Mark Karpeles: Another MtGox style disaster 'waiting to happen' if bitcoin exchanges don't adapt

Quote
Mark Karpeles, the former CEO of failed bitcoin exchange MtGox, has revealed his concerns about how cryptocurrency exchanges continue to be run.

In a blogpost titled Didn't We Learn Anything?, Karpeles suggested different ways that exchanges might be operated in order to avoid another collapse similar to that of MtGox.

Karpeles has consistently denied any wrongdoing in the disappearance of $500m (£327m, €449m)  of bitcoins from the Tokyo-based exchange in 2014, however he has conceded that he suspects someone from within the company was responsible.

242  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What do you expect from dice sites? on: June 03, 2015, 07:00:50 PM
I mean, dice game is really simple,and many sites offer the same more or less( in terms of gaming),dice with bot with some configurations.

What makes you decide for a dice site to play in it?

I can think of the following things a dice site must have to make me playing my BTC with it.

  • A light, nice, UI;
  • a stable, responsive, debugged site working on multiple devices (notebooks, tablets, smartphones, etc.);
  • a friendly, responsive, problem-solving customer support answering on multiple channels (site chat, btct forum, e-mail, etc.);
  • a low house edge;
  • provably fair;
  • a customizable autobet feature;
  • fast rolls;
  • instant deposits & withdrawals;
  • a good faucet feature;
  • an investment option.
243  Other / Meta / Re: better feedback on report accuracy on: June 03, 2015, 05:56:32 PM
Well first thing I want to address, is that the indicator isn't used for people to get competitive over. If you have 50 reports with 50% accuracy, that is still highly appreciated. Getting your score as high as possible isn't a huge concern.
I didn't mean to start this topic as a competition about the metric.  My concern is that I'm being shown that sometimes I'm innaccurate, but I can't really tell which of my reports were the innaccurate ones.  That seems a little broken.  Why tell me at all if I can't use the information to improve?

I cannot have resisted to post a Mine is bigger than yours picture; however, I mostly agree with the point that knowing what reports are goods or bads could help people reach a better understanding of the meaning of the forum rules. However, this is still doable without any further Admin intervention, simply by partecipating in initiatives like Muhammed Zakir's Help the forum and earn Bitcoins! initiative by looking what post have not been deleted. I have to credit it to allowing me to better grasp forum rules meanings & recovering my reports' accuracy rates after a dozen of bad reports, in my newbie days of course.
244  Economy / Lending / Re: Need 0.05 btc loan on: June 03, 2015, 05:11:55 PM
IMHO, caskey4521 could have earned easily the amount he borrowed from you by enrolling in a signature campaign, like the Da Dice one. So what was the real purpose behind his loan request? To build trust, to scam lender...or he was simply bad at taking economic decisions?
By the while...I left him a temporary -ve trust feedback. I really hope it would help you recover your money; however, IMO this whole situation could have been really simplified if you have asked him to provide a valid collateral to cover the loan you provided him.
245  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-06-02] CD: BitFury to Release Light Bulbs that Mine Bitcoin in 2015 on: June 03, 2015, 04:57:15 PM
Well they can always use it for security lights, because they stay on for the longest period.  Wink {But it would be too expensive to use outdoor}

It is a very good concept, but I fail to see how it would be profitable for the consumer. If it was a wall mounted electric heater, full of ASIC's ....I could have been more happy.  Wink

The ASIC's provide the heat and some income for the consumer. How many bulbs do you need to show any Satoshi's?

This will go to my gadget box.  Shocked .... A collectors item.

