so you don't think its possible for some one or some thing to hijack bitcoin and force a certain percentage of the transaction inputs to go to a certain address?
Nope. That's the good thing about Bitcoin: nobody can control it.

Quote
the antichrist could probably do that but i'm not sure if he has come yet but the bible talks about the antichrist. he could probably do it.  Shocked
I already thought you're trolling with the statements you make. Now I'm sure.
I agree that the government cannot control Bitcoin, but it can perfectly control financial systems. In my country, you can buy gold, silver, platinum and other precious metals in the bank app, and you can also buy company shares. This opportunity did not appear yesterday; it has already been working for more than 5 years. I think that in a couple of years Bitcoin will appear there, and then other cryptocurrencies. And people will not use real bitcoins, but will use custodial services.

bbc.reporter, you don't think this "tears in my eyes" news is just another circus act. I think that Gary Gensler is one of the participants of this market, who works in the interests of big manipulators.
Of course Gary Gensler has a little leeway, but when the big players need to accept Etherium spot ETF, Uncle Gary will do it again with tears in his eyes Grin
245  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Question about capital gain. on: April 03, 2024, 10:11:24 AM
It's not taxation, it's robbery. I am sure that serious investors invest millions of dollars and their income is much higher than £150000. Investors risk their assets, and in case of a successful investment they have to give 40-50% of their profits to the state.  This is not an adequate tax solution.
246  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: OFAC has imposed sanctions against Russian blockchain service operators on: April 03, 2024, 10:05:13 AM
But Netex24 is really just a simple exchanger, like hundreds of other exchangers listed in Bestchange. Probably, the only difference betwee Netex24 and other exchangers is that Netex24 tried to conduct legal business via a legal entity in Russia. OFAC might find the only lrgal entity among hundreds of exchangers and include it in their SDN list. All other exchanger act anonymously, and it's impossible to impose sanctions against them.
All large exchanges have a legal entity in Russia, but this is done in order to show at least some documents when there is an inspection, in order to avoid criminal liability for illegal entrepreneurship. It is illegal to work without opening a legal entity. But exchangers do not publish their legal data on the website.. And the whole exchange process is the same as it was 5 years ago.

SEC Asks Judge To Order Ripple To Pay Nearly $2,000,000,000 in Fines and Penalties
"The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has asked a judge to order Ripple to pay nearly $2 billion in fines and penalties.

The SEC first sued the payments company in late 2020 for allegedly selling XRP as an unregistered security.

Last summer, US District Judge Analisa Torres ruled that Ripple’s automated, open-market sales of XRP, referred to as programmatic sales, did not constitute security offerings, contrary to what the SEC alleged."

I remember before the fines were in the tens of millions, but now the SEC does not work with small fines Smiley

Binance executive detained in Nigeria amid a crypto crackdown has escaped custody
"KADUNA, Nigeria (AP) — An executive of cryptocurrency exchange Binance has escaped custody in Nigeria, where a criminal investigation has been launched against the platform accused of being used for money laundering, authorities said Monday.

Nadeem Anjarwalla, the regional manager for Binance in Africa, “fled Nigeria using a smuggled passport,” the office of Nigeria’s National Security Adviser said in a statement, calling for “whatever information that can assist law enforcement agencies to apprehend the suspect.”

Ethereum - ETF.

Where did you get the information that Bitpapa is the largest platform for exchanging bitcoins for rubles?
I have already mentioned that is is based on my personal experience. If I need to exchange bitcoins to rubles or vice versa, I usually post offers on Bitpapa, t.me/wallet, LocalCoinSwap, HodlHodl, RoboSats, and LNP2PBOT. Bitpapa used to be the place where, in most cases, I could sooner find a counterparty for such a deal, even if I offered an exchange rate there which was as attractive as the rates I offered on other platforms.
There are 2 types of users on p2p exchangers.
The bank has already blocked bank cards for some users for suspicious financial transactions, but not yet for other users Smiley
253  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Pending justice for SBF on: March 31, 2024, 12:04:28 PM

The court verdict for SBF has already been made, and the nuances of American justice are of no interest to most readers.
anyone that lost money in sam's little scam no matter where they live is interested in seeing him punished in full and also getting repaid, not just the fiat value of their coins at the time but the full fiat value of what their bitcoin is worth NOW. which is alot more but can never happen.

Quote
Am I the only one who wonders what will happen to the Gary Potter fan(Caroline Ellison) and other participants in the fraudulent scheme, or will SBF be responsible for everything alone?
sam should be held resposible for EVERYTHING. clearly he wasn't. people will not be repaid in full not now not ever. even if bitcoin goes to $100,000. the only they could get paid back is if bitcoin went down to $1000. then sam could scoop it up cheap and repay all those people their bitcoin then...until he does that, i say keep him locked up.
Any investor who has lost their money in SBF's little scam should first think twice before making any further investments. A smart investor diversifies risks so that in the event of a scam, he does not lose all his capital. And if someone invests all-in, then SBF is not to blame. The idiot will still lose his money.
I lost some of my money because I diversified it into the Terra USD stablecoins of the Do Kwon project. But personally, I don't care whether Do Kwon is punished or not. I made bad decisions, so I don't hate Do Kwon.
254  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: OFAC has imposed sanctions against Russian blockchain service operators on: March 31, 2024, 11:51:34 AM
because these are not the largest or most famous exchangers.
Three months ago, Bitpapa was the largest platform for exchanging bitcoins for rubles. At least, based on my experience, it was possible to find a counterparty for such exchange on Bitpapa faster than on any other platform, and make the exchange at the best rate. But now the leadership in BTCRUB exchanges has been intercepted by the p2p market on the t.me/wallet platform. And OFAC did not include it in its list. Perhaps OFAC simply acts with a delay, and its latest decision does not take into account the growth of  t.me/wallet which became a more popular platform than Bitpapa.
Where did you get the information that Bitpapa is the largest platform for exchanging bitcoins for rubles? I can agree that Bitpapa spends a lot of money on advertising and this platform is known in Russia, but I have not used it. Such platforms have the same end, because p2p exchanges end in a large number of scams, and the police are forced to respond when victims write a lot of reports.
255  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC vs Coinbase on: March 30, 2024, 09:55:22 AM
bbc.reporter, I agree that for Coinbase any agreement will be beneficial because they will get official permission to "haircut" hamsters in one of the richest countries in the world. A lot of crypto companies have either closed down or fled the US because it is very difficult to work with such laws.
But Gary Gensler still has a lot of work to do.. Grin

