241  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 09, 2015, 10:01:30 PM
Seems that 240 USD is holding as some kind of resistance at the moment.
Neither bear nor bull are able to send us in either direction.
I thought we'd get to 250 by the end of the weekend, there's still time left but we seem to be at a crossroads at 240.
Can anybody hazard a guess which way we are set to go in the short term?

Thanks

Except at market extremes its a coin toss to say which way the price will go lfc..

If we keep going sideways, we'll break out of the downtrend in two months.

I'm not a TA guru, but aren't you missing 1 top and 1 bottom there to find your channel?

Is this not a typical place where bears would have dumped?

243  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 08, 2015, 10:30:29 PM
So stable at $245.xx that it confuses me.

245  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 08, 2015, 06:44:25 PM
can we please put any rallies on hold at least 20 days Huh

wouldn't want to see my .6% daily interest borrower get margin called  Tongue

0.15 btc/day to keep an in loss position open has got to be rough

Wow good for you. What exchange did you find that interest rate swap on? And are you let them borrow your USD or BTC?
246  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: May 04, 2015, 01:05:23 AM
community activity low, volume very low, price not so low but also not so high. reversal is not far away, all it needs is a potent buyer to step in.
is everybody busy watching btc? are the big fish all doing holidays?

They will come when its too late: http://www.coindesk.com/be-vigilant-on-compliance-coinbase-warns-bitcoin-startups/

Bitcoin in the US is gone! Why? Push for regulation and taxation is at ATH and Bitcoin blockchain is open to everybody and your doge do tracking and surveillance, do the math, Coinbase already track your transactions and if you do something weird they ban you, you can't buy from them without KYC, it won't end nice. Thanks for all the fish Satoshi but the future of cryptocurrency requires something better, it requires Monero Cool

The future of crypto-currency requires Monero on GNU/Linux not just Monero. If one is using Windows 8.1 RT the only choice will be to use a service such as Coinbase regardless of whether one is using Bitcoin, Monero or some other crypto-currency. The reality is that Microsoft has been gradually moving Windows towards the fully locked down Orwellian Telescreen Windows RT model for at least the last 15 years, much like slowly rising a temperature on a pot of cold water with a frog in it. My expectation is that the frog will be dead certainly within the next decade and very likely within the next 5 years.

Edit: Those that are still in the Microsoft pot would be wise to jump out while they are still able.

I would be all over linux if it was supported by video games. I know that sounds silly but it would be hard for me to give up one of my favorite pass times. I suppose that's why having 2 PC's is useful, one with windows and one with linux for cryptos Tongue

As if businesses/merchants are running such razor thin margins that the <0.0001% of revenue they get from 100% BTC/fiat insta-conversion would bankrupt them if they instead held BTC for even the slightest bit of supply-choked upwards price movement.
I don't understand your statement here.. are you for or against overstock holding BTC? Because I don't see how instant conversion to fiat would have any negative consequences. Also, Overstock probably does have razor-thin margins.

Amazon's current net profit margin is negative -0.22%, overstocks is positive 0.50-0.60%, but that is okay when you're making over 2 billion a quarter and attemping to grow. Overstock also has good returns on assets and equity (8% range) that helps its revenue streams.

Also If I remember Overstock's most recent shareholders reports correctly, they are actually hold quite a decent amount of bitcoin.

Edit: Overstock.com holds $233,000 worth of bitcoin as of March 31, 2015 Link - Current report

Trolololo thanks for the charts. Are you interested in releasing the spread sheet so that we can easily update the spread per your formula?

With banks you don't necessarily trust some random bankers with your money. The banks are still governed by certain rules and regulations. With a regular savings account, "bankers" can't just go and do whatever they like with your money. There are safety nets and insurance funds in place in case that a bank has to fold.

You must have missed the financial crisis of 2008.

It always depends on which financial products you use. In the EU there are perfectly fine insurance funds and policies that guarantee private customers that they won't lose any money. I believe Germany even gave out guarantees backed by the state itself that funds, up to a certain limit, will be safe from any potential collapse of a bank.

Until you realize that there is not enough "funds" in these insurances to cover a multibank failure. Also are you not read up on the most recent G20 meeting about worldwide bail-in's ("hair cuts") in the case of the next bank failures?
251  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 29, 2015, 02:41:59 AM
I drew some lines that exclude both of the 2013 bubbles and that would put us around the $341 mark for support so I'm not sure how we are "back to normal" (but perhaps you can educate me). I don't know much about TA though.

