2221  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul - February 20 on: December 16, 2020, 04:27:13 PM
Mayweather still found that his boxing career can give him a profit which will only happen if ever he would going to win this incoming fight. But i guess knowing that Logan Paul was an amateur fighter will make the fight less interesting. I am not underestimating the capability of Logan Paul but knowing how Mayweather played he supposed to be in pair with a fighter that has already established his name in the world of boxing.

Although Mayweather is no longer involved in professional boxing, his fan base has remained more or less intact. There is a reason why he is regarded as the richest boxer of all time. And these people desperately want to watch him back in action. The fight against Logan Paul gives them an opportunity for that, although we can't expect the match to be much competitive.
2222  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 16, 2020, 04:17:29 PM
Advantage for Jaffna Stallions as of now. Galle Gladiators have lost five wickets and they still need another 113 runs from 10.1 overs. Shoaib Malik is bowling really well, and he is getting good support from Usman Shinwari and Suranga Lakmal. BTW, it would have been better for the JS to include Vijayakanth Viyaskanth in the playing XI, as it would have sent a strong message to ethnic unity.

2223  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: December 15, 2020, 07:22:44 PM
I think the same way, a vaccine will never be 100% effective against a virus that can even mutate very quickly.  The vaccines currently available can only help prevent the spread of the virus by a percentage.  The point goes back to that human, whether he is conscious to protect himself from the virus or he just ignores it.  The choice is ours, we can choose to protect ourselves by adhering to health protocols or not to care and be very stupid by assuming the virus does not exist.

Although they are not 100% effective, these vaccines can eradicate the pandemic in a few months time. Consider a scenario where everyone is vaccinated. Before vaccination, the infection rates were stable, with each infected person passing on the virus to on average one individual. After the vaccination, this decreases from 1 individual to an average of 0.05. That means that within a month there will be 95% reduction in the incidence of new cases. In the second month, it will get to 99.75%. And by the third month, it will be 99.99%. So the pandemic can be eradicated within a maximum period of 3-4 months.
2224  Economy / Economics / Re: Fake COVID-19 vaccines....by Paying in Bitcoins on: December 15, 2020, 07:10:10 PM
I have seen individual users purchasing prescription drugs and generic medicines from the dark market. But this is like a new extreme. I am not sure about this.. but chances are that you will be injecting something toxic and harmful into your body, which will offer you no resistance against the COVID 19 infection. BTW, how these guys are going to transport the vaccines? Most of them needs to be deep-frozen at <-70 degrees.
2225  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Whats the longest you have waited for one confirmation?? on: December 15, 2020, 06:50:40 PM
I have waited for 48hrs, that's been a while when there was a huge confirmation issues. That's when I researched and saw that you could accelerate a Bitcoin transaction using viabtc especially if your transaction fee is small.

Yeah... there are transaction accelerators, and obviously Viabtc is perhaps the most popular one. But I have a feeling that their fee is a bit on the higher side. I used their service only once, and I had to make a payment of around $30. I was quite desperate, as one of my urgent payments was stuck due to low fees. At the same time, other users were paying $5 as the transaction fee in Blockchain and getting instant confirmation. So they are charging manytimes the actual fee. But in the end, we have few other options.
2226  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcoin betting on the 2020 US Presidential Election | Trump vs Biden on: December 15, 2020, 06:37:39 PM
All 2020 US Presidential bets have been settled at BetBTC.

We appreciate your patience.  Wink

Wow!! That's the way to go. Whether the election results will be challenged or not is an entirely different topic. But the gamblers have already waited for more than one month. It is not fair to keep them waiting for anymore, especially when the results are certified, and the electoral college has voted in favor of Biden. I just hope that the other gambling sites will also follow your example.
2227  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 15, 2020, 05:23:26 PM
BTW, I want to go slightly off-topic. Don't you guys think that including two teams from across the Tasman Sea can make BBL more interesting? Let them have two franchises from Auckland and Christchurch. It will increase the overall viewership and give the Kiwis a taste of high-voltage franchise T20 cricket. But logistics can be a concern. Australia itself is huge.. and now we are talking about AUS+NZ.  Grin
2228  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 15, 2020, 04:59:51 PM
Yeah but he always takes wickets in every opening game and then gets injured. Day night game might create some opportunity for off spinners, Oz will use Nathon Lyon so India should use Ashwin accordingly. Jadeja is defensive bowler and Kuldeep didn't look that good during the warm up games so that's another reason. I think Vihari is going to bowl as part-timer.

