1241  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 03, 2021, 04:19:08 PM
I think they have already tested all the players inside the bubble and that's how they figured out that a couple of players have COVID. They are taking precautions but honestly, still nobody knows how COVID spreads. There are speculations that it is air borne and not just through cough droplets. Especially since many of the COVID carriers are asymptomatic. It could be through surfaces as well..and since there has to be contact with the outer world outside the bubble for ration like grocery items as well as other necessary products. It could be from literally any source. I'm sure they do sanitize anything that comes into the bio bubble but it is interesting how they could contract COVID.

They have already found out how the players tested positive. Varun Chakravarthy left the bubble through the green channel a few days back, and re-entered after getting infected. The official explanation is that he visited a hospital for a shoulder scan and that is how he got infected. But I am not ready to believe this story. Sandeep Warrier was infected inside the bubble, after coming in to contact with Chakravarthy. So in case Warrier can get infected, then I suspect that many more players might have got the virus. The double-mutant strain of the virus gives negative results sometimes.
1242  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Participants Only] [IPL 2021] Prediction pool and discussion on: May 03, 2021, 12:17:02 PM
So many people are testing positive for COVID 19 inside the IPL bubble and there is a good chance that the tournament may get postponed. Now the question is what will happen to this pool? If I understand the rules correctly, the pool will also be paused (please rectify me in case I am wrong). For the Kolkata Knight Riders, some of their key players such as Varun Chakravarthy have tested positive. The BCCI is still claiming that the bubble was not breached and Chakravarthy was exposed when he left the bubble through the "green channel" and visited a nearby hospital to get a shoulder scan. Somehow I think that this story is not entirely believable.
1243  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 03, 2021, 11:48:00 AM
As of now the today's match has got postponed. Maybe the next step will be the postpone of the league. Already few players have left the league for health reasons. Ashwin is one among them, and in a tweet Ashwin's wife had mentioned of her family members ten of the tested positive for covid-19. The spread isn't under control, through any means this can happen and has happened.

There are thousands inside that bio-secure bubble and it may take many days (if not weeks) to test everyone. And by that time, the infection will spread further. Only a few days back the BCCI had claimed that it is impossible for anyone to get infected inside the bubble. Looks like they were wrong. I still don't understand the decision to hold the tournament in India. Last time, UAE was the host and everything went smoothly. Why they wanted to change the venue to India?

So who really helps in treatment in India? Is it possible that the US is keeping the AstraZen vaccine for future reserves because it is feared this will result when the outbreak comes quickly? I know now that the world is critical in terms of aid, including India, which is the most severe, even I saw the news on some local TV, it was very sad to see the death was so high that it was scattered everywhere because no one was able to accommodate it, even oxygen was very limited when this outbreak hit so fast in 24 hours.
A one-off aid only from donations that are often made to raise funds there may help a little of what is needed.

As far as I know, the vaccination program in the United States doesn't use the AstraZeneca vaccine. They are doing the inoculation with three other vaccines - Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. The stockpile of 10 million doses of AstraZeneca is lying in the deep freezer, just because they want to keep it as reserve. And IMO, this is a very unethical thing to do, as most of the developing countries around the world are facing a chronic shortage of vaccines.
1245  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Participants Only] [IPL 2021] Prediction pool and discussion on: May 02, 2021, 02:57:41 PM
I agree. This is easily the worst season for SRH so far and am not surprised. Their continued reliance on their local talent who have been consistently delivering below average performances has become their biggest weakness.

Pandey, Rashid and Bhuvi are the only decent Indian players in their team currently. Axing Warner was a bad move in my opinion since that could have demotivated the team overall. They need to change the selectors too.

