2221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Heads-Up: Bank Fraud Alert on: April 14, 2012, 01:11:27 AM
So as a heads up....

If you individually deal with someone, most probably a new member of this board, and sell them BTC for Dwolla you could get screwed as well.  While we already knew this, the message again is Dwolla is not cash and can be charged back.

It is unlikely (but possible) that a fraudster buying a physical item with Dwolla would do this because the physical address would be the address of the bank account holder, not the fraudster so the fraudster would get nothing.

What does this have to do with bitcoin?

The (non) possibility of cracking SHA2 due to increases in computing power and also increase in total network hash rate.
2224  Other / Politics & Society / Re: George Zimmerman arrested for 2nd degree murder for killing Trayvon Martin on: April 13, 2012, 09:20:06 PM

Too bad Dutchie- indeed I am White, but not quite the shit-filled punk-ass bitch you want to think I am. I speak out against racism of any kind, and in this case your boy Trayvon was wrong. He opened up a can of worms that he wasn't fully prepared to deal with, and got himself killed with his pseudo-macho gang-banger wanna-be antics. Zimmerman acted out the responsibility that he had taken on as a neighborhood watch member, and when assaulted, protected himself. Having the instant mob vigilantism of racist hate-mongers like Sharpton and Jackson appear to inflame the easily led, and the comments of Obama and the Hollywood Left has done nothing but pour gasoline on a very bad situation.

I do not think this case is about race.  It is about manslaughter.

How you think Trayvon opened up a can of worms I do not understand.  Trayvon was stalked, harassed and when he (possibly) tried to stand his ground (as was HIS legal right in Florida) he was shot.  He also may have just been plain murdered but we just don't know.

With all of the talk on this board about non-aggression and staying out of the business of others Zimmerman runs against everything most libertarians believe in.  He denied Trayvon the right to walk down the street.

Good luck!  I had a 2004 Convertible V6 manual (still the same body style) and loved it.  I sold it over the winter and should have thought about selling it for bitcoin!

While it was a blast to drive, it also got near 30mpg on the highway (in excess of the EPA rating).

Seems nice, but I don't like the 6 day coin return thing.  I would prefer it to be longer or self settable.
2227  Other / Politics & Society / Re: George Zimmerman arrested for 2nd degree murder for killing Trayvon Martin on: April 13, 2012, 03:06:06 PM
Martin was on public property. He was a neighborhood resident. He wasn't hurting nobody (not even Zimmerman) by walking home. If Zimmerman didn't like it, he could simply leave.

No altercation is justified.

FTFY
2228  Other / Politics & Society / Re: George Zimmerman arrested for 2nd degree murder for killing Trayvon Martin on: April 13, 2012, 12:12:57 PM
Doesn't the "stand your ground" law mean the exact opposite of that?  If Zimmerman felt threatened, wasn't he entitled to kill?

Stand your ground actually would have protected Trayvon in this case had he killed Zimmerman.  It does not in any way protect the aggressor.  The law is reasonably clear, unlike the prosecutor in Florida.

While one can argue how it sounds to the public but the charge should have been manslaughter.  I felt Trayvon was murdered, but the EVIDENCE does not support that.  The evidence supports manslaughter.  The prosecution has a pretty big shot of screwing it up and having Zimmerman being found not guilty with the murder charge.  A manslaughter charge and conviction would have served to dissuade others from repeating the same acts.
2229  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Undervolting a 5870 at 0.95v on: April 13, 2012, 01:38:43 AM
Yeah that sounds like a pretty good cruising speed.  I wonder if these can be volted down any further?  On 5970s you can go down to .90v (610/200) for 550 MH/s, and possibly even lower on the voltage (in the .86-.88v range).  Has anybody had any luck with sub-.95v on 5870s?

I run my 5870s at 650/150/.899v currently for around 295Mh/s.

I tried the 750/150/.95v on a 5x5870 rig and things crashed before they even got started.