I don't know whether Vihari can bowl as much as all-rounders such as Jadeja, but after reading your post now it sounds to me that including Ashwin may not be a bad idea. After all, Australians do have vulnerabilities against spin bowlers. I have a feeling that India is going to win the first match. Everyone seems to have written them off, and recently Michael Vaughan came up with his prediction of 0-4 series loss for India. But Kohli and the team has proved many times that they have the ability to perform exceptionally well when playing as the underdogs.
2229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: has bitcoin achieved its goal? on: December 15, 2020, 01:13:15 PM
When BTC price has stabilized for like 5 years, maybe it can then be used as store of value or as currency. Before that it will mainly be used as cash cow and high risk investment.

For usage as store of value, it is not necessary that the prices should remain stable. On the other hand, an asset which can be used as a store of value should have a constant, or increasing purchasing power. A perfect example is that of gold. It's price has increased by almost 100 times during the last one hundred years. But it's purchasing power has remained more or less constant.
2230  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 15, 2020, 12:27:54 PM
I think India may go with Bumrah-Shami-Umesh-Ashwin combination.

Ashwin don't have a good reputation outside the subcontinent. On top of that, the pacers are in very good form. So I would prefer going with four pacers, rather than the combination of three pacers and one spinner. But still someone who can bowl a few overs of part-time spin is required and unfortunately India doesn't have anyone of that category in their squad.
2231  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 15, 2020, 12:16:37 PM
Amazing performance by Peter Siddle, who once again proved that age is just a number. He virtually destroyed Hobart Hurricanes single-handedly and gave valuable points to the Adelaide Strikers. Jake Weatherald also played well to remain unbeaten on 68. And apart from Scott Boland, the other Hobart bowlers proved to be very expensive, including James Faulkner and Nathan Ellis.
2232  Economy / Economics / Re: Pandemic will bring more economic progress in long-term... on: December 14, 2020, 04:48:48 PM
The pandemic will surely bring great economic progress for some countries specially for those who were able to produce massive amount of trial passed vaccine. For the third world countries who weren't able to handle the covid situation well will be the one who will suffer a lot in the future. They ended up in huge debts so it is understandable why their economy will fall down a lot more harder compared to their current status while the pandemic is still active. Maybe, in general, the world economy may improve a lot after the occurence of this pandemic but some will stay unfortunate for sure.

So far only 4 vaccine have passed the phase III trials - vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Gamaleya and Oxford-AstraZeneca. None of these vaccines are priced at astronomical levels, and this means that any potential monetary benefit for the source country is going to be quite limited. However, it can help them in the long term, as the reputation of the medical research facilities in that particular nation improves.
2233  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bangladesh going to accept Cryptocurrency??? on: December 14, 2020, 04:38:57 PM
What makes me interested in this news is the possibility that other countries will follow Bangladesh...
it is not easy to accept cryptocurrency, so if any country accepts it is a great thing. if it proves to be successful then there is no doubt that the surrounding countries will definitely follow it.

There is still no confirmation about this. I have checked the mainstream media from Bangladesh, including bdnews24 and The Daily Star. This news was not mentioned anywhere. I am getting suspicious, because as recently as 2019 there were reports of cryptocurrency traders getting arrested in Dhaka. And there are not many Bitcoin-based businesses there. Bitcoin ATMs and exchanges are not allowed.
2234  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 14, 2020, 04:28:08 PM
The series results would likely be in NZ favour only, but what I was mentioning is that atleast they need to play better in each innings. Like they did play second innings better than first and in the same way need to continue in the rest of the matches. This would just make match more interesting rather than just complete one sided which is just not anybody watches for.

This is actually bad news for teams such as India. With their series win against West Indies, New Zealand is having 480 point in the table for 2019–21 ICC World Test Championship. Both India and England have the same number of points, from the same number of matches. A series loss against Australia can sink India, and this can open the possibility of a final between Australia and New Zealand at Lord's.
2235  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 14, 2020, 04:16:25 PM
One good news is coming from India. BCCI is about to kickstart their domestic season with Sayed Mustaq Ali Trophy (T-20). If everything goes okay then Ranji should be on the cards.