Rashid? Dude, Rashid is not an Indian citizen. He represents Afghanistan and therefore the 4-player overseas limit is applicable for him as well. He is based in India and speaks fluent Hindi, so a lot of people think that he's Indian. But overall, the Indian contingent is the problem. Natarajan is absent due to injury, and that leaves just two quality local players (as you mentioned, Pandey and Bhuvi). Others are just making up the numbers.
1246  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 02, 2021, 02:01:30 PM
Pretty boring stuff from the Sunrisers. Bowlers, batters everyone disappointing their fan base. I have no hope left for them in this season, they tried everything including sacking their captain which was wrong move from the start anyway.

They are stuck with a few useless players, who are essentially good for nothing. Here is a list to start with:

1. Vijay Shankar
2. Kedar Jadhav
3. Sandeep Sharma
4. Abdul Samad
5. Abhishek Sharma
6. Shahbaz Nadeem
7. Siddarth Kaul
8. Khaleel Ahmed

Essentially they are playing with 5 or 6 good players instead of 11, and that can be a big handicap in IPL. The injury for Natarajan was like a nail on their coffin, as he was one of the few quality local pacers they had. And firing David Warner was a horrible move and it could have a bad impact on the team morale for the remaining matches.
1247  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-03-22 yahoo! - 'Bitcoin Winter' Could Last For Years After Price Hits $300k on: May 02, 2021, 01:48:19 PM
Bitcoin is growing 7% today. This means that if its growth continues, then within the next month it will be able to fully return all the losses that it suffered due to the negative news background and the correction will remain in the past. The bullish trend will again dominate the market. However, I do not think that this year we will see some kind of rapid growth that can reach such high rates. I think the growth will be gradual and periodic correction is inevitable.
The bullish trend will again dominate the market? I'm sorry but there isn't any bullish trend since several months now. Bitcoin was already above 50 000$ in February (2021), and we are in May now. In my opinion we are in a Wyckoff cycle of distribution and we can face a downtrend aka Phase E now.

Almost the exact pattern was present in 2017 as well, and we know what happened after April that year. There are several factors that should contribute to the Bitcoin bull rally in the coming months. Joe Biden administration has announced a magnificent $6 trillion spending plan, which I would say is the best thing ever to happen to Bitcoin during the last 12 years. And in the background, the user base is continuously growing at a steady pace and the same can be said about the institutional investors.
1248  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin high fee has brought dogecoin to limelight on: May 02, 2021, 01:35:59 PM
due to the high transaction fees of bitcoin which make a lot of altcoins in demand.
not only Dogecoin but some altcoins like TRX also adopt low transaction fees.
That is why the adoption of altcoins such as Dogecoin and TRX also continues because some traders moving money have to use altcoins that have low transaction fees.

One reason why the altcoins went up so much is due to the high transaction fee of Bitcoin and there is no doubt regarding it. The miners have sabotaged whatever proposal that came up in the past to lower the transaction fee. Many of the miners own huge stashes of altcoins and therefore it is beneficial for them if the altcoin prices increase. But I am really concerned with centralized coins such as Dogecoin and Ripple getting the benefit. It is not a great news for the overall health of the cryptocurrency market. Along with the high transaction fee, manipulation has also played its part. But everyone tend to ignore the second factor.
1249  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will BNB become the king of all coins on: May 02, 2021, 01:23:08 PM
There's only one way to prove for them to become the king of altcoins, and that is by beating ETH in standing. Currently, BNB ranks 2nd on the altcoins ranking as you can see in https://coinmarketcap.com/...

The marketcap between ETH and BNB is not close, but the growth of BNB is quite impressive that anytime it could pump again and create a new all-time high.

