Looks like we've hit an impasse. Here's the way I see it:
- We've got a barebones crew of the old Karma team holding the fort. But they seem to be out of ideas and resources to really start bringing this coin back on track. At least they've not communicated anything that inspires confidence recently. The only member who really showed initiative and got some things done is East, everbody else has basically just been talking (and sometimes showing dangerous symptoms of kosmost-worship). A month after the big implosion and you're still arguing who's supposed to take over/host the existing Karma services. Really? I begin to see why kosmost felt nothing got done without him. The current team seems to lack the resources, know-how and/or willingness to take over even just the existing infrastructure. I'm really sorry to say this, but you're not exactly inspiring faith here guys.
- Two parties have offered help, an outside third party (dvd) and previously known big investors who have decided to finally show face (perica & andré). Both have so far been open, shared not only their plans but also their identities - which is rare for cryptos - and offered development and hosting support. Yet they're being met with IMO way overblown levels of mistrust and scepticism. I guess that's natural, they're certainly not doing this for altruistic reasons and we won't agree on all points (e.g. I am strongly against a reverse split). But they're offering a lot of things that would be of real value to Karma and the combination of the their non-profit and for-profit orientations could turn out to be complementary to each other.
You want the community's trust? I'd say you guys join forces and make it happen. You're putting a whole lot more value on the table than there is right now and you don't really need permission to go ahead and integrate Karma into existing services, or create new ones. Nobody is asking Satoshi "can I open up a new bitcoin wallet/bank, is that OK with you?". The network is runnign smoothly, no need to change and fork the coin right now or anything like it. Just do it.
- The community has basically just shut up at this point and waits how this situation is going to be resolved. I do not expect we are going to return to previous levels of activity until the coin has a clear new direction and the old wounds have healed.
I have no solutions, I can only share my opinion. Karma is a great coin and used to have a great community. It deserves better than the bickering and fighting that's plagued this thread the past weeks. I am NOT saying the current devs need to go or hand over the coin or anything, but everyone should seriously put their own ego aside and take a long hard look at what is actually the best way forward for Karma right now. I still think you guys can find a way to peacefully work together.

What happens with Lill (Web Search)?
Lil was sold , several dumps occurred too, goodbye cruel world, Tahiti here I come ! Lill was not sold. Market activity has/had nothing to do with Lill. Please get your 'facts' straight before relaying them to others. Should you have specific questions please let us know. Why is Lill.com not online anymore? I hope this question is specific enough. The short answer was given: server costs were too high to keep it running (I think kos said 500$/month). The real question is what happens to Lill in the future. Will it reappear and development commence at some point (as a Karma related project)? A lot of us grew attached to it over the months, but the thing is: Lill belongs to kosmost and he can do whatever he wants with it. If he wants to share his plans with us - great! If not its none of our business... |

I told multiple time what I think happened here. I will not help KARM in any way, until it is not clear what happened on 31.August and until there is some trusted proof KarmaShares and Lill.com was not scam. I do not want to be on one list with Kosmost in any way.
Holy s***, I hadn't even seen that event yet! The 1 week chart didn't show it when I got back from vacation. Can anyone say/prove with reasonable certainty wether those dumps happened before or after the knowledge of the declined Lill deal became public? |

Then we could tweet articles linking back to the website and get more traffic there as well...just a thought.

Well, it doesn't look like our Block Explorer at Cryptexplorer.com is coming back.
That's too bad. They ran a pretty good service. Maybe they'll find their way back yet.
UNO is still well served by two explorers: Cryptap.us and Chainz.cryptoid.info
It would be nice to have a third as a backup, but that's more of a luxury than a requirement.
The inconvenience is to web pages (including unobtanium.uno) who pulled data from Cryptexplorer's api. I recommending a switch over to Chainz' API. I have included links to Chainz machine readable data for UNO in the OP.
Over the course of a mere year, as I look at all of the explorers we've had and lost, and exchanges that have come and gone, I understand that this is just how it goes in cryptoland. There will be times when Unobtanium, through no fault of its own, will just need to pick itself up and move on. There have been many altcoins that have been completely killed off by smaller setbacks than this; Uno will not be one of them.