257  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Pending justice for SBF on: March 30, 2024, 09:44:44 AM

This suggests that the lawyers I know understand more about these nuances. To file an appeal, you need very serious circumstances and facts that have not yet been announced in court before. And in order to get out of prison for good behavior, you need to serve a certain period of time there. In Russia, this only works after a person has served 2/3 of his sentence.

so the jury did their part finding him guilty on all 7 counts and all the judge could do is slap him on the wrist. this justice system is a joke. pathetic judge. he didn't really take the jury's verdict seriously at all. thats one thing that is wrong with the justice system is how a judge can just overrride what the jury wants. because i am sure they wanted more than 25 years (12 with good behavior).

"Even though twelve out of every fourteen of Sam's weekly meals are just undercooked rice, a scoop of disgusting-looking beans and week-old brown lettuce, Sam has stayed true to his commitment to not participate in the maltreatment of animals," Simpson said in his letter.

but he didn't have any problems mistreating fellow human beings.  if he really is vegan then he should be HAPPY to be getting rice and beans...that's what "vegans" eat  Embarrassed

There is no such thing as "American Bitcoin addresses". Miners can only mine valid transactions, which means your own wallet would have to create an "IRS change" output. That's not going to happen.

why wouldn't it happen? it could technically happen. all the governments of the world unite to form a special multisig bitcoin address where every transaction has to have a "change" output to that address for paying taxes. then the governments would force bitcoin to put that into the consensus rules that a transaction had to have that change address and it had to be XX% of the total sum of all utxo inputs to the transaction. very simple. if the governments got together and demanded that then it would get baked into the protocol. because the alternative would be prosecution.

this is a better way because then no one has to worry about paying taxes on anything bitcoin related. it would all happen automatically. the government could force the same thing on other blockchains if they got big enough like ethereum. very simple way to make sure that people pay their taxes.
A better way to control citizens is to implant a chip in a person's brain, then the government will know everything about its citizens.

____
Colleagues, I don't understand you. If Russia will have such stupid laws, no one will implement them. If a miner needs to know the sender's kyc, he will mine to a new address, and then think how to legalize these coins, if necessary.

And if tomorrow a law comes out that will oblige all crypto users to pass a lie detector, where they will ask about taxes paid, will you also go to comply?

When will your patience run out and you will say that I am ready to pay taxes and I pay them as a law-abiding citizen, and if you do not like my transactions, let blockchain analysis companies and other specialists do it?

The Russian government uses rubles, and I am 99.9999% sure that these exchangers are in no way connected with the Russian government, because these are not the largest or most famous exchangers.
Despite all the sanctions, Russian gas reaches Europe through the territory of Ukraine. Do you need proofs of this or will you find it yourself?
Even if they have rubles, that doesn't mean that they don't have any use for USD, I'm sure that other countries would be willing to get those USD from them in exchange for goods and services, remember that there's countries that haven't complied with the sanctions against Russia and they will only accept USD to give the Russians what they want in terms of export and import, Russia is still doing international trades so it's not that difficult to believe that they're using those USD from these exchanges for the purpose of keeping an economy on the international market.
Despite all the sanctions, Russia is a major global supplier of raw materials, agricultural products, and so on.
Of course Russia will use dollars and euros and other currencies, but I am telling you that the government does not use these exchangers.

I couldn't find anything on the recent custody of law enforcement agents have raided a few Russia based exchanges so I post the translation here. According to Russian crypto-news portal Bits.media:
"Search warrants were given to several trading platforms in Moscow. Russian article is here. One of the exchanges had placed an announcement about "technical survey"on their web-site."
Not much is known on the consequences but this header is repeated by several media outlets. As far as I can see crypto crowd didn't react on this custody occurrence. Any thoughts?
You need to be able to read and understand this news properly, and for that you need to understand what is going on in the Russian crypto community. There are hundreds of such exchangers with offices in Moscow City, and there are still a large number of companies there that are involved in training, investing, arbitrage and other cryptocurrency-related matters. Very often there are frauds, deceptions and that's why police officers go to Moscow City every day as a job. Such news can be published every week Smiley
260  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: More Regulation Incoming! on: March 29, 2024, 08:20:19 AM
bbc.reporter, We usually think that our wallets are anonymous, but in reality there are many ways to find the owner. For example, when a person looks at the blockchain explorer, his IP is recorded and analyzed. and VPN will not always help limit anonymity. But most of life does not happen on the blockchain, and a person can be punished through a social rating system if he is bad in the opinion of the country's government.