BNB is still primarily regarded as an exchange token. In terms of usage, the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) is nowhere near the Ethereum Blockchain in terms of the number of users and volumes. As an exchange, Binance is doing pretty well but the same can't be said about BSC. It will take many years for BSC to offer meaningful competition to the Ethereum chain. And until that happens, there is no question of BNB overtaking Ethereum in terms of market capitalization or userbase.
1250  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin high fee has brought dogecoin to limelight on: May 02, 2021, 01:11:07 PM
If high fee was the reason, then why Dogecoin went up with respect to the other altcoins? Ideally Litecoin or Bitcoin Cash (BCH) could have gone up more, as they have a much higher adoption when compared to Dogecoin, as far as usage for making payments is concerned. Dogecoin primarily went up due to the hype created by Elon Musk's tweets and the price manipulation by a few Dogecoin whales. This movement has nothing to do with the higher transaction fee of Bitcoin.
1251  Economy / Economics / Re: Could Bitcoin Smash Socialism in Venezuela? on: May 02, 2021, 01:01:16 PM
Right, Venezuela is slumped because the government provides a large subsidy facility, so that the people are lulled into a comfortable life, they seem to be lazy and do not develop other economic sectors besides oil. coupled with bad governance, so that a mental revolution must be enforced immediately

Even here in India, this type of governing model is being implemented. Once the people are used to freebies and handouts from the government, they seldom get out of that thinking. But the main issue is that with every passing year, they will demand more and more handouts. This will require a hike in the tax rate, which will have an impact on the economic growth. And eventually this will leave the government with less revenue and like the Venezuelan regime they will be forced to print unlimited quantities of banknotes.
1252  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla still an unprofitable automaker on: May 02, 2021, 12:49:46 PM
Yahoo was definitely never a trillion dollar company, but I take your point. The one thing that actual trillion dollar companies have going for them though is a huge competitive advantage and defensive moat. Amazon is an unrivaled logistics company, Microsoft is firmly entrenched in business culture, and Apple is firmly entrenched in consumer culture.  Tesla has a first-move advantage and nothing else.  In a few years, they will compete against every major auto manufacturer and there's no way they'll be able to grow market share enough to justify this valuation, which treats them like they'll be the only EV producer.

During the dot com boom, the NASDAQ index was at around 1/10th of the level which it is now. And Yahoo had a peak valuation above $100 billion in 1999-2000, and the P/E was similar to what Tesla is having right now. But the bubble only lasted for a few months, and the stock prices crashed by more than 90% in 2000-01. In many parameters, Tesla resembles the dot-com stocks of 1999-2000. Their current business model using overpriced EVs is not very sustainable. But we need some more clarity on the competition. A number of other automobile corporations are ramping up their EV sector, but in terms of technology I would like to see how they fares against Tesla. The current competition (Nissan, Hyundai.etc) is noway near Tesla in terms of technology.
1253  Economy / Economics / Re: Economy after COVID-19 on: May 02, 2021, 12:37:56 PM
It seems that one big country is profiting a lot from the vaccination process and that is China. They have multiple vaccines of their own and are exporting them. I saw an article that in south America a lot of countries are relying on the vaccine. The wierd thing is that in the West we don't even talk about it. There is no process to bring the Chinese vaccine variants on the market. Maybe people don't trust China anymore.

China is definitely profiting out of the prevailing situation and there is no doubt regarding this. But for the poorer countries, there is no other option. Pfizer has simply refused to provide vaccines for developing nations. They even asked Argentina and Brazil to put the gold reserves and army bases as bank guarantee to supply the vaccines. Pfizer has so far made tens of billions of USD from the exports of vaccine (two dose of Pfizer vaccine costs $74, and a third booster dose is required after 6-12 months).
1254  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dubai's Government and Gambling on: May 02, 2021, 12:25:05 PM
If Saudi Arabia will allow gambling then many Muslim countries will also allow it, citing Saudi Arabia's example, gambling is haram in Muslim laws there are liberal outlook of some countries because of economic reasons, so visitors should double check if the country with liberal outlook he is visiting allows gambling.

There is a misconception that all the Arab countries are conservative, but that is not the case. There are very liberal countries such as Turkey and Lebanon. And moreover, the current trend is that many of these Arab nations are trying to remove the conservative laws and become more liberal. For example, Saudi Arabia has allowed movie theatres and limited form of partying. On the other hand, the non-Arab Muslim countries are moving in the opposite direction. They are trying to become more and more conservative.