About 1/2 my cards can take 700/150/.95v

I use this as my 'summer' setting for some of my miners.
2230  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is rig building still profitable? on: April 12, 2012, 02:23:01 AM
Still leaving the overall price way nicer than 1.65Mhash/$

And whats my cost for a translator and shipping put it at  Huh

When I have used one, the shipping was the killer.  It was nearly 50% of the product price.  Ordering things like ram, cpu's, HDs do not make sense for US buyers from taoboa.  Cables, 'brand name' clothing,  component level items like raw chips and other things on the other hand can be a bargain even with high shipping.
2231  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Legitimate use of Bitcoin on: April 11, 2012, 04:16:49 AM
I have bought and sold a bunch of products from iPhones, candy, computer gear, store credit cards.   I regularly sell products on my website for bitcoin with an automated checkout system.

2232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Encourage George Zimmerman (Florida self-defense shooting victim) to accept BTC on: April 11, 2012, 04:14:04 AM
Below is from Wikipedia.  The reason why I post it and not other stuff on the page is that most everything in this post is well documented by audio.  So it is really not up to conjecture that Zimmerman followed Travan who was walking legally in his own neighborhood.  What would you do if some stranger followed you?

From Wikipedia:

Zimmerman cell phone call to police

Zimmerman called the Sanford Police Department police at the non-emergency number at approximately 7:00 p.m., February 26, 2012[11] to report what he considered to be suspicious behavior by Martin, which he described as "just walking around looking about" in the rain.[74] The police dispatcher tape recorded him saying, "This guy looks like he is up to no good or he is on drugs or something." He further stated that the person he was observing had his hand in his waistband, was holding something in his other hand, and was walking around slowly in the rain looking at houses.[75] On the recording of the call, Zimmerman is heard commenting "these assholes they always get away."[76][77]

After the audio of the call was released, CNN[78] and other reports alleged Zimmerman had exclaimed "fucking coon," two minutes and twenty-one seconds (2:21) into the call. CNN later claimed, on April 4, 2012, that the enhanced audio revealed the word "cold".[79] The following day, April 5, 2012, CNN's Martin Savidge reported that forensic audio expert Tom Owen claimed it was "punks".[80] Other reviewers of the call have offered alternate interpretations of what was said, but the transcript of the call states that the word in question is "unintelligible".[81][82]

The dispatcher recommended that he not take any action, and informed him that police were on the way. Zimmerman reported that Martin had started running. The dispatcher asked him if he was following Martin and he affirmed that he was. The dispatcher informed him that this was not necessary, saying, "We don't need you to do that."[83] Zimmerman affirmed "OK" and said he would meet the police by the mailboxes. However, before hanging up he said “Actually, could you have him call me, and I’ll tell him where I’m at?”[84]

At 2:07 minutes into the police call Zimmerman says "he's running". At 2:37 into the call Zimmerman tells the dispatcher, "he ran". After he can't tell the dispatcher the address of his current location, the dispatcher asks Zimmerman for his apartment number. Zimmerman tells him the numbers of his street address and then at 3:35 adds "Oh crap, I don't want to give it all out. I don't know where this kid is". Zimmerman appears to hang up at the 4:05 mark, almost two minutes after the comment that Martin was running. The recording ends at 4:11.
2233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Encourage George Zimmerman (Florida self-defense shooting victim) to accept BTC on: April 10, 2012, 08:19:45 PM
This is excessive force at least. I can go and shoot any person and then claim self-defense. Dead don't talk.

Zimmerman needs to burn.

+1.

We will never know all of the real story.  We do know that Travon was followed by a stranger with a gun going against the advice of the police.  Stand your ground does not apply.  It may be murder but without a question it is manslaughter.

If Zimmerman was at his house this would be all different, but he was not even walking around.  He got out of his car to pursue someone who he admitted 'looked out of place'.

I do not like to see this portrayed as a race issue.  It is not.  Zimmerman is probably not a racist, that does not make him innocent.

