.L.A.F  Grin Grin

PS: If I were a flying hellfish, I'd be body slamming your face right now.

I mean I could waste a lot of time responding to Digaran and I did respond to him at the beginning a couple of times.  In reality anything I could write about him would only ever be half as good as just letting him runaway with his imagination and his own post button!!!  Wink

I actually find a bunch of his insults funny, my favourite so far has to be being called a "limp dick acting like a fish".  I mean i laughed, its the interwebz I'm not offended by any of it!  I do have to remind myself of that from time to time and this thread was just such an occasion.

Keep em coming Diga I love to read your posts in this thread!

>..<

Thanks for signing up, and I've authorised your application. I've recently introduced email activation, so please let me know if there is a problem with this.

I seem to have quite a few people who are keen to help, and I am grateful for this. What I really need are the guys who are failing to receive merits because of bad English, and they seem reluctant to join.I don't know if they will be put off by too many tutors. I'm lucky in that a couple of Legendaries are helping, and I hope that this won't put off potential pupils. They won't be attacked because of their English, the whole point of the project is to help them improve. I'm not sure how I can convince them of this.

The other disadvantage is that they won't get any Bitcoin Talk merits for any posts there, and they wont be able to display signatures. I suspect this puts off quite a few applicants.

If I may suggest, use a little lipstick on that pig of a signature and gussy her up!  Wink  You could use the words merit and bad English to convey what you really need or some other words you might prefer.  Someone with less than fluent English may not equate your signature/site with getting merit (honestly) here by improving their English!

"Not getting merit, English bad?  Learn how to improve your English and increase your chances of getting merit on Bitcointalk" - Be Fittotalk yada yada yada

Also what if you had a signature design thread where people could discuss and design different signatures for fit to talk.  Having input from users on how they found you and what were the keys to getting them to come might help figure out what might work in a signature.

I'm not suggesting sig campaign or anything but you have a sig and you should at least sexy it up a bit!  I know its a bit of a long shot but you might find other users eventually that would wear such a signature (hint hint wink wink  Wink )

Anyways good luck mate, I quite like the project and I hope it works out!

social networking service (also social networking site, SNS or social media) is an online platform that people use to build social networks or social relations with other people who share similar personal or career interests, activities, backgrounds or real-life connections. The variety of stand-alone and built-in social networking services currently available online introduces challenges of definition; however, some common features exist:

social networking services are Internet-based applications
user-generated content (UGC) is the lifeblood of SNS organisations. Online community services are sometimes considered[by whom?] social-network services, though in a broader sense, a social-network service usually provides an individual-centered service whereas online community services are group-centered. Social networking sites allow users to share ideas, digital photos and videos, posts, and to inform others about online or real-world activities and events with people in their network. While in-person social networking – such as gathering in a village market to talk about events – has existed since the earliest development of towns,[citation needed] the Web enables people to connect with others who live in different locations, ranging from across a city to across the world. Depending on the social media platform, members may be able to contact any other member. In other cases, members can contact anyone they have a connection to, and subsequently anyone that contact has a connection to, and so on. LinkedIn, a career-oriented social-networking service, generally requires that a member personally know another member in real life before they contact them online. Some services require members to have a preexisting connection to contact other members.
The main types of social networking services contain category places[clarification needed] (such as former school-year or classmates), means to connect with friends (usually with self-description pages), and a recommendation system linked to trust. One can categorize social-network services into three types:

socializing social network services used primarily for socializing with existing friends (e.g., Facebook)
networking social network services used primarily for non-social interpersonal communication (e.g., LinkedIn, a career- and employment-oriented site)
social navigation social network services used primarily for helping users to find specific information or resources (e.g., Goodreads for books)
There have been attempts to standardize these services to avoid the need to duplicate entries of friends and interests (see the FOAF standard). A study reveals that India recorded world's largest growth in terms of social media users in 2013.[6] A 2013 survey found that 73% of U.S. adults use social-networking sites.

I don't agred with you that regulations are good for cryptocurrency ICO and obviously, crypto are not meant for any kind of regulation -call it good or bad regulations, the bottom line is that bitcoin and altcoins regulations will affect Cryptocurrency usage  because this is a peer to peer decentralized  blockchain that does not require regulations by any persons or group of persons.

Now these are some examples on attempts by governments to regulate Cryptocurrency.
In December 2013, the Chinese government banned financial institutions from using bitcoin, causing a downturn in the cryptocurrency's value that would set a precedent for its worth over the coming years. Less than a year later, in April 2014, several Chinese bitcoin exchanges had their bank accounts closed. That spurred concern that government oversight limiting access to fiat currency (traditional, 'real world' currency) could be lead a wave of future regulations to curtail bitcoin's growth. Yet loopholes in the crackdown meant many exchanges stayed in business, and bitcoin’s price rose some 25 percent in the 10 days that followed.
Again ,
the U.S. has made localized attempts to regulate specific aspects of bitcoin. New York State requires a "BitLicense" for bitcoin related businesses, with specific rules for employee vetting and identification. Just last month, the IRS won a landmark ruling to gain access to information about 14,000 historic Coinbase accounts, in an attempt to gather back taxes from owners.
While some of those instances are more concerning than others, none of it has stopped bitcoin’s growth. That reveals the flaws of any future attempts to crack down on bitcoin’s use.