a. The idea of a coin dedicated to doing good is very appealing. Crypto appears to bring out the worst in people and Karma was one of the few places where it didn't seem to be as bad - util now. No new coin spawning from this community would IMO have an advantage over just salvaging Karma itself. Concerning the events, I had a very hard time sleeping last night. I still do not have a clear picture what happened as I missed most of the past 2-3 weeks, but signs of kosmost's skin wearing thin were coming through before that. He was still in large parts responsible for all the good things that happened to Karma since march, and for that we owe him thanks. And despite all the things that are obviously not cool about the way the past 24 hours played out, it seems pretty clear this was not a scam. All Karmashares funds were (or are being) returned and for the most part people can't even claim huge losses on those coins, as Karma price is in similar regions compared to when the LLC was set up (higher in LTC actually, but that has lost worth). Karma is in no worse shape than when kosmost and team took over, although it is much worse off compared to 2 months ago. So thanks for nothing I guess... I enjoyed working with you and I'm grateful that I can continue doing it Same here my friend. |

This is so not what I hoped to read on returning from my vacation. Haven't had much time yet to check up on things, only skimmed over the thread briefly yesterday and things seemed to be a bit rough, but not terribly so.
This though ... is like The End. Feels like it at least. So. Sad. A good dream that lasted 6 months and ended up becoming a nightmare.

Hi everybody,
Just wanted to put (another?) call out for someone who would want to be a webmaster for our Blue Crypto Award.
It would be a simple list of our nominees with summary and UNO voting addresses that I would provide. We hope to get the list to update - sorting with most-voted-for up top. Not sure how a coder would work with the blockchain to do that, though. The website doesn't actually mess with hot funds at all.
We will put out calls for nominees, and I would personally write fair summaries for each and assign the voting addresses, so the webmaster would just get data from me, almost on a daily basis for updating. This should be a simple process for the webmaster, then.
Add typical UNO crypto info, like how to obtain UNO (exchange or wallet download) for voting, etc., and some UNO promotional graphics, and that's it!!!

Actually, I don't mind discussions about price. it's normal. I only mind when it is the majority of discussions at times when there are more important things to discuss, or there is a ton of stuff to do and our team would rather spend 5 hours discussing price rather than 5 hours working on something.
I've written several lengthy posts on the Lill deal, its possible benefits for Karma, needed changes in priorities and concrete proposals on services we'd need to help get things moving faster in the future. Didn't exactly get much of a reaction on it though. At least not as much as on a one-liner about price got. So maybe you're right and people do care too much about that and too little about important matters. Please, take me on holiday with you!

Sort of like I predicted a while ago (when we were still trading at >250 lit): if the offer is declined we'll retrace to 140 lit. Well, we're already close to that now and we have a second chance, but also even further to fall if nothing happens. Will we see < 100 lit Karma again soon?