2235  Economy / Goods / Re: Over 1000 have been listed on MokiMarket!! on: April 07, 2012, 06:58:07 PM
Oh cool, Another scamish QUIBID style "BIDS ONLY GO UP BY 1c!!!"
Heres why: It costs you 10c to bid, And you can ONLY bid by .01btc increments.
Aka, Bid more than once, And you've given away some money.

There is a Massive scam "game" that this sytle of auction is based upon.
a while ago someone put this on the bitcoinforums..
: ONE BITCOIN AUCTION, Current bid? None.
You can only bid by .01 at a time, And it'll cost you .01 to bid.

The guy Payed the winner his full coin, And earned a PROFIT of .80btc

It is a game.  Unlike quibid where only the company itself can post items, on Moki anyone can post items.  Therefore lots of people can make profit, not just the host site.   I have put up a bunch of stuff and bought a bunch of stuff.  So far everyone delivered and I had a bit of fun.

2236  Economy / Goods / Re: [SELL] High value domain name - get it for 0.5 BTC & some luck (rules inside)! on: April 07, 2012, 05:07:53 PM
This simple type of 'penny auction' requires complete trust in the seller.  The seller can simply send another .5 btc HIMSELF to the address and keep the auction going.  There is no way to know who the last person was who sent it, so the seller can keep going as long as he wants and keep both the BTC and the domain.

A better choice would be putting the domain on an independent site such as bitmit.net or mokimarket.com
2237  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Wonder who this solominer is? 88.6.216.9 on: April 06, 2012, 11:53:48 PM
Perhpas the botnet was the 600,000 infected Macs Smiley
Could have been.  Macs, while harder to p0wn are a good target because many (iMacs and MacBook pro) have ati gpus.  I estimate 30,000 Gpu infected machines could have been the 1 trans miner.
2238  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Wonder who this solominer is? 88.6.216.9 on: April 06, 2012, 08:02:00 PM
It's not impossible the solominer is someone with Asics already.
Nothing is impossible, but that is most probably not it.  The botnet may have been damaged, the BIP might be causing the problem but if you had ASIC's.  why would you turn off that profit.  The fact that it turned off tells you a lot.  Common sense still says botnet.

Might as well be Vlad https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=75298.msg838691;topicseen#msg838691 and his plan for a massive Asic mining farm. Even if it isn't him, it could be someone else with Asics already putting everyone who is mining out of business.

As I understand it Vlad's plans are outright to get >51% of the network rate and maximize profits (see other thread).
The 1 tran minder is not Vlad.  While I do not agree with Vlad on all issues, I know that he genuinely cares for bitcoin and is smart.  He would not do 1 tran blocks for obvious reasons.....

They stick out, and let the world know what you are doing.
It hurts bitcoin.
He is smart enough to make his hardware do blocks properly.
2239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] A public company will build a huge Bitcoin Mining Operation (ASIC). on: April 06, 2012, 05:21:31 PM
If you succeed, you will make a lot of people lose a lot of money.

I know. They, however, will not be able to claim that they have not received a fair and advance warning.

Vlad's project in my discussion will be called P51 (project 51%)

If bitcoin hovers around $5 (before project P51 is powered up) there are four outcomes:

1) P51 achieves 51%, destroys confidence in bitcoin and the price of bitcoin drops to the point where P51 investors lose money, bitcoin is dead

2) P51 takes money and fails to complete for any number of reasons, P51 investors lose money

3) P51 dances at 40% share, keeps confidence in bitcoin but investors lose money because 40% of mining revenue is not enough to make investors profit, P51 investors lose money but not all of it, bitcoin survives

4) P51 gets going and achieves growing share, community striving to keep bitcoin decentralized switches protocol so P51 ASIC is dead in the water, P51 investors lose money

If BTC rises to the point where 40% is enough to make P51 investors a profit or if P51 costs are low enough,IT IS A SUCCESS so long as P51 does not actually turn into 51%.  Investors could have purchased BTC now instead and reaped similar profits with less risk.
