Meanwhile, bitstamp doesn't give a shit anymore what MtGox does.

A possibility :
ALL the speculators on Bitstamp are already out.
Only remain the long term holders and investors who don't care about other exchange prices.

Could be. Also all MtGox users who wanted out because of the USD withdrawal lock have already sold on the other exchanges which explained the big difference lately. If USD withdrawals aren't unlocked this week we will probably see another mass exodus and Bitstamp and BTC-e diving down again creating a new gap.

I tend to lean on more simple issues concerning the Bitcoin economy of the day.

The one fact that we can count on is that miners who have been waiting for months are now getting their orders shipped and in their hands.

They have costs to recoup and will not risk speculating on present market conditions in order to see returns on their hardware investment.

Another fact is the alt coin adoption of past and future GPU miners are of the mine and dump variety who wish to "pay off" their gaming rigs asap.

This is funded by Bitcoin and its present market share may be effected by the increase of this practice.

I feel that those two factor have aggravate this trend and is reducing speculators confidence in Bitcoin's short/long term returns to their investment.
2364  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Swedish ASIC Miner - KnCMiner - New Lower Priced Entry Model on: July 02, 2013, 01:01:42 PM
I gladly see that everybody is cheering and happy, but I will cross post this:

KnC has stated many times that they were looking to aim to the higher segment of the market, because scaling up to massive demand was difficult.

Indeed, if they are big enough is always better to deal with fewer, bigger customers, than more small customers.

The fact they are backtracking so fast looks like a bad omen to me. They already said in a subtle way that the chips order was not placed yet as they were still discussing "how much" with the fab, and figuring out "how many".

I hope this new, smaller unit does not mean they need more  preorders before being able to place the chip order.

Now I will get slaughtered by the wishful thinkers who have wet dreams about KnC delivering in August. Good enough, I know my assumptions are based on rational and cold analysis of facts and not on hopes or emotion driven conclusions.

They definitely backtracked:

2,000 Mercury on stock. Wow. This looks bad to me. You can say they are "listening to the market", but its clear to me that if they had enough orders for Jupiter + Saturn they wouldn't do the additional work required to develop and sell a different, smaller unit, opening the preorders for it in a record time.

IMO, this only means they didn't get enough orders of the previous units. This is starting to look bad.

The good thing is that from the posted drawing concept design the systems now look to be modular per chip.

Notice the 1 day MtGox Volume
2366  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: June 30, 2013, 05:54:36 AM
<snip>
It constantly restarted, due to the dreaded -71 errors.
</snip>
Thanks for the workaround, good to know there is a way to bypass the TP-Link.

just a note about these -71 errors, I was getting the same thing (see   https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=156323.msg2611536#msg2611536  )

ckolivas' new firmware 0627 seems to have fixed this somehow, I've been over 5 hours now without a restart, no more -71 errors, running at 345 mhz - average speed reported 81660 - pool (bitminter) has been guesstimating my speed between 70 and 90+ so it seems to be working quite well,

just wanted to note this in case anyone else is having constant restarts due to -71 errors.

what options are you using?
2367  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 29, 2013, 11:54:23 PM
When my batch 1 unit gets into that state where all temps and fanspeeds are zero (and indeed the fans are stopped), I have to turn off the power supply switch for 20 seconds or so.  When I power it back on, it's happy again.

Just soft-rebooting the wr703n is not enough.

I have my restart timer set at 60 seconds from power off.

2368  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New batch 2 Avalon is "Sick" on: June 29, 2013, 01:59:59 AM

Anyway, new firmware comes out for a reason. Try the latest that I put up.

http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/avalon/20130627/openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr703n-v1-squashfs-factory.bin

I an using the auto feature to set the frequency.  One of my units has 2 sections of one of the modules not working.  I noticed this units sits at a higher frequency than the other 2.  It is the silver unit so maybe it has some batch 1 design features.  Changing temperature by -10C using an air conditioner does not affect the frequency or hashing rate.  I am not sure what it means but maybe this gives a hint about how to go higher.

