That bloke's made some perfect calls in the past and I think he's been around since the single figure days. So I dunno why he needs to get house money involved. He's barking to do that.

Maybe there is a difference between making a "call" and really doing the trade?
242  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 17, 2020, 08:41:08 PM
By selling his house, he is betting it.

He will be overinvested and weak hands.

If he needs to sell his house to invest in Bitcoin he should probably not be investing at all or is clearly overinvesting, yup.

Just popped in to tell you that I'm slowly getting my sense of smell back, never lost taste, but everything tasted bland and insipid.
Had a big mac today and it tasted good (don't worry, I used the drive through).

Did you get COVID-19?

Maybe you mentioned it, but I missed it, too busy with stuff IRL...

Yes I did, never got tested but I have all the symptoms.
No you didn't miss anything, I haven't said anything about it until now.
Fever, headache, loss of smell, tired as a bear in winter, and cough, witch I from now on will spell koff, bikårs aj kant be bodered to think in English spelling rajt nau.

Going back to bed, take care guys.

Edit: Got it from my brother and/or his wife, he's about five or six days ahead of me, and he said yesterday that he was feeling pretty good, but he's not in a risk group, so fingers crossed. His wife on the other hand, is in bed with a high fever.

Sorry to hear that, good that it seems it hasn't impacted you too much. Wishing you a prompt and full recovery!

How about a poll for what to replace vegeta with.

Please. Anything but an infantile kindergarten cartoon character.

No Mickey Mouse, Vegeta, or Care Bears.

At least the Sparta meme at 300 was adult-oriented.

What's that havling everyone is talking about?

if you have a wallet with x bitcoin in it after today it will only have x/2

this was all hardcoded in by Satoshi at the genesis block to promote decentralization by preventing whales from getting too big

Fuck!

Then I should be selling it all before it gets halfened and then rebuy it all after the havling? Ha! I found a circumvention!

I said healthy people who die, take a long time to die.  It takes them 45 - 60 days to drown in their own lung fluid as they fight every step of the way.

Outbreak on Diamond Princess ship occurred 3 months ago. Yet no significant increase in the last month or so, right?

I know you will say that the passengers were probably old and fat.

And I will say the crew members were probably NOT old and fat.

Was testing of all passengers and crew done on the Diamond Princess?  If we don’t know the denominator, then the Case Fatality Rate is just guesswork.  The only data I can find is 712 cases and 13 deaths giving a CFR of 1.8%

Yup. Diamond Princess is the best isolated example we do have about this virus. Take into account that the "population" tends to be a bit older than average so... you get a less than 1% death rate. Probably 0.5% is a usable figure for the average of the population.

You can keep your liberties.

Much as I would like to thank you for your magnanimous offer, I'm afraid that my fellow 'merkins -- many of them at least -- would rather cower under a benevolent boot than take responsibility for their own well-being. And accordingly are making an irresistible force determined to throw away their liberties - with mine thrown right out in the process.

As for myself, I'm perfectly capable of limiting my exposure to disease vectors on my own volition.

But... Unless you do own a fully staffed hospital for yourself... if the uncontrolled idiots go collapse the health system what would happen if you (or any of your family members) do need it for other critical illness and you can't get the much needed medical care because they are overwhelmed?

As much as total individual freedom is encomiable such thing doesn't really exist as the actions of other people do impact and restrict yours. A balance (and it is of course arguable what the right one is) is required.

I am perfectly fine and even support some rules like requiring EVERYONE to wear masks in public places and avoiding physical contact, etc... not so much with some of the movement restrictions but.....

Wow it is going nuts.

Good news is, my acquisition cost is now near zero. Bad news is I own only a fraction of what I had before.

When the price is nearing 10k I guess good news isn't actually good. Send this to 100k and I can get myself a tesla.  Cool To the moon!

I am not sad for selling actually. I am sad for buying too much and becoming overinvested. Hopefully a mistake that I won't repeat again. We are still the early adopters right? Right?  Grin

Your acquisition cost is near zero because you have a near zero amount of Bitcoin. How can that be any good news?

I really still don't understand why you went all out and then started to DCA instead of just having left the intended (even if just 1BTC) amount in... anyways, if you are happier this way then it's all good. Stress is a huge killer.
259  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 09, 2020, 10:58:19 AM

As I said it's a slippery slope and needs balance. For me, $400 a month is nothing, I need to work one day a month and that's covered. It's when people stack multiple commitments when they come undone. You're right of course that most people can't help themselves and that's why we're in the mess we are.

When all these lockdowns started my wife lost her job so we lost her income. We were fine but a lot of her co-workers couldn't afford to even put food on their tables. They said we were lucky... and in a way we are. But it's more we're responsible; that's the key difference

Well, you are lucky, or more probably skilled, or whatever, to earn $400 for a day of work but, then, let me ask you... why do you need/want to buy a car on credit?

Also, as it is clear you won't have any problems with that standing liability, what interest do you pay for that credit? Because unless it is very near zero I still don't get why you do use credit when you could perfectly buy straight for a "discount".

And yeah, it is those people (your wife co-workers) what I am talking about. If you are rich enough or earn way more than your needs so no one will need to come in your financial rescue, then you can spend your money as you please (even on unnecessary credit). It is people that NEEDS credit who shouldn't be using it for (OVER)SPENDING but just for SAVING, otherwise they are just perpetuating their self-imposed "slavery".
260  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 09, 2020, 10:47:01 AM
This is a food distribution center (bread line) in Las Vegas.

I have to note that every single car there is much nicer and newer than anything I own.

Hm.

A possible interpretation is that people who have otherwise led comfortable middle class lives their entire life are suddenly on the bread line through no fault of their own.

Or maybe they did overspend in the car (and presumably other things too) if they don't have enough savings for at least a few months.

In the USA, outside of the BIG cities, almost everyone owns a car, even poor people.

Typically, a beaten up truck, NOT a LEXUS, and it is in the middle of the sin city, but i get your point...someone could be just one paycheck away from losing that vehicle to a repo-man.

If you need to buy a car with credit that's not the car you should be buying. You can buy perfectly nice and working used cars of any type just for a few thousands in cash. Even some mid-high end ones for a couple tens.

Almost the only thing reasonable to buy on credit is real estate... and that after careful planning and consideration.

And, as I said, someone that does that probably also overspend in many other things.

And I bet an egg that there are also several with $1,000 phones also bought on credit...

Absolutely. And probably even changing to a new one every couple of years. All those people should not be bailed out in any way but left to starve as a warning to next generations. But, as the (credit) system lives from their stupidity they will help them just barely enough to perpetuate their self-imposed slavery as if there wasn't anything wrong with their financial and overspending behaviour.