BitFury's CEO Valery Vavilov hinted that the goal of the project would be to galvanize interest in BTC as a technology, and that making money on the initiative would be a secondary interest: "We believe that the project’s focus should not be on making money from bitcoin mining, but on creating innovative solutions with main purpose to use this product for educational purposes and fun."
IMO any business or money conscious person should evaluate how many bucks (or BTC) could get from a BTC mining bulb lamp compared with how many bucks would be saved with a energy efficient/energy saving light bulbs (thus, bucks could be reinvested in BTC via any exchange). The same reasoning would apply to any ASIC used as space heater since they may not, however, be more cost-effective than central heating systems when they are used beyond one or two small areas in a home or business. Accordingly to the US DoE estimates an electric heater when used to heat a whole home or business,  costs more than double the cost of using gas furnaces to heat the same area. Would BTC price increase so much to allow ASICs to be an efficient way to replace space heaters or to allow BTC-mining light bulbs to become an efficient replacement for common light lamps?
I would like to collect at least some of such BTC-mining light bulbs, however.

New York Releases Final BitLicense

Quote
The New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) released the final version of its long-awaited regulatory framework for digital currency companies today.

The final release of the Bitlicense follows nearly two years of fact-finding and debate. The NYDFS began crafting the rules after it determined the technology should not be regulated under existing state law.

The bill will not become law until its publication in the New York state register, a weekly government-issued guide to proposed rulemakings.

http://8btc.com/thread-19411-1-1.html

An article introducing mangocoinz on the most famous Chinese bitcoin forum.
It seams that both banx.io and usecryptos are working without to many problems. Maybe we should put a an area in the OP(page one) for exchanges. I didnt see banx.io on it.

I never understood the rage for getting this to the exchanges... so instead of trading at 20k it will, maybe, trade at double that? Triple maybe? And then WHAT? you will sell your few coins that you will never be able to buy back cheaper? So you make a minimal amount and are effectively out of the project that, if you hold instead and slowly accumulate cheap coins can change your life? Not very  smart, is it?

This is still in beta and still very very far from even pointing up to its mature potential! If you so much want to get out set a price and believe me it will be reached in either banx.io or usercryptos. We dont need now to create a feeding frenzy that will rise the price 2 or 3 times... we need to keep distributing it, supporting it and growing it to get to 1000 times its current price. And way beyond. P A T I E N C E!!!

This is just one side of the medal. Someone bullish about Mangocoinz (MCZ) could even like to buy cheap as now & hoard it before the coins will go up....to the moon! Having more established exchanges trading MCZ could assist such operations, since not everybody could feel safe having to rely on banx.io or usercryptos.

Mirror has secured $8.8m in Series A financing to reposition itself as a smart contract trading platform built on bitcoin's blockchain.

Led by Ripple Labs investor Route 66 Ventures, the round also included Battery Ventures, Crosslink Capital, RRE Ventures and Tim Draper. As part of the deal, Route 66 venture partner Pascal Bouvier will join Mirror's board of directors.

Reports of Mirror's round first surfaced in a New York Times article that suggested the company had raised $12.5m to fund a pivot toward smart contract technology with the help of renowned cryptography expert Nick Szabo.

BitPay's Multisig Wallet 'Copay' Leaves Beta

Quote
Bitcoin payments processor BitPay has announced that Copay, its multisig bitcoin wallet, is out of beta.

Copay, originally known as Cosign, aims to offer combat bitcoin wallet thefts by offering customisable security for businesses and individuals.

Like other multisig products, a predetermined number of parties must 'sign off' each Copay transaction before it is broadcast to the bitcoin network.

What if in the near future, i lose the details for the wallet and drift away from the bitcoin community on a whole?
a few months later, i come back and there has been another hack in the time i was away, i try to do a trade but no-one trusts me as i cant sign a message from that addy??

What if that response is wholly, and completely, irrelevant to what this thread is about? The question is, why did you post here? If this is of no use to you, why have you bothered?

DougB62, owlcatz, do you really need to ask him why he posted here? Just gave a look at his signature and you'll know the reason. He, like many others YoBit.Net signature campaign enrollees is just spamming posts everywere to maximise campaign earnings before being banned.

Mexico-based airlines TAR Aerolineas has become the first in Latin America to accept bitcoin payments.

The airliner will accept payments in the digital currency following a partnership between Openpay – a Mexico-based payment service provider – and payment processor BitPay.