There are rumors that Ranji Trophy will be shelved for this year. I am not sure about the authenticity, but if that happens then it can have a negative impact on the domestic players, who have no other avenue to the longer format of the game. But still it is good news that the domestic T20 tournament will go ahead as planned, with all the 38 member state associations.
2236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptopia Claim without KYC on: December 14, 2020, 01:30:50 PM
I had an account with Cryptopia and I don't even remember the email that I used. Fortunately I had withdrawn most of my BTC before the exchange went down. But still I lost LTC worth around $400. I checked their website and it is saying that the liquidation process is still ongoing. There are no details given on how to recover the funds. The latest communication that I could get hold was this one:

https://www.grantthornton.co.nz/update-for-cryptopia-account-holders-10-february-2020/

They sent out claim emails to users who had an account with cryptopia and balance in altcoins. You should receive the email this month as I already received and filled the form.

Yeah.... I found the email, but for some strange reason I am unable to enter the details. I filled all the necessary fields, and then entered the captcha text and after that I tried to submit. But nothing happens. I was doing it in incognito mode, and later I will do the same on regular browser. Actually I was a bit afraid that the email was some phishing mail sent by hackers.
2237  Economy / Economics / Re: IF USDT would collapse what do you think will happen to the BTC price? on: December 14, 2020, 01:03:15 PM
Unfortunately most crypto traders are not even aware of what stablecoin is, and how easy it is to manipulate the way it is created with almost no serious oversight. Their max supply is actually unlimited, just as fiat is unlimited, and thus they share its destiny. People and human greed will always find a way to spoil even the best solution that someone offers them - but that only shows that the human mindset is not yet ready for the degree of financial independence offered by Bitcoin.

I would never use a stablecoin, unless trading between cryptocurrency and fiat is banned in my country. Here, that is not the case and therefore I have never owned USDT or any other stablecoin. But the situation is different in some of the countries such as China. Direct trading between fiat and crypto is banned and therefore the users are forced to use stablecoins. But nowadays, a lot of the traders even in countries with no restriction in trading are also using stablecoins and this actually surprises me. IMO, stablecoins are like ticking timebomb. No one knows when they will go down.
2238  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: December 14, 2020, 12:30:52 PM
I disagree.

COVID-19 will never be gone and will always exist with us even with a vaccine, the only difference if we'll be vaccinated by a 100% working vaccine is that we'll be immuned to the virus and will no longer be affected by the virus. The only question is that when will we have that kind of vaccine, next thing is the fund needed to buy the vaccine, and the last thing are those people who are not willing to be vaccinated because they are too afraid that they might become a lab rat.

Anti-viral vaccines can never be 100% effective, since the virus mutates very quickly. Any vaccine with more than 60% efficiency can be considered useful in the fight against the pandemic. The vaccines from Russia, Pfizer and Moderna have efficiency of around 95%, while the cheaper vaccine from Oxford/AstraZeneca has an efficiency of around 70%. So it is confirmed that these vaccines can eradicate the curse of COVID 19 in a matter of few months, once the vaccination program starts.
2239  Economy / Economics / Re: Economy after COVID-19 on: December 14, 2020, 12:17:48 PM
That is true. As I usually say, it will take us some time before we experience those things before this pandemic hits. We're not even sure how long that time is but what we know is that the pandemic's effects will last. Just like the jobs some of us have. I think the work from home set up won't be lifted totally unless we can say that the world is covid-free. But at least, we get to keep our jobs and earn and be able to keep ourselves safe from an enemy that we cannot see. However, let's hope that with the development of the vaccine, we can finally say that we have survived the pandemic.

I would like this work-from-home setup to continue. For me, this has been hugely beneficial. I am working in the IT sector, so working from home is very convenient for me. My expenses have been reduced by more than 75%, and the salary has remained unchanged. This means that my savings have almost doubled in a matter of 8-9 months. If this setup continues for another 2-3 years, then I will be in very good shape financially.
2240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 19-Year-Old Ukrainian Politician Owns 185,000 Monero (XMR), Bought In 2015 on: December 14, 2020, 11:50:05 AM
Let's not forget the fact that XMR was trading at $450-$500 per coin three years ago. I am not sure whether he had sold any of his coins back then. From that level, the XMR prices collapsed to $38 per coin by March 2020. But now the prices are going up once again and in my opinion he should consider selling some of his coins to fiat, or to convert a part of his stash to BTC.
