reckman, your setup wins my personal coolness award for this year. nice work.

thanks, i think its a great option if you dont want to pay the extra 100% removing the extra heat from your house. Plus it cuts the noise in half

600 W is 2000 BTU/hr so a 1 ton / 1 kW unit can remove 12000 BTU/hr of heat and it has an EER of 12 that means you're using 2/12=1/6th of the unit's 1 hour duty at 167 W so I'd rule of thumb this around 1/3 of the wattage in additional cooling expense instead of 100%

you are actually correct here, guess i had never done the math, doesnt really make thermodynamic sense but w/e
250  Economy / Computer hardware / Sold [WTS] ZTEX 1.15y Clone - Bad Firmware on: June 09, 2013, 11:11:41 PM
Not really sure what is wrong with the board, all four lights are on...tried different power cables, different usb, different computer, moving the jumper, nothing seems to work.  Not sure how to reassign new firmware without the libsub driver. I think this might require jtag to reprogram (although this board doesn't have the connector attached)? i don't know.  Will ship with heatsinks if requested.

Taking offers, not looking for a ton.

Buyer pays actual shipping from USA, OH, 45220 (USPS, UPS, FEDEX)
Escrow Paid by Buyer if Needed

Feel free to ask questions or have me test something

500 cfm is a joke lol, a set of case fans do 500cfm, you need way more than that for 8 7950's

255  Economy / Speculation / Re: Prices are up.. On Ebay on: June 09, 2013, 10:07:19 PM
I have been watching bitcoin related auctions on ebay a lot lately.
Mostly because I wanted to track the fall in price of the block erupter USB miners. But also to buy any good deals on fractional bitcoins if I see any.

It has been interesting to observe prices for bitcoins on ebay since the price started to fall.
When it was around $130-$135 people were frequently paying around 10-20% premium to buy on ebay. This is expected because ebay takes 10% and another 3% or so from paypal.

However, as the price fell I noticed less bitcoins for sale and the prices went up. Now it seems a 40%-60% or more premium on price is common.

My guess is that as the price has fallen, sellers expecting the amount they could sell their coins for to go down decided to hold on to them and wait and see if the market price goes up having the effect of driving prices up on ebay.

Maybe something else is at work. But it is interesting to observe.

nah the premium is due to fraud rates on ebay

Thanks man Cheesy

@Reckman, what are the temps like in that case?

not bad as long as the outside air is reasonable in temp, like 75 deg C, hot days all of the cards are 80+ and end up throttling

I think the air flow could be a ton better with a real industrial fan/blower, instead of the computer ones i have

257  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: June 09, 2013, 07:18:40 PM
Spent some time last year building an air economized rig instead of the standard air conditioned setup.

I first started with the idea to move the bitcoin miners outside to remove all of the heat and noise from my house, but that ended up not being so practical due to weather and risk of having things stolen. So i built a box with two 6" diameter air intakes and two 4" diameter exhausts from a used cabinet i found on craigslist. There are two FRAM air filters on the intakes to remove w/e crap gets in there. So far havn't been any real issues with particles or humidity. Temperatures have been getting shitty in the hot weather (80+ deg f), but in the past have been really good. If I were to do it over again I would better design the air flow. With 80 deg F intake you need a ton of CFM to keep cards cooled. All of the fans are high quality server fans, they move a ton of air, but use alot of power (3-4x a normal fan, they use .9 to 1.5 amps @ 12v). I remove the exhausts in the winter and just dump the heat into the house.

GPU Mining is about done with so sold them off, going to load it up FPGAs and ASICs.