Have you seen lava rock? It's not a mach with every other kind of stone out there.

Mud fossils however can and do explain the various kinds of rocks and their features the Earth is made from. The evidence for fossilized animals including giant humans is everywhere, it's just that nobody can see the forest for the trees; the globe Earth mind just can't comprehend a two mile tall elephant.

The globe explanation for the creation of the Earth doesn't hold any water, just like the surface of every ball.

No.  You're ignoring all the easy things that prove the earth isn't flat.  At the same time you're clinging to all these other ridiculous things and just gesturing at them going "SEE?"  Just get together with some other flat earthers and measure where the sun is and the latitude you're at all at the same.  Measure it according to your flat earth map if you want, the results will still be pretty damning.  At the same time, try to calculate the distance between places as well, the flat earth map fucks all of it up.  For gods sake just do your own research.

Ask them how it's possible for a commercial flight to fly direct Santiago Chile to Sydney Australia on the flat earth map.  Take a look at the distance on the flat earth map and realize we could never make that flight direct on that map.  The way we are able to do it in the REAL WORLD is by flying over the southern hemisphere.  BTW that flight happens several times a week!

That is literally 1 extreme example of just how stupid their map is.  If the earth was flat and not a globe ALL flight paths would be wrong.

Angry pinoy. note about the level-headed. could you find the original post to read what it says after "I do believe in Jesus, I do"? that part edited out by level headed is the core of the lonely virgin's whole belief system. but it was censored, why?

Dude
1)  You know full well I don't have ANY way of censoring your posts on the forum.
2)  Snipping a quote is common place, not censoring and something I've seen you do many times.  BTW snipping quotes is actually considered common courtesy so we don't end up with long eyesore posts that require 5 mins to scroll through.  This actually affects some users ability to read posts.

I personally have been talking to badecker on the '' evolution is a hoax '' thread for easily 40-50 pages and some of it might be redundant but I think is an acceptable conversation: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1917510.1940

That being said, in between our conversation there are plenty of similar low quality answers, I think you have been following that thread too so you know what I'm talking about. I probably should be reporting more posts there, that's true.

I do agree that there are plenty of threads, easily 80% that are just stupid and would fit better in off topic.

Ya I am definitely familiar with BADecker and that thread!  Cheesy  My view on it is yes the in between posts need to be fixed those one liners replying only to the title of the thread, they gotta go.  But you and BD are putting effort into your posts and having a debate (if talking to a wall can be called a debate LOL).  Yes a lot of has been repeated but I don't believe for a second either of you are doing it for post count.

I don't have a problem with you guys.  BADecker and I are about as polar opposite as I can imagine but I haven't once seen him break a forum rule that I know of, so as far a I'm concerned he can say whatever he wants!   I also think he is one of the funniest users on the forum  Wink

Notbatman (as you know) is another controversial user. As vile and disgusting as he is I haven't seen him break any forum rules either.  I feel sorry for the dude, I think he has a mental illness (seriously) but he is allowed his opinion either way.

Anyways as far as I go I say keep these kinds of users talking, the entertainment value is through the roof!  They are literally the reason I go to those two boards!!!!!

Quote
Did you guys pick a mod yet? I haven't read all the answers in this thread yet.
No word yet that I saw.

Completely agree and just wanted to add that the reason why I'm asking is because it almost seems like 90% of the threads there are like this. Ofc this is the reason Theymos started this thread in the first place.

Examples:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3315389.0 (President Trump Is More Smart Than Before - So What He Will Do Next ? )  --> Granted, this is actually on topic, but again very low effort. Though deleting this might be seen as censorship?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2976682.0 (Our Children Nowadays)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2829336.0 (Quit Facebook)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3310363.0 (WHAT IS THE RATIONALE BEHIND AFRICAN LEADERS WANTING TO RULE FOREVER)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2374499.0 (why are people suffering from jealousy ?)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2554765.0 (TIME MACHINE!)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2877389.0 (What to do when life purpose is lost?)

Might have been better to find out which topics are actually good, that list would have been shorter... Most of these topics are obviously from people who have a poor understanding of English, but where do you draw the line?

If it's poor english + generally low effort, it should be removed.

Low effort also means just copy pasting an article, even if they add the source. If there's no personal commentary in that case, should be removed.

How many of them are duplicate or redundant topics on top of being questionable?

There is a 550+ page flat earth thread in OT (and I would guess 80% of it is redundant in itself LOL).  There is a ~7 page flat earth thread in P&S.  I even posted in the P&S thread advising to use the OT thread (as it's much bigger and funnier!) but still page after page of shit posts rack up in the P&S thread.  So it seems the logical thing to do is lock the P&S thread and encourage (with a link) anyone interested in talking about the topic to go to the Off Topic thread for further discussion.

Obviously this is one I know about and I am sure there are tons more so the mod in that section will need community support to be effective.