The silver it is running 78617.32 gH/s at frequency 366

Black units
83078.42 @355
82862.54 @ 352

This is from the silver unit, getworkcount1 and getworkcount8 are zero and the freq is up to 365:

  [match_work_count1] => 0
  [match_work_count8] => 0

the module on Slot 1 on my unit it was the furthest to the right if your facing the avalon from the front. It is the furthest from the control unit has card 1 and 8 not working. you are down 20 chips for what ever reason. Perhaps they are not getting communication or there is another issue at play.

What pool are ya'll mining on?

50btc, btcguild, ozcoin and quite a few others just in case Smiley

Concurrently, you mean?

Yes however I rely on them to baseline my bitcoin hardware performance

yes after a little fiddle i see what you mean.... once again i flashed the 19b firmware with max fans on a btach 1..... straight off the blue fan starts to struggle, so i unscrewed the back screws then lifted up the the top a little and this seems to get the blue fan spinning again at a nice speed........ placing the bots upside down on the sides keeps te gap open at a a bolts height around.....

will test it more tomorrow when i get PSU upgrades.... no point in taking it to bits tonight

that also works rather well.

I did the same thing and adjusted it to the proper gap and it cooled down the unit a few degrees however it is not a permanent solution.
2375  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 27, 2013, 09:54:14 PM
I upgraded lots of my units without a problem. Just had two issues. One 750 Power supply blew out and on another unit I bricked it on a firmware upgrade. Researching now how to fix it unless anyone here knows (I don't think it was a memory issue as my other 17 units are all basically the same).

See if this helps

http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/generic.sysupgrade#luci.web.upgrade.process

what you can do for now is plug it into your laptop computer and run cgminer 3.3.1 it should hot plug if you have a Ubuntu destro.
Do not forget to remove the jumper in order to stop power going to the usb port.

finding these in the EU is proving to be a struggle.... ordering from aamzon.com will be 20-30days delivery Sad

The problem is that there is too much pressure inside the unit.

The two holes in the back of the unit are not adequate to move the increased cfm of air being moved.

A quick fix would be to remove the power supply from inside the Avalon and having placed on top or beside of the unit.

This will permit for more CFM of air to be pushed out the back and enabling the blue fan to operate at 2300 rpm's

It may not solve the display problem however it will solve the underlying issue.

You can tell that your "Blue" fan is not spinning at its max speed when the temp sensor on the controller reports high temps of 28+

so the blue fan only opperates at 2300 rpm's? is this it's max? so replacing with a 3000rpm will be good? and better for CFM when black fans are on 4000RPM?

The problem is that the you need 1 more hole in the back in order to move the cfm of air out of the unit.

This is the issue even if you were to get another black fan running at 3600-4000rpm.
2377  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 27, 2013, 08:45:05 PM
Thanks. Just ordered a fan off of Amazon. Not seeing the rpm in cgminer kind of bugs me.

Dude,
What i did.
1. Removed PSU outside - Ugly hack
2. The PSU hole was sealed to avoid air out
3. The blue fan unplugged/disconnected
4. Tmp sensor mounted outside
5. Blue fan hole sealed to avoid air out

Result:

All temps went down 3-4 degrees Ambient stays constant air conditioned
Result with latest FW - auto-clock between 357-361

Difficulty Accepted:118964.00000000 1191.43/m 85285.68Mhs ACCEPTED BY THE POOL
Up time:   1h 39m 51s

And I am Happy Thanks CON!!!

Nice and good results also risky leaving it on auto Smiley but nice results non the less

This is a dumb question  Smiley Two of the three fans in my Avalon are spinning at 3700 plus RPM. The first one (blue guy) is at 0 RPM. Is that because it is not at 12v 3600 rpm fan? It is running but cgminer is not reading the fan speed. It there a way to fix it?

read that post Smiley should help answer your question.
