2381  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sony Pictures Pulls “The Interview” From Theaters on: December 24, 2014, 11:23:48 AM
I didn't mean that they faked the hack, only that not releasing the movie might be a publicity stunt. Trying to make the best of the situation. But as you and others said, even doing that cost them and cinema chains a lot of reputation, so that doesn't seem the case. But I doubt North Korea was behind this. Too much of a convenient scapegoat.

The retaliation seems to be at North Korea. Internet was down for quite some time in Korea.

People are conveniently forgetting that piratebay fooled people into thinking their servers were in North Korea at one point, I.P addresses are extremely unreliable evidence because they can changed at a whim.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2030073/the-pirate-bay-admits-to-north-korean-hosting-hoax.html

Hell, just by buying a VPN I can make it look like I'm in Russia or Afghanistan and I'm not even a hacker! if hackers can make it look like they're from North Korea. What's to say it really is North Korea, it's wishful thinking from cold war fanatics who don't want things to end.

Oh and we all know how reliable intelligence agencies are when it comes to this kind of bullshit, considering they so certainly said it was all Saddam Hussein's fault 9/11 happened and they were 100% sure he had nuclear weaponry.
2382  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to Fight a PayPal ChargeBack scam? on: December 24, 2014, 11:18:03 AM
Don't use paypal if you can afford not to, everyone's been warned about this on here hundreds of times.
2383  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Majority of British citizens want to quit EU on: December 24, 2014, 10:13:49 AM
They just got out of the Scotland scare and they want to move out of EU?

Speaking as somebody who was born and actually lives there, yes, a lot of people hate the EU simply because it is a bloated, inefficient bureaucracy that is trying to build an empire and more importantly it is an unelected bureaucracy. Others are obviously your classic xenophobes but I think more are just tired of being told what we can and can't do as a country despite having our own elected government, we might as well be a protectorate of the EU right now.

If we can finally have a referendum in 2015 I will certainly be voting on it and I will be voting to get out, I hope people won't be falling for the same scare mongering bullshit that was pulled on us with the Scotland referendum. You can expect our media to do what you guys had with the tea party where they point the cameras at all the xenophobes there and try to paint everybody who's against the EU that way because of course a lot of the politicians want careers in the EU government somewhere because they won't have to worry about re-election Wink
2384  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin > Banks! WINNING! Banks caught scamming! on: December 24, 2014, 09:43:59 AM
lol 'attempted' currency manipulation, they manipulate currencies on a daily basis and are sanctioned by governments to do it.
2385  Other / Off-topic / Re: Turning life upside down, 250k. on: December 24, 2014, 09:19:44 AM
I'd immediately invest it in passive income so I wouldn't have a problem with money for a long while Tongue dividends and such.
2386  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sharks nine times more likely to kill men than women, study says on: December 24, 2014, 12:31:49 AM
I came in here expecting to see an argument about feminism and gender equality
(But I came in here too soon to see it  Grin)

I'm sure it will devolve into that because for once we all agree this is a really stupid article, it's like seeing creationists comment on evolution.
2387  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-12-19] CBSNews: Will digital currency go mainstream? on: December 23, 2014, 10:05:18 PM
Definitely better than a lot of crap out there, I think the journalists are finally starting to learn now lol Tongue

A newbie bumping an old thread? Hope this is a legit conversation but johnniewalker has been known for dealing dodgily for sometime now, haven't seen him around very much actually so maybe his practices finally caught up to him or he gave up, there have been plenty of complaints about him.
2391  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why can't I sink anymore. on: December 23, 2014, 11:00:31 AM
Well you can control it if you concentrate, but it's a pretty stupid thing to do to deliberately ignore your instincts sometimes, unless it's some kind of fear you've gained which would get you into more trouble if you pay attention to it.

This too, sometimes it's body volume Tongue
2392  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How are doomsday preppers using BTC in their plans? on: December 23, 2014, 10:47:50 AM
Pfft, I don't think there will be a doomsday, chaos certainly, but the only people it will be a doomsday for is those who use this era of paper currency to maintain their current lifestyle Wink
2393  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why can't I sink anymore. on: December 23, 2014, 10:17:01 AM
Duh, it's because subconsciously you're afraid of drowning so your body reacts to that, it's like when you have something come towards your face and you think it might hit you automatically shield yourself, same thing, our brain pretty much develops defense mechanisms against that sort of thing as we get older.
2394  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why can't I sink anymore. on: December 23, 2014, 10:09:30 AM
Doesn't anyone else find it strange that as a child without the skills of swimming you immediately sink in a pool, but when you're an adult who knows how to swim, it's impossible to sink even if you try.

That's because you've become aware of how water works and have learned, as a child you know fuck all about water so you don't know how to handle it and panic, that said, there are adults in life that don't really know how to swim still or haven't really been able. Pretty much because they weren't really taught properly, it happens all the time, for instance I have major gaps in my knowledge because of my shitty education but I have slowly been filling them again.
2395  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is the answer to life, the universe and everything 37? on: December 23, 2014, 09:03:24 AM
It's also worth bearing in mind that we know fuck all about the universe outside our own galaxy so it would be incredibly arrogant to claim that there are no species like us out there, unless of course you're forgetting about apes and monkeys but of course creationists do like ignoring scientific fact don't they?

2399  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I see bitcoin as a ponzi scheme on: December 22, 2014, 01:50:14 PM
They must be because it's just completely incoherent ranting the majority of the time and they seem to have just completely made up what Bitcoin actually is in their own heads. When people talk about Bitcoin being a bubble or a ponzi scheme I always respond or at least think "If it's a ponzi scheme and a scam, why would they make it open source" people who are infinitely more skilled then they are in programming and cryptography have all looked at it and acknowledged it so they really are just talking out of their own arses.

This isn't anything new though, people spread the same kind of bullshit about the internet, heavy metal and computer games which supporters of Bitcoin have rightly pointed out several time and of course everyone who actually looked at what these people were ranting about knew what they were simply either totally ignorant of the subject or just blatantly lying.

A lot of neo-keynesian types are definitely going to come after cryptocurrencies as much as possible, partly because they're going to be put out of business finally.
2400  Other / Off-topic / Re: Amazon Coin. Just had to laugh when I saw this. on: December 22, 2014, 09:14:05 AM
lol we all knew they would pull something like this, I suspect Paypal will do something similar, they're against the decentralised models so of course they aren't going to adopt Bitcoin, I think it's just wishful thinking on the part of the Bitcoin community.

Sure it'd be nice, but it's not realistic.