252  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 29, 2015, 02:21:36 AM
Back to normal really isn't behind us. I think it's best practice to assume that the bubbles of 2013 were more or less caused by Gox and, thus, heavily inflated. We have to ignore them and extrapolate the "regular" exponential uptrend from the remaining data. That way we might get a more reasonable idea of what's "normal" or should be assumed to be it.

That is an interesting idea. Have you created a chart that takes the Gox 2013 bubble out of the picture to show a potential trend line without it? I'd be very interested.
253  Economy / Economics / Re: Should I start Investing USD? (Betterment?) on: April 29, 2015, 02:14:41 AM
If the company were to shut down or the website, would I lose all my money invested into it?

Don't use betterment the fees are too high for small accounts. Look into Acorns or just sign up for a Vanguard IRA.

You clearly didn't read my first response so this will be my last.
254  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 28, 2015, 01:45:57 PM
You know what I wonder: with all these guys with all this money at stake, you'd think they would pay some anti-NLC types to defend the reputation of their investment. Why aren't there more everything is rainbows trolls?

No need to push adoption when it will happen on its own. Solid foundations are greater than hiring the appropriate trolls to pump something. That is left for most scamcoins.
255  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 28, 2015, 01:05:30 PM

Because you can't make money if no one buys the coins you're selling?

This is about you being toxic actually. If this community is worthless, why are you apart of it? Why do you have 2000+ posts? -- That's rather active engagement in something that's "worthless".

By your rage I'm actually thinking you took some serious losses and are pissed about it. Next time think twice about shorting so hard so you don't get burned in these small (but quick) run ups.

Edit: I only have 1800 posts, you are more active in this community than I am!! LOL. Good times.

if no one buys the coins I am selling - > I'm out, yes, you got that right.

I can have fun in the process, why not?

So if you are actively participating in something that you deem "worthless" does that make you also worthless? Or does it make you idiotic?

That's my last reply to you though. You can take it from there Tongue
256  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 28, 2015, 12:59:01 PM

If you wanna give me even moar coinz, go ahead. I'm patient and not over-leveraged. The lower it goes, the more buying power I have.

no, stupid fuck.

your buying power will be the same, you will just buy more coins.

My ability to buy coinz will increase

I can see that only your ability to bullshit is increasing while prices are decreasing.

no actual use of it.

Since when are people so toxic when they make nice profits? You should be thanking him and the rest of us bulls for buying your coins when you opened your short, as we are thanking the bears for lower bitcoin prices.

Bears can enjoy their increased amount of fiat while bulls enjoy their increased number of bitcoins. See how the market works in harmony? Cheesy

why should I be thanking idiots for being idiots, even if I am making money on them?

it's not about me being toxic, but this worthless community.

259  Economy / Speculation / Re: Possible Local Bitcoins 800 BTC hack or exist scam on: April 26, 2015, 05:25:22 AM
Back online.

Were you able to actually send bitcoins out of localbitcoins? From what I can see if they are actually sending they aren't using their usual hot wallet. Do you have the address they sent from?
260  Economy / Speculation / Re: Possible Local Bitcoins 800 BTC hack or exist scam on: April 26, 2015, 05:19:45 AM
800 BTC hardly seems enough for an exit scam. Localbitcoins has been going for years, sounds like a legit tech issue, or at worst a hack, but exit scam no way doesn't make sense.

The 802 Bitcoins is just their hot wallet. They may have a cold wallet with addresses that aren't well known.

Let's hope it is in-fact a bug or something. What's concerning is that the support has not yet posted anything about it, not on that thread or on twitter.

Error Sending Out Bitcoins

Our apologies. The developers are working on it – and while we do not have an ETA – please be assured that balances are safe and we'll do our best to get this fixed ASAP.

Sorry for any inconvenience this is causing users

Only problem with that is that the hot wallet was emptied yesterday: https://blockchain.info/tx/aaa64e2f1730fbf400df9cca30efbabf8b1dc437a6b00e516edefe4eb7bcc4f1

287 confirmations already.

Edit: By yesterday I mean on 4/24/15.

Did they go to one (known) address? Are they still there?

The bulk of their hot wallet coins went to a single address on 4/24/15 and they are still there. They still have about 50 bitcoins in their normal hot wallet addresses, not sure how that plays a role.

They usually reuse the same internal addresses all the time, but the address the 800+ BTC went to is new.