In a statement, Jose Calzadias, commercial manager at TAR, said that the company, which serves 12 destinations throughout Mexico, would continue to evaluate payment options that give "real added value" to customers.

i have won 0.01 BTC in gambling which was a nice thing after all those losses. also i got my signature campaign payment yesterday and change my camp. which was nice.

Hey mate may I know what's the name of that gambling site ? I want to try.

Sorry for OT.

Judging by Herbert2020 personal msg advert ★777Coin.com★ Fun BTC Casino! probably he used to gamble on 777Coin. However, if you are in the mood to try a BTC casino, You may want to give a try to Da Dice. I really enjoy it and you can also invest your BTC in their bankroll to earn some revenue.

Scusami Grand_Voyageur, probabilmente ho capito male.

1. Tenere per 30 giorni l'avatar dello squallcoin di squall1066;
2. Tenere per 30 giorni la firma che pubblicizza lo squallcoin dello stesso user;
3. Entrambe le opizioni (1 & 2) di cui sopra.

BitFury to Release Light Bulbs that Mine Bitcoin in 2015

Quote
Following the revelation last week that BitFury had developed a prototype light bulb capable of mining bitcoin, the company has announced it plans to take steps to bring the devices to market in 2015.

Though much about the market strategy remains in early stages, the news follows increasing reports that industry companies are attempting to find use cases for bitcoin in line with the broader trend toward connecting everyday devices to the Internet.

BitFury said it intends to invite the community to become a part of its rollout plans, and that it would solicit ideas on how the light bulbs should be marketed to a wider audience as part of a collaborative release.

I have sent .3 BTC to EcauMobi as (late) payment for this loan.

https://blockchain.info/tx/391638aa9085383e23d744c2060f997cf813fc4474558e02d961ed131a53dde2

Thank you, I confirm I received it. I really didn't expect to have this loan back at all.

I have updated the (still negative) feedback I left. Everyone who left a feedback on OP's profile please remove or update it as you see fit. Thanks.

I revised my feedback to reflect the overdue payment and be informative to others. I also turned it to neutral.

User repaid a 0.2btc loan from EcuaMobi (uid: 169515) almost 2 months late, apparently with little communication. I would always request him to give collateral to cover a loan.

Wink

258  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does martingale really works? on: May 31, 2015, 02:33:51 PM
There will be no pure luck and no pure strategy

Indeed there is no. that is a why a "strategy" exist. Basically it will help you in reducing the chance for the you to lose which martingale is one of it but do note that there is no "winning strategy".
The bolded part is for clarification , most people do think that martingale is a winning strategy and complain later on if they are busted. The same thing for any other strategy known there. For more logic reason, casino is created with edge which means that player will mostly lose

+1. As anyone with common sense could argue, There is no such thing as a free lunch and if a winning strategy would really exist in our world we would already have got a plenty of bags of free money for everybody. Actually, the only sensible choice is to be casino (or to be invested in one of such establishments) to earn a share of profit. However, everyone should bear in mind that bigger gains are double linked to big risks and big risks lead to big losses. Again, There is no such thing as a free lunch!

martingale really worked for me but I usually stop when getting to a profit of 50% because if continued surely eventually lost

With Martingale, you are supposed to stop when you get to a profit.
And then start over again, with the lowest possible bet.

+1. Do it for the fun, not for the money, and always bear in mind that There is no such thing as a free lunch!

Former Exec Hits Back at OKCoin Amid Contract Dispute

Quote
Former OKCoin chief technology officer Changpeng Zhao has hit back at allegations that he forged a contract at the center of a dispute between bitcoin entrepreneur Roger Ver and the Chinese bitcoin exchange.

"I signed version 7 of the contract with Roger. It was sent via email with my PGP signature. I do not recall a version 8," he wrote. "With either version of the contract, OKCoin is seriously violating its obligations."

Zhao alleged that OKCoin artificially inflates its volume through the use of bots that engage in self-trading, manipulated the results of its August 2014 proof-of-reserves audit and actively encourages its employees to trade on the exchange.