Two matches in IPL today and the only match that will generate any interest is the first one between RR and SRH. SRH won the toss and choose to bowl first. It can be a good decision because RR might not be able to get a competitive score on the scoreboard. The second match is between DC and Punjab and the chance of DC wining it is very high.

You were completely wrong. "RR might not be able to get a competitive score"? Seriously? RR made a total of 220 in 20 overs, with Jos Buttler making 124. I don't understand the decision to bowl first, when the SRH bowlers are in pathetic form. I don't know what was going through the mind of Kane Williamson. SRH's strength is their batting, and they should have opted to bat first.
1256  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Participants Only] [IPL 2021] Prediction pool and discussion on: May 02, 2021, 12:01:23 PM
Another 220 total. It looks like big totals have become a trend in this IPL. That said, at least during the next auctions SRH needs to do something to strengthen their bowling. Apart from Rashid Khan, and to an extent Bhuvneshwar Kumar, none of their bowlers are capable of competing in the IPL. Sandeep Sharma has failed again and again. Khaleel Ahmed has been horrendous this season. And then Vijay Shankar is neither good in bowling, nor in batting.
1257  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Participants Only] [IPL 2021] Prediction pool and discussion on: April 30, 2021, 05:32:40 AM
Bet on RR against MI and got screwed. RR got off to a great start and messed up towards the end due to which they were 20-30 runs short making it easy for MI overall.

Bet on DC against KKR. KKR bowlers are getting thrashed royally by Shaw and Dhawan. After Ritu and Faf, I feel that Shaw and Dhawan are the best opening pair in the current season of IPL.

I have taken a decision of not placing any bets on RR, because despite individual performances from some of the players they have failed to perform as a team. Sanju Samson's captaincy has been horrendous so far. Team members seems to be more concerned about their own personal records, rather than helping the team to get points. Mumbai Indians are not in great form either, but at least Rohit Sharma is managing the team relatively better.
1258  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 30, 2021, 05:11:44 AM
Today we have Punjab Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore. If RCB wins today's match, then they will be on top of the points table. Punjab Kings are inconsistent despite the presence of some of the T20 heavyweights. I don't have much hope for them in this season. I expect today's match to be clearly one-sided, with RCB winning comfortably. If RCB bats first, expect a score in excess of 200. All the RCB batsmen are in terrific form, and combined with the pathetic performance of the Punjab Kings bowlers so far we can expect a record total (in case RCB bats first).
1259  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 29, 2021, 03:33:43 PM
Rajasthan Royals scored 171 runs. But I thought they would score at least 190 runs. All the top-order batsmen have played well. They should have given the MI team more than 190 targets. Moreover, their bowlers did not perform well today. Almost all the bowlers have given a lot of runs.

171 was a defendable total. Still they lost the match, because once again their bowlers failed. As pointed out by JSRAW, Archer's absence has left a huge vacuum, which is yet to be filled. RR went with an unchanged playing XI today, and I think they need to rethink on this strategy. At least some of the players who are not performing up to the mark needs to be dropped. They do have a few good players warming the bench, and these guys deserve one or two outings each. Mayank Markande and Kartik Tyagi are very good bowlers and I am confident that they will be able to perform if enough chances are given.
1260  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: April 29, 2021, 03:10:16 PM
So basically ICC is just jerking around and pretending to be care about Test Cricket. Why would the associate members want to get in the 5 day cricket when ICC is not supporting them fianancially.

The real reason why ICC is not supporting financially may be due to the fact that test format itself is not generating enough revenue. Also, the revenues for ICC are not increasing at a rate which they were hoping for. The big 3 are still against adding another ICC event to the calendar, and the COVID 19 situation led to the postponement or cancellation of some of the ICC events. Also, it looks like the franchise T20 leagues are having a negative impact on international cricket, at least as far as revenue generation is concerned.