We want such returns weekly!" Please.. someone. Tell me if you think the CEO and management of any successful publicly-listed company looks at their stock price every couple of hours (or more, like most of us here seem to do) *and* let price swings determine the future of their company. What did Mark Zuckerberg do when Facebook stock was tanking and people were calling for his head? He took a long holiday with his new wife, because he knows how emotional and irrational markets can be. Some see "the end of the world" in the tiniest speck of dust. But when you're done losing money in scamcoins that won't be around in 5 weeks, we'll welcome you back. Slow and steady wins the race. LOL kosmost, sometimes you care too much. Believe me I do not enjoy that my prediction came true. I was going to add "Then I might have to start buying again.", but - as I currently have absolutely zero BTC to spend - I left it out simply because I couldn't. Would that have sounded better? I know you hate people discussing price but relax, that's how this market and these forums works. Karma is traded on exchanges and you got to admit - right now trading is the primary usecase for Karma. Or can you name me a better one? We all want to change that yeah, but until that happens most people here are just trading coins. There's nothing bad about being a trader. That's how most of us got here in the first place. There would be no Karma and no community without that. Look, I've purchased my first Karmacoin the day Mintpal opened. I've mined it for quite some time. I've registered on these boards because of it (even though it looks like you might prefer I hadn't ). I've bought all through our depression. This is not true, stop reproducing lies. I removed the "block-explorer"-functionality and broken search, validation blocks/transactions and the API work just fine, because no matter how much i detest people's actions the coin still needs validation and a fucntional API. If you need full access you can contact me via email, it's posted on the front-page of the explorer, real hard to overlook. Please stop reproducing lies, spend just two seconds fact-checking before you post. Can I even reach your explorer anymore? I can't seem to find a link. My intention was not to attack you, but to make a point. You stopped just short of taking the entire thing offline. You acted rashly and left the team only a few (6) hours to react. IIRC the decision (or at least announcement) to keep the API online was posted after the fact, but it doesn't matter. Thing is, someone less responsible than you might have just decided to take the entire thing offline, because "well fuck it" - you know? My point is not that YOU did something wrong, my point is that a coin that wants to grow out of this whole shitcoin scene and be taken seriously, can not allow itself to depend on such an important service being supplied by an anonymous community member (that may choose to disappear overnight). |

I really can't believe the price didn't go wild on that $2.5 million deal. Wat? No other alt has that kind of thing in the works. Very odd.
I was checking the price when Kosmost announced that offer. There were few hundreds of LTC placed on buy orders. Multiple buyers started to pump the price up to 200 litoshi on cryptsy. But buyer was playing with that buy wall, moving it and removing it. Than it disappeared. Clean sign, people do not know what to do. For sure they want to buy, but they want to buy as cheap as possible. Since KARM is mined heavily, like 50 mil KARM/day, there is lot of dumpers. Block reward will be cut from 35000 to 20000 in 2 weeks. So if the news will not make immediate spike, people are waiting for cheaper KARM to buy in 2 weeks. But I am sure, one single buyer with 2000 LTC buy wall at 150 litoshi would force others to pump the price up heavily. Or at least scan of the offer document would help. People are confused and I don't blame them. The signals from Karmashares are sort of mixed right now. On the one hand news of a new offer is released, on the other hand you quickly see there's a tendency to reject the offer. There's talk of a vote, but no procedure to even handle it! The LLC was founded months ago, yet we still have no final structure, no way for members to vote, track their shares or anything. There's an unfortunate lack of progress on that front. Add to that the lack of any proof the offer is real. We, the Karma community, might trust kosmost as we've witnessed his dedication for months, but why would anybody outside the core Karma community (which is maybe 30 people) trust his word? Markets are very uncertain right now. The huge amount of scams lately has brought trust and faith in crypto to a new all-time-low. Also issues like being without a block explorer (even if just for a short amount of time) really show a lack of resources behind the coin currently. Which is weird, because the transition to X11 was executed extremely well. Yet being without an explorer is really a no-go for any alt that wants to be taken seriously. If you hand't jumped in socoban, would we even have a working explorer yet? I don't want to attack the team at all, as they've done a marvelous job since taking over for the most part. As far as community takeovers go, this was an A+ grade job. But a coin cannot forever rely on anonymous and potentially volatile community contributions (like altcoingood's explorer that vanished overnight) for features that are essential. Especially not a coin that has such grand ambitions. Neither can a company that has, quite successfully, completed a round of crowdfunding (that's basically what Karmashares quantum periods were) expect community volunteers to build their future services for them. Most of this could BTW be solved by accepting the offer. The funding it brings would allow the LLC to finally finish setting up and hire some full-time developers to build and provide a rock-solid array of basic services and essential infrastructure (like online wallets, Karma API for easy use in apps and websites, mobile and sms wallets). That would be the kind of setup from which a community can start getting creative and come up with its own original and creative ideas, to finally pursue bringing the Karma vision we've been discussing for so long to life. Right now we're stuck in limbo due to a distinct lack in resources. How can I even start building an innovative mobile app for Karma if I'd basically have to build my own version of blockchain.info first, in order to implement basic features? Just some food for thought... |
